The initial inspection is pricey, but the actual repairs are fairly priced. I brought my car into honest auto to get my car ready for school term. It is fair to say that we ran into some interesting problems along the way. I ultimately felt that I needed to take my car to the dealership for the repairs. I must say, I found the manager Dave to be friendly and helpful throughout the process. I came in nearly everyday to talk about what was going on with my car, and the man was always willing to take the time out to discuss the details with me. My check engine light came on the other night, and the car was clearly running poorly. Honest-1 is very near my house and I have seen the several banners they have up that promise a "free check engine light inspection", so I went there the next day. When they were done, they wanted to charge me $120 for a full diagnostic, because the codes they had pulled were not very specific. Wary of this tactic, I politely declined, knowing my regular mechanic would do the diagnostic for free (if it was even necessary). Before he would give me my keys, the guy ( I think he was the owner) charged me $5 for "shop materials" and "hazardous waste disposal". Now, I know what it takes to do a check-engine light inspection, and there are no hazardous materials involved, although I suppose the digital reader they use could be considered shop materials. In any case, I pointed out that the signs out front said the inspection was free and the owner(?) just smiled and waited for me to pay. I know I can't really review their work, but when a business has the word "honest" in its name, I think it sets a high standard and this place just doesn't strike me as being reliable or trustworthy. I won't be back. UPDATE: got a call first thing this morning from Susan, their manager. She seemed genuinely appalled by the way her boss treated me last week; apologizing profusely and refunding my $5. I had already gotten my car repaired elsewhere and it will take a lot more to create any trust in Honest-1 Auto Care. read more

Went here for an oil change and to find out why my car was failing DEQ. They basically gave me a free diagnostic; told me I needed a new catalytic converter and oxygen sensor. I actually only needed the sensor, and the price they quoted was over 4x higher than what it ended up costing me. Thumbs up for the free diagnostic, and informative without being patronizing service; thumbs down for not telling me the least expensive fix up front. read more

I seriously used to love this shop. My latest visit today changed that. I went in for an alignment and transmission service (new fluid, filter, etc.). I was told that the car needed a few things in order to do the alignment, which at first I was skeptical but then eventually decided to ask them to quote it up. They also claimed they couldn't do the transmission service because they didn't have the proper tools. Okay. When I showed back up to speak to them in person about the quote they were working on, they informed me that as of THIS MORNING, they no longer work on Volkswagen's, therefore wouldn't be able to do any work and therefore a quote was pointless. Excuse me! If that was the case, why did you pull my car into your shop to inspect it in first place? And then charge me $34.95 for it, when you supposedly knew full well that no matter what you wouldn't be doing any work on it?! But you didn't disclose this to me when I arrived?! I can't stay silent any longer....In 2014 I took in my car to have the clutch looked at. The front office guy was as creepy as it could be, I didn't feel right. That feeling was justified when he said it would cost me $1,200 to replace the entire clutch because it was dead and gone. No, wait, there's more. After I paid this bill, I went to drive it home and the entire clutch was gone. I got it back to the shop, where he said they will need it a week to look it over and gave me one of their trucks to drive. The new bill was an additional $1,300 because they dropped the clutch they had gotten from the dealer. It wouldn't start when I tried to go home. In their lot. The shop was closing down and I couldn't leave. I called out that my car isn't starting. He really wanted to just leave me there. I told him I have to have a car. He gave me the truck back and it took another four days for them to 'fix' it. At least it ran when I left. They will rob you. ROB you. Stay away. read more

I took my car here twice, and tried for a third...the second time they did unauthorized work on a repair because (even though I asked them to buy a new part) "It would have taken days to come in." They never asked if I wanted it, though, they just repaired the old part. There were other horrible customer service issues with this appointment I won't get in to. I started having the same noise again and tried to make an appointment, but when I got there, they said they could not see me, that they 'tried' to call me but didn't have a phone number. (I am in their system, my car is in their system, my husband is in their system with his car, and you don't have a phone number?) They asked if they could reschedule for 2-3 days later. I took it somewhere else, and the issue is the repair was re-installed with RANDOM BOLTS, not the ones for my car!!!!! I see another review here where they blamed someone being new. I was having a water loss problem and took my escort into H1 for a check up. It cost me $230.00 to find out it was a head gasket and I got a quote for the repair and it was quite lower than I expected. A head bolt broke on removal but they took extra time to ice and heat it to get it out and repair the head gasket it was more then quoted but hundreds under what other repair shops quoted. All in all super happy and Suzzie kept me updated the whole time! read more

