Guy sitting at the front desk must have a problem either with women or my eclectic appearance because his demeanor changed immediately when I came up to the desk opposed to his demeanor with the guy he had been helping. He ignored me when I first said I had an appointment at 9am and walked into the garage. Then came back and asked what I was here for. I said I had a groupon for the oil change. He asked me if I had an appointment. :-/ He refused to make eye contact with me and the way he spoke to me was odd. Telling me twice to hit "redeem" the groupon followed by my name. It was weird. I'm leaving 2 reviews hoping their garage crew does everything right. My advice, either get this guy out of the front desk customer service or check his attitude for him. I also overheard him arguing with a mechanic and snap at a woman employee for literally doing or saying nothing. I also heard him on the phone telling a BMW owner that their oil was leaking and that he might have messed it up. They had to tow it somewhere else because of it. He didn't push anything on me, but I have a feeling that was because of my personality. I spent the whole hour reading all the negative reviews, which are in excess, and the one common thing I was terrified of was the oil leak they create when doing any oil change. Apparently, and this is summarizing the other negative reviews, they loosen bolts on your oil thing, change your oil, and then smear old oil on it to make it look like it was leaking. This was the most egregious of the reviews, at least in my situation, sitting there waiting for them to change my oil. My advice is to read through all of these even if you decide to go in so you learn what tactics they use to squeeze your hard earned money out of you while holding your keys hostage (read that). Just don't go here. I won't be using the rest of my groupon because I'm honestly terrified to have my car in their shop again without me knowing what's happening or even to be able to recognize a shady practice. read more

Everything was great! From the person who helped me at the front desk to the people who worked on my car. This was my first time coming to Honest 1 but now this is my go to. The service was great, it was not expensive and it was done fairly quick, i don't know what else you would hope for from an auto care shop. Good job you guys and I'll be coming by more often. Wow I don't really know where to start. I originally liked their eco brand and looking to serve local customers. I also liked the coupon book but it is not worth it in the long run. They are really pushy on their up sells. I get it, they have overhead and expenses to cover but i find them dishonest and pushing work not really needed, chalked up as going over and above for the customers. When really they want your money. A friend of mine took his work van in for some work a few years ago and paid for a brake fluid flush and 3 times they told him it still needed flushed. Obviously they never did it in the first place. They also stripped out his oil pan and bolt. Never again would I recommend this very Dis-Honest auto care. Any place that charges you $30 for a run-of-the-mill radiator cap is suspect right away. Then $106 for a "diagnosis" when I'd already said "probably the alternator died", not to mention $85 to test it after they replaced the $232 alternator ($50 to $100 online), resulting in a total of $753. Just because they have honest in the name, it doesn't mean they are. I've spent over $10,000.00 at this place over the years between my wife's car, my children's cars, and my own. That may not be much to them, but that's a huge amount of money to me. They refused to honor the warranty on the work on the manifold on my Mustang. The mechanic claimed I had hit a curb and that is what caused the problem. Referred to 'yellow' paint on the bottom of the car. I know I've never hit a curb. I am the only driver of the car, it is a manual and no-one else in my household can drive a manual, and there is only one key. The paint referred to is BLUE and splashed onto the bottom of the car when I dropped a semi-open gallon can out of the trunk and it spurt out. The paint is still on my shoe. What did I do? Hit a curb and then go drag my foot across it afterward? The place I took it to said the problem was with the angle of mount. It was Honest 1's problem. Cost me over a grand to have it fixed. Work that should have been taken care of by the warranty. read more

I trusted them, I thought, boy, was I wrong. I don't know anything about cars and I put my trust in them. I've had 3 tuneups, not one of those tuneups did they change my spark plug, they were black. I told them I was moving out of Oregon to Nevada and to please give me a tuneup and have my car read, they said i requested not to have my plugs change, I don't know when they should be changed, that's what I relied on them for, i feel like an idiot, what have I been paying for the last 3yrs. i don't know how this can be my fault when I have no clue what is going on because I'm not a mechanic. Don't trust them, they are far from honest, they were also very defensive and rude on the phone and like I said, they said I chose not to have them changed. I have now found a wonderful mechanic in Nevada and they are disgusted with Honest 1, they say mechanics like that give a bad name to the honest one. I wish I could make these stars go negative! I can't believe this place is still in business. Recently discovered my engine is shot. Seems crazy as I keep up on my oil changes since I have an oil change package with honest 1. Turns out there is no way they have been performing the duties they promise in their complete oil changes. My new fave mechanic brought up a carfax report and discovered that honest one was "SUPPOSEDLY" doing oil changes