I was in the area today, so I decided to stop by for lunch. I really wish the Sacramento location hadn't closed because I always enjoyed eating here! I really like their rice plates, and the portions are big enough to share between two people. They offer a deal, if you order a rice plate, you can order certain drinks for $4.50. The chicken wings may not look like much, but they were crispy, not dry, and weren't overly salty. I was pretty full after eating, otherwise I definitely would've ordered dessert. I really like their tofu pudding desserts. They're not overly sweet and come with a good variety of toppings, including boba. There seemed to be only one person working the counter during my visit. She was taking orders, making drinks, and bringing out the food. Our drinks took a while, but the wait for the food wasn't too bad. This location is pretty small with only a few tables inside, so if it gets really busy, you may have to wait for a table to open up.
Was craving some type of popcorn chicken and rice so we stopped by here to try out their rice dishes. The restaurant is pretty small but has tables to sit and enjoy your meal. It does get really busy. I ordered the B1 which is chicken cutlet with braised pork over rice. The chicken cutlet was so crispy and crunchy on the outside and the inside was so moist it was soooo good! The rice being covered with the braised pork gave it so much flavor! The marinaded egg was great too! Hit the spot! Loved everything I ate! I also got a coconut pudding jar. The coconut pudding was good! Texture and taste was great! You can keep the jar also. So cute! For my drink I got the salted plum. That was delicious! Definately a good salted plum drink. I will definately be back to try their other dishes!
So many tea joints in this town, I didn't give this place a second look. It's been here for 7ish some odd years and never even considered that it served more than just bubble teas. Place is adorned with symbols, cartoons and slightly odd translations, many of them repeats but amusing to read while dining. We got a couple dumpling dishes and sat down. Service is odd but it works. There are touchscreens and there's also a regular cashier. "eat with love, happy wife happy life" Hope that doesn't offend you. Probably something lost in translation so relax with the sensitivity. Ambiance vibes were minimal because I think it's summer break. If it got much busier (which I'm fairly certain it will) there would be less space to move around, obviously, but I think folks would still pile in. Dumplings were tasty and one came with a dipping sauce. They appeared to have the array of umami sauces (salty-soy, sweet-chili, spicy-cock, bitter-vinegar) along with a shaker of paprika? Don't cry about the dishware. Paper bowls for everyone! I'm sure they had forks somewhere but we never saw them. "Tea won't be drunk, but the person will" HUH? Never tried those "Freshly Made Egg Waffle" things so figured, why not. Got some chocolate guys that look like oversized bubble wrap. Thought it'd be better. Thought maybe there'd be something INSIDE the bubble. Nope. Was just kinda meh. "Sorry we won't able to have discount, but you might able to get the whole store if you hit on the boss" gives off harassment vibes. Hopefully it's just lost in translation. Odd advice kept me reading for the final Yelp-ish words of wisdom: "One meal means eat for the whole day without stopping." But take pictures and write about it.
This is the only stop we always make when we come to Davis. It's Taiwanese comfort food. The braised dishes are always a hit. I ordered braised pork belly over rice and the flavor and tenderness of the pork belly was great. The best part is the sauce from the braising is soooo great on the rice. It's one of those comfort dishes that you can eat and feel at home. We ordered some wings and it was not bad. No breading if any sort. Just straight deep fried as is then tossed lightly in white pepper and salt. Good flavor and served fresh but the wings were pretty tiny. Otherwise good flavor and I'd visit again when I'm in Davis.
Our families favorite place to dine in Davis! The interior is cozy and charming and food... is AMAZING! 1. Honey D House noodle soup: a must each time we come. We usually ask to skip the spam, but everything else in the soup, at least one person in it family will eat. Quail egg, fried tofu, chicken thigh, green leeks, peanuts, sliced beef, thin tofu sheets (and I'm probably missing a few ingredients!) 2. Chicken Cutlet with meat sauce over rice: if we are getting at least two items, this is for sure one of them. Excellent flavor on the peppery batter on the juicy chicken and the meat sauce and pickled veggies are an excellent combination. 3. Zha Jiang Mien: First time trying it. Two of us liked it. May get, again, next time. We usually prefer the blacker Korean style sauce, but this was pretty good, too. 4. Beef roll: think thinly sliced beef with fresh veggies rolled up in an onion pancake. Everyone in the family likes this dish, but we don't always get it (us wanting to try new things). Sad to see you guys leave your Sacramento... come back, PLEASE!
