My request for an estimate was immediately answered and within a couple days Joe from BESCO Air was at the house to take a look. Once Joe spent about 45 minutes inspecting the 24 year old horizontal install, he had drawn a picture of what I had for his analysis. He described the issues and how to resolve them verbally before sitting down and drafting an estimate with 3 options for us to review. BESCO technicians Julio and Gio arrived with Joe 2 weeks later to get started. They reviewed the scope of work to demo and install this second floor attic project There was a lot of work to do and the install took the entire day. Julio and Gio stayed until everything was perfect. I have a Trane S9V2 60,000 BTU High Efficiency Furnace that replaced an oversized BTU furnace that would overheat in the winter and stop working. We should have been shown a pressure reading performed with a refrigerant gauge before being told we needed to replenish 9 pounds of coolant (est. $2500) or replace our AC unit entirely. There was no evidence provided, to suggest that our unit was leaking refrigerant. The tech sat in front of our house for 20 minutes before ringing our doorbell. I felt there was a lack of transparency. The goal was clearly to sell us a new unit rather than repair it. This isn't the same company from years prior. read more

I highly recommend Besco Air. I purchased a new Trane furnace and central air system from Besco one year ago. I have waited a year to write this review and am convinced they have excellent customer service. I am a licensed Stationary Engineer (boiler operator) in Chicago and have worked in building maintenance and HVAC for over thirty years. Our family moved into our home six years ago. At that time we found the furnace and central air system was 35 years old. Replacing it was the first improvement I wanted to make. I requested bids from three different companies, including Besco. I asked a colleague who is a licensed pipe fitter and experienced estimator to review these proposals with me. Although Besco's bid was not the lowest, we agreed it was the clearest and that the equipment and material specified was of the highest quality. Being experienced in the field I found it refreshing that Besco didn't try to 'up sell' us. They provided what our family needed. I believe paying for quality equipment and service from a reputable firm like Besco Air will serve our family well for many years to come. Our basement heat stopped working. We were getting heat to the upstair apartments but not the basement. This occurred several times before. The last time was over 20 years ago. It is usually the pump that goes out. Well we called Besco to come out and look at it. A man named Ed came over and said he would contact someone a the company that could figure it out. He took photos. He told us he would contact us in a few days. That was over a year ago. They never got back to us. OK...A few days ago I called them for just another maintenence....their guy did not even hook up the meters, spent all time telling me to call their office and order a new a/c. I said: No! NO!!! We had good experience with Besco. We had two furnaces and two air conditioning units installed by them for our 115 years old house. We had few other quotes but Besco pricing was the most reasonable. Our sales rep Mike was very responsive with all the questions we asked in a timely manner. We also needed to get a trim removed in order to put the new furnace into our attic and Mike was able to get us a handyman to do the work who was able to work around the scheduling. Installing two furnace and air conditioning units took one full day. There were 2 crews (4 techs total). All four techs were nice and answered all questions we had. They showed up around 730am and worked til 6pm. No complaints and the systems are working fine. We love their warranty on product and labor. Not many companies offer this great warranty. The one thing to note is we had a very minor gas leak from one of the joints in one of the furnace the next day. We called Besco and they sent someone the same day to address the issue. I'm turned off by the hard sell for membership for service. I have a sing"3 stage furnace. I have an 800 square foot apartment. You're trying to sell me a monthly membership or annual membership that would be the same as a full house or business or building. You're suggesting there are penalties for not having a membership even though you installed my furnace only 4 years ago. I do NOT like this sales tactic. Very nice people to work with. However, we had our first technician out to fix the leak on our condenser pipe and he used the incorrect silicon as a "patch" for our problem. The leak persisted at which we had a second technician out to make an attempt at it. He too was unsuccessful. Because I was selling our unit and didn't care to buy a new AC, I had explained that from the beginning and I wish they had told me that the issue would be unrepairable and that I'd have to buy a whole new unit. I spent $290 to have them fix nothing and ended up giving our buyer a credit to replace it anyways. What a waste. I just wish they were transparent from the beginning so I would have saved $290 and they would have saved two technician trips to my house. read more

