This is always my first choice in eating breakfast out. It's usually very busy, and oftentimes we've had to wait a bit. But the other day we got seated immediately, even though every other table was full. All of their food is so fresh. The pancakes are thick and fluffy and don't taste like a box mix. You get them with whipped butter (although it's usually sort of cold and hard - but I don't mind - it melts just the same). And the syrup is delicious. The cheese grits are delicious. The spinach and feta omelet is SO good. I don't like feta cheese, but I'll eat it in this omelet! Oh, and FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE. Yes, that is a staple that EVERY establishment that calls itself a pancake house should have. There's nothing worse than going out to breakfast and spending over $3.00 on a glass of Tropicana... Butterfield's is always fresh squeezed, sweet and delicious. It makes the meal. This time around I got the blueberry pancakes ($9 is a little steep for pancakes, but they were very good, so I guess I'm okay with it). They had blueberries baked inside, and a compote on top. You get 4 pancakes - which is way too much for me! Maybe Butterfield's should give you 2-3 pancakes and cut the cost in half? Just a suggestion. My side of bacon was $4.00 - which is a little steep considering I can get almost a whole pound for that amount, but they were cooked exactly how I asked and mouth-wateringly scrumptious. The owner is always walking around and is a super nice guy. He seems very hands on and involved. Our waitress was super sweet, and I wish I remembered her name! Had some last minute Father's Day plans, and decided to grab food from Butterfield's to celebrate. Still weary about being in relatively crowded areas, so we chose to order takeaway. I was somewhat expecting it to be at least a little chaotic since it is Father's Day, but everything went so smoothly! Ordering online was a breeze, food came out on time as promised, and everybody I spoke to when I went to pick up my food was extremely friendly and helpful. Food-wise, they have a very large variety of options on the menu still, which was great. Date+goat cheese+bacon omelette is my go-to every time. Onion rings and toast were a bit cold, but popping them in the conventional oven helped fix that. The food is on the heavier side, had maybe half of my food left. But that just means I don't have to make breakfast tomorrow! They also have some lighter options if that's something you're looking for. For a breakfast, they do a decent job. The restaurant is large inside and when I dined there at 10 AM it was packed on a Wednesday morning. There are a lot of choices on the menu for both breakfast and lunch. Butterfields does not do dinner. Our server, an older woman, was friendly and attentive. I had an spinach and feta egg white omelette and opted to not have any potatoes. I did get their biscuit instead of toast and a side of bacon. The egg white omelette was large in size with plenty of spinach and cheese. The bacon came out crisp as I had asked and was very good. The food was great, but the waiter was horrible. We were a party of 7 and everyone had an issue with their order. It wasn't just the patty size, he screwed up the order for a part of two next to us. He has to be told multiple times about forgotten items and was not expedient in getting them either. Pancake orders were brought without butter and syrup. By the time he got them the pancakes were cooked enough to not melt the butter. He was clearly in a job he didn't care for and was certainly not good at. I'll certainly avoid him the next time I go, if he lasts that long. read more

The food was cold. The server didn't even acknowledge us when we got sat. They messed up my sisters eggs . We didn't get syrup for our pancakes. Additionally they served my sister iced coffee with curdled almond milk and the biscuits were hard and dry. They told us our wait was 20-25 minutes then when we went inside to ask how much longer they told us it should be more then 15 minutes. After we had already wait 20 minutes. Phone ordering is bad, I called in two separate occasions and was placed on hold for over 5 mins, and the attendant forgot what I was ordering, twice makes it now a bad habit. First time ever coming here to the Naperville location and it was a good experience. The amount of food you get for how much you pay is great! The interior of the restaurant is clean and presentable. I ordered the Nashville tenders which were surprisingly good for a limited time only item. If I had to recommend a specific item it would be the Nashville tenders for lunch and the French toast for breakfast. Either way you go both are an excellent choice and this is a nice low key location where you don't have to wait as long as other breakfast places! Wouldn't say this is a top tier place but definitely a cheap and solid choice for brunch. read more

