Best taste in music...these guys are so great. So guess what? That initial furnace visit, the one I blamed my hubby for, ended up being a much bigger deal. We called these guys back a second time because we were still experiencing a horrible smell and then the furnace shutting down. Igor, the guy who came out initially, told us we probably needed a new furnace. It turns out he was right! On our second visit, they sent a guy (sorry I don't recall his name), who has auto mechanic experience, spent 2 hours going through every part of our furnace. He was incredible and diagnosed all the issues with our furnace. In addition to finding remaining pieces of a plastic bag wrapped around our motor blower, our 22+ year old furnace also had a cracked heat exchanger. And, it was all so rusty. He basically shut us down and said to stop running the furnace immediately, that we were most likely breathing in some pretty bad air...OMG! After a few days of lots of floor heaters in our house to keep us warm, our insurance company, AHS, approved a new furnace for us. Three guys, including Igor, came out and set up shop in our basement for approximately 5 hours. They cranked some really great tunes, and were just the nicest bunch of hardworking furnace installers. Our insurance approved a Payne furnace. Though it's a lower end brand made by Carrier, it's working like a champ and the air quality in our home is night and day. These guys cleaned out some of our ducts during the process. Gotta say, I'm glad we didn't die in our sleep from our old decrepit furnace. Home Guard rocked it! read more

Very skeptical of a 4 and a half star review seems like a scam , I had a very bad experience , company showed up via my home warranty and promised to fix the issue with my AC not blowing air in 3 grands which is not a small sum by any means , money was paid , problem persisted even after it was fixed , they send other contractor who tells us there is no way AC can be fixed , i tell him that's none of my concern that's between home warranty and them , he then comes back in next day just to tell me your filter is bad , don't sey AC temperature to 65 degrees and bad excuses for not doing work . It was hilariously unprofessional to say in the least . I told him to stop making excuses and get it fixed he leaves my house in a dramatic way and banged my door as he left . I'm very skeptical of this company's 5 star reviews. I feel like they're running a scam based on my experience. I requested a furnace repair through American Home Shield, my home warranty company, last Thursday around 1pm. Home Guard was assigned. They were supposed to get back to me within 24hrs to schedule an appointment. I never heard from them Thursday or Friday, so I called on Saturday. I got a generic voicemail, not personalized with the company's name or any kind of greeting, so I wasn't sure I had called the right number, but I left a detailed voicemail anyway. I got a call back from the same number Monday morning around 8am but couldn't answer. They left a message asking if I still needed the repair. (Of course I do. Furnaces don't magically fix themselves.) I called them back at 11am, again leaving a detailed message. I never heard back Monday or yesterday. I looked at my account this morning (Wednesday) and saw they had closed the request saying they couldn't get a hold of me, yet I was still charged my $125 deductible. Given my experience over the last week I don't trust them to do the repair, so I called AHS and told them what was going on and that I was almost a week out without having the repair even scheduled, let alone completed. They assigned another company who will be here tomorrow. Either Home Guard is very busy and extremely poorly run, or they are scammers trying to take people's home warranty deductibles and not do the work. I've never dealt with such an unprofessional company. How do you not even set your voicemail to say the company name so customers know they have reached the right place?! read more

It's incredible how fast this company can issue an invoice within minutes of completing some work but cannot return phone calls or emails for weeks on end. So I think we all need to take a deep breath and remember that every review on here is a result of a home warranty service call. Home warranty services are notoriously difficult to work with and very cheap in their repairs. HG was average on everything they did work wise in my home. Where I think they could improve is with timeliness. They were 2:00 late for my appointment and what they were doing to my home was never really communicated. Had an issue with noise coming from motor of my furnace. Company was referred to me through my home warranty company. I called late in the afternoon and was first told that they didn't have any appointment for a week, but after checking with one of their techs, I was located conveniently on the way back to their facility and that they could fit me in. 30 minutes later Igor showed up at my door. Nice guy in an unsuspecting minivan. Showed him to the furnace to let him diagnose the issue. Let me stop for a second. I should preface this by saying I had another, more advertised company come take a look. Charged me $85 just for a visit. A tech came over, turned on the unit, commented on the age of it (about 17 years old), didn't touch a thing and when the noise started up, immediately said I needed a new motor cause the bearings were going bad. Part to be replaced: $800+. Then said, because of age that I should look into maybe replacing the whole furnace. Started with saying he'd recommend the $6000 model. Asked for something comparable to what I have, said $4000. I know I have an old furnace, but thing was well maintained. Said I'd think about it and sent him on his way. Back to Igor. He took the time to inspect all of the inners of the furnace, and physically removed the motor to inspect. Turns out there was just a loose part causing an imbalance creating the noise. After a $100 deductible, And about an hours time, Igor was on his way. Very nice, very professional and very detail oriented. I would recommend this company for your HVAC needs. read more

