I honestly cannot say enough good things about Holy Land. This place is a total gem in Northeast Minneapolis. I am always amazed by how much they have going on here. It is way more than just a restaurant, because the attached grocery store stocks everything you could ever need. I love being able to grab hard to find spices, fresh pita, and halal meat like goat or lamb all in one trip. The food in the sit down area is just incredible too. You have to try the hummus. It is seriously creamy and flavorful, probably the best I have had in the city. I also ordered the shawarma recently, and the spices were perfect. The vibe is great, but the workers really make it special. Everyone is super nice and willing to help you find things in the aisles or figure out what to order. They have great affordable and reasonably healthy lunch options for under $15 and as someone who doesn't like to splurge on lunch that makes this perfect. I ordered the Arabic shawarma wrap. It's pretty small, so not necessarily ideal if you're really hungry, but the shawarma flavor is rich, sweet, spicy and everything you want wrapped in one. I also got stuffed grape leaves. They were okay, but a lot more wet and cold than other variants I have had. They also lacked in flavor a little bit and presented a bitterness I'm not used to in this dish. It comes with an option for sauce and I opted for their cucumber sauce, which always adds that extra creaminess necessary. Holy Land not only acts as a restaurant but also as a grocery store so it makes it a great spot to grab your occasional odd and end groceries while picking up lunch. I can't recommend this place enough! The prices are reasonable and they give you a lot of portion!! I had falafel salad, and the falafel was crunchy and crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside!! They also gave tahini dressing on the side, which complemented fresh veggies really well. I think every menu item also came with bread as a side? My friend got the fish with rice and she also got the bread as a side. Servers were constantly checking up on us, and they gave us free desserts for our table (two biscuits and two semolina or honey cakes), which is really nice of them. I have been to this restaurant too many times to count over the last 10 years. Their half or whole chicken meals are chef's kiss! If you dine in, about 90% of the time we go there is a lovely waitress who will also come around serving small pieces of cake. The grocery store is well stocked and one of the very few places that sells goat and lamb in many varieties of cuts. Both the restaurant and grocery store are very busy but we have never had any issues getting a table to sit and eat. Holy Land didn't disappoint. They have parking in the back, you can enter also. I didnt buy anything at the grocery store, but all the reviews speak about all the goodies. Upon entering customer service was professional and helpful. You place your order at the register before finding a seat. They will give you a number for your table. The food is reasonable priced for the huge amt of food they give you, be prepared. Tip: you may want to share with someone. We ended up taking leftovers back to hotel. This particular instance, we had company from out of town and while exploring Minneapolis, we decided to share this place with our friends. We walked around and picked items from the marketplace for like an hour, there's just so much to absorb there. Afterwards, we went to the restaurant and ordered multiple lunch specials. The portions were generous where everyone had to use a to-go box. The food was exceptionally flavorful! And the service was truly amazing. I'm not one to leave bad reviews ever unless things went catastrophically wrong. If I don't "like" the food, typically, I just don't review the restaurant because it's subjective. Been eating my way up and down Central and thought I'd give this a try next. Placed a delivery order. The main dish didn't show up just the sides. Apparently it was out of stock, but I didn't receive a call to see if I'd like a replacement. Why would I want to pay for expensive delivery to only receive side dishes? The falafel bag appeared to have an old used wrapper crumpled up inside it with a stale fry in the wrapping... The other food: the Tabouleh salad was actually delicious and acidic. We ordered the wood-fired rotisserie chicken dinner and the chicken by itself, there were no leftovers! The dinner comes with salad and rice. The bread has the best spice spread on it. The restaurant menu is HUGE and has basically everything you can think of. My family came here for a big meal and we ordered a whole set of pita sandwiches with some appetizers. We started off with a Large Hummus Bil-Tahini and oh my god, it was the best hummus I have had in the Twin Cities. So creamy and so delightful, it blew everyone's mind. I got a Kufta Kebob Sandwich Combo for my meal. The fries were great and the pita was solid. It was definitely a good pita, but wasn't mind blowing like the hummus was so next time I'm going to try something new. When we were finishing up, the servers were so kind to us and came over to complementarily offer us some Namoura for dessert. We all shared it and it was so yummy and so kind of them to give us. The store is definitely extremely casual - you order up at the front and get a number and they come find you later to deliver your food. It's loud and it's crowded, but everyone is really enjoying their food and you can tell a lot of these people are regulars with how all the staff know them. Then, on the other side of the storefront is the grocery store which offers a lot of middle eastern specialties for very reasonable prices - I come here all the time for my groceries. Was looking for Injera bread. One of my clients from Ethiopia makes it and I sampled it at their home. I asked a worker there and he said it's a sour bread and peanut butter tastes the best on it. Also mostly they dip it in soups or stews. I also found these cute pita slider buns that my spouse liked and hummus that was on sale. When ordering, the cashier made great recommendations, and I felt a really comforting vibe being surrounded by kind, happy people. Love holy land for so many reasons. It's huge and is a grocery store, bakery, and restaurant. Grocery store - My favorite thing to buy here is the tahini! It's miles better than your typical clumpy grocery store tahini. They also have a huge range of spices and dried beans/lentils at an affordable price. Restaurant - They have a huge menu and are very friendly towards dietary restrictions (vegan and gluten free options are plentiful on the menu). Portions are also huge and you get a great amount of food for the price. And the food is pretty tasty. I paid about $6 for a small hummus (includes pita) and $9 for the spinach pie and it was enough food to feed 1.5 to 2 people. Reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5: On the menu, the spinach pie picture is labeled vegan but in the description, it's written that there's feta in the order which is obviously not vegan. I asked the nice woman working whether the feta comes on the side and whether it's possible to remove it. She seemed confused about the discrepancy and told me that the spinach pies are vegan and she thinks it will be fine. When I opened my box, there was feta on the side. Luckily I was able to still eat the pie but I found it strange that she was unable to add a note in the system saying "no feta". It sucks to waste food, but maybe she was new. Tips: - They do have a small parking lot in the back (entrance on Central Ave). There's also free street parking in the area. - The desserts/pastries in the restaurant looked absolutely delicious including the baklava, honey cake, and kunefe. For a split second, I was regretful about being vegan. - Fair state brewing is across the street and allows outside food. I got my food to go and ate it there with a beer. They have lot of baklavas and many other middle eastern deserts to buy. And they even sell household groceries and huge collection of bread. Food : We ordered a family combo and it was well sufficient for 4 ppl. They have lot of kababs, hummus, rice, salad, bread and honey cake. Chicken kabob could have used a bit of salt. The 2 Gyros was horrible. The Pita Bread was thin and falling apart. We asked for cucumber sauce on the Gyros and they gave us 4 small containers and charged us $4 for them.
