I used to take my car to the dealership for oil changes and service, and was never quite sure if they were really recommending services that I absolutely needed. At Hon-Man, I feel that Tait is giving me the truth in what I absolutely need done, and what can wait until later. I first scheduled an appointment with him when to my dismay, my A/C was malfunctioning in the scorched heat of summer. Tait was quick to return my phone call, and was nice enough to squeeze me in to get the problem diagnosed that very day. Since then, I've had some other work and maintenance done on my car (It's 6 years old, so it's no spring chicken!), and each time I feel that Tait will go out of his way to try to get the best possible solution without trying to break the bank. Exceptional Service w/ Integrity and Delight! This is my first time owning a Honda. I'm coming from over a decade of German cars, aka, money and soul-sucking, depreciating, borrow from your future mistakes. I bought a used little red Honda Fit, stick shift of course, whose name is Strawberry, because well, she looks like a strawberry! This was my very first visit to service the Strawberry, and my boss is a former customer of Hon-Man and sent me that way. I was nervous and excited because this was my first time going to a non-dealership place to service my vehicle. I brought in a sticky note of questions I had, and David addressed each and everyone one of them in detail! I wanted to know if he had recommendations on headlamp cleaning, and he did, typed out the contact information for me on my receipt. I also wanted to know what would be needed to replace my bumper, because they sell a pre-painted one on Amazon, and he printed for me the repair sheet and wrote out each of the part numbers for the clips and screws I would need. Seriously, so splendid and much appreciated. When I walked in I quickly introduced myself to David and apologized for being a little late (there was some construction outside) pulled out my sticky note and he explained all the work that would be done on my vehicle. I chose the signature service which includes oil change & filter, top off fluid levels, inflation of the tires, tire rotation (if needed), test drive, choice of oil (synthetic blend, high mileage, or full synthetic) free wiper blades, cabin filters and light bulbs (if needed) and comprehensive inspection, with detailed report provided. I was going to wait for the service and work remotely on my laptop. The waiting area was great, and there was a huge fish tank with those cute clown Nemo looking fish swimming around. Sadly, there was a dog bed, but no dog. I asked about the dog, and David said he might make an appearance later but didn't. I hope I see the Hon-Man dog on my next visit! There was a little desk area to work on in the waiting area which I appreciated and utilized. There were headphones, chargers, and ample outlets in the room. Sofas were comfy, and there were free snacks. FREE SNACKS!! I sat down and connected to the free wifi and started working away, turning around from time to time hoping the dog would show up but didn't, that's ok, next time! The service didn't take long, I was in and out in about 90 minutes, and halfway through my wait, David came to ask about what oil I wanted, I had no idea, balsamic or olive? I asked what his recommendation would be and he explained each one to me, DAVID IS AWESOME. I went back to my laptop and worked some more and within about another twenty minutes or so I felt a tap on my shoulder, because I had headphones in, and my car was ready! I walked to the checkout area, passed the snacks, (FREE SNACKS!), and David thoroughly explained every last morsel of detail and scope of work to me. Although I did end up selling my Honda for a new car outside of Honda/Acura, I did want to document my past experiences. I have used Hon-Man for my needs during when my 03' Accord was between 120-157k miles. I have received exceptional service every time and Dave was always helpful in walking me through the issue as well as identifying what the issue was if the car did not start. I gotta give it up to the Hon-Man! My AC recently went out and i called them up and they had me bring my Civic in to diagnose it. I already figured what the issue was but I needed a reliable and reputable shop I can trust to check it out for me. Within 20 minutes the diagnostic was complete and gave me an estimate. Being that they were book that week I would have to come back next week which is understandable being their lot looking full. I came back and dropped my car off in the morning and that same day it was ready for me to pick up! Absolutely happy that my AC is now working! The best part about it is that they are completely honest with you Prior to dropping my car off I had a friend at Honda give me an estimate which was far out ridiculous. They have a waiting area that is helpful especially if you have children (which we do: 4!). They are kind and allow the kids to play with the lizard. They have snacks and drinks for patrons. I have finally found a place I can completely trust to treat me fairly and not try to make me feel badly that my car is not brand new! After feeling violated by car dealerships and their sleazy business practice of making even minor problems cost hundreds of dollars, I was shocked when I brought my 2011 Odyssey in to Hon-Man for an oil change, new headlight and to fix it from dying at every stoplight on my way to work and drove away with it better than ever for only $135. Took my wife's 2004 Acura in for a second option after getting a dealer quote for well north of $1k. David took his time to look at all the complaints, and then determined that the only issue was a leaking power steering pump, and that it could be removed and re-sealed for much less than the dealer quoted. While he had it, I had him replace the main belt and replace the cabin air filter. The pump came out looking better than new, and all traces of the leaking fluid were removed. Top notch service and it didn't take all day either and well under silly dealer pricing. read more