Had a clutch replacement done here in Dec 2012, and I was completely satisfied with the work, and with the unexpected loaner car (pickup truck, actually). Currently, my vehicle is in their shop for rear axle damage (due to my own negligent procrastination of not immediately dealing with a worn wheel bearing). During this crazy winter storm we had weeks before, me being a person who doesn't know NOTHING about cars (Well I don't know a lot) I was riding around with no coolant in my car my temperature gauge was moving back and forth from cold to hot. I was getting worried. I finally googled and checked my car and the number was answer was (needed a coolant flush). I called around to numerous places. (Jiffy lube, oil can Henry's, sears auto etc) every place wanted $100 or more. I drive a 2007 Ford Focus and I was determined to get another deal. I looked online at shops near my job and Honest 1 popped up. I read some reviews and was quite satisfied. I called and chatted with an lady, she was GREAT! Friendly, knew amazing details about cars and really helped my stress level. She was honest with prices. After I booked my appointment, I looked online at their website and found a coupon for coolant flush! I was so happy! I dropped my car off the next day and was greeted by Jerry at the front desk. He had outstanding customer service and was very attentive. I clarified and showed him the coupon. Instead of paying $95 I paid $59! My car was done by 10am and I picked it up on my lunch break. What a joke. They are anything but honest! I was told after my oil change that my oil pan gasket needed to be changed because it was leaking. It has never leaked a drop of oil in almost 150K miles, and my husband had looked just the day before and there was not a single drop of oil leaking. When I got home and told my husband, he went under the car and discovered that two easiest to reach bolts on the oil pan were loosened and the other harder to reach bolts were tight. There was also old oil smeared on it and dripping on the garage floor. It was old oil - not the new oil that had just been put in it. Don't trust your car to these people. read more

I have used Honest-1 for over five years and they have consistently given me excellent service. I can't say enough about their mechanics who not only repair what I came in for but also advise me on things that could go wrong in the future. This is not unusual for other service shops but it is presented in a professional manner while being shown what is happening to the car. Their prices are very fair and worth it. The environment is always spotless and inviting. Scheduling is superb and being notified when ready is very much appreciated. They also are able to drive me home if I have to leave the car to be worked on. Overall I rate these people the highest because I like their personnel, their work and they way they do business. read more

The Gresham location of Honest 1 has done oil changes on my car twice now. I find their prices to be quite fair, (check their website for occasional deals and coupons). The front office manager and my maintenance person were both friendly and straightforward with me. They honored the quote they gave me over the phone for a full synthetic oil change and I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time. They have free soda and Internet use to pass the time while you wait. I'll return. read more