after I bought an oil change package. Long story short, my engine needs to be rebuilt because of their lack of oil changes or incompetency. Don't buy in to their great deals and friendly attitudes. Definitely lazy in doing anything. I'm thankful for finally finding my new favorite mechanic. I can't believe I have to pay $7000 for an engine rebuild due to honest 1's shady shit. Should rename the place to DISHONEST 1. I had a great experience with this shop. Was having issues with my battery's connection, and I'd been putting off actually taking it in until on my way to work the car turned off while I was driving. Now, I knew exactly what the issue was and I told them in my little drop off slip. I was worried because the part that was missing was incredibly difficult for me to find on my own and the dealership wanted $200 to order and entirely new thing that I didn't need, just a specific kind of nut and bolt that was damaged. I also dropped my car off about 3 days before thanksgiving so I was very worried I wasn't going to make it to my family's thanksgiving. Luckily, they were able to get it done and ready by the day before thanksgiving and without ordering that $200 part. I've been driving it almost a week now and 0 issues with startup which was where I used to struggle a lot. I am so so so so grateful for these guys and will definitely take my car back here if needed, though hopefully nothing else weird happens. read more

Be careful. After a 10 second/$110.00 diagnostic test revealing an $860.00 repair I finally found a REAL honest mechanic that charged $260.00 for the same diagnosis and repair. This happened to me before at the same shop but with my air conditioning. The wrong thing was repaired and when I took it back they fixed the problem, so I paid twice for the real thing. You can get a free diagnostic test at Autozone and they could probably reccomend a real honest mechanic. Honest 1 Auto Care has named itself waaayyyy to generously. I was quoted $1200 for my repair. When I presented the yelp coupon for 15% off I was then advised the repair was actually $1300 and they discounted the diagnoses. So i couldn't use the additional discount. My car will be finished tomorrow. I will pick up, pay and never return to them. They won't honor a coupon and changed the quote after I approved the repair. If the repair was indeed $1300 and you are discounting the diagnoses tell me that. Don't tell me it is $1200 then not allow my coupon which I advised at the time of service because you discounted something without talking me to. Communication means everything. Frustrated and unhappy. That's no way to do business. When I addressed it with "Susie". She agreed she made a mistake with the actual quote yet won't make it right. Don't know what it is about this company. But I've brought 3 of my cars here. And each time they messed up on the type of vehicle they were servicing. First it was an oil change for a CX-9 and they had listed a protege when I picked up the car. Then we got a new car, I called it in. They got all the info they needed(or at least I thought they did). They asked for the year, make, model and engine size. We made an appt and even after all the questions, they STILL had the CX-9 listed for service. It didn't happen to 1 car but 2. And even if they give you a 30-45min window, expect it to be there double that time. I was there an hour and a half for an oil change even after making an appt. Time to move to a better shop who can be a little more attentive cause if their messing up on the info im giving them, what's to say their not messing up under the hood? read more

I have had my oil changes here for quite some time and the few times work needed to be done the price seemed fair and the work was done well and quickly. They always seem to accommodate my schedule and it is one of the few waiting rooms I enjoy being in, not to mention it is walking distance to a lot of other spots to wait at. They are a very environmentally conscious auto repair shop too, by using re-refined synthetic oil and even the offices are set up green. I think this is a good place to take most cars, but would say to avoid it if you have any complex problems with a foreign car. New to this area. Looking for a shop for transmission service. Made an appointment over the phone and stopped in to check out the shop. I was quoted a price for the service upon telling the receptionist my vehicle info. I arrived early for the appointment. Nearly a half hour into what was supposed to be an hour appointment, I was informed the service for my pickup was going to be much more costly than originally quoted. I decided to go ahead with the service as I didn't want to postpone due to leaving on a trip the next day. If I could give this place zero stars I would. We had a situation where we had to get our car towed and AAA sent us to this place to get it fixed. When we got there I explained to them what the situation was and what I had observed. After they took a look at it they came back with a quote which totalled over $1600 and a laundry list of what needed fixed. I made some phone calls to people more in the know than myself and I was told the problem they diagnosed was in no way that expensive and that the car was still drivable so we decided to get out of there asap. Once we got the car home I popped the hood and found that they had left the radiator cap open, which resulted in a loss of fluid, hadn't closed up the air cleaner unit and had left the oil dipstick loose. When we decided not to give them our business they were very rude and tried to get back at us by not putting the car back together. Absolutely unreal. Even worse upon further inspection I found that the most expensive problem that they had diagnosed was not even in need of repair and they failed to diagnose the true issue that we had experienced. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a mechanic. Don't trust these people with your vehicle! They are the farthest thing from honest and incompetent beyond belief. so on 12/15/13 my car broke down close to honest 1 care at gresham, i had always thought that the name "honets 1" didnt felt right at all!! but i was close to the place and i needed help so i towed my car there. First they made me feel like i was their number one custumer, the lady who works on the front desk(phone) offered to help me find a coupon for 100bucks off, so i told her to fix my veh. she called me the next day and said that; the mechanic had inspected my car and i needed a new water pump. $1136.24 dollars later, they said that it was a head gasket, that it was gonna cost me about 7000, to repair. Second. i did had $1136.24 dollar. so i told her that i was gonna have to put my next two paycheck together to pay that amount. she got angry at me, said that i was gonna get charge $25 dollars a day to keep my car there. and that if i didnt pay they would sell my car.( i was not there number one costumer any more). i never said that i wasnt going to pay, i just needed a few weeks to pay!. they had estimated my new water pump at 728.00 some how it went to $1136.24, ???? chrismas time?? they needed to pay rent?? bills?? not sure why. third. if they had inspected the veh, why didnt they told me to begin with; that the water pump was not going to get my car running???? why would i needed to spend the money on a water pump when i was not going to be able to drive my car???!!!! at the end i ended up paying the 1136.24 for a water pump wish i probably didnt need. i got nooooo 100 bucks discont/ coupon. Fantastic experience with Honest-1 Auto Care. I called Scotty when my transmission breathed it's last breath 2.5 hours into a 9 day road trip. Although Scotty was not allowed to do the repair due to warranty issues he was still kind enough to assure the security of our vehicle while we were awaiting the warranty service groups action. He kept the car at his location in Gresham for several days and acted as a liaison between several different parties while we were trying to coordinate the repair of our car. He steered us toward a great rental company who also took very good care of us. You just don't see this kind of neighborhood honesty and courtesy any longer. Scotty was great. I cant speak for the repairs but I can speak for the unprofessionalism of the Owners brother by the name of Aaron. I went there to tow a vehicle for a customer and was greeted by Aaron's upprovaked hot temper and profanity with regard to the car is was there to tow. I had not even hardly exited my tow truck when he came out of the building and aggressively asked what I was there for, as I pointed to the car, and started to give him the name of the customer her pointed his finger in my face and told me that the "F-ing" car wasn't leaving utile the bill was paid by the customer. I asked if he wanted to call or did he need me to call and inform the customer and he got supper aggressive and was yelling that he didn't care, the car wasn't leaving without the bill being paid. I totally understand the billing issue. What I don't understand is why he feels it necessary to yell at me. I was just there to pick up a car. No issues on my end. If he is upset with a deal gone bad then he should take it up with the customer, NOT someone that has nothing to do with the issue. I have never had any problems with H-1 in the 10 or so years that they have been there, only this Aaron person. He is absolutely on the top 5 for most unprofessional and hostile shops over my 20 years of Towing in the Gresham Area. I would say go to the Clackamas Store if you must use Honest-1 where I have never encountered a rude are unruly counter person. My wife took my daugher's 2000 Chevy Impala in for alignment with a coupon for $59.95. They inspected the vehicle ($35 charge to tell me they could not do anything) and told my wife that they could not perform the alignment as both front wheel bearing hub assemblies were bad and needed to be replaced, with a quote for $700. The next day we took it to another alignment shop and they told us that there was a little play in the bearings but not bad enough that they could not perform an alignment. This is a classic bait an switch tactic where they get coupons to lure customers in and then try to up sell you services that you do not need. Avoid this place at all costs!!! read more

I just thought it was weird that after it was done and I was getting the keys, the guy at the desk says "besides your check engine light being on everything looks good." No offer to check it out, just seemed to assume since I used a groupon that I wasn't going to spend any money. I mean I had my kid with me, you'd think they would offer to check for their safety more than anything in case it was something serious. But after reading other reviews it's probably for the best. Lets just say the weekly coupons show how bad they need new business. Hands down the worst experience with any mechanic shop ever! I will keep my story short and sweet. Had an 1st apt. with these guys getting ready for a long road trip and I wanted my car fluids checked and topped if needed. They had a "deal" on one of the ads they sent out for all fluids and inpection included. I knew this place was gonna be an issue when I walked in with my appointment and they couldn't figure out how to check me in. They took care of 5 customers that walked in after me as I stood there at the desk waiting. 