The inside is very tight niche, rowdy with everyone talking, but also comforting and nostalgic. My dad got the bun rieu without the snails, my brother got the dry noodles with grilled pork and egg rolls, and finally my mom and I got the same thing (bun rieu with oc). Once we ordered, the waitress gave us a pleasant surprise that for Mother's Day our mom gets to pick one additional food item for free and she can take it home. I thought that was the sweetest and best customer service I've ever experienced! Bun Rieu (with and w/out snail) - 4.5/5 I like that the base is clear and fresh. It's not super salty, but makes sense because they give you shrimp paste on the side and you can adjust the sodium level accordingly. There was a bit too much of the noodles to protein ration though Bun Thit Nuong - 4.5/5 it was flavorful and eggroll was perfectly crunchy. Took my parents here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It's a pretty busy place considering the reviews don't show it. My mom has been here several times and really loves their cooking and she's picky considering she knows how to make most of this food. This restaurant is known for their duck soup. The duck meat looks nicely cooked and tender. The flavor was amazing. Bun thit nhon was really good as well especially the egg roll. The rapper was so different from anything I've tried extra crispy! We first decided to try this spot by chance because another restaurant nearby we wanted to try was closed. Ordered the meatball vermicelli soup for my son and the broth was so flavorful and yummy. We came back recently and tried their crab and shrimp egg rolls, fried sweet potatoes with shrimp, and veggie banh xeo. I came here for dinner on a weekday and was surprised, it wasn't as crowded as their old location in Catinat. The new restaurant is small, but there were plenty of empty tables. The food came out very quickly. I ordered Bún Vịt Xào Măng (duck with rice noodle soup, served with cabbage salad), one of their signature dishes. The duck was tender, and the ginger sauce made it even better. I requested duck legs only, but they still included some bones and wings. I've been a local fan of Hong Mai since their original location. They just moved here a couple of years ago but the quality has still remained the same. I absolutely love their duck noodles! The quality of the cabbage salad is so fresh and the duck portion is generous with a lot of meat. The soup itself is very flavorful and the portion is a rather good size. Another item that I would always recommend and get myself here are the egg-rolls. They are so good and honestly I can eat the entire portion myself. Those two are the two I would highly recommend. The location is just a bit tighter than the other but it's not bad. The service was good. They were nice to bring us extra bowls and scissors for the kids without us asking. I had a bit of a frustrating experience today with a duck noodle soup order. My friend's portion was full of meat, while mine had noticeably more bones. There was some meat, but it just wasn't balanced. I calmly mentioned it, hoping they'd understand and maybe offer to fix it. Instead, they just told me to 'look again' as if I couldn't see for myself. And then they got a bit passive-aggressive and said next time I should ask for more meat upfront--like, how was I supposed to know that's even an option? We went to this place because some old guy from YouTube reviews. I think he gets paid to reviews. He said their bun mam was good and I asked an old lady in front of the store to make sure. She said yes it's good. I guess she has very very low taste. Normally old lady are very particular. The restaurant was busy and we waited for 15 minutes. So the odd of them being bad is very low. I am a big fan of Oc Va Lau bun mam. But peek hour is crazy there, so we decided to try this place. We try the bun mam next door at the Bun Bo Hue hot bowl and it was good; but Oc Va Lau is hand down #1. I must be clueless since they specialize in banh cuon here. Well their house special banh cuon is ok, I don't get the pork roll banh cuon they put in the order. It's dark and look weird since no one made it this way. Our 2nd order was bun mam; I guess no one order this. It came after we finished our banh cuon. It's the worst I have in my whole entire life and that a long time. The egg plant is still uncooked, the soup is so so so sweet, and they use old rice noodles from a day before or something. The rice noodles are not soft and do not bend.
