You let me down Yelp reviewers. We were just passing through & needed lunch. I've had good BBQ, this was not... my husband and I both got a pork sandwich with sides-beans, & fried okra. The okra was good, that's what the 2 stars are for but being a BBQ place the main course should be the star. Both of our sandwiches had hard dry pieces in it. I'm sorry to say I think Arby's would've been a better option. I don't like giving bad reviews but I think the star reviews are a little off. Needless to say we would not revisit. read more

Ribs were fantastic. The hot BOQ sauce was excellent. Regular rib plate was 3 and the large rib plate was 5. Tender, juicy and BIG! Pulled pork on the sandwich was tender. Potato salad was creamy with plenty of hard boiled egg. Pork beans had a great smoky flavor. Service was friendly. Everything was prepared to order so it does take time to get your food. Has that small hometown feeling. Great spot to stop at on your way to or from the beach. They have a drive thru as well. The BBQ sauce is gluten free () and the portion size is very generous. A plate is large enough for two people almost. I had the bbq plate ( it comes chopped) with potato salad and Coleslaw. All of it was amazing. They have three different BBQ sauces: sweet, mild and hot. My niece got the chicken nuggets from the kid's menu and they were breaded pretty heavy and could have had more meat on there but overall great place and we will definitely make it a regular spot to eat when we go to beach. read more

When we got there (6:30 on a Saturday night) they were out of everything except pulled pork, they only had 3 sides and only grilled cheese for the kids. Against my better judgement we gave it a chance because the reviews looked good...unfortunately that was a mistake. The food was cold and Mediocre at best. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Stopped in during the drive from Hattiesburg to Enterprise. Must be new or nobody reviews it but is a small little building with wood accents, cabin feel. Service was great, employees were very kind. I got the pork plate with double sweet fries and the sweet and hot bbq sauce. The portion was very reasonable and the hot bbq has a real nice kick to it. The pork is more shredded than pulled, which was a nice surprise. I travel to Alabama every month for work and have tried all different bbq places. This was a pleasant surprise and definitely to best I've had in terms of whay they serve. Definitely beats the cafeteria grade "food" Larry's serves. Try it, you wont be disappointed. read more

I always hate to give bad reviews, but I want to honestly review this establishment so that others don't come here based solely on the excellent reviews like we did. Normally the bathroom is a good indicator of the concern and pride of the ownership and employees. The bathroom had the word F*** carved in the wall and the bathroom cleanliness was definitely undesirable. When we went to order our food they were out of ribs. What kind of bbq place does not have ribs? So I settled for pork and chicken. Now I did like their sauce, and the hot was definitely HOT, and the pork was decent, but the chicken was very very dry. I will normally eat dry chicken, but this was so dry I couldn't eat it. I couldn't even swallow it. It seemed like all the meat was precooked and heated up in a microwave. I've eaten a lot of bbq and this was probably the worst I've had from a restaurant. I would have brought my concern to the staff, but I got the vibe they wanted to be there even less than I did. read more

My first ever review. Been to Hooks a lot when I come to Andalusia. Today was my first bad experience, and it was really bad. My Wife and I ordered the cheeses burgers. First off, they were cold. Second thing they were not fresh cooked. They have been cooked for a while and they attempted to warm them up on the grill. It didn't work... they were terrible! 1 star is still too high of a ranking. It's gone a long ways from the original Hooks BBQ. I waited 30 minutes to get a cold pork plate, cold Mac n cheese, and soggy fries. I send it back to get the same thing in return 10 minutes later. "It was hot when I brought it out" was the answer after I only had it a couple of minutes. Stopped here on the way home to north Alabama from the beach. We both had pork plates. One regular sized and one large. The serving sizes were generous and the chopped pork was moist and flavorful. The mild sauce was flavorful but as stated, was mild - not sweet or hot (the other two sauce options). Might consider mixing with the hot in the future. The sides (potato salad, baked beans, slaw, sweet potato fries) were all very good. The slice of white loaf bread was soft and fresh. The building was rustic and typical of many locally owned, unassuming southern barbecue establishments. You know it's the real deal when the aroma of smoking meat is noticeable as soon as you step out of the car. We will definitely stop here again! We appreciate the fact that every other booth was blocked off to aid in social distancing. Mask wearing was not enforced for the staff but there was plenty of room for social distancing.