2 people involved, 1 of them apparently was the manager (by the way not a very nice lady) finally the gentleman helping me asked if I was all set and I replied , " i dont know am i?" Somewhere during the service of my car called me to notify that there was a leak coming from my radiator but they were not sure where so they would have to dismantle my car which would cost me money on labor. I told them the radiator was Brand-new as I had just had it replaced 8 months ago. From that point on it was downhill. I was given no options and no advice by the manager. I told her to please check the plug as it sounded like it May have been stripped. She said she had one and she would go ahead and do that. Got a callback to notify me that my car was "ready" for pick up and I asked the manager if the plug had solved the issue which she replied "no it still leaking everywhere". I was fuming. I got into it with them when I went to pick up my car (no yelling) and told them that I was not gonna pay for a fluid top off on a car that was leaking everywhere. I told them that my car was not leaking when I brought it in and they were giving me back-a broken car. The manager (suzy) took no responsibility but took a ton of offense and got nasty and rude with me at the front desk in front of everybody. I left and took my car back-to the guy who had replaced my cooling system 8 months prior and he had a few not very nice things to say about that place. Long story short, he checked my car replace the plug and topped it with new coolant, my car was good to go. When I called back Honest 1auto to tell them about what had happened and asked for a corporate or head office number to file a complaint they refused to give me one and told me that my car was broken when I brought it in and they had not done anything to cause any damage. The manager would not even talk to me on the phone and the reception who was handleling the issue hung up on me. When I called back I asked her if we had been disconnected or if she had hung up on me and she said she " i do not get paid enough to deal with this". Nicely done Honest 1. read more

As other reviewers have noted, the staff is friendly and the place is clean and welcoming. Other than that I am very disappointed with the service I received. I first took my car in a few months ago after calling AAA and asking for a recommendation in Gresham, as I am new to the area. Honest 1 was on their list, so I made an appointment for a "winterization" check-up. I was told one price over the phone, and another when waiting for my vehicle. Suzy asked me how I came up with the $65.00 or so (which was written on their paperwork). I explained it wasn't a directive of mine or anything, just what the woman who answered the phone quoted me. She said she would honored the quote, as the woman who spoke to me was apparently new and made a mistake. Fine, all good until yesterday. I had my car towed in after having my battery jumped, and then dying on me while idling. Tow truck drive said it's probably the alternator as well because it had died after being jumped. He apparently was right, as Honest 1 called after running tests and said it was the battery and alternator and would be $741.00 for labor and parts. Went to pick up the car yesterday, and was asked to pay $856.00. I asked what happened to the $741.00, Suzy said it was her mistake, that she forgot to give me the 10% discount(?). Anyhow, after driving the car to a local appointment last night the car was idling funny and stalled out while stopped. Called Honest 1, they had car towed to the shop and I took an Uber home. Jerry calls me this morning and says they need to run some tests, as whatever is wrong with the car now had nothing to do with the work they just did. I told him to give me a break, that just seems way too coincidental! I was a bit rushed with him and told him I would have to call him back. I called back and apologized if I was rude, and explained that it just seemed like one hell of coincidence that right after I have them work on the car, I have an entirely new, unrelated problem and that I was assuming the worst, that since I'm a person that knows nothing about cars that they might be taking advantage of me. He said that he probably would feel the same way, but that wasn't what was going on. I then asked him if they had even driven the car after they double checked their work, as maybe something was just loose and possibly resolved the issue. He said they had not. He said he just needed my permission to run another test for $115.00. I told him I had to call him back and instead got in an Uber and picked up my car. I drove it back to my office, googled the make and model of my car along with "alternator and battery replaced, now stalling". First forum that came up stated that the ECU was "relearning" and just needed to run the car for a while, which I did and car is totally fine now. I just don't believe they had never heard that this is a common issue after replacing the battery and alternator on Mazdas, especially with all the years of experience they tout. I was pissed (rightfully I believe) and drove back to the shop and asked Jerry how many years experience the head mechanic had. After answering 30-40 years I asked him how I was able (with no car repair experience) to figure out in 2 minutes on the computer what was wrong, and get it back to perfect running order without spending a dime, while his experienced mechanics would have to run another $115.00 test?! When I told him it was that the ECU was just resetting he mumbled something about not knowing anything about a ECU all while avoiding eye contact with me. I told him I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews, and that I would be posting one myself. Who knows what they would have told me was wrong after charging me for another test. Bottom line, like I told Jerry, they should be ashamed. In my opinion they are shady crooks with refreshments and a nice waiting room. read more
