We took our 2001 Honda in . The belt was slipping, the engine light was on and the temperature gauge wasn't working. Car ran fine. My wife took it in. I got it back. The belt didn't slip , the engine light was still on and the gauge didn't work. $400 for a new thermostat. I took it back today. He ran a code on the light (never did it the first time) and said my coolant sensor was out. Probably why the gauge didn't work in the first place!!! He said he could put a new sensor in it. I told him I couldn't afford another $400 for a 24 yr old car and left. I will never go back and recommend you don't either. read more

Glad to know this family run business is still the place to go if I need mechanical expertise. My 34 yr old Toyota pickup hadn't had the old transmission fluid changed for at least a decade. I have used Cleveland Auto several times in the past and knew they would take care of me. I met Phil, the next generation in the family and asked about additional fluids that may need changing, he stated he would flush the radiator also. Radiator didn't even occur to me because I always made sure that fluid is topped off... but boy was I wrong...Phil's recommendation found hose's on radiator that were full of 34 years of plague, choking water flow, just waiting to leave me stranded along the side of the road with an over heating vehicle. This place is the absolute best. They actually care about you and genuinely want to provide you with quality service. I took my girlfriends car here because her brake lights weren't working. I made the mistake of first taking her car to Honest1 Auto Care where they charged me 300 dollars for labor and "testing" which was for nothing because after all that, the brake lights still weren't working. I was furious and decided to take the car to Cleveland Auto Repair and I'm so glad I did. They were busy with clients but they still made sure to check out the brake lights because they were genuinely worried about me and my girlfriend driving with broken brake lights. 30 minutes later the brake lights were fixed. I've been taking my cars here for over a decade and they've been consistently great. A couple times they've actually charged me significantly less than their initial estimate, I think that's absolutely a sign of a good, honest business. This most recent time, I looked up an estimate on RepairPal for the repair I needed. Cleveland charged me $100 less than the lowest online estimate, and that was with them also replacing an additional part that was going bad. I dropped my car off after they were closed on a Wednesday night, they called me with the estimate Thursday afternoon, and had my car fixed before noon on Friday. I was having some clickety clickety click sounds when starting my car lately; it'd start, but I was afraid that the starter was going out on me. So I made an appointment to get it checked at Cleveland Auto. I was there bright and early today and Arlen went to work on it right away. Fortunately it wasn't one of those times when the noise stops just because the car's at the repair shop. It was definitely the starter. Instead of going home while the repair was being made, I decided just to wait, though Kathy told me she would have been happy to take me home and even pick me up again when the car was done. I'd brought my knitting with me so elected to stay. I got a really good taste of what Cleveland Auto is like when I'm not there, and it just confirmed all the good things I've said about the shop in previous reviews. Kathy was so efficient and friendly with customers both on the phone and in the waiting room. She handled everything that needed to be done calmly and courteously, sometimes doing three things at once. Arlen kept me updated on how the repairs were going, and my car was done right when he said it would be. Other employees kept Kathy informed about the vehicles they were working on. All phone calls to the mechanics were handled promptly as well. This is a family-owned business, and the owners, Arlen and Kathy, Bob and Nancy, and their employees, work long, hard hours to make sure their customers are well taken care of. Well, I can't believe it. Finally, hubby and I have a good, honest repair shop to go to (can't believe I can use all of those words in the same sentence) and we couldn't be happier. Our van was making a weird kind of noise and my hubby said we should get it checked out as soon as possible. I remembered reading all of the great reviews regarding Cleveland Auto Repair, and decided we should go to them first. My fellow Yelpers and their reviews did not lie! These are the nicest group of people ever - seriously. The nice lady (I'm going to have to get her name - sorry) that assisted my husband INSISTED she take him home (it's raining like crazy today) and will pick him up when our van is done. Thank you a million times, I can not tell you how grateful I am to your beautiful family!!! Just when I've decided there's no more honest people in the world, I stumble upon Cleveland Auto!! My recently purchased auto from east point auto on 82nd ave was over heating. Yes I said it. Do not purchase a vehicle from them without taking to a honest mechanic... aka Cleveland Auto! So this lovely couple helped me get my coolant level right and saved the day. They also did not charge me a dime! I scheduled an appointment and guess what? They only charged me for actual problems and we're reasonably priced and fast! Because of the Cleveland's integrity I had to wait to get in so I stopped around the corner at Gresham transmission and was told without so much as looking at my vehicle, stated it's a known issue with my model vehicle and it's going to be at least 2400$. There might be a transmission issue but Cleveland did not find it and I certainly was not charged for it. In fact they did not make any suggestions for other repairs. They told me come back when there's a problem. I'm am so relieved to not get ripped off! It's such a pleasant change. This Thanksgiving I shall be grateful for the Cleveland's, they've reminded me there are still people out there who believe in doing the right thing and I'm forever grateful to you all!! I had read all the positive reviews about Cleveland Auto, so I stopped by to have my 91 Toyota analyzed for a growling noise. Turns out it needed the bearings and seals replaced in the rear end. I researched what the project would entail and costs on Internet and I knew I would need professional help. I discussed my options and process with both Arlen and Bob and the more we spoke, the more it became apparent, these brothers are the best at what they do. I drop my vehicle off for repairs and it was stolen from their lot. After it was found the damages that have been done to the motor were unrepairable and Cleveland auto said I needed a new motor. And they excepted no responsibility for any of the damages being that the vehicle was stolen from their property. I would not trust this company with any of your vehicles. They do not care about your things they just want your money. They are very mean and arrogant and basically cost me $2000 that I cannot afford to lose. read more