Their choices are not unique and they don't bother with a cutesy, gimmicky theme, but their food is genuinely top quality and quite delicious. I'll take a pint of coffee... and keep 'em comin'! They've got damn good coffee service- that's for sure. My mug was full the entire meal. They must have been refilling it somewhere in between my sipping and blinking because I KNOW I drank a sh*t ton of coffee today, but I only remember seeing our server top it off like twice. They be nimble and they be quick here... and now I'm prepared to not sleep till March. B-field's is a super spacious breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot located about 7 minutes from downtown Naperville. I can appreciate this because downtown Naperville is gat damn cluster cuss during the morning (and afternoon and evening) hours so it's nice to get away from the parking and pedestrian madness of Washington Avenue and its tributaries. Also going for Butterfield's is it's adorbies factor. Cute animal statues and fun ceiling art made to look like giant waffles with butter melting. Very inviting, very clean and spacious yet cozy. They do fill up on the weekends, though. And there will be a wait, so just be prepared for that but they move the line quickly so it isn't a huge deal. The menu is pretty expansive- to the point where I think it's always taken me longer to decide what I want than it does for me to eat it. I like that they offer a variety of health conscious b-fast as well as the standard (and super tasty) artery cloggers. I've been here when I was dying for some fatty food but went with their berry-granola-yogurt thinking I'd be sacrificing flavor in order to be more fit but that wasn't the case at all. Turns out their berry-granola-yogurt combo is made of angel's wings with just a pinch of kitten dreams and not a sacrifice in the least. I've also gotten their artichoke frittata and avocado bacon wrap (sans bacon) which sounded like pure heaven, but in actuality not nearly as good as I remembered the granola dish to be. Also, their guacamole (comes with the avocado bacon wrap) was surprisingly good. For my next visit I'm going to get the spinach and Gruyere crepes. For my next visit after that I'm going to get the portobello benedict. And for my visit after that one I'm going to get the taffy apple french toast. Meh. It's okay. I have been here half a dozen times. It's much like Egg Harbor but with a more extensive menu. It's honestly nothing special. At least nothing beyond nostalgia. It certainly has that going for it. The pancakes are not from scratch. Nothing I've had has really stood out. Well, nothing besides the fresh orange juice. --that stuff I could drink all day! Stay far away from the New Mexico Skillet. --it is one greasy mess of a skillet. The cornbread they feel they are famous for is over mixed, causing it to be too dense. --Mix only until incorporated! The other skillets are okay. Nothing has been bad (um, except for the New Mexico); it's just nothing I get excited about either. I go because my kids beg for it on Saturday mornings and I don't have the heart to say "no". Sleeping in on Saturdays during the winter and then schlepping out to breakfast is a family tradition. With the proximity and the fact that I can avoid downtown parking, I'll still continue to go. They win by default. But someone needs to direct me to a great breakfast place. Today was a panini kind of mood day. Plus one thing is for certain I have always liked the coffee refill service at Butterfield's. They are always on top of their game never an empty cup. I noticed on their chalkboard their homemade cream of spinach soup was one of the options. When I dine alone I am usually placed in their 2 seater booth, which I don't mind its cozy and all the condiments are right in front of you. I went forward and ordered a cup of soup and their Ham & Swiss Panini. The fries were crispy and of course I loaded them up with Cholula sauce. Sliced pickles on the side was different and enjoyable compared to most places that give you a spear. The coleslaw is why I removed 1-star. I am more of a creamy coleslaw fan myself however there was no flavor and a thick texture to it. No worries, this did not spoil my mood. Their cream of spinach soup was FANTASTIC!!! I've been here a couple times for lunch now and both times the restaurant was pretty busy. Oddly enough, I ordered the same thing both times - the California Chicken Wrap. The first time I got chips as a side and I guess this last visit in I was feeling a little crazy because I switched things up with a little chicken noodle soup action as my side. Both the wrap and soup were good. Nothing spectacular, but okay. The wrap is listed as a "local favorite" and is made up of a soft whole-wheat tortilla filled with grilled chicken breast, chopped romaine lettuce, tomato, avocado, and Monterey Jack cheese. Ranch dressing was served on the side. The ingredients were fresh and the wrap was satisfying, just nothing special. It was super messy to eat and it kept falling a part. Maybe it wasn't wrapped properly? Or maybe overstuffed? Who knows. I also wish that the ranch was just included in the wrap mixture, because dipping it on the side was quite difficult. The chicken noodle soup follows suit in that it was good, but nothing special. Could have been your regular old canned soup for all I know. We were set up with a pitcher of lemon water at the table, which is always ideal. I asked if they had iced green tea, but that was a no-go. Our waitress was very nice and efficient. This was a nice brunch stop for us, and I'm not sure why we