Somehow, despite having lived here for years and spending plenty of time around downtown…read moreProvidence, I had never been to The Eddy. I'm honestly not sure how I missed it, because this is exactly the kind of place I like finding. It is the true definition of a small cocktail bar. The space is tiny, intimate, and has a very specific atmosphere, so if you're looking for a big place with plenty of tables, this probably isn't it. If you're looking for a great cocktail in a cozy little bar, however, you're in the right place. The cocktail menu is excellent. There are a lot of creative options that go well beyond the standard collection of Old Fashioneds, Margaritas, and Martinis you'll find at most bars. The drinks are imaginative without becoming gimmicky, and the combinations we tried were really well balanced and interesting. You can tell there is some serious thought behind the cocktail program, and it makes ordering something new a lot of fun. Our waitress was fantastic as well. My wife ordered a drink that apparently isn't something every bartender is familiar with, so our waitress went back to the bartender to ask about it. The bartender immediately knew exactly what she was talking about, which was a nice little reminder that these people actually know their drinks. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience easy without hovering over us. The music deserves a mention, too. It was fantastic and fit the atmosphere perfectly. The Eddy has that comfortable, slightly dark cocktail-bar feeling where you can sit down, have a drink, listen to good music, and actually enjoy being there rather than feeling like you're sitting in a loud restaurant waiting for someone to bring you your check. My only real warning is that this place is genuinely small. That is part of its charm, but it also means getting in and finding a seat can be difficult at times, particularly when it's busy. You probably shouldn't show up with a large group expecting to immediately find a table. For two people looking for a couple of really good cocktails, though, it's pretty much ideal. The prices are also quite reasonable for the quality of the drinks. You're obviously paying cocktail-bar prices rather than dive-bar prices, but I didn't feel like we were being taken advantage of. Considering the creativity and quality of what we were drinking, I thought the prices were perfectly fair. I'm actually a little annoyed that I went this long without knowing The Eddy existed. Providence has so many cocktail bars that you can spend years here and still keep discovering places you've somehow walked past a hundred times. The Eddy is definitely going on the list of places we need to come back to, and we will 100% be back.

I tried four cocktails some from their new menu and some of their past drinks, they were all great. My favorite was the Passion Fruit Martini and the Strawberry , the Sumac Paloma was great. I came with one other person around 10:30pm on a weeknight. It was not crowded and we were sat near the back, next to the bathrooms-not ideal. Our waitress seemed a bit impatient and rude. She did not introduce herself so I don't know what her name was. We were caught up in conversation and our waitress was rushing us to order. We wanted to order dessert but we were informed that the kitchen was closed so we were unable to. We both ended up ordering Passionfruit Martinis and they were high-quality with great attention to detail. It's essentially a classic martini with passionfruit-flavored popping boba, served over a large ice cube. The drink was impressive and is the sole reason this review gets any stars. Usually I'm asked prior if we need separate receipts or if they're together, but my waitress failed to do that. The waitress came over with the receipt and I politely asked her to separate the check. She told me the drinks were the same price and to split it. We needed separate itemized receipts, I felt like I shouldn't have needed to justify why. I asked her again to do it and she actually split it for us. My friend and I were deep into conversation and another employee came over with an attitude and told us they were closing and my friend wasn't even able to finish her drink. She even made a comment on the rudeness of the employees and how it made the experience uncomfortable. Overall, I felt like the service left a bad impression on me. I'm not sure if I will return in the future. The drinks were pretty unique but the service was not pleasant.

I could have eaten three of them. We also had the crudo trio, oysters, smoked fish dip and lamb burger and everything was excellent. The lamb burger was rich and flavorful but perfectly balanced by the sweet jam, soft squishy sesame bun and thin, crispy, craggly onion rings. The smoked fish dip came with crisp nori chips that were a little intense on their own for me, but perfect with a big scoop of the creamy, smoky dip. Loved trying the three different crudos and every oyster was delicious. We sat at the bar with a great view of the whole place, great music and attentive service. Too full for dessert unfortunately because everything looked amazing. Still thinking about that scallop roll.

I came in a group of four and we all took sips of each other's drinks and that was really fun! Every drink was great, but I do favor my sake drink, white port/cream soda cocktail, the vermouth, and the one with the amaretto. Don't expect the menus to be the same as in this review! They do change it frequently and have non-alcoholic mocktails, too. We heard about this place from coworkers and that they had won an award for best new bar--an award that's well-deserved.

For a party of two on a Saturday night, our wait was around 40 minutes, and we were eventually seated by the bar. I will say that the seating arrangements could be thought out a little better because we had to play musical chairs quite a few times throughout the night. That aside, the drinks themselves were quite good! You can tell the bartenders are very skilled and passionate about crafting their cocktails.
