It had the feel of a good Salvation Army to me with the higher quality of used furniture... unfortunately, the prices were about 7 -10x higher than what I would ever expect to pay for some of this stuff. A wicker outdoor furniture set for instance $1999... which... let me tell you... if a wicker outdoor furniture set that might be used is that expensive, there had better be flat screen tv's and dolby surround sound embedded in it... give me a break. They even had a small used organ... exactly like one I have seen at a Salvation Army for $49 for $799... who's buying that?!?!?! No one. You need furniture, but you're lazy and hate shopping. Every time you move, you get rid of everything so you don't feel like a hoarder. So what do you do? Check out a store that is wall to wall filled with all sorts of unique pieces of furniture. There were so many unique pieces I wanted: cool vintage trunks, chaise lounges I could see myself reading in or giving out free advice to friends in. I have been here a few times in the past when I wasn't looking for me, but I didn't know until recently that they will haggle on price with you. I found some living room furniture that turned out to be brand new overstock from Macy's. The salespeople were helpful and friendly, and I purchased items knowing that I had 7 days to pick up my furniture. Workers will load your items for you when you come to pick up. Want to sell your stuff? They will make repairs to your stuff and give you % of the sales. read more

I was considering replacing dining chairs. I sent an email with pics. A nice woman called, said we could set up an at home view where I would get an offer on the spot. I said, since you're coming, look at the table too. I scheduled appo. A different person said on her way. She arrived within 2 hr time window. Now, here's the reason for 1: She came to door, said her name, and immediately wanted me to look up how to get to her next appo. "It was in Lakeway, and she didn't have a car GPS (although she had smartphone). I said sure, go in dining room and I'll get ipad. I returned and tried to talk about my stuff, but she was focused only on next appo. How to get there. Coyld i print her directions? Could i tell her how to get there? After she knew how to get to her NEXT appo, she looked at furniture. I said I had just scratched table, after appo . She said, in snottytone, "you've been in our store? You know THE TYPE of things we carry. I'll email tomorrow and ran out. Presumably, the Lakeway appo was way more important than me. I did receive email saying since table was scratched they were not interested. Nothing about just chairs. I responded and asked about chairs, FOUR days ago with no response. Apparently I was not rich enough. Ugh. Snotty people who think their time is more important than mine do not get my business. Oh, by the way, I get bored easily and buy TONS of furniture. I was lied to. I was not told about a $250 moving fee, because if I was I would have gladly brought my furniture not even a half a mile from my apartment to the store (I live in the Domain). Seriously, who would not tell someone about a moving fee? I was told over the phone that if I sent them pictures of my furniture and that there was enough stuff to their liking, then they would send complimentary movers over to get the furniture. When I received my first check I saw a $250 moving fee deduction on it. When I called to ask about it is when they told me the movers costed $75 an hour. When the movers were getting my stuff I was wondering why they were taking their time loading everything up, but I thought to myself "at least I'm not being charged for this", so it didn't bother me that they were moving at a very slow pace. Now I realized that they were exploiting me since I just found out that I am actually the one paying them. Their payment system is severely outdated as well. If you have a life, then you will not appreciate their payment system. When someone purchases one of your pieces they will then notify their "corporate office" in California, which can take 30 days, and then they send you out a check that will most likely take another 30 days. I STILL have not been paid for things I originally consigned to them 8 months ago. read more