I've written a review for Hon-Man before, but I just have to write another one after my visit today. I went in for a signature service because it had been 8 months since I had last been in, and though I hadn't driven my car a whole lot due to COVID, I thought it was time to change the oil and get a "check up". After I had been there a short while, I was told that I really didn't need an oil change and probably didn't need the other check up either (since the car was running well and I had had no issues since my last time there). I was told that the service technician would be willing to do it if I wanted, but would be also willing to not charge me at all and I could wait four or so more months to bring it in. I chose to wait since it wasn't needed now, but my question is...how many other car service companies would have treated the situation that way? I suggest that most companies would have just changed the oil, did the big inspection, and charged me the fee without letting me know that I probably didn't need the service. I always know that I'm getting honest, competent service when I take my car to Hon Man! They are just the best! read more

I've been taking my car to David for years now and wanted to let those that have a Honda or Acura know that this is the only place you should take your car. My first experience with them was when I needed a lot of work done on my car. I was quoted at other places $1,500 all the way up to $2k. When I brought my car in to Hon-Man the work was $550. My AC stopped working in my Honda Fit. I needed it fixed fast. It's hotter than hell here. I submitted my info on their website with some basic info on my repair needs. Tait, the owner, called me to talk to me and get a better idea of what was going on and what I needed. I dropped the car off and told them to do whatever was needed to fix the AC. They called me back and the car was fixed by the end of the day. They were fast, friendly and very reasonably priced. It ended up being a leaking valve on the AC. They also have a cool bearded dragon. When my kids showed interest in it, they got him out of the cage to let my kids see it closer and pet it. That was very cool of them. I also have a Honda CR-V. Go somewhere else if you can. There's a professional way to say we bought a lemon, and then there's what this mechanic did. He brought us back in the garage where our car was and showed us what was wrong, so this was helpful and I appreciated it. But he was practically rubbing it in our faces that we bought a lemon. Saying condescending things like "I don't know what you guys were thinking, buying this sh%t" and making it a very unpleasant, tense experience. We even told him that we had a certified mechanic look at it before buying. We aren't all seasoned mechanics with 20+ years of experience. I think he felt he could get away with berating us because we are young adults. I hope all mechanics aren't this rude. Edit: seems they saw this review because the mechanic called and apologized for his rude behavior, turns out the car isn't a lemon(!) and will charge us for only one hour of labor vs three since it was only a wiring issue and they should have started with that. read more

I live in Gilbert and my neighbor uses Hon-Man for any repairs of his Honda Odyssey and Acura MDX. We have a Pilot that need some overdue maintenance and an RDX that had an emission light issue. They are in Tempe which is a bit of a drive but definitely worth it! I took the RDX in first. They called to let me know that the issue was related to the turbo which was not good news. A new turbo is $6k and a rebuilt turbo is over $2k. They took a couple of hours to see if they could do some adjustments that would resolve the issue as an alternative and I was glad they did. Tait was able to replace some parts and keep the repair under $900 - huge savings! When I picked up the RDX I dropped off the pilot which they went though thoroughly and told me exactly what I should fix. They could have just charged me 3x as much and done the replacement or tried to charge for services that I did not need, I would not have known better. They were also upfront about the amount of time it would take and then actually finished on time and ahead of schedule. These are great guys and great mechanics and I highly recommend! If you own Hondas or Acuras and you are not using Hon-Man you are over-paying for bad/mediocre service! read more

