Gorgeous company van!

Preferred Comfort Heating and Cooling is all you need for your home's HVAC needs. Back in early 2021 my wife and I bought a house for our family that had no central air. We got multiple quotes (like... 12. lol) for completely new install of ductwork, furnace, and A/C. Vini was BY FAR the best at customer service, client communication, laying everything out straight with regards to work and timeline, and he was reasonable with pricing. The work was completed on time, professionally, and he and his team (love you Dom and Pete!) communicated with us all along the way. Preferred Comfort has been back multiple times since to service our home and we have been completely happy with everything! Thank you, Vini, for being you and helping with everything! We appreciate it! 10/10. A+. All the thumbs and big toes up. Highly recommend you use Vini and his team for all your HVAC needs!

ductwork from the basement to the 2nd floor through the pantry

Warning: essay ahead! First of all, if you live on the South Side like me, you know how hard it can be to find trades that are willing to do work here. Secondly, it's especially difficult to find HVAC specialists that will deal with radiators. My husband and I live in an old home (100+ years of age) and have been living with cast iron radiators and window AC units the last few years. We had been contemplating installing central air for a while and decided to reach out to Preferred Comfort Heating and Cooling. Vini is the owner and came to do the full walkthrough with us for an estimate. Vini spent about an hour talking to us, whereas most other HVAC companies only spent about 15 minutes (make sure you shop around for estimates). He made recommendations to plan ductwork throughout the house and for the best AC condenser and furnace for our home's size. We originally thought about having the ducts go from the basement to the unfinished 2nd floor through a rarely used closet in our bedroom. Vini recommended that we do it through the kitchen pantry instead because it could get a bit noisy and possibly disturb our sleep with the ducts in the closet. I'm really glad we went with his suggestion because the ducts definitely needed more room than the closet could provide. Our project took about 2 weeks to complete (10 business days). Demo was completed over 2.5 days with the first day being the hardest - radiator removal. It was pretty loud having to cut out all the cast iron pipes, but it was incredible to see how much floor space we gained. I was a little sad to get rid of the radiators since they're an efficient heating system and it's great for my sinuses during the winter. They spent about 1.5 days mapping out and cutting the holes for the vents to go into the floor. We were very insistent about going this route when we were discussing this with HVAC specialists and not running the ducts along the ceiling in soffits (for aesthetic reasons and also it just feels more efficient for the heat/air). Side note - it's important to pick a company that acknowledges what the customers want because we met a few places that did not want to do this kind of work. The rest of the project was spent fabricating the ducts without compromising too much headroom in the basement. Our main install team was Dominic and Pete. They were super friendly and patient while I asked a million questions about putting a vent here or there or what if we moved this or that. I was very impressed with how precise Pete was in planning the ducts and fitting them perfectly between the floor joists. He's definitely got a lot of experience with this. They always called us ahead of time to let us know they were on the way in the morning and gave us a progress update everyday before they left. They were so professional and gave us a lot of advice as first-time homeowners living in an old house. They clearly take a lot of pride in their work and don't believe in taking shortcuts just to finish a job quickly. While it was a bit stressful to live during a construction project, we were really pleased with the work performed and thankful we could get AC before the temps hit 100!! We went with a 16 seer AC condenser and it is seriously soooo quiet compared to our ancient window units. Looking forward to the winter and testing how our furnace and humidifier work out. FYI - The project was completed on time and within budget. They will come back to finish the ductwork for the 2nd floor after we can hire a general contractor to do the other work.