I definitely will come back again. I am not a consignment shopper, but my dad recommended we stop there when I was looking for my daughter a dresser. I found a great find. Very nice dresser for a great price. I agree with some of the other reviews that some of the furniture is over priced, but not all. I think the pricing is set by the selling party and not the store. So it depends on what the seller is wanting $ for the item. I saw one review saying customer service was bad. I was there 30 min looking and no one came up to me. Dont waist your time sending photos for approval. If there is one scratch on your item they will refuse to take it. My items were in excellent condition, yes they are used, but they were accepted by photo and then refused in person. My items were purchased new and only used in home staging. Nice people, and very helpful staff. The selection of stuff (because it's more than just furniture. it's stuff...) is big. Much of it is used and consignment, but some of it is new. This review is specifically about the new inventory. My wife and I purchased a table manufactured by a local (Austin) furniture maker that was for sale at Home Consignment Center. I did some quick research and found out that the table was fairly priced (meaning not significantly under retail). The table required several days in the garage because of the smell that *almost* had us demanding a refund. When it finally stopped gassing the place (which it eventually did), we liked the table fine, until the other day, when the leg fell out and the table toppled over. So I called the company and asked what could be done. Their position: Since the table had been sold to Home Consignment Center as a discontinued line (leading me to believe the store got a steep discount off vendor cost), any warranty would have to come from the store. So I called the store. The manager got back to me and quickly stated the position that "all sales are final because the product doesn't belong to us (meaning consignment goods are technically owned by the third party seller)" She eventually offered to have her repair guy take a look, and maybe that's about what I could hope for, but in the end, it was a glue-and-clamp job that I was able to manage myself. What gets me is that the product was discontinued by the manufacturer and off-loaded on to HCC as such, then HCC sold it as new at very close to retail pricing, then, when the furniture fell apart, they hid behind the policy that would apply to their consignment furniture ("It doesn't belong to us.") Long and short, The glue job appears to be holding and if it fails, I'll be walking the base into the manufacturer and asking what I can replace it with. I feel like I probably got ripped off by HCC and won't be buying anything from them again. I like the people, but based on the business practices, I can't recommend anyone else buy anything there either. read more

I love this place! I constantly find treasures here that make my home more beautiful and functional. I check in every three or four days to see what the new treasure hunt has in store. I especially enjoy the staff who are so helpful and accommodating, especially Shelly. Not only has she found me some really great stuff for my home when I tell her what I'm looking for, but she is so knowledgeable about the inventory. HCC has a huge selection and it's a big store. I ALWAYS find something interesting to purchase. I have seen a few pieces that were on the pricey side, but for the most part everything is reasonably priced. I typically walk the store 3 times because it's very easy to miss something and if you are looking for a particular item just ask someone behind the desk. The employees have always been helpful and polite. My one issue is the store hours, I wish they stayed open later. Regardless, this place is in my top 3 of go-to stores. read more

