The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because I've eaten at Andina in Portland, and that sets the bar too high. Pros: 1. The drinks. I ordered a mojito cubano, my wife a Pisco sour. Not only were both drinks fresh and delicious, they serve you the full glass plus the shaker. About a total of 2-3 drinks for the price of 1. 2. The Food. I ordered the Seco de Pollo, my wife the Lomo Saltado. Even though we ended up switching meals half way through, both dishes gave us a unique Peruvian experience. I wished the Seco de Pollo had a stronger flavored sauce - the dish was a little bland. 3. Ambience & Service. Now, although the next-to-the-movie-theater location is less than ideal, the ambience in this place wasn't bad. Interesting art work and simple, yet comfortable decor. The waiter was prompt and friendly. 4. After the meal. They give you a complimentary shot of Almendrado (an almond Tequila I think). It was delicious and a really nice touch. Cons: 1. Confusion. I'm not exactly sure why the menu is half Peruvian-half Mexican...the Peruvian offerings could and should stand alone. Perhaps they felt that the 'mall crowd' would be turned off by something so 'ethnic'. 2. Price. Yes, this place is a little on the expensive side. Two drinks and two entree's put us in at just under $55. On the strength of the food and drinks, this place is a great after-movie stop. We had a great experience, and will probably visit this place again on our next visit to Bend. read more

The last two times I've been here we've had to ask for the server to come take our order, they don't just come find you in a reasonable time after you are seated. Went here with a friend, I had a margarita and the Cuban cola pork nachos which I thought would be fairly straight forward. The margarita was great, the nachos not so amazing. The pork tasted old and no hint of cola or Cuban to be found, unless the Cuban part was the black beans sprinkled in the coagulated cheese with a tablespoon of guacamole and sour cream that looked more like a garnish. There was no salsa to be found only diced un ripe tomato hanging with the chunks of old pork. This was disappointing. First off, there was no seating so they asked us to wait but said they don't take names so we waited on the sidewalk for 25 minutes. The two waitresses seemed extremely inexperienced because they did not know when to come over and help and even spilled water on the table. They didn't really come out to check on us or fill up water or refill chips. The one waiter seemed to be managing the whole place by himself. He also seemed like the owner and had a great personality. It took some time for them to take our order. The chicken tacos were extremely bland as the chicken had no seasoning. The taco shell was stale and tasted like cardboard. but the chips and salsa were good. I recommend the beef because it was better seasoned. The food was way too overpriced for mediocre food. 1st time here. I am staying at a nearby hotel and wanted to try something new. I was intrigued at the Mexican/Peruvian combination. I wanted to try something different as I had never had Peruvian food. I ordered the Chancho alo Sancho at the suggestion of Pancho. What a great choice! It a combination of braised pork in Coca-Cola with yams, onions, tomatoes, and Peruvian sofrito sauce. It was excellent and I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something out of the ordinary. Meh. Was teetering between two and three stars but the neither the food nor service were very good so landed on two. Maybe we just didn't order the right items but nothing was that great. My Baja chicken burrito was a little bland and the sauce in top tasted like watered down tomato sauce. My husband got a salad, which was a bunch of romaine dumped on top of a pile of shredded chicken, with tortilla strips, guacamole, and tomatoes sprinkled around. A little pricey for what you get. The waiter we had was not super friendly; perhaps they're nicer to customers who order alcoholic drinks but since we stuck to water and soda, didn't get a lot of attention or smiles. The free chips and salsa were all right though; the red salsa more than the green - the green tasted like blended up cilantro. Disappointing experience given the other options in the Old Mill district and especially other Mexican options in the area. read more