haven't come by more often. We had piping hot large blueberry pancakes right off the grill, corned beef hash, and a Dutch baby german pancake. All nicely done, though the hash was a little strong for us on the onions and green peppers. The german pancake was a little different in that you throw your own powdered sugar on it, and it wasn't quite as fresh and fluffy as at say Walker Brothers. Just comparing, but overall, it was good. Service was quick and attentive, and restaurant is roomy, clean, and conveniently located. I also like the filled carafe of lemon water at each table. Get breakfast somewhere else. I called in a pickup order and an older man answered the phone. Seemed pretty rude and short with me but I figured they might be really busy. I ordered a skillet with a side of French toast and an omelet. I get there and the place is pretty empty. I looked at the menu and noticied I get some sides with my order which were never explained to me over the phone. They brought my food up to the counter to ring me up and still didn't mention anything. They were not going not give me any sides. When I finally mentioned it and said I wanted the fruit & other items with my breakfast he made it seem like he was doing me a favor and giving it to me for free but it should have been included in the first place. This would be a four or at least a three star but their current hash browns are terrible and a skillet is my thing. A two star is "Meh, I've experienced better" If you screw up a skillet you're through. I had asked for a bacon and mushroom skillet instead of their bacon/onion option. When she served it up in record time, it looked full of onions, those are taters? I've never seen half inch wide noodle shaped hash browns before. Some of them were 3 or 4" long. I picked a couple out to test and they had the consistency of an uncooked potato, also not very warm. I did something I haven't done in a long time and sent it back. I should of tried a different item but asked to be sure to try and crisp up the taters. I brought half home as usual and will have to reheat upside down to crisp up the potatoes. (see pics) The second skillet was a little better but not too enjoyable. It had been some time since I was here for breakfast, as I used to frequent often when I lived in the area. I still use the same mechanic for 14 years so I may stop in here or Schmaltz when I drop off my vehicle for service. I was in the mood for a skillet today and Schmaltz Jewish Deli is very limited on breakfast items. They probably would of served my needs better and it may be a while before I return here. The super nice waitress did inform me they've been getting a lot of complaints, so they are switching back to old style hash browns. The service was spot on, although I never really got a greeting from a host, (a waiter finally approached me) as I stood there a few minutes before someone asked if I wanted to be seated. A customer actually walked up and asked if I was meeting him here? Apparently people just walk in and stand there waiting for others to join them, so if you come in by yourself you best say something. You would think at 8:30 am there would be a host greeting guests. If memory serves I think that was what turned me off this place. Cashier didn't even ask how my meal was and other than the kind waitress, the owner/manager present didn't even make eye contact and certainly no apology. read more

She's definitely a regular here since it's been her brunch spot literally every Sunday for the last few years. Now I know why she keeps coming back. I ordered the 3 eggs your way, scrambled with cheddar cheese and an english muffin. So the waitress brings the food out and there are 2 strips of bacon on top. I asked her why was the bacon on the meal. I also asked her if she gave me the wrong food. She said no but she's not sure why they put bacon on it. So she took the food back and then she returned a couple minutes later and brought what appeared to be a new meal. I asked her if the food was newly prepared. But, as I started to take a few bites I realized that this is was the same food that I sent back minus the bacon! The waitress looked eye to eye and LIED. Her nonchalantness was externally irritating! Ultimately I sent the second order back and the meal was removed from my the bill. I Definitely WILL NOT patronize THIS LOCATION again. I'm definitely not the person you ask when looking for a good breakfast joint. I like breakfast, but mostly just the fried potato and carbs. I just can't get into the rest. It also probably hurts my credibility when I tell you I'm a vegetarian. Needless to say, a friend insisted on treating us to lunch and so we obliged. We had four kids and two adults. The kids pretty much all ordered the Mickey Mouse pancake which was pretty cute and they all seems happy. I ordered a side of the sweet potato hash and something carbohydrate (told you I'm chill about breakfast). Everyone liked the food. No one complained. We left happy and full. Would we go back? Sure. If we happen to be in the company of breakfast-lover friends. My better half and I each tried something new, both the Huevos Divorsatos (sp?) and the Cheese Grits Jambalaya were a hit and the Raspberry Tea on tap was a pleasant discovery.