Ever been to a Parade of Homes or Model Home or experienced a "staged" Home? Yeah, I always wondered that too. What the hell do they do with all of the furniture after the Parade walks through. They sell it at a fraction of the original cost here. Some stuff is NEW from a Model Home and it is friggin' beautiful. All styles... Cold Moderne to Super Traditional to French Chateau to Bachelor Dark Leather. I really think that every person who has ever been in need of furniture and is on a budget in addition to every Realtor, architect, and designer in town needs to know about this place. Man Woman Child. They opened at the Arbor Walk around Thanksgiving and word is spreading. What do they have, you ask? 1. Couches - from 4'-0" love seat to 8'-6" sectional. All fabrics and textures. 2. Chairs - from overstuffed leather club chair to antique wood dining chairs. 3. Tables - from petite side table with a chess set inlaid in the wood to a massive 10' distressed wood dining table. 4. Chaise Lounges - from black leather and chrome modernist chaise to 5' wide by 7' long brown leather 2 person reading chaise to end of the bed bench. 5. Framed art that looks like a chinese scroll, an impressionist master, a child puked, and an Italian oil painting. All at very reasonable prices. 6. Outdoor furniture - chairs, tables, lounges. 7. Armoires and credenzas and shelves. Oh my! 8. Bed frames. 9. Dining room sets complete with place settings, utensils, plates, and matts. 10. Throw rugs from extra large to small. Antique oriental to whatever they are making today. Reds and greens and blues and oranges. 11. Staging nick nacks- these are the kinds of things that no one really owns but they show up in a model home to make it look like people live there. LIKE two leather bound italian looking books with gold lettering and a Rembrandt portrait on the cover, but when you open it, it is hollow. OR the 6 place settings with the silver utensils and silver napkin holder glue-gunned to the wooden matt. 12. Jewelry - diamond rings, gucci watch, silver bracelets. If you have hypoglycemia or react adversely to massive visual overstimulation, make sure to grab a bite to eat before-hand and go with a buddy who can lead your zoinked eyes back out of the door before you pass out. Some stuff is from a person's home and they are picky about what they will accept into the showroom. Some is mediocre. Sure, it all depends on who dropped stuff off yesterday, but at least the fish swimmin' in this tank are ALIVE! Important note: After choosing a beautiful couch and a side chair and side table and blah blah, we were encouraged by the floor salesperson (NOT working commission, BTW so NOT a stereotypical car salesman push to buy) to take our stuff on a "Test Drive." oh sweet irony. Well, Test Drives are free, right? We made the mistake of giving our credit card information, thinking we were on a Test Drive. A different person checked us out, and we did not say "TEST DRIVE" and we got in a bit of an accident, figuratively speaking. Next day, after communicating the essence of the miscommunicated and nearly being excommunicated, we returned the furniture for store credit and actually ended up with BETTER stuff. Upon closer inspection, there is a super mammoth sign above the cash register area that actually covers the Test Drive terminology in depth. We must have missed it on our first 7 visits. Last week, we emptied an entire storage unit (which we were paying a small king's ransom to store every month for several years) into this gazillion square foot warehouse. So, what was almost a really crappy misunderstanding about "Test Driving" the furniture and any ensuing bloodbath accident has turned into a fabulous and potentially lucrative experience. Thanks to Kristin who is the daughter of Karen, the owner, for being a great listener and having great customer service. The antiques from the Czech Republic - a large storage unit of them that were shipped over in a large metal crate after being hand-picked in Europe - well, they were ours. They can be yours. I am writing about taking my things there to be sold (consigner). I have sold things there before and everything went very well. Laura, a former salesperson/admin, is no longer there. I am very disappointed!!!! She was excellent! She was professional and pleasant unlike the young woman I just delt with. She was inexperienced and seem to love her power to say "NO". Laura came up with creative ways to sell my things, but Kristin was offensive in her abrupt and decisive manner when viewing my item. Laura would occasionally pair a couple of things together in order to make enough money for the store and be more effective in moving merchandise quickly. As the consigner I was appreciative of her creativity. I also wanted my items to sell quickly. It only took between 1 and 7 days to sell the items I brought in, with the exception of a couple small decorative items that never sold and were donated, as agreed upon by me. Kristin was not willing to do that. I took a framed picture in and Kristin QUICKLY said she would pass. A little while later I drove to South Congress and visited a popular home store there. They gave me $20.00 cash for it on the spot. He wasn't the least bit skeptical about his ability to sell my picture. Kristin didn't think she could sell it for even $10.00. I wish Home Consignment Center would get/or keep more experienced/mature people, who have more business acumen. There is nothing more irritating to me than someone in business who is too quick to judge and LOVES to say NO. She needs to learn to be more diplomatic with the potential consigners, who are also customers!!! On the other side of the business, they have some beautiful jewelry for fantastic prices. Herb Wright in the jewelry department is lovely to work with. I enjoy looking at the furniture and sometimes they have something I want. Recently, they had a great selection of hanging light fixtures, all pretty new looking. I have read the other reviews and I don't agree with the people complaining about the furniture. It is a resale store and it doesn't claim to be on the high end, does it? You will find nice pieces along with many mediocre pieces, and no really bad ones. It's like shopping at TJ Maxx, YOU will find treasures, if you have an open mind. Not everything will be amazing. That works for me, I am looking for deals. read more

Absolutely skip this store if you are claustrophobic, OCD or a neat freak. It is the most disorganized mess I've ever seen in my life. The entire time I was in there I kept thinking to myself "This mess has got to be against the fire code." There's no way you could safely get to the door if there was a fire. You have to literally climb over things to get from one side of the store to the other. I was convinced I was going to trip, fall, and break an ankle (again). Safety issues aside the place just pretty much sucks. I saw exactly one thing that I thought was nice or acceptable in the entire place. Of course, it was a dining table that is about 14x larger than I needed so it didn't come home with me. Most of the furniture was very cheaply made, not stylish and really would not fit in with the aesthetic of 99% of homes. We will not be going back. read more

So disappointed in this place. I've been wanting to stop by for a while and finally got to today. What a joke, lol. The prices looked to be similar to retail prices. A lot of cheap looking stuff, too, but priced so high. Sold as is, no returns. So a couch we were looking at was the kind with double recliners, except one side was broken. According to the employees "the box" was also missing. A guess the box to operate the recliners. So even if we found "the box" on Amazon and the one side didn't work with "the box" we would still be stuck with a lopsided couch. We were told by an employee that they would be getting a shipment in from Macy's next weekend. So do they get Macy's rejects? Their damaged products? We will not be back to this place, I don't think. read more