I'd be hard-pressed to decide which is better the drinks or the food. Hola makes the best margaritas I have ever had. From Prickly Pear to Tamarind to Hibiscus to Vanilla and more...they give you not only the glass but the whole shaker. Reminds me of when they gave you the silver shake mixer cup with your shake as a kid. If that's not enough, their fine tequila offerings knows no bounds. Not just shootin' tequila, sippin' tequila. And there are a number of peruvian drinks that are just as fine. But then you get to their food. Warm chips come with red salsa and a green salsa...more like a cilantro dip (as best I can tell). So good I want to drink the stuff! Their halibut ceviche is an elegant appetizer and their guacamole is freshly made at the table with no fillers or additives. I've had a number of dishes at Hola, none are bad. The tamales are made with a light masa that enhances the filling's flavor. The refried beans are light. The tequila prawns have just the right amount of sweetness. The carne asada is perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spices. The ahi chile relleno is what happens when a chili relleno grows up and gets finessed. And for dessert, don't forget the sugar-rimmed Mexican coffee or perhaps some flan. This is a friendly, cozy atmosphere, with bright south american colors and you really feel like yelling Hola! To all the newcomers. I used to love Hola, now I'm just lukewarm about them. Love that they are locally owned and expanding, I'm glad they are doing well. The cocktails can't be beat if you like margaritas and mojitos and all the variations in between. I also love the green salsa that comes with chips to the table. I put it on everything, it's that good. Their food is just so-so. My kids love the bean burritos with rice and bean on the kids menu. Great. The adult menu items just don't have much too them in the flavor department and I've tried them all. The chicken (that everyone loves) to me is dry. And i'm a sauce girl, I want there to be enough sauce on my enchiladas to make it through the entire enchilada. The menu is not traditional mexican, it's Peruvian. To me that means even more opportunity to try something different. I want spice, I don't want bland. I can make bland Mexican food at hime. Service is always nice. Food comes out fairly quickly. read more

Hola's downtown bend is better than the old mill store, I think the foods better on Bond. I ordered the carne asada at old mill and they gave me a child's size thin strip of meat and small portion of beans and rice and charge 18 bucks? not cool. On bond they treated me well with the same dish, it was twice the size. I won't be going back to old mill. read more

A Peruvian twist to a Mexican theme has worked for me in the past. I visited Hola with warm expectations, and Hola did not disappoint. The drinks are generous and delicious. We went for the Pisco Sour and the Red Cactus Margarita. They're served in a glass, with extras to boot. The salsa is good - green and red - with the chips a mix of tortilla chips and potato chips. We ordered the Peruvian stew (fantastic comfort food on a cold night), which is a mix of chicken and potatoes in a thick flavorful broth. And we ordered the Mole Poblano (the menu calls it a 75-year old family recipe). The mole is reddish in color, mildly sweet with a strong nutty flavor. Chunks of chicken and red onions swim in a soup of this wonderful mole, which comes with choice of flour or corn tortillas. I found the service to be attentive and the other customers to be mildly entertaining. Hola's a great find (and alternative to the competitive pub fare here in Bend). read more

My husband and I spent a day in bend shopping together. We started at the Old Mill District and decided to have lunch there. A few of the other restuarants were recommended by shop workers, but I had checked Yelp! before we left town and noticed Hola had great reviews. So when I saw Hola there I knew it would be decent. We didn't even check the menu before going in. We were seated promptly and brought a basket of warm tortilla chips with two salsas. Those were the best salsas I have ever had in a restuarant. So. Good. I knew we were in for a treat, and we both ordered off the Peruvian section of the menu. I ordered a chicken entree that said it would be served with cold chile-lime mashed potatoes, spicy peanuts, and boiled egg. I'm a gamer, so I went ahead and got it. They delivered the most colorful, bright yellow soupy plate to me. It was pulled white meat with flavorful olive pieces, veggies, some of the spicy peanuts, just a touch of hard boiled egg for garnish, a scoop of rice, and two small scoops of the potatoes. I didn't think cold potatoes would/could be tasty, but this was fabulous. So many flavors, piping hot, and just the right portion. I'm so glad they didn't give me a bigger plate or I would have been very uncomfortable (I wouldn't have been able to stop!). Yummm. I also had a glass of jamaica (hibiscus iced tea) that was just lightly sweetened. Perfect. My husband had a pork stew with yams and rice that he said was divine. He'd never had Peruvian food, and we both agreed we'd seek Hola out next time we come to Bend! Very, very tasty. We were in and out in less than an hour, and our bill for two drinks and entrees was $28. They do have less expensive options that also sounded yummy, but I felt we got a great deal and everything is reasonably priced. read more

By far, this was the worst restaurant experience we've had in Bend. On a Saturday afternoon at 1:15, we visited Hola---past the lunch rush. We seated ourselves and shortly thereafter, the busboy brought over water, chips and salsa. For 15 minutes after this, we, along with two other tables, watched the owner sit at a table filling out schedules while one employee acted as bartender and server for the entire restaurant. No typo - the same person was responsible for waiting on the entire restaurant, bar tending and acting as the cashier. Finally, after not receiving a menu or being approached by the owner or waiter, we left. Shortly thereafter, so did two other tables. On the way out, I told the owner that he needed to set an example and help out. He just kind of smirked and seemed not to care that he just lost 12 customers. Hasta la vista to Hola. read more