We had a Mitsubishi mini-split heat pump system with 6 heads installed in our 1887 brick house we're rehabbing. This was a complicated job for lots of reasons related to the age of the house. From the first detailed visit by Bob the sales rep, to the measuring and installation, to the warranty work, Besco was impeccably professional. There were problems with the equipment and installation that Besco quickly took responsibility for and resolved without cost or complaint. The fact that there were some issues demonstrates to me better than if this had been problem-free just how good a company Besco is. They had absolute integrity and went above-and-beyond to make sure I was satisfied. The system works great with zero complaints two years after the install. Unequivocally recommend. I purchased a high efficiency HVAC system from Besco over three years ago for my 2 story cape cod in Edison Park. I felt compelled to write this review at this time because only because I have gradually learned of the things that were done improperly from other furnace maintenance companies thru the years. As Besco prices are higher than most, I reasoned I was paying more for their high end products and expert installation. But beware - they will cut corners and short change you wherever they can. When Ed Pfieffer first gave me the estimate, he included, in writing, to relocate my furnace air return to the front of the unit, instead of the rear where it was bizarrely located. A welcome observation as I was oblivious as to the implications of this. Unfortunately, after the new Trane furnace was installed, the air return remained where it was originally. Second, I purchased a two stage furnace along with a two stage thermostat, but the old thermostat was only wired for a single stage furnace. Two stage furnaces work best when they have the one extra wire. To rewire my thermostat so this expensive furnace could work at its most efficient level, would have only required pulling 10 feet of wire vertically from the basement directly up to the 1st floor thru the existing holes - maybe 15 minutes of work. But this was not done. So my investment in this technologically advanced furnace could not use its energy efficient air recirculation technology to its fullest. Instead, the installers simply rigged my furnace to cycle the blowers for 15 minutes once the thermostat reached the triggering temperature. Lastly, my basement furnace was only 1 of 2 HVAC systems in my house. It should have sufficient ability to heat both the basement and the first floor. It took another home estimate from another company to point out my basement had only 1 vent blowing air from about 10 feet from a furnace intake - hardly enough distance to stir the cold air from the corners of the open basement. A simple fix of sealing that vent off and creating one or two new ones further down the exposed duct-work would have been enough to create sufficient warm air circulation. Certainly a professional HVAC company as big as Besco installer would have caught this. But alas, no. So I'm stuck with a cold basement and half-assed two stage furnace that's cheating me of its advanced technology. My advise, skip Besco and go with a smaller local installer. read more