This small cafe is tucked on a busy Davis street along with other stores. There are few tables inside and one table for outside dining. We waited about 15 minutes until we were seated. The portion is quite generous for its price. We ordered TR1 Juicy Chicken cutlet with braised pork over rice and TR4 Popcorn chicken with braised pork over rice. Both dishes were delicious. The chicken had crispy coating and the meat was juicy. The braised pork was delicious and tasted authentic. The cabbage gave a nice crunch to the dish.
Got the braised pork rice and tiramisu and the food is seriously good. Tiramisu came right away and I did too bc it's so high quality, real thick mascarpone and the bottom was well soaked with coffee, overall flavor was really good. $9 is a crazy price but it was very good tiramisu. Workers are very gracious and kind and I love hearing their Taiwanese mandarin. My pork rice came after 10 minutes and the portion was good for the price. Lots of rice and pork fat which was good! Taiwanese cabbage was too tough and bland for me, and I didn't like the sour veggies on the side. The egg yolk in the braised egg was just slightly uncooked which was great. The flavors were overall well-balanced and tasty. Ambiance is very chill, a little dark but clean and welcoming. Cute posters inside and just a nice environment. Highly recommend to try at least once, especially for the tiramisu!
The food here honestly tastes like a warm comforting hug. The main dishes we had were the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and the Juicy Chicken Cutlet with Braised Pork Over Rice. The portions are good for sharing for a date (but honestly you would probably want your own plate to yourself to take home afterwards LOL). The chicken was super crispy yet maintained the juiciness and flavor on the inside. Definitely a great spot to visit whenever you're in the Davis area and looking for good Taiwanese food!
The purple rice yogurt was so small for $9!!! The price and quality is just not matching. Yogurt was so sweet and purple rice was like risotto's texture
I miss the location that used to be on Freeport that closed a few years ago. This location doesn't have as many dessert offerings from what I remember but the food is just as good! Definitely would stop by again, the herbal jelly was so refreshing and not too sweet. I had the chicken cutlet over rice and it was flavorful and perfectly balanced. I tried a bit of the soup and also liked it. Will definitely stop by again the next time I'm in Davis.
Very small and cute restaurant at downtown UCDavis. You need to order first before you pick a table. It is pretty traditional Taiwanese food, but the Mango drink which we got is so so. But the rice is great, very juicy and crispy outside. They have lots of variety of desserts too. If we will be in town again, I will definitely give them a try again. Highly recommended if you are looking for Taiwanese foods.
Cute clean little spot in Davis although the interior is a bit dated that really doesn't matter much to me! Their service was quick and to the point and I wonder if that is why it only has about 3.7 stars on Yelp? Cause heres the thing their food and their desserts are actually pretty bomb and well priced, I got their juicy chicken cutlets w/ braised pork over rice and although I've had better, I've only exclusively had better in the bay area which is far and often times getting the same dish in the bay costs noticably more. Oh and something interesting they do is their tea eggs are actually somewhat jammy and not chalky like in many Chinese or Taiwanese spots. Their tiramisu was a surprise, honestly it would've been perfect if it was had maybe a quarter shot more of coffee, it is not too sweet and has a strong flavor, there were just some drier bits is all. I got their roasted sencha tea latte too, nice and bitter and at 50% sweet this would probably be equivalent to 25% sweet at other places, it was good for me since I honestly don't like my teas very sweet! Overall this place is a 4.5/5 - but if you factor in the price for the taste and quantity, especially for some of the college kids around here, it's a really good deal! P.s. bonus points their messages on their signage are pretty funny
I like the servers and the ambiance is younger and bright, but it can take a while to get food. This type of Chinese food isn't as common in Davis so it's more busy, but if you're not into this, not worth coming back. More a place for snacks, drinks, or maybe rice plates than a meal or soup. Spicy soup and braised beef had too much of an earthy flavor, would not get these again.

