Was looking for dessert in the area in the afternoon. Found this bakery. It was not crowded. It's not really a place where you dine in but there was a spot at the counter where few stools were present and one could eat. Got the blueberry cheesecake. Since it's a Japanese style cheesecake, its base was chiffon. It was light, not that sweet, unlike most cheesecakes we are used to. Not a fan of these nondense cheesecakes. This is only the second time that I've been to this bakery. I don't come to Kam Shopping Center that often, but I like to check out Game Stop and Fun Factory from time to time. Honu is located right in the middle of the two. They have some really cute cupcakes and birthday cakes shaped like animals. They also have your regular pastries. They also sell boba drinks and coffee. We didn't get too many items today. We did get the marble pound cake. It was good. It was tasty and soft. I would buy it again. Stumbled upon this place after eating at Helena's. It's about a 10-minute walk away next to the Walgreens plaza. I'm not sure if the owner of this place is Korean but it reminded me of a Korean bakery. That's a plus in my book. We went at 7am to get the Ube turtle bread but unfortunately it wasn't ready and was told that all they had at the time was on the shelves and from the day before. We figured if they still selling it should be still good. We purchased a turtle bread and2 ube cream puffs. Got home the bread was stale and Ube was ok. I'm guessing the Ube was from the day before too. I called and was told that day old usually is sold with a 30% discount however we were charged regular price, I didn't even asked about being charged full price but she was nice enough to let me know of the discount. I would gladly pay full price but also would expect quality product. The person I spoke to was nice but basically said to come around 9 am that's when they put out the fresh products she thank me and that was it. Now we know not to go too early. read more

Was waiting to pick up something from another place in the Kam Shopping Center so I wandered around and happened upon Honu Bakery a few shops away. Went in just to check things out and found a bakery with an extensive and beautiful array of decorated cakes and cupcakes, along with extensive array of Japanese style pastries from sweet to savory. Diane need anything special so I only bought some cream puffs and a spam musubi styled roll. Spam musubi roll also had egg inside so it makes a nice little breakfast I'd lunch. Cream puff had real custard in it and was delicious. You can also purchase coffees or teas so you can get breakfast or lunch from here. Will return to try more of the pastries and take a good look at the cake and cupcake designs so I can be prepared to order something in the future. read more

Still 5 stars guys! I absolutely adore this bakery. Not only are their pastries pleasing to the eyes but the tast buds as well! If you like desserts that are light, not dense, and not too sweet this is the place for you! They sell a variety of desserts including full size cakes. I have enjoyed basically everything I've tried here with the exception of our last visit. We got the oreo roll and it was very dry :(. Other than that no complaints! The creme puffs are huge and the custard filling is amazing! The cheesecakes aren't really cheesecakes though. They're more cake than cheese lol, still good though. Our absolute favorite thing to get here is the chocolate cake bars. They are so decadent, a definite must try if you like chocolate! We found this bakery by chance when we stopped in the the little strip mall looking for lunch. (We didn't get lunch but got cakes and boba instead!) The cakes in display cases were what drew our attention-- they all looked so so good. After making our lap looking for lunch options, the crowd in the bakery has gone, perfect timing for us! We left with a slice of tiramisu and a bunny cupcake, one milk tea with boba, one brown sugar boba, and a mango slush. Honest opinion: I'd skip the boba/tapioca pearls-- they had no flavor or bite. The tea, though, while not adjustable for sweetness, was surprisingly good! I could taste the tea and the evaporated milk (I think!). The mango slush wasn't too sweet either but I think they add milk? I think the tiramisu was made with sponge cake instead of lady finger wafers. It's missing the coffee flavor as well. I didn't get a chance to taste the bunny cupcake coz the kid devoured it by himself. I think their whole cakes might be worth splurging on! They look so pretty and tasty. This time around, I decided to skip the cute animal-themed cupcakes in favor of a classic chocolate cake. I tend to like Asian style cakes a lot better as they're fluffier and aren't all too sweet, which Honu Bakery fulfilled. I liked that they added hard-shell chocolate surrounding the sides and top of the cake with a thin layer of whipped cream separating the hard shell and cake. I also appreciated that they did multiple, alternating thin layers of cake and cream giving the cake a more even mouthfeel. The only fault I found was that the cake was a little grainy. My friend picked up a last minute birthday cake here for a birthday dinner and we were all honestly so surprised at how good the cake was!! First of all, the cake was around $35 and it was SO cute! It definitely made for a memorable birthday for our friend! It fed 7 people and they still had leftovers to take home. The cake was really soft and moist (wasn't dry at all considering she picked it up same day and didn't reserve ahead of time. It had the perfect balance of cake to frosting ratio with the frosting not being too sweet either. I really enjoyed the flavor of the cake (basic vanilla) and loved just how convenient and cute the cake was. If you need a cake in a pinch, I'd say this is the place to go! It's Thanksgiving and picked up their new Kabocha Pie. They are shrinking everything! The cream Puffs and banana pudding shrunk. The price you pay for it is not worth it. I paid $30 something for the Kabocha Pie and it's not worth it. The pie has plenty of room to move around in the box. Just to let you know that it is not worth it. I will never buy their cream Puffs, Banana Pudding or their Kabocha Pie anymore. Have you ever wonder how much dough or incredience they waste? There goes some of their cost? The messages are placed in chocolate oval disks. The bakery is very clean and rarely crowded so it is easy to social distance. All the hand held pastries are pre-packaged in cellophane bags. I deducted 1 star because I didn't appreciate that when I called 1 week in advance to pre-order a cake, I was told I needed to place my order 1-2 days in advance of pick up so they don't lose my order. The last time I popped in to pick up a cake, the girl who helped me said best to call a week in advance to guarantee my order and not hold up serving customers in the store. read more