Went here for lunch in between a double feature movie day and was pleasantly surprised. I'm actually pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food -- I'm not into spicy food and sometimes it's hard for me to find something to eat when I go to a Mexican restaurant. My friend and I stuck with appetizers this time because we weren't super hungry -- I had fresh guacamole (which they were nice enough to make without the cilantro) and my friend and I split the Nachos with the Coca Cola pulled pork and black beans... Oh. My. God. It was soooooooooo good! The service was also excellent -- our server was attentive, but not annoyingly so, and the atmosphere was really nice. They were a little pricey -- $9 for each appetizer -- but the food was good enough that I didn't really care about that. I'll definitely be returning! read more

I would only return for the happy hour at this location. The wait and bar staff are somewhat rude and dismissive. It is hard to get anyone's attention unless they want to call you out for something. A woman sat down at the bar because no one had greeted her or acknowledged her and the seat was open. The bartender said something to her and other patrons about not signing up on the list and waiting to be called. The drinks for happy hour are worth it if you don't mind the chaos and happen to be in the area. Otherwise, go somewhere else. The food was nothing special (flavor-wise or portions) for the prices they normally charge. If it's crowded - maybe don't bother. read more

Hola!, that was tasty! Came here for lunch and was impressed by the complimentary chips and salsa. Generally I prefer a thicker chip, but I'm not going to complain because they were very generous with refilling the basket and the salsas. Both salsas were delish. We went for a Mexican dish (enchiladas with mole) and a Peruvian option (a stew with veggies). The enchildas were surprisingly dry and I would've prefered much more mole, but what we had of it was good. I can't really speak to the mole's subtle nuances and next time I would ask for another ladle-full. The rice and beans weren't particularly noteworthy. The winner, between the two dishes, was the stew. It had a very flavorful cilantro-based sauce (very similar to the salsa verde) and nice chunks of tender chicken and veggies. I only wish it had more yams (only two slices) and less onions. Overall, both dishes could use improvement, but the service was so friendly and attentive and the flavors were good, so they get the 4th star for the overall experience. read more

Used to be great but seems to have gone downhill in the last two years, which is unnfirtunate because we used to really enjoy the food and drinks here. Our last visit was on a non-holiday Wednesday night in August 2015. We arrived at 8:00PM, most of the tables inside were full and there was one waiter for all. After a very long wait we were eventually served stale chips and salsa. Sensing that service may be an issue we decided to order simple, quick plates (3 tacos, and taco/tostada combo). Two small children from the table next to us were allowed to run around the restaurant and continually bump into, lean on and play next to our table; the waiter saw this happening and said nothing to the other party. While waiting for our food we noticed the many greasy hand prints all over the menus, tables, windows and chairs coupled with a good amount of dust which has been lingering on the blinds for quite some time. Over an hour after being seated we were finally served what had to be the worst meal we have ever had at any restaurant in Bend. The chicken in my tacos had clearly been pulled from a can. It was bleached white, NO seasonings at all and dripping with salty water = canned chicken. We didn't even finish our meals. We wont be back. read more

Hey everyone trying to eat at The Hola! Sunriver location they are CLOSED for the winter season. Not sure where the mishap accrued but they set up a forwarding phone number to their restaurant and I've now been receiving about 40+ phone calls a day to my personal cell phone with people trying to make reservations.. The number you read on the Google link isn't my cell phone number but it connects to my phone when the links are used. Please let it be known that they are CLOSED, again for the winter season. I've spoken with a manager at a different Hola! Location in Bend who was very helpful and is trying to work on this problem but it still isn't fixed and my phone is blowing up all day.. I had been wanting to try this restaurant for some time and it very much so disappointed! The food was horrible, the rice wasn't cooked. Service was awful! Not impressed and I would not recommend this restaurant at all. It was not even busy and people were coming to the desk and saying they had been waiting 20 minutes for a menu. Several people got up and left. But what really got me was that there was an employee cleaning a shelf while standing with his shoes on the counter! Disgusting! Side note, not the restaurants fault but their Internet was down and they would not offer any other way to pay then for them to write down our full credit card number and then process the payment when services came back online. I was not comfortable doing so, but they would not let me leave until doing so. WILL NEVER GO BACK AND WONT RECOMMEND! read more