This is one of my go to places in Davis. I love the cleanliness (with store employees making sure to sanitize surfaces after each customer) and the cute signs all around the restaurant. I found the desserts to be especially cute - I decided to go back after I had dessert to try the food and the food was very satisfying too. The beef roll and ANY of the soups are great! They are served in a round metal mini wok style bowl and hit the spot! I have had minimal interactions with staff however found them to be helpful. I would recommend a friend to try this place. read more
It has consistently been one of my go-to restaurants in Davis. The highlight of my visit was the braised pork belly over rice. This dish was nothing short of amazing. The pork belly was incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned, making each bite a delight for the taste buds. Great food, I went to ucd for 2 years never checked the place out but I doordash from here. I was in town and decided to eat with a friend as it was late and a lot was closed. I feel like I missed out on this place it was very homey inside. Service was great everything was nice and quick, I like that you can pay first and receive your food after. We stopped here because last time in Davis we eyed it and planned to hit it up next time. Well next time is now! Upon entry it was packed around 6ish. Seated ourselves and took a long time to choose. Then I went up and ordered for all. The patrons were all Chinese. All 20ish too. Good sign. Water was self serve. By the time our order was in, the last 2 tables were occupied. A full house! They were on the ball unlike no other! They even bring the food out even being so busy! The lady owner even checked up on every single table to ask if all was A-OK! Prices seemed a bit high for a college town but Davis is unlike many in that cost of living/rent is high so I understand about Davis costs. We got: Squid with sweet and sour sauce (not the one you are used to). Tasty seasoning on the squid (entire one). The sauce was amazing with some tad of spicy and a sweet/sour taste that was different. Cold cucumber slices. Good. Beef roll. Excellent. Pan fried to perfection. Tasty beef rolled up in a light, airy pastry shell. Divine. Beat's Yang's on Stockton Blvd in Sac! Juicy crunchy chicken. The star of the show. Crispy, yet light breading with a bounty of flavors and the chicken is hot and juicy inside. Sooooo bomb! Beats any of the finger fried chicken of T4, Tapioca Express or boba shop varieties. A must get. Don't have to thank me now or later....just get it! They also have hot noodle pots, rice plates like beef stew, curry beef etc. Check my menu photos for more deets. Super tasty selections that are Taiwanese. They do a lot of snacks. My wife nabbed durian tofu pudding in little glass cups and flower pot tiramisu (served in mini flowerpots with a mini shovel included!). So cute. Both were 4 for $12. So 4 of each for $24. We were full so we did not try them yet so I can't review them but I'm quite sure they will be as good as the dishes we ordered. Definite "gotta hit it up" place when in Davis. The owner is very cordial and cares. The workers do not slack. Efficiency is a breath of fresh air in these covid times of short-handedness and bad service/attitudes. It was a hot Sunday afternoon so my boyfriend and I was on a mission to find a cold snack. We've been living in Davis since college but never tried Honey D so we decided to do it today! We were surprised to find out that they sell food/snacks! For our first time, we tried the tofu pudding combo and it came with glutinous rice balls and shaved ice underneath the tofu pudding! It was refreshing and not too sweet! We also tried the popcorn chicken and for an avid popcorn chicken addict I would rate it 9/10-tender, savory, and crispy thin batter. I wish they had spicy mayo or something but we also didn't ask because it was good by itself! The service was pretty quick and pleasant. Stores is instagram-able and cute decorations! We love coming to Honey D! They used to have a location in Sacramento but now they're only in Davis. My bf & I like to come here for the rice plates and dessert. They currently only have take-out and do not have dine in during covid. They do have 2 small tables outside to sit & eat which is what we did. I recommend their Braised Pork Over Rice plates! My bf likes to get the one with the chicken cutlets and I usually just get the reg one with no added toppings. This is really filling and I love the flavor on it. We also like to get their herbal jelly dessert. It comes with taro balls, sweet potato balls and red bean. They have a lot of other items to choose from on the menu such as noodle soup, dumplings, other appetizers to choose from, milk tea, & more! The owner here is also really nice! read more