I HATE to shop and I love to save money! How can someone like me do both? Garage sales and consignment shops seem to work for me. Regrettably, this store does not fit my criteria. Typically you barter with consignment shop purveyors, but that is not the case with this business. The furniture is just as expensive as retail prices and majority of the items were damaged. Furthermore, the furniture is stuffed into a large area and is very difficult to look at the product. I was on the hunt for a queen bedroom set for my spare bedroom. Unfortunately, the bedroom furniture was the clunky oversized cheap wood 90's style furniture. I finally stumbled upon a headboard/footboard/rails set that was understated enough for me. The cost for just this set was $680 and the headboard had a large crack in the wood. So I thought I would ask staff to contact the owner of the bed and see if they would be willing to reduce the price of the bed. Sorry to say the employee refused and told me that all items are priced to sell. Really? This bed was not an antique; it was an out-of-date Macy's Department store piece. I have a hard time paying retail for used and damaged furniture. Guess I will have to purchase a new set, damn! read more

HCC turns their inventory over very quickly so check regularly. And if you are shopping for something in particular, you may not find it here. I'm not sure why people gave this place poor reviews. I always had a great experience and went there almost weekly for about 5-6 weeks when we were newly moved into our home. Their inventory changes constantly and if you see something you want, BUY IT. It will most likely NOT be there when you go back. You can place holds on items and even take it for test drive in your home! I found the staff there super friendly, willing to bargain if they could and the deals they have were amazing! You do have to be patient some times because the staff does get busy but when it's your turn they will give you their full attn and are great! They often get inventory from model homes so the pieces are UNUSED! Here is the list of the big items I scored: $975 mirrored cabinet for $300 $800 Pottery Barn black wood bar for $275 (unloaded that day) $800 Zocalo media console for $250 (unloaded that day) I got more things there, bar stools, a gorgeous lamp, wall art, a super unique bench and really the prices just don't even come close to furniture stores. I also enjoy the hunt, so it was really fun for me. The weekends are crazy. It's worth going on a weekday. If you can, leave your young kiddos at home. It's very tight to navigate and can be too frustrating w/little kids. My two year old went pretty nuts in there, my husband had to bail and take him out. Pack some blankets, twine and any other packing material you might need. Their guys are great at getting things in your car but you need your own supplies. In a pinch, pop over to Joann Fabrics next door and buy a ball of twine. ;) I had to do that once. I love that place and would heartily recommend it to anyone! Happy hunting! read more

I'm not quite sure if this is the best place to buy furniture for everyone but it sure is a great place to get a good idea of what kind of furniture you or your spouse enjoys more than others. They do not have a "setup" of floor plans like IKEA does, which in my opinion actually confuses me more because they set it up so well that you could not imagine it anywhere else excerpt in their concept designs. Instead, you have a bunch of great, high quality furniture just randomly(but neatly) placed everywhere without having a designated place or style to follow. You can jump from a great leather couch to a nice king size bed within a few steps reach. The staff is quite helpful and attentive. The location is great for a quick stop in or even to just kill some time. Some prices are quite high but some are great deals also. If not anything else, you can just stop in for a quick spin to freshen up on your furniture taste buds! :D read more

I first went to Home Consignment in California. When I moved to Austin I was glad to see a "branch". I have sold and purchased through them and my experience has always been with professional, courteous, respectful staff. Can't tell you how many times I stop by just to browse what they have as the inventory changes rapidly; not always my taste but there is a wide variety. Lately I have noticed more "new" furniture (from overseas) coming in and I'm not keen on that. I read another review that slammed the staff for not being more attentive, however, I have always found them helpful when I needed and the rest of the time they are busy selling or answering questions, not hovering. read more

Absolutely great Customer Service. Went in and bought a queen bed frame that turned out to be a California Queen that I could not use. The store Manager Tracey exchanged it and found me an even better frame at a better price that I loved. Then she worked with me on the pick up date and getting a box frame. I highly recommend the store, it was a great experience for me and I'm on the waiting list for a second frame that they are helping me search for. Also, bought a leather sofa couch from them a few years back that has also worked out wonderfully. Murrial called me again several hours later, to let me know that the delivery guys were on their way! Now, that is Customer Service, above and beyond, old school, the way we were raised.