In fact not even worth a one star, unfortunately there is no option for less than one star. The wipers on my minivan stopped working. I took it in for a diagnosis, was quoted $115.00 and estimate time was for diagnosis completion was 1-2 hours. Left the van and got an Uber to work. I get a call about 4 hours later and was told they were unable to find the fault and need 2 more hours which'll cost additional $225.00 and still no guarantee. I told them to stop it right there and get the car ready ready and I'll Uber back there and pick it up. I still ended up paying $115.00 for the something that didn't even happen. I took the van over to an electrician friend of mine same evening, he just played around a little with the fuse box and guess what the wiper works fine now. Thank you "HONEST" 1 auto care. RE: Honest1 auto care, GRESHAM, OR I took my 1999 Yukon Deanli in on 11/18/2013 to fix an electrical problem with my headlights and brights. They told me it should not be a problem and they would check it out. After a phone call on 11/19/2013 to check the progress I was told that he was working on the vehicle. I then asked when I could get my truck back. Answer, well you know these things can take time. Then I asked should I take the truck to someone else? They said no we can fix it. Wednesday 11/20/2103 the technician was off work. Thursday 11/21/2013 I asked what they had found after $316.00 in labor charges. I was told that the technician was still working on it. Friday 11/22/2013 I called again to see if they had found the problem? They said it could be a multifunction switch but not sure. So I asked who the owner was, got his name Steve Grimes and called him to complain. He then called the Gresham store to see what was going on. He assured me that they could repair the vehicle and get it back to ASAP which was 11/23/2013 at5.45 PM They did not resolve the issue. They did a work around so my headlights would work, but no brights along with a DRL switch they said I should hold to so I could fix it in the future. Cost to me $575.00 with no resolve. Monday 11/25/2013 at 12.30pm I took my vehicle to a shop referred by a friend. I explained the problem I was having they called a 3.30pm that same day told me the problem fixed it. I picked up my truck 11/27/2013 in the A.M. I was charged $685.00 to fix the truck. 11/29/2013 I went to Honest1, Gresham to speak with Steve Grimes the owner to seek compensation for a repair that was not satisfactory. He in so many words told me. I was not going to get any cash compensation, But he would look another one of my cars and give a discount, REALLY, after not fixing the truck I will trust them to work on another vehicle. I wish i could give less stars. I don't know why people go here unless they just want to get ripped off or maybe friends and family are reviewing for them. This place is extremely expensive. I was originally quoted 850 for lock cylinder, starter, and ignition plus a electric diagnosis. I don't even know why they needed to work on my starter considering that's not why i sent it in in the first place but i needed my vehicle to work. After having it a couple of days they told me that it was going to cost me 1222 not 850 like the original quote and they weren't even finished with my vehicle. They still needed to figure out the original problem that I had. They said they fixed the intake system so i don't know why i'm even getting an email about it now. At the end of it all with their "discounts" i ended up paying 1200 for everything. I will never go here again because of the outrageous price that i had paid. I shopped around afterward and could've had it all done for about 600. So thanks but no thanks! read more

IF YOU OWN A SUBARU DO NOT GO HERE! We had our spark plugs replaced and a tune up done here a little over a year ago costing us over 600 dollars! Since our recent move our car starting acting up. Once we took it to mechanics who know something about cars we found out that honest auto care in Gresham put in the wrong spark plugs that you are never to use in Subaru's and also installed our plug wires in wrong now causing us a multiple cylinder backfire severe enough we could barely drive our car. Not only did honest auto care use the wrong spark plugs but they put in the premium ones which are triple the price, and our car only calls for the standard ones. Our mechanic now told us that they literally charged us triple the price they should have for what was wrong with our car. Not only is their mechanics questionable but I felt an overwhelming sense of being talked down to when we went in to get our car diagnosed. Was having truck problems called to get a price on a diagnostic. I told them it was either my CO sensors or catalytic converter the numbers were cleared when I took it for a reading when my check engine light came on. Lady quoted 102. and change. then when I called back for a appointment they quoted my 101. and change. Brought my truck in they checked it told me it was either my CO sensors or catalytic. I said what that's what I told you. I came back to get my truck mad as hell I didn't want to yell at the lady so I just gave my AAA card and was going to pay she charged me 107. and change. She said why did you give me this card? I said you take them she didn't even know and then took 5.00 off my bill after I showed her the sign on your wall. Took my truck to Midis today they diagnostic checked it the right way obviously they said my co sensors were miss firing so it needed to be fixed and wow my truck works. I have been to honest 1 and now this has left a very bad taste in my mouth. What happened to taking care of the people that have been giving you there honest money for years. read more

I took my BMW in for a new radiator. I was very appreciative with the time and service I received. Norm called me a couple of times with info about the radiator, need to change serpentine belts, and they were in bad need of change. I also asked that my windshield fluid tank be replaced. He found instead that the motor needed replacement. He called me each time to make sure it was ok to fix. Norm was easy to trust. There was nothing he found or did that didn't need fixing. When I took the car to Portland BMW, they quoted me $7 to replace the radiator, and maybe the rear manifold. I was charged just less than 1K for all this shop did. The receptionist was awesome. I would recommend this place to anyone. I am an older woman, not from OR, so was a bit skeptical to use a shop I had no knowledge of. But after reading other reviews decided to go with Honest 1 Auto.
