DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! Updating my review after things just got worse. These guys are scammers, they will overcharge for their diagnostic visit and they will tell you that your furnace needs costly repairs when it does not. I recently called them to look at my furnace because it was not kicking on. The tech walked in and said immediately, "I know by the sound what the problem is". He took off the cover of the furnace, checked it out and told me that my inducer motor was broken and that I needed a new one. He wrote up my "diagnostic" charges, totaling $137.00 and tried to get me to schedule the motor replacement for the next day, at a charge of $675. He was at my house a total of 10 minutes. After he left, I looked at my receipt and saw that I was charged a $90 diagnostic fee for the first 15 minutes, $35 for an additional 15 minutes of labor, and $10 for parking. Again, he was only here for 10 minutes. That was all bad enough and a total scam, but whatever, not a huge dollar amount. I did some research and decided to get a second opinion on the inducer motor. I hired Siberia Appliance Repair (I would highly recommend), and Val came out to look at my furnace. I learned that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my furnace and NOTHING wrong with my inducer motor. It simply needed to be manually spun ONCE after sitting all summer. After speaking with the owner, Ziggy Lebherz, I decided on Perfect Temperature Control of DesPlaines. Vince, our tech, could not have been nicer. He called ahead and arrived earlier than expected. He explained everything he was doing and what parts should be replaced. He worked efficiently, was a friendly guy and knew what he was doing. Be careful.... They installed two furnaces and one is still leaking. Had to contact a lawyer to help me but Perfect Temp does not respond. So working with the BBB and a lawyer to fix the problem. Has been less than a year and they don't honor the workmanship. Once again be careful. We are in the process of also dealing with Carrier the manufacturing company of the unit to fix the problem with another authorized Carrier Dealer because Perfect Temp does not respond. Paid good money and was taken... Would not recommend anyone using this company. It's all about principal now.... I'll pay another company to fix the problem.. read more

It's about time I write them a review. No more stalling. So I started using this company sometime early into 2013. Found them by searching the web and at the time the only review was from Tim T. giving them a one star and a slew of reviews "not recommended by Yelp" with all different ratings. But through reading all the reviews and per their website I decided to drop the hammer and make a call. I think in some cases, you can trust those "not recommended" reviews. Depending, of course. (Unbeknownst to me at the time, some time later that same week I had a conversation with a property manager about HVAC services and they referred me to this business) For heating and cooling or HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) services this is a company that needs to be bookmarked. I've always found working with their technicians and management to be worry free. The business is sound and their expertise great. I've never yet had an experience with them that I would deem as negative or unwilling to help. During normal business hours it's easy to reach management and during off peak hours, they run an answering service in the event you need emergency care. What I love is that almost every time, if there's a need for service it's handled in one phone call. All of their technicians try their best to complete a service call in one visit and as quickly as possible. This doesn't mean that they rush, it merely means that as a business they get a lot of it and have scheduled engagements throughout the day. On different occasions I've had the unfortunate circumstance of having to replace control units, piping, wiring, venting and more. I love that from the moment of entry, their service people are in ready mode. They assess the job, call in and report to their office, estimate the work and based on your reply, will get started immediately. In most cases their technicians can give a time of when to expect the work completed. Their time is valuable and costly. I forget the hourly rates. There is a standard charge for the service call and then for every quarter hour of work beyond that has a separate charge. If you have a bigger job that's needed, estimates are free and the surveyor can & will advise on the spot or via a write-up emailed to you at a later date. I always say it's good to call around and get estimates before confirming with one business. But there's something to be said about a business that can complete the job in one go. Joe Shmoe HVAC may be willing to charge you less but Joe may not be able to complete the job in one visit or be willing to admit when he can't complete a job. For those that are property owners or managers. Perfect Temp has service contracts and does yearly maintenance. The cost of the yearly maintenance to ready for winter is recommended. The cost is negligible when you think about the safety and work performed. They'll come out, estimate and then if needed start the work. I.e. cleaning out venting, washing out the system - removing dust and grime, running the system and checking for errors. When managing a building for business or residential, it's prudent to have the yearly service maintenance performed. It'll save you some headache down the line. Think of it as an oil change for your building. read more