I had 5 companies quote me a replacement AC unit with some duct work for return air. Besco came through with the best price. Ed Pfeifer the sales rep. was great to work with, explained the work in detail and answered all my questions. The labor and parts warranty were also better then the others quoted. The morning of the install Cesar and Manny were here 7 AM sharp and promptly went to work. The guys were very professional did a great job and left everything spotless when done. Unfortunately a local company earned a 1-star rating. I called them on the hottest weekend of early June. Their technician, Cheech, arrived promptly, was very personable but assessed the situation incorrectly. He said that the blower motor could not be replaced on this furnace without great effort and expense, due to this furnace being too close to the 1st floor furnace. It made sense to me at that time, and the charge was $200 for this information. Due to the extreme heat that weekend, I bought and installed window a/c units in each of the bedrooms in the 2nd floor apartment, which cost $600+ and a number of hours for installation. But a couple of weeks later, I called a different company (a 1-man shop) and he came over and changed the blower motor on this furnace without issue! So I called Besco's sales guy to explain the situation and complain that I paid them $200 for an incorrect assessment and $600 to provide window a/c to my tenants, when I really didn't need to. He said he would talk to the owner and get back to me that following week after the 4th of July. It's been a month, an no return calls from Besco. They were very quick to charge the Sunday service fee but they gave me wrong information and caused me additional expense and time. We just bought our house and the condenser was stuck between the house and a fence with barely an inch to breathe. There was more than 10 degrees difference between downstairs and upstairs. The Besco team came out and gave us multiple options to move it and replace for more efficiency. The next week(!!) they came and replaced and moved all in a day. Joe went above and beyond to analyze and suggest ductwork routing errors and sensor/control issues that have plagued our house for 20 years. Our AC unit broke down after a series of service calls over the years and we decided to get a combination furnace and AC unit for efficiency. So we decided to get a Trane system (Don't mess with Texas) because of the positive online consumer feedback. We called three authorized dealers for quotes and Besco was in the mddle of the pack, however, we decided to go with them because of the exceptional customer service. During the consultation we felt good about Joe, it was a feeling of integrity and subject matter expertise that he displayed. A big plus with the system is that the Nexia thermostat is internet connected and it's very nice in that you can control it by Iphone or laptop. The thermostat can even control your smart home (if you have one, we certainly don't). After the installation, when we had questions, (even during the holidays) Joe still responded to our emails within an hour or so.....now who can beat that? We waited for a year pass to write this review to make sure that our system was done right and we are very happy with it! Hopefully Besco will not disappoint us in the years to come. Heck, hopefully we don't have to do this again until 2030. read more

We've been loyal customers of Besco for 7 years. We've now spent 4 months trying to fix our heated floors. Not only did we receive the attached message with many expletives on an invoice from a Besco employee (what a gift for paying $800 to a company and receiving that in retune), but after finally getting the new pump installed for our floor heat earlier this week it stopped working after 1 day this week. At a loss of how to proceed, we had previously had excellent experiences with the companybut this has been exceedingly challenging and offensive. I've never paid thousands of dollars to be told to "eat one" and "blow me" and still not have resolution on our heating issue. Would very much appreciate management resolving our issue. read more

This is my second time to use HVAC service provided by Besco. Based on very satisfactory experience couple months ago for not related issue, I didn't hesitate this time to call them. The phone call was answered by live person and we were able to set appointment the same day. Our furnace upon return home from the short trip, we lowered temperature to 64F, was able to heat only to 67F when burners stopped to work and furnace was just running on idle and fan on auto. Sergio, maintenance person, called 15 min before and was on time at our door. He was a professional in his approach and work. Sergio was trying to explain his work process and steps in effort to diagnose and fix the problem. The heat was restored and problem was fixed in reasonable time and price was right. I believe that Besco deserve to be recognized and refereed to anybody looking for quality HVAC contractor. read more

ONE HOUR OR LESS. My review is not based on any work done, but on what has become common practice for many businesses. Their time is valuable and billable yours is not. When making appointment, explained the work requested. Non emergency during heating season, no problem with 2 week wait. Took the time and rearranged schedule expecting problem to be solved. Technician arrives, verifies work as originally requested, gives quote based on hours needed. While deciding whether to have work done, I was informed that they allotted him only one hour for the call and I would need to call for another appointment to actually have any work done. SO UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY, OR THEY CAN FIX IN THE ALLOTED ONE HOUR, IF YOU WORK BE PREPARED TO TAKE TIME OFF TWICE. read more

