A bit flustered, I tried getting through to the "big guys" that cleaned my ducts and performed a tuneup a couple of weeks earlier. After a couple of failed attempts at getting through, I spoke with a representative that informed me they were unable to attend that night and I'd have to wait until the next day for a service call. That nearly sent me over the edge of sanity, not knowing how my cat and I would make it through the night. Being new to the area I didn't know who else to call so I called my Realtor and had a meltdown. He calmed my nerves and put me in touch with his long-time, trusted heating guy, Dom Mitro. Dom and his brother were at my house within ten minutes to assess the situation. They quickly determined the problem but needed a part to fix the furnace that couldn't be gotten until morning. Hesitantly I turned over a key to my home to this stranger, packed an overnight bag and my cat up, and found alternative accommodation for the night. I called Upper Canada Mechanical and Dan Plomish answered the phone on the first ring. As soon as I described the system that I have he knew the complex where my home is located and has done work for some of my neighbours. Dan and his crew arrived at the scheduled time and began the task to remove the old system to get a much more energy efficient and quiet system in the house. They put down work mats and were careful to make sure our two house cats didn't get out the door as they came and went. I am confident that I wasn't be sold anything more than what I need to accomplish my goal. We are extremely happy with the job that was done as well as with the equipment that was installed. After feeling like it was a giant sales pitch, and pressure to get a whole new system from the start, the tech replaced the contactor switch and said it may or may not work, we'd have to wait and see. By the next day, still nothing. I felt kind of bamboozled by the first company so I contacted a trusted friend who has done a lot of work on my house and my parents house. Shout out to Two Ells! Without hesitation Brian sent me Zach's number and highly recommended him. I called on a Friday night at almost 8pm, left a message and Zach called me right back! Our furnace was 20 years old, and the fan died due to a burned-out circuit board. Further inspection of the removed furnace revealed more extensive damage... it was due for a replacement. Zach was honest about our options for the repair and didn't try to up-sale us or other high-pressure sales tactics. He was super friendly and even let my 2 year old son watch him work with his tools. Today I had the good fortune to have a Mackay technician diagnose and repair our pool heat pump…read more Dan Swords was able to diagnose a faulty voltage boost capacitor within minutes. I was so happy because I feared that many other complicated problems that would suggest I had buy a brand new heat pump. Dan also did a thorough cleaning of the filter, coil fins. The freon level was also checked, no leaks. Dan cleared any other issues that may have caused the heater to default, only having to replace the voltage boost capacitor.