This review is long overdue. I have been an extremely satisfied client of Hon-man for 10+ years. They have helped me navigate through all of my car issues with my Honda. My old vehicle has over 200,000 miles and I have Hon-man to thank in helping my car live a long, happy, and healthy life. Hon-man's website is well put together and easy to use! Their drop off system works perfectly with a busy work schedule. They have fair pricing and are completely honest. They work with me to figure out major fixes and have never pushed any type of service or fix on me. I completely trust them and so thankful my brother found these guys! When I lived in California and Nevada, I still made sure to have my car's appointment at Hon-man whenever I visited Arizona. When I had a problem in a very remote location in Nevada, I called Tait and he respond back very quickly within the same day! He was patient with me (I'm not car savvy at all, they know this) and asked me to check and listen for certain things. He explained my fix and he was spot on! Luckily I was able to get my car back to Arizona without any damages so they could look at it. I always assumed that using my Honda dealership's automotive shop was the most reliable way to get a job done right. I knew I would have to pay a little more, but I thought I was just paying for piece of mind. And then they quoted me $750-$800 to change the transmission, brake, coolant, and power steering fluid and change the serpentine belt (plus another $180 to look into a check engine light). That sounded a little high to me, so after a quick Internet search, I called Hon-man. They told me: - that my car doesn't need any power steering fluid because it doesn't use the same power steering system as other cars (so why was the dealer recommending it to me?) - that my serpentine belt shouldn't need to be replaced for another 20-40k miles. - that they wouldn't need to do a complete flush of my fluids, and that they could instead top them off. - he was honest about what I needed to do and what I could put off (unlike the dealer, who acted like everything needed to be done that morning!) They also gave me a price that was far, far less than what the dealer was going to charge me. Like, a small fraction of what I would have paid otherwise. I'll be taking my Honda to these automotive experts for as long as I have my car. No more need to bring it to the dealer ever again. I've been here a few times for diagnosis and estimates for my aging Honda CR-V. I haven't had to have any repairs done here yet, but when the time comes, you can bet your sweet ass I'll be coming here. So the first time I came here was a year and a half ago when my air conditioner exploded during the Summer. They gave me a much lower estimate than what Showcase Honda gave me, but I was able to get Honda to cover more than half the cost of it since it was a common issue and my car had reasonably low miles, but the catch was that I had to have it done at Showcase Honda (or an authorized dealership). The next issue happened the other day when my car wouldn't rev past 2500rpm and the engine light came on as I entered the freeway during rush hour. I took it to Showcase Honda again because they were close to where I was. I was way overdue for an oil change, so I asked them to give me an oil change and check the computer to let me know what the error code is for my check engine. It was late, so they would tackle this the next day... I started doing research while I was waiting to be picked up, and it turned out to be an easy repair if it was what I thought it might be... I went back inside and told the service guy not to fix it - just give me the code. I was planning to either fix it myself or take it to Hon-Man regardless of what they said it would cost. Got a call the next morning from Showcase giving me the error code and telling me it would cost nearly 400 bucks to repair. I told him I would pick it up that afternoon or the next morning. I did some more research on the code they gave me and the internet said it was common to trip this particular sensor if you were low on oil or had dirty oil. I called back and told this to Showcase and he said that it's super rare and that he's only seen it happen in extreme cases when the oil is super dirty. I asked if they tried revving it again or if they drove it after doing an oil change and asked if my oil had been low or dirty. He said my oil was fine and that they revved it and it was still having the issue. If I was a stupid dummy, I would have just said "go ahead and fix it." This is how Showcase makes their money. Unnecessary repairs. I'm seething about that place, but I won't talk about it here... I already gave them an earful (and I think there are still some people there with some scruples, but many without). Anyway, I go to pick up the car, and it's fine. They left the check engine light on for me (because they wanted to extort another 60 bucks out of me), but the car runs fine. I drove it over to Hon-Man, and they looked at it immediately and turned off the check engine light and listened to the engine and such. They gave me sound advice, set up a paper trail on me this time, and didn't charge me a dime. (my favorite part was when he was taking notes in his computer on my recent car issue, he wrote "car was running like shit." and then put down the proper codes and whatnot. I laughed.) It's entirely possible the problem could come back - if it does, I'll be coming here to get it fixed. The night before, they had quoted me over the phone the cost to fix it and they came in under 200 bucks - half the price of Showcase for the same exact job. Not only that, but the guys here are all cool and nice and fucking honest. That's the most important thing - they are honest. This place is hard to find - there's not really a sign out on the street that I could see - you just have to know where it is. In spite of this, it seems to always be pretty busy and they are more or less by appointment only, but they don't have to do unnecessary repairs to get that way. When your car breaks or something goes wrong or it starts running like shit, it's never a good time. You start to stress about money or how you're going to get from appointment A to obligation B. Then you start to stress over where to take your car - who can fix it - who isn't going to rip you off... It can be intimidating going to a repair shop and being at the mercy of someone with more technical expertise than you. That's not the case at Hon-Man. These guys are definitely experts, but not intimidating at all. They are simply awesome and trustworthy. I'm never taking my car anywhere else. read more

I was referred to Tate by a friend who described him as honest and fair. I got on Yelp and could barely believe my eyes.. All 5 star reviews? Is this possible? I thought I needed new brakes so I took my Honda to Tate. I was amazed when he called and told me all I needed was a cleaning. For the first time in my life someone told me that an auto repair is going to cost far less than I had anticipated. WOW. In addition to cleaning my brakes he gave me a health break down of my car, letting me know what to look out for, what needed fixed and what could wait a while. This type of customer service has forever changed my mind about auto repair shops. I am now a customer for life, and will never take my car anywhere else as long as I reside in Arizona. Hon-Man literally saved me about $1,500. The A/C went out in our Civic and after taking it to a shop and spending $150 to diagnose I was told the compressor went out, and that because of this they would need to replace all major A/C components due to metal shavings. They quoted me over $1,600. So I called a mechanic friend for advice and told us that some shops can flush the system and recommended Hon-Man. I called them up and they said worst case I'd be looking at $1,200 with the full flush, but said to bring it in first because it may be significantly less. I stopped by and Tait came out to look at it. He spent about 5 minutes tinkering with it and told me the clutch on the compressor just needed shimmed. He said he couldn't guarantee how long it would last, but he really thought it would fix it and if it didn't, he'd credit me toward the big repairs. $80 later and the A/C was blowing ice cold...and has been for 8 months! (Update 1/26/2016: A/C is still going strong 2 years later) I really appreciate a shop that is willing to actually find the underlying issue instead of just throwing parts at it.