I have never taken a vehicle to a shop and by the time I left (had to call a cab since I live several miles away) Arlen came out to the cab as I was sitting in the cab. He had already began work on my 03 Buick and gave me a lot of information just in the 20 minutes as I waited for my cab. He called me on my home phone within a couple of hours with a complete run down on my check engine light. I had a bad valve on number 3. Arlen gave me professional advice and what he would do if it were his car. I also had a ABS light that came on and he told me it was the harness to the right front wheel and explained they don't do "cobble work" like cutting into the harness and doing a backyard fix and the only way to do the job right was to replace the harness. We decided to do a complete head over haul (both heads on a v6 engine. I won't say the total cost but believe me I am no stranger to doing mechanical work over my 64 years of life. Not that I knew this was a fair price for the amount of work and parts involved but I called a local dealership (again, won't mention the name) and over the phone I explained that I had a bad valve and needed a estimate on doing both heads. The gentleman at this dealership told me the minimum would run 50% more than what Arlen quoted me and that was not even to repair the ABS harness. I had been using a mechanic friend in Wilsonville for years but his wife was divorcing him and he was going to lose his house and shop so I began looking for a new mechanic closer to my home and remembered that years ago I had taken a couple of vehicles into Cleveland Auto.. These folks are so nice, very professional, use high tech tools and have been in business since 1986 I believe. Cleveland Auto Repair is now my new go to mechanic shop. This place is awful. We dropped off my brother's car for a diagnostic test. They had his car for 4 days, and wouldn't return our calls. We finally went into the shop after a week, only to hear the mechanic tell us that they "haven't had a chance to look at the car yet". The following week, they called and said the fuel pump needed to be replaced. We told them to go ahead and replace it. After another full week, the shop calls to ask us again if we want the fuel pump replaced. Very frustrated at this point, we said "yes, but it needs to be done by the end of this week". We get the car back, and on the drive home from the shop, half of the exhaust and the whole muffler fell off. My brother also noticed that his stereo was set to "demo mode", which only would have happened if his battery died and got reset - but the shop mentioned nothing about that. Then, the next morning, my brother tried to drive his car to work, but the battery died. He had to wait 3 hours for a tow truck, and work wasn't happy about that. While he was waiting for the tow, he looked under the hood to find out that they either pinched or disconnected one of the alternator cords. So now, his car won't start at all and he can't even roll up his windows. It's completely dead. We went back into the shop asking for a refund or some kind of compensation after wasting $400 at this worthless business, they told us that if we got the car towed down the street to their shop, they would look at the alternator. However, they wouldn't refund us, and they wouldn't even pay for the tow. They proceeded to tell us that the muffler and exhaust pipe falling off was not their fault - when we had no problems with it prior. We are frustrated and disappointed, and we are never going back here again. read more

I'm from out of town, on the day before I was set drive home to Utah my engine started overheating. it was end of business day and I wasn't able to get any shops to see me. the next morning I set to looking for a shop in my direction home. I came across Cleveland Auto Repair online and loved the reviews. I took my chances and pulled in. the shop was packed with cars, which is a good sign that people love them, but also a good indicator that they wouldn't be able to help me. Once in the lobby the staff was so great, I explained my circumstance of being from out of town and with a car full of small children needing to get home. even though they were booked for weeks they decided they could help me out. It was quickly determined that I could have either a small issue like a new radiator cap or something as large as a cracked head gasket. after only a short time the great guys let me know that it was holding pressure with a new cap and I would be good to go on the road. I'm happy to report that my family did indeed make it home that day and all thanks to the friendly and kind staff at Cleveland Auto Repair. They helped me knowing they were getting a customer for life since I didn't live in the area, knowing that they would most likely not get even word of mouth accolades since I was leaving town that day. they chose to help me because they are good people with good business practices and I like that I was able to support that with my money.