When we first reached out, we were actually just considering getting our wall heater replaced, as it had a gas leak. Jeffrey came out to check out the system and gave us a quote the same day - he didn't push any additional services on us and the pricing and timeline was super reasonable. After some discussion, we decided it might be a better use of our time and money to just have a whole system installed, since it was something we were planning for the future anyway. Jeffrey came back out to create a plan and give us an updated quote, along with suggestions of what was/wasn't possible with our home structure. He and his team began their work within a few days of our quote - they spent about 2.5 weeks overall in the home and were incredibly efficient, respectful, and communicative throughout the whole process. There were a few unexpected surprises while cutting through the walls/ceilings that I could tell were frustrating, as it set them back and forced them to reroute, but they never complained and they just kept working through the issues. When they were finished, Jeffrey came back out to thoroughly check over the work that had been done and had his guys come out one last time to fix any tiny issues they had missed. Since the installation, he has continued to quickly respond to any questions we've had and will also come back in the Spring to properly turn on the air conditioning unit (the system was installed in the dead of winter). We really couldn't be happier with our system and are so happy we have an evenly heated home and no more window AC units!!

They said they could try to do a repair for about $1.3k but that they couldn't guarantee the repair would be effective because of the condenser. They then tried to sell me on their highest end heat-pump for about $24k, which was too much for our needs, since our furnace was also functional. We ended up choosing a basic AC replacement for around $9k. They were able to install the new unit two days later. However, on the day of the install, they saw some surface level rust on the furnace heat exchanger and tried to get me to replace it for an additional $4k. When I said no, they backed off and recommended a CO alarm (which we already have). It felt like I was being heavily taken advantage of because I was in a dire situation. The installation went fine, but my experience of being pressured and hard sold to during the process made it feel like I was being milked for every penny they could get out of me. Take this as a precaution to check your HVAC AC/furnace/heat pump regularly, and get multiple quotes before deciding on work. If you go with this company, they will seemingly do an effective job, but they will try their best to get as much money out of you as possible.

Straight forward I need a service an appointment is set for an assessment and a quote. I was sent a text at 9:20am not a phone call saying my tech is on the way. I've received 2 other quotes so may be I've been spoiled by phone calls. My appointment was between 10am and 11am and I wait until 11:30am. I called the number from the technician and say I had an appointment between 10am and 11am and before I could even finish the dispatcher says the technician tried to reach you and I have too. I have no missed calls, no left messages, not even a text which is the original form of communication used. I requested the service through Yelp. I wasn't angry I honestly called to see what happened. May be my business is not needed. No problem. To update I did receive a followup call to try to rectify the situation which I can appreciate.

We hired this company to install a radiant floor heating system and asked that it be integrated with Ecobee thermostats so one thermostat could control both the radiant heat and the air conditioning. Unfortunately, they were unable to make that work. After spending considerable time trying, we ultimately agreed to a compromise of using separate thermostats for the radiant heat and the AC. Although this wasn't the solution we originally wanted, we accepted it and paid the invoice in full. Initially, Jordan gave us the impression that he was knowledgeable, trustworthy, and would stand behind the company's work. I genuinely thought we had found an HVAC company we could rely on for years to come. Because the installation was completed outside of the cooling season, we couldn't fully test the air conditioning until the weather became warm enough to use it. When we finally turned on the AC, neither unit worked properly. Jordan came out and discovered that one Ecobee thermostat had been miswired. He corrected the wiring, and that unit began working. However, he could not determine why the second unit was not working. Before leaving, he told us he would return within a day or two to continue troubleshooting. It has now been more than a week. We have called the company's call center multiple times, and every time we are told our message will be forwarded and someone will call us back. Despite our repeated attempts, we have never received a callback or been able to schedule the promised follow-up visit. We even asked to speak with a manager or another owner, but were told that information could not be provided. What disappoints me most is not that there were installation issues--those can happen on any project. It's what happened afterward. Once the final payment was made, it became nearly impossible to get anyone to respond or honor the follow-up that was promised. A warranty only has value if a company responds when customers need service. I truly wanted this company to be our long-term HVAC contractor. Instead, based on my experience, I was left with an unresolved HVAC issue, repeated unanswered service requests, and the feeling that the level of customer support changed after payment was received. I hope they improve their communication and follow-through, but based on my experience, I cannot recommend them.