They for sure emphasize health and safety here. They have QR codes outside to look up the menu or you can place your order at the window. Because it's not a crime to have dessert before dinner, take note, the durian tofu is rich and creamy. So decadent! Disclaimer, if you've never had durian before, the fragrance will permeate your car as you drive off with it :) We also enjoyed the mushroom ginseng rice noodles. If you are expecting vegetarian, know that it comes with chicken and a version of spam so don't let the menu name fool you. Hidden treasure was the quail egg!! Broth was tasty, came with fresh vegetables, enjoyed the roasted peanuts, and fish dumplings in it too. Quite a variety on their menu. We are looking forward to trying other items. read more

My wife and I stopped in for a bite to eat on the way home from the Sacramento Airport. She usually likes the Taiwanese style braised pork over rice which is generally made with pork belly, but their version here is a itch just minced pork. Flavor was good overall, not bland and not overpowering. I was expecting a different kind of Taiwanese sausage, but the the 3 little sausages had good flavor. Overall portion size was fair and fill our bellies. They have other dishes that we have had in the past that may be of better value. They have nice desserts and drinks to choose from. Overall, not a bad place to get a little taste of Taiwanese style cooking. read more

We have a Honey D Cafe at home but it's meh. We stopped in for some dessert after lunch. I chose the almond tea dessert with taro and sweet potato balls. It was funny because when it comes out, it literally looks like a bowl of milk. The almond flavor was nice though, just wish they gave soup spoons instead! Took me forever to finish the liquid. The sweet potato and taro were nice and soft so I liked that. The Okinawa milk tea was what's bringing my overall stars down. It wasn't even cold and had zero ice! And the boba itself wasn't very fresh. I can see how this spot might get popular with the Davis students but there are similar desserts with way more options across the street at Sweethoney. We had the lamb skewers which were seasoned nicely so maybe their food is better than the drinks here. read more

Very small amount of meat given for the price. Used to come here all the time and they would give much more meat for the portion size. Amount of rice is 3x the meat. Disappointing, won't be coming back anymore. read more
Honey D Cafe is an ok place to get your milk tea craving on. Besides the tea drinks there are rice plates, desserts, and snacks available to order. Milk tea places have to bring something different to the scene with so many now popping up all over the place. Honey D offers milk tea, but also has menu items that other similar cafes don't offer. I'd say that the Taiwanese style rice dishes are unique as well as their variety of Asian desserts. In terms of their milk tea, I found it middling. It's certainly not bad, but has a stronger bitterness than I would like. There is more tea feel than milk - so it's less creamy. In a pinch I'm fine with it, but I prefer the milk tea from other cafes a bit more. On the food side of things, I'd also say that it can get the job done, but for my personal taste, it's not something I would crave. I would certainly come to Honey D Cafe, but it may not be my first choice. read more

So disappointing that the quality is subpar since their menu offers so much. There seemed to be one individual working who was handling all the cashiering, the drink and dish making, and the serving, so it took some time for our drinks to come out. We got the: 1) Okinawa Pearl Milk Tea: -Okinawa milk tea, as I've had it at so many other establishments, is supposed to have a roasted brown sugar taste. Instead, this was definitely an overly sweetened Oolong milk tea. -The boba had a sour after taste and the texture was very mushy. After trying some I made sure to avoid consuming more with my drink. 2) Oreo Milk Tea: -Other places I've been to prepare this drink by blending Oreos with some ice cream or find some other way to include Oreo bits in a suspension that makes the drink appealing. -This honestly looked like someone minced half a bag of Oreos and allowed it to precipitate in a drink. -The milk tea used for this was EXACTLY the same one used for the Okinawa milk tea, except filled with Oreo crumbs. -It was visually unappealing with all the Oreo crumbs settling at the bottom half of the drink and even upon mixing, it just tasted like drinking an Oreo sludge. -My friend felt really sick after drinking this and could not finish it. 3) Matcha Red Bean Milk Tea: -The red bean was just a solid mass at the bottom of the drink, as if it collected at the bottom of a container and was all mushed together. -The matcha was not only extremely chalky, but there was also a slight chemical-y after taste that made this drink not very delectable at all. There are other boba and dessert places within walking distance, I would rather go and try those out before giving this place a second chance. read more

