Located in the middle of Kam shopping center with ample parking is this gem of a bakery. I've come here a handful of times for birthday cakes or cupcakes for get together with friends. Their cakes and cupcakes are absolutely adorable and the cake itself is great quality. It is on the lighter side instead of the denser side which I appreciate. I don't enjoy dense cakes. They have a decent amount of cake selection designs, I've gotten the bear twice(chocolate cake), the dog (white cake), and the hello kitty (white cake). I preferred the white cakes over the chocolate bear for the main reason that the chocolate bear was just too chocolatey for my taste. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and what I think was cocoa powder blanketed on top was just a bit too much chocolate for me. However, the bear is definitely one of their cutest cakes! For a 6" cake they run about $27, for a 7" cake it runs about $32 and the biggest cake, which I can't remember how but it was, costs a little over $40. More than say napoleon's bakery, but pretty decent in price compared to most small business bakeries. I've also on occasion gotten cupcakes here, they are equally as cute and delicious as their larger counter parts if you're looking for a quick sweet treat! They also do sell some regular pastries along the right wall when you enter, however, the cupcakes and cakes are so cute, that I'm always instantly drawn to going left toward the cases. So I've never really took a good look at the pastries. though I would like to try their regular pastries one day. Along with a variety of baked goods, they have a small menu of coffees and teas. I have not tried these but will update you if I do! They do let you call ahead to order a cake, but you will have to pre pay for it. They will allow you to add a short message on a chocolate oval that they stick on the cake. The pick up process is quick! Let me just get to the point and say their cakes are SO ONOOOOOO! My mom bought a mango cake once and it was literally the best cake I have ever tried in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Their cakes will always taste great but that mango one I can't forget., it's engraved in my memory. If they bring it back, you BETTER try it! Their basic fruit and animal cakes you usually see on display are really good flavors too. If you're in need for a cake but don't know where to get one, I'd say try coming here. The only reason why I gave it a 4/5 star is because of the price. A small cake can come out to 25 I believe but it's really cute so you can easily spend over 30 for one cake. But it's really good and worth it if you're trying to splurge on cake and have a more intimate bday party. My family loves buying from here once in a while because of the fruit one. They also write happy birthday on a chocolate plate thing and stick it on the cake if there isn't space on the front. There's tons of parking, bring located at the Kam shopping center near fun factory. Customer service = 10/10, they're always nice! Also, also, it's not just the cakes that are amazing, we also like the turtle bread but again, they're pricey. They also sell cupcakes which are meh.. super sweet and overly frosted for the design. I had a coworker get promoted and brought an assortment of desserts. I had the strawberry shortcake and was amazed! I had to go back. I tried to try something new, well I did. The brown sugar milk tea which was pretty tasty, but I had to get that strawberry shortcake again. The cake is soooo light, so moist, so delicate. This was my first time coming here, I was asked last minute to pick up a cake for my supervisor's birthday this morning and was going a little nuts looking for a bakery that was open at 7am. I came on yelp and chose this out of the others that were out of my way. They have a large variety of pastries to choose from and totally cute decorated cupcakes and cakes. They also sell a variety of drinks from coffee and teas to hot chocolate and boba drinks. I got a few different pastries to try and a cupcake and cake for the birthday party. One of my favorite bakeries! I usually get the turtle bread plus some other pastries. Love the turtle bread! It's pull apart sweetbread rolls with raisin and nut sprinkled buttercream on the inside. I order whole cakes here too. They come in a nice sturdy box with candles and cutting knife, so convenient! First time was a dog strawberry shortcake. It was very light and airy and cute. It reminds me of Japanese style pastries so don't expect something rich and filling. Second time was blueberry cheesecake, which was a sponge cake with a few layers of blueberry cream cheese between and on the top was blueberry topping and whipped cream. The blueberry cheesecake was so good. Want to try mango next time. I called first thing in the morning on the day before pickup, and they were able to accommodate. It was ~$40 for an 8 inch cake, more expensive but worth it for the quality. It could serve maybe 16 with Little slices or 8 normal size slices. Interior is nice bright and clean. Service friendly. Their later hours makes it easy to stop by after work. My only complaint is that it's in Kamehameha Shopping center, I don't like that parking lot. read more

I was comparing prices around and this seemed reasonable for the quality of cake. Zippy's has similar sizes of cakes for about the same price. Wife wanted a not too sweet cake for her birthday. This ended up perfect. I called the day before pickup almost right before closing time. The person on the phone was polite and noted that usually they need two days in advance depending on the cake's complexity. She had to call me back to verify the bakers would make it, so I was glad they could accommodate my last minute order. They included a cake cutter and two lengths of candles! I think next time I'll try their cat or dog cakes, which are supposed to be cheaper. They look really cute! I recommend the mocha cake if you like nice and light cake, not too sweet. Buttery cream. During this pandemic time, they have less on the shelf, but the service is still the good service that is also found on their King street location. If you've never heard of Honu Bakery, you should really really give it a try. They are a cute bakery located in the Kam Shopping Center. I've seen pictures on Yelp of all the cute cakes that they make. I've seen a Hello Kitty one and a dog cake. They even make some really cute cupcakes. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time but it's just not in a place that's convenient to my work or home. But just recently I had an excuse to go there and I was super excited. It was my mom's birthday and she wanted a different kind of cake. She requested a strawberry cake so I had to do some research and Honu Bakery had strawberry shortcake. I ordered the cake a few days before and picked it up. The presentation of the cake was so beautiful. They put it in a nice box and include a knife and a few candles. I had to get some other stuff too since everything looked so enticing. I got an anpan bread, okinawan sweet potato snack, a pig cupcake, and mini turtle bread. All of it was so good. I especially liked the strawberry shortcake. We've tried strawberry shortcake before but this one was by far the best one. It was light and moist and the frosting wasn't overly sweet. The turtle bread was really good too. It was my first time trying the turtle bread and I made sure that I only ate a little at a time so that it would last me the rest of the week. It's been many years since coming to this shopping center and didn't realize how absolutely KAOTIC the parking situation is and driving to this shopping center was traffic galore. I told myself to just do your business and leave this crazy busy shopping center ASAP!. While walking to my car (from doing business here), I noticed Honu Bakery. Despite wanting to leave here ASAP, I remember seeing the Yelp photos and great reviews, so I had to stop in. immediately upon entering, I received a friendly greeting and impressed with how clean and organized this bakery is. There was a showcase with beautiful decorated cupcakes, cakes, eclairs etc. and to your right, is a shelf filled with different pastries and breads to help yourself in selecting. This is such a painful review to write. After having such a great variety of goodies from original store Boulangerie Bakery on King Street, and knowing Honu Bakery (HB) is related I had super high hopes as I walked into HB tonight. Sadly I am highly disappointed as the goods delivered were not what I had hoped for. First of all I had a great dinner with family and we headed to Kam Shopping Center to run errands as well as get my dessert. I was given complimentary dessert during tonight's dinner (pie from Nanding's) but I passed just because I wanted the chocolate cake bar. Located next to Fun Factory, HB is impressive. A huge bright and well lit bakery with so many offerings and tables for you to sit down. I surveyed the goodies with my sister and ended up getting that highly anticipated chocolate cake bar and a turtle bread to give away as a gift. I offered to buy my sister dessert but she declined as she was full from dinner. I paid for my items and I walked back to my car. I had such high hopes eating that same cake 2 days ago but noticed it didn't taste the same after the first bite. This cake was DRY DRY DRY. I tried to mix the dry cake with the chocolate frosting in the middle but was so disappointed when the frosting layer was so thin. I thought perhaps the frosting was unevenly distributed so I stuck my fork deep inside only to realize the whole bar barely had any chocolate frosting (refer to attached pic). Highly disappointed I went back to HB and brought back my dry chocolate cake bar. I questioned Boulangerie Bakery (BB) and HB to confirm its affiliation and the staff informed me each bakery makes their own goods. I explained having the exact chocolate cake bar at BB where it was divine only to eat this horrible dry cake. As proof I showed my cake picture from 2 days ago (see attached pic) and indeed the clerk acknowledged the very thin layer of chocolate frosting which led to my claim of a dry cake. She called the manager to explain my claim and received approval for an exchange. I really wanted an even exchange - - that yummy chocolate cake bar but being the showcase has the same batch of chocolate cake bars that the frosting layer is most likely thin so the clerk suggested I select something else. I ended up with the green tea cheesecake which was so appealing but OMG - it was horrible. The green tea powder was extremely BITTER where I'm surprised it was dusted on top of a dessert. The cream cheese was somewhat tart and mixed with the sweetened whipped cream it didn't work at all. Perhaps an execution failure? This green tea cheesecake was such a HORRIBLE dessert that I've encountered in a long time. I'm happy when local businesses expand because of their growth hence prosperity. But when a business expands and the quality is compromised I'm a saddened that the sub quality product tarnishes the original store and company name. To be frank I'm still yearning for that chocolate cake bar but afraid of disappointment. I do intend to try HB again but somewhat reserved and hesitant. I also hope my initial visit at BB is not a "one hit wonder" because that would be such a shame. NOTE: That same girl who had her back faced me at BB 2 days ago was at HB tonight. I clearly remembered her but did she recognized me? Probably not. How would I know? How can one recognize your patrons if you're too busy talking to your co-worker and have your back facing them? Very cute bakery located in Kam Shopping Center. Parking is plentiful since it's located in the mall. They offer a variety of cakes, I recently ordered a strawberry shortcake from them for a birthday. I was able to call the day before for their 7" size cake. They asked for me to pay beforehand over the phone, which was no problem. Pick up was easy. The design of the cake was clean and elegant. I liked the simple texture to the frosting and fresh strawberry halves used to decorate it. They placed it in a sturdy box with a see through cover. They also offered free candles, 10 total, and a plastic serving knife. As for the taste of the cake, it was good, although not the best strawberry shortcake I've ever had. The frosting was light and not too sweet, kind of reminded of cool whip. The actual cake was not dense enough for me to stand up to all of the frosting. Very fluffy and fresh cakes! Like eating air. The presentation is top notch, high quality and the price points are fair for what you get, IMO. The whipped cream icing isn't overly sweet and it doesn't make your mouth feel greasy like some whipped creams tend to. The cake is soo fluffy and soft, also not overly sweet. The fruit are also fresh and glazed in a sweet preserving sauce. There's a bunch of flavors and designs and prices, so it's easy to walk in and get something nice at the last minute. Staff are helpful. I had to run to longs and they held my cake and goodies in the fridge until I got back. Free candles come with the cake!! And a giant plastic cake knife. Yay- one stop shop... minus a lei I guess. Parking is always hard at Kam but there's usually a spot to squeeze into.