I highly recommend you stay far away from them, even if you are assigned to them from your home warranty company. My AC broke and because our brother-in-law is in the HVAC business, he was able to diagnosed the issue and we knew what we needed. Since we have a home warranty from AHS, we figured we would use them to replace our air compressor/refrigerant. We were assigned to Home Guard Heating and Air Conditioning. At first, we were happy to see that they had 4 stars-ratings but boy, did we learn fast that it was deceiving. They were supposed to contact us to make an appointment within 24 hours but we did not hear from them for more than 24 hours. I called them and no one answered their phone. I left a voicemail message but no one called back. I kept calling them daily and I finally got a hold of them after a couple of days but according to the receptionist, the tech has a full-time job somewhere else so he was only available during certain times. Anyway, accommodating to his schedule, we finally made an appointment for the tech to come out. He came out and we told him what happened. He agreed that we needed another compressor for our AC unit and he would submit the order. After weeks, we did not hear from them. I tried to call them but no answer. I couldn't leave any voicemail messages because their voicemail box was full. I emailed them but my emails were bounced back too. I had the home warranty company contact them with no luck. I even sent them a message on yelp. FINALLY, they replied to me via yelp, saying they were waiting for my home insurance warranty company to order the part and they would call me when it was available. Supposedly there was some backorder, they claimed. A month or so went by, and finally they said it came in. The day before they were supposed to come to my house, they called and said that the part company "lost" the part and had to reorder it. Weeks passed again and finally they called and said the part came in. On the day of the appointment the tech DID not show up. I waited ALL day for him. No call, no nothing. I called them and of course, there was no answer. I also sent them a yelp message. After a week, I was able to get a hold of someone at the office and she said she would get back to me about what happened. When she finally got back to me (a few days later), she said the tech didn't show up because it was 'hailing' (no sir, it rained lightly for 30 min or less). Still, that was very unprofessional for him not to call and let me wait all day. I had to reschedule this again but I later got a yelp message (and later, a phone call), saying that the part company ordered the wrong part. Seriously? At this point, it has already been 3 months since I contacted them. I talked to them early Aug and now it's November. I have been super patient with these people. I was told that I had a few options. One option was to call my home warranty insurance and ask them to change contractor OR the other option was for them to return the part and reorder it all over again. I decided to call our home warranty company and replace these people because I could not continue to play these games with them. It was already November and soon, it would be too cold to install anything. Our home warranty company replaced these guys with another company. They were the opposite of these guys. The new company called us the same day we talked to the home warranty company and came out to our house within a few days. They ordered AND replaced the part within 2 weeks. We should have done this earlier. Home Guard is very unprofessional and shouldn't be in business. I will report them to the BBB also. This company was assigned by American Home Shield home warranty. My AC broke on 88 degree humid summer temperature. I was worried about contractors sent by home warranties because they are not very reliable and seem unhappy about doing job for home warranties. I looked up Home Guard Heating and AC at yelp and they have 35% review with unhappy customers. I have to be honest I'm a little worried. So I called the office this morning and told them that I needed help for my AC and told them that my wife has asthma and needed it fixed asap. They put in the schedule right away. Igor and another guy arrived on time. They both wear mask and very professional. He assessed the AC and found the problem. He fixed it in less than an hour. Now I have my AC back running. Choice home warranty sent this company to repair my furnace. when the repair failed they sent another company who reported back that the sloppy and inferior repair done by home guard was the cause of the current failure of my furnace. as a result Choice Home warranty VOIDED my warranty and refused to pay for the cost of repairing home guards sloppy workmanship or any FUTURE failures of the furnace. my total out of pocket cost was $835. I have American Home Shield insurance and called for A/C service when cooling wasn't working right. I was dispatched a technician from Home Guard. The first visit had some success related to one part of the A/C issue: a bad motor starter capacitor on the blower fan. The technician quickly and correctly identified that issue. But for some reason, he was somewhat reluctant and probably under trained to diagnose the second issue related to excessive pressure. He seemingly was looking to close out the service ticket and discounted the severity of the problem. I pressed for further diagnosis, and to his credit, he agreed to it. On the 2nd visit, Eugene was the assigned technician and he was thorough and competent. Eugene found the source of the excessive pressure--a coil that had blockage. A replacement coil and dryer/filter was ordered. The 3rd visit was led by a technician named Igor along with an understudy to help him out. Igor, like Eugene, was also very competent and organized. I watched him manufacture and assemble an extension to the coil box (since the new coil was about 6" longer), perform the welding on the R22 lines, and to recharge and test the pressures. TIP: use email to communicate with the office to find out status if parts orders and scheduling. I almost never had a phone call returned, but email responsiveness was much better. read more