Sister store to the one in South SAC. They have a variety of food and desserts here. From hot foods (like beef wrap/roll, variety of rice dishes, dumplings) to snacks (lamb skewers, popcorn chicken, shiu mai, BBQ buns, egg puff) to desserts (tofu pudding with taro balls, ice cream, flower pot tiramisu desserts, egg puddings) to boba drinks. Flavor is not bad, but kinda pricey, especially the beef wrap ($9 ish). This location does not have bibimbap or hot noodle broths/soup dishes or soy sauce dip snacks like the one in SAC. The place is small so tables and chairs are compact size. If it's busy, you might not get a table. Please note - you have to go to the register to order first before you take a seat. Don't expect to get seated and have a waiter/waitress wait on you. Service is kinda lacking but it's probably cause they are still in soft opening. The owner lady was the most attentive when it comes to service, so she gets a kuddo. read more

I came to this place all the time, but this is my first time to write the reviews.Beef roll and mushroom ginseng rice noodles are my favorite, I order them every time. I love lamb skewers, so when I look at the pictures in the menu, I decided to give it a try, but the real skewers in my plate was too small, there almost not much meat to eat, I was so disappointed. I just ordered a taro milk tea from the store. I was watching the employee making it and the ingredients was only a bunch of powders and tea but I decided to trust to process. I the employee that it is a to-go order and asked her to seal it, she said she will but after I left the store I realized it wasn't sealed. When I get home and tried the milk tea, the taro at the bottom was rancid and has a sour taste. Im simply saying that it wasn't the ingredients i was expecting nor did I feel like it was worth my money, not saying the service was bad. read more

Formerly RareTea, I decided to stop by and check this place out while in Davis. I ended up getting a jasmine jelly dessert and they had a buy 3 for $10 deal, which ends up giving you one free since they're normally $5 each. Service is also good and quick. The line was long when I came to visit. They also have a decent amount of food to choose from. read more

Went to their grand opening event. They advertised free boba and food from 11-2. Started waiting in line at around 11:15. Once I finally got up to get my Free boba they said it was now buy one get one free that it was only until 11:30 that the boba was free. The event page said 11-2, nowhere on the event page or the Facebook page did it say there was a cut off time for free boba. Also no signage out front stating that. Very deceiving! Especially after waiting so about an hour. If I would have know that it was BOGO I would not have waited in line and would have gone elsewhere. Others I talked to who already received their boba got it free. It seemed like they weren't expecting such a big outcome and decided to start charging people instead. I was a little confused because they had a rare tea menu and rare tea straws? The boba was cooked good it was nice and chewy and the tea contained a lot of boba which is good because that's my favorite. Overall it was a good milk tea. Was just very put off by the false advertisement. They did have some seating inside. However we didn't get to sit down as it was very busy for the grand opening. read more

Ordered food from here on doordash and the order came within 40 minutes! I got the taiwanese braised beef with katsu and also the grilled squid. The grilled squid is amazing, very tender and lots of good flavor. It was very good. The seasoning is a bit spicy though, just a warning. The braised pork was underwhelming for me, not enough flavor and the texture was more like watery ground pork. Still giving this place four stars because the business is very honest and has great service. We also ordered a dessert through doordash and they forgot to put it in the bag. They messaged us right away and refunded us even before our doordash driver arrived at our house. Really nice workers here read more