Update: From 4 to 5 stars. Their customer service is what does it. They did my installs on a new AC, humidifier, and mini-splits and the temperature and humidity in the house is stable. They worked hard to get everything in this old Victorian cottage to work comfortably in the 21st century. Excellent! I am a fan of Perfect Temperature Control and will use their services for my HVAC maintenance. Here's why: I recently bought a remodel single family 3-floor Victorian workers cottage; if you've been to Chicago, you know the 1.5 story houses around the Bungalow Belt. I knew from the inspection that I needed a new AC unit, and on even mild spring days we were dying upstairs. But what I learned from my service technician at another company that the furnace was oversized for the house (explains the $800 gas bill from the mild winter) and not enough air intakes (which were also the wrong size). I got estimates from three different places that I trusted and used before, and the estimates to fix the HVAC problems were between 25K (low end) and 50K high end. Yikes! Not what I wanted to hear after going in a bidding war to get this house... But daddy needs to be cool in the summer or he's a grumpy fella! Perfect Temperature Control was recommended by my neighbor. They made an appointment the next day, and Sergio came out to inspect the units. His first stated goal was "to use the available ducts and space to maximize airflow and minimize cost." Awesome! Having come up with similar solutions in other bungalows, Sergio offered references of others who were able to use the Carrier products and get it comfortably cool upstairs without freezing the basement, or needing to install "mini-splits" upstairs. The "Infinity Series" that he recommended as the top of the line also came with a dehumidifier to help reduce electric costs, and its thermostat could be managed by Wifi and an iOs app (I assume there's an Android app). It honestly works better than the Nest since its humidity sensor is very accurate (don't ask me how I know this, but I have four humidity sensors in the house) and, rather than just cooling to a temperature, the Infinity series will dehumidify so that you "feel cooler" at higher temperatures because of lower humidity. This is perfect for the upstairs bungalow! Sergio was confident that we would be fine in the house with the system that he provided. And the costs were ranged from 10K (mid-range product) to 12K (top range product), which included the rebates. To provide a review (because, let's face it, businesses need yelp reviews to make their business!), they offered the humidity control, too. But I'm an honest and ethical reviewer here, so do consider that. In short, his proposal was well-thought out and succeeded in making the upstairs comfortable in hot summer nights. Sergio was quick to schedule the work. We'll see how the heat goes in winter, though. Good warranty product, too, on both products. There was a small snafu where they needed the whole second day to complete the project (and with no AC during the heat wave, I was pretty understanding but noticeably hot!), but all-in-all, this was pretty uneventful and direct project. I really appreciated the level of professionalism and communication in the process. I empathize with other reviewers who had bad experiences (as I have with other companies), but it's not my experience with Perfect Temperature Control. They really did their work well, and Sergio really exceeded my expectations with his time, thoughtfulness to the project, and cost-saving interests knowing that a new homeowner often doesn't have tons of money to throw at a problem. The fact that they're familiar with how Chicago bungalows work, and how renovators and rehabbers sometimes cut corners with the HVAC systems really helped us in the end. read more

I've used Perfect Temp Control a few times for a single family home and have been very satisfied with the results. They're always on time and the employees are great, they've helped explain exactly what's going on each time in understandable terms, which I appreciate being able to learn more about how our HVAC system works. They've also done a good job of recommending long term repairs that aren't necessary in the near future , which makes me feel like I can trust they're not pushing any unnecessary expenses. I have no idea what he's talking about. I had the complete opposite happen. Instead of just giving me the bad news of the compressor is blown they kept trying to fix a fuse that was clearly over loaded and kept blowing out. So bad in fact my entire house electricity fuse box blew up. So they came back with a big $ including the other house visits that was almost double than a new vendor coming in and saying they should have never tried to fix it just replace everything. My house has been serviced by Perfect Temperature Control since they first replaced our furnace and A/C in 1990. Replaced the furnace again with them last year. Just had them out to do annual check on the furnace. My service tech (as usual) was very polite and efficient. Only issue I have is regarding an old Aprilaire humidifier that was still attached to the ductwork from when we had our first furnace installed with them back in 1990. I haven't used the humidifier in years as after however many years it began leaking and I would end up with water all over the floor. Well my service tech told me that it was still working and asked me if I wanted him to service it. My first instinct was to say no due to the leaking (which I told him about) but he seemed insistent it was working. So for $ 49.95 he cleaned it all out and replaced the pad. At first I honestly thought maybe doing all that would solve the leaking problem but when I went downstairs later that night there was leakage. I know it was from the humidifier as I ran my hand along the bottom seam of the plastic casing and it was all wet. Fortunately, I had put a towel on the floor (just in case) which was also wet. So I ended up turning off the humidifier (again) and kicking myself for wasting $ 50.00...should've gone with my first instinct. read more

After getting an outrageous quote from Four Seasons for a new A/C unit, we called Perfect Temperature (referred by my dad who has used them for years). Their price was very reasonable and service was excellent. They don't use sales tactics or manipulate you into choosing them...just an honest and trustworthy company. Sergio was such a huge help and very thorough in explaining our options. We ended up purchasing a new A/C unit with them and are very happy!! My family has been a long time customer of Perfect Temperature Control (me and my parents). They have installed and maintained new air conditioning units and furnaces in both of our homes. Recently we had an issue with the air conditioner which had been ongoing and they went back over our repair records and realized it should have been taken care of differently so they made it right. I had a similar, negative experience(s) with these guys. I originally had them over to fix a pool heater that wouldn't start. Long story short, after 2 different guys and around $400, they told me my piping to the pool heater was too small. They did offer an alternative way to fix it though - by increasing the pressure at my gas meter. So, I called Nicor to get the pressure increased, and had PTC come out to determine if I'd need regulators for my appliances. The guy who showed up had no idea what he was doing, it cost me 3 times as much money for the visit than what was quoted, and ultimately he told me that I DID NOT need regulators. So, Nicor installed the 2 lb. regulator and all of my appliances stopped working. Guess what, I needed regulators! When PTC came back out to verify, they actually had the nerve to try to charge me again for the visit. I'm now in a situation where I've been without hot water or heat for 4 days and I actually need Nicor to revert my regulator back to the original 1/2 lb. All-in, I've spent about $3000 trying to get a pool heater to work, all based on their extremely bad advice. Do yourself a favor and NEVER call these guys. read more