Had my complete HVAC system overhauled in October of 2008. Besco sold me a 95% EFU Furnace XV95 and a 3 Ton compressor XR14 which has lowered my heating and cooling cost to 1/3 of what I had previously. Have enjoyed wonderful operation and savings over almost 10 years. So this season everything was working just fine until the outdoor compressor ceased to run. Both compressor and fan were not moving or providing cooling throughout the house. So I called Besco since they installed the Trane system 10 yrs ago. Besco came out the same day and I met the service tech Rob at the front of my home. I went through the issue and Rob could not have been more thorough. Rob also explained what he was going to do and the steps he was following in his troubleshooting. So after determining that the Thermostat was good and the furnace and blower motor were providing ample air, we began to look outside at the outdoor compressor unit. Rob did an inspection and removed the service panels. What was found that Mice...yep Mice had chewed their little hearts out on the wiring that allows the compressor and fan to run. Rob showed me the chewed up wire and he had to open the compressor rear panel to find where the other end of the chewed wire was located. Rob found the other end and used a wire nut to reconnect the two severed ends. Once he repaired the wire and Walllah the Compressor started right up. I was happy, as a clam that there was not a major failure, but just a reconnection of the chewed wire. Rob also checked the performance of the compressor and it had not leaked any of the original freon and we were back in business. I was charged a nominal and honest amount for the repair and my faith in Besco Air was restored. I would rate them as a knowledgeable service team and an honest company. IMO Besco Air is the best and provided excellent service. read more

Used Besco for my hot water heater. The communication was quick, efficient and they were available at short notice for an extra cost. They use a text message system which confirms appointments and allows you to know what technician is coming to your house. Safety was at the front of their mind. Would recommend. read more

I sent my design plans over a week ago at which point they told me they wouldn't be able to review and get back to me until the following week. No problem i waited to then get a call that they do not do new installs unless high-end and was told they usually quote double. Pretty annoying to hear from a business owner then why advertise on Yelp if you not able to take on jobs from your local customers. read more

My AC compressor blew out on a very hot Sunday. We called Besco for help; and they were able to come out in a couple hours to investigate. Turned out the compressor was blown. We have young kids and wanted the functioning ASAP. Besco was able to do a temporary repair immediately, and went above and beyond to squeeze in a replacement install on a busy Monday. read more

We sought out 3 quotes when deciding on whom to give the job to as it was a huge expense for us. We had the furnace, the AC, and the hot water heater all replaced as the house we bought had 25+ years on all of the components. We also purchased a new air humidifier/filter. Besco was by far the most responsive, professional, timely, and knowledgeable. And their customer service is beyond reproach. We went with them for the job after Joe came over and thoroughly explained each component, it's efficiency, how it works, etc. Joe was wonderful and spent as much time as we needed. Great customer service! We went with a Trane 97% efficiency furnace and 13 SEER Trane AC, and a Goodman hot water heater. There was a tiny snafu when the installers turned the water back on abruptly rather than the required slowly while running a steady sink stream in the basement after shutting off the main water valve. We had a new hot water heater installed hence them needing to cut the main water for install. We had a water hammer incident, but Besco paid for the plumber (of our choice) to come out and fix the faucets that were affected. They took responsibility and made it right with no questions asked and remedied it immediately. All is well that ends well and just some sediment that needed to be removed from the faucets. Aside from that, the work done was high quality by guys that seemed like savants, and we highly recommend the company for their superior customer service. Oh, also, the AC unit they installed had a louder than usual humming and they brought in a new unit and replaced it without issue. In fact, they were the ones that noted that it sounded too loud. Sometimes the fan blades are off during manufacturing and it happens. The whole job was just over $9K. We waited to post this to see how much we would save on utilities. The old stuff was so inefficient. Our ComEd bill ended up being about $100 dollars less each month during the Summer and the gas bill is almost half what the previous owners paid per month. Lastly, Besco's administrative staff fills out all the rebate paperwork that ComEd and people's gas requires to send a rebate. We received the rebates about 6 weeks after the install. While the two other quotes were less than Besco, the equipment they were pushing was also of lesser quality. Each HVAC place pushes their favorite euipment. We researched Trane and are very pleased with the quality of the euipment and the energy efficiency. You can barely hear the furnace while standing next to it. read more

I have been dealing with a troublesome boiler during a very cold winter, and this company has been very good to deal with. My boiler needed a new transformer, and the repair was fairly expensive. Initially I was disappointed because the boiler continued to cause problems, but Besco was great about coming out and making further adjustments and repairs until the job was finished correctly. This is not an inexpensive company, but their service is very good and they stand behind their work. Happy to refer them to other people. read more
