It was the wife's birthday weekend and I wanted to get her a cake she'd love. She also loves bears. So when I saw their bear cake, I had to get it. Pre-ordered it a few days ahead to be safe and so they could write her name on it. The design of the cake is so creative. It wasn't my preferred taste as I'm not a big chocolate fan but the wife seemed to enjoy it. What I really like about this place is the variety of treats they offer. Not just the amazing and unique cakes (I got a slice of the sweet potato cake and green tea cheesecake for my parents), but also the beautiful cupcakes. This is my first time to check this place as we live far from Hon and I just saw the sign that there is a bakery in that area. The turtle bread is to die for. It is very creamy and buttery. Came here for the first time to buy my son a strawberry flavored cake. I'm so used to buying the universal Costco or Sams Club cake, but this time, my son wanted something fancy and light. As soon as I entered the store, it felt expensive af lol. Anyways, the staff there are really friendly and helpful. They suggested the strawberry cheesecake or the strawberry shortcake that had 2 different designs. My son chose the strawberry shortcake and it was deliciously light and I think overall, worth the price. It came in a fancy sturdy box with candles and a large plastic knife..who does that?! This shop is located in the Kamehameha Shopping Center next to Fun Factory. They sell a bunch of fancy looking pastries and other cakes that I'm sure is delicious and expensive. I don't actually know if they're expensive because I'm so used to either my wife baking the cakes or we simply buying them from Sams or Costco. We usually love this bakery -and for price you have to pay for these pastries you expect a always high quality - well we asked for a Japanese cheese cake cup cake the one with a strawberry, kiwi, n orange with whip cream on top -they looked so yummy in the display window but what i got in my box when i went home to open it -was not what i expected ! the kiwi was dried out as well as the rest of the things looked like was sitting in that window for days ! Honu bakery has become my go to bakery for dessert for any occasion or if you're just in the mood for a yummy treat. They are very accommodating whether you are a last minute person like me and want to pick up a cake the day of. But when I can, I try to preorder just in case. If you do, have your credit card ready because for preorders you must pay on the phone. Honestly everything is delicious! But if I really had to choose my favorites, I'd say the strawberry shortcake or the cheesecake soufflés. I'm still making my way to try every single thing in the shop though. read more

Their curry chicken pastries and other meals prepared like manapuas are filling and tasty! I try to stop by after work since their shop opens at the time I already have to be at work but it's worth the change in my after work routine! I cannot even describe how much I love their turtle bread!! They are so addictive I can eat the whole thing by myself in one meal. They are super soft....just right amount of sweetness and has beans and raisins ibside the cream. Their turtle bread alone is enough for me to keep going back to Honu all the way in town but do not forget their cupcake too. Located in the middle of Kam shopping center with ample parking is this gem of a bakery. I've come here a handful of times for birthday cakes or cupcakes for get together with friends. Their cakes and cupcakes are absolutely adorable and the cake itself is great quality. It is on the lighter side instead of the denser side which I appreciate. I don't enjoy dense cakes. They have a decent amount of cake selection designs, I've gotten the bear twice(chocolate cake), the dog (white cake), and the hello kitty (white cake). I preferred the white cakes over the chocolate bear for the main reason that the chocolate bear was just too chocolatey for my taste. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and what I think was cocoa powder blanketed on top was just a bit too much chocolate for me. However, the bear is definitely one of their cutest cakes! For a 6" cake they run about $27, for a 7" cake it runs about $32 and the biggest cake, which I can't remember how but it was, costs a little over $40. More than say napoleon's bakery, but pretty decent in price compared to most small business bakeries. I've also on occasion gotten cupcakes here, they are equally as cute and delicious as their larger counter parts if you're looking for a quick sweet treat! They also do sell some regular pastries along the right wall when you enter, however, the cupcakes and cakes are so cute, that I'm always instantly drawn to going left toward the cases. So I've never really took a good look at the pastries. though I would like to try their regular pastries one day. Along with a variety of baked goods, they have a small menu of coffees and teas. I have not tried these but will update you if I do! They do let you call ahead to order a cake, but you will have to pre pay for it. They will allow you to add a short message on a chocolate oval that they stick on the cake. The pick up process is quick! Their cakes will always taste great but that mango one I can't forget., it's engraved in my memory. If they bring it back, you BETTER try it! Their basic fruit and animal cakes you usually see on display are really good flavors too. If you're in need for a cake but don't know where to get one, I'd say try coming here. The only reason why I gave it a 4/5 star is because of the price. A small cake can come out to 25 I believe but it's really cute so you can easily spend over 30 for one cake. But it's really good and worth it if you're trying to splurge on cake and have a more intimate bday party. My family loves buying from here once in a while because of the fruit one. They also write happy birthday on a chocolate plate thing and stick it on the cake if there isn't space on the front. There's tons of parking, bring located at the Kam shopping center near fun factory. Customer service = 10/10, they're always nice! Also, also, it's not just the cakes that are amazing, we also like the turtle bread but again, they're pricey. They also sell cupcakes which are meh.. super sweet and overly frosted for the design. I came on yelp and chose this out of the others that were out of my way. They have a large variety of pastries to choose from and totally cute decorated cupcakes and cakes. One of my favorite bakeries! I usually get the turtle bread plus some other pastries. Love the turtle bread! It's pull apart sweetbread rolls with raisin and nut sprinkled buttercream on the inside. I order whole cakes here too. They come in a nice sturdy box with candles and cutting knife, so convenient! First time was a dog strawberry shortcake. It was very light and airy and cute. It reminds me of Japanese style pastries so don't expect something rich and filling. Second time was blueberry cheesecake, which was a sponge cake with a few layers of blueberry cream cheese between and on the top was blueberry topping and whipped cream. The blueberry cheesecake was so good. Want to try mango next time. I called first thing in the morning on the day before pickup, and they were able to accommodate. It was ~$40 for an 8 inch cake, more expensive but worth it for the quality. It could serve maybe 16 with Little slices or 8 normal size slices. Interior is nice bright and clean. Service friendly. Their later hours makes it easy to stop by after work. My only complaint is that it's in Kamehameha Shopping center, I don't like that parking lot. read more

This Korean bakery is super clean and makes cute goods! I purchased a beautifully made and fresh 7" mocha cake that wasn't too sweet for $33. I was comparing prices around and this seemed reasonable for the quality of cake. Zippy's has similar sizes of cakes for about the same price. Wife wanted a not too sweet cake for her birthday. This ended up perfect. I called the day before pickup almost right before closing time. The person on the phone was polite and noted that usually they need two days in advance depending on the cake's complexity. She had to call me back to verify the bakers would make it, so I was glad they could accommodate my last minute order. They included a cake cutter and two lengths of candles! I think next time I'll try their cat or dog cakes, which are supposed to be cheaper. They look really cute! I recommend the mocha cake if you like nice and light cake, not too sweet. Buttery cream. During this pandemic time, they have less on the shelf, but the service is still the good service that is also found on their King street location.
