Decent BBQ joint that seems to VERY popular with the locals. For the area it is probably one of the best options. It absolutely doesn't compare to what I'm used to at my regular joints in New Orleans, Texas etc. etc. During my first visit I was considering making a return visit to sample their burger but after looking at pictures of the burger and from my experience of their BBQ I just think I'm not going to ever be motivated enough to make a return visit as to me it just doesn't ring my bell as I've been so spoiled by Gonzo's Smokehouse in Luling, LA (best in the WORLD as far as I'm concerned) Austin, TX BBQ (second places-ish with other Texas joints) and Kansas City BBQ (always fighting for the top spot)... Once you've experienced Nirvana it is hard to fall back to mere mortal morsels although if you put that BBQ meat in front of me when I'm hangry I will totally destroy it like a pack of lions or school of rabid piranhas as I'm all about a big pile of meat and my carnivore beast instincts will take over!!! read more

The food was GREAT! Ham sandwich, Chicken sandwich on a nicely buttered bun with pickles and BBQ sauce. The service was wonderful. The staff was very nice and the food came out quickly. We were just passing through town and it was well worth the stop. We hope to be back again! The ambiance was nice. Really clean. Soft music in the background. In town from the Fort Worth area on business. I'll preface this with knowing that I am spoiled with some of the absolute best bbq in all of Texas within a 10 to 30 minute drive from home (Justin). But I thought MS being a southern state and being in the south part of the state would provide some decent bbq options but I was wrong. Don't go there if you are used to good bbq. The place appeared clean. The outside looked like it was going to be good. They say Texas toast, but it's just regular toasted wheat bread with a little butter. I have that same natures own bread at home I make my sandwiches on. They need to take a lesson from Raising Canes. I got the ribs, they were a weird texture. Fall off the bone, yes but is there such a thing as too much like it was braised for hours, like a pot roast would be. I also tried the wings. Both the wings and the ribs were way too salty. The wings texture was not bad. They were not soggy or fatty. Too bad they were over seasoned. The fries were ok. I was not a fan but like bbq, I think fries preference is subjective. The last part and maybe least important is the staff. All I will say is, you can definitely tell they did not want to be there. read more

My mother brought stopped for takeout this evening. She got me pulled pork, slaw, beans, and bread. It was all really, really good! The pork and slaw just needed a little salt, but I enjoyed them both immensely! And the beans... they had sausage and a nice oniony flavor. I really liked them! And it was more than enough for lunch tomorrow! She said that her sandwich was really good, too. She wasn't really keen on the slaw, but that's ok... I got to eat hers, too! The ribs alone are worth a five star review. As a someone who follows the Keto diet, I had to get the ribs without sauce. Typically, the ribs at most place are a tad dry. Not here. They were absolutely moist, tender, and flavorful. Here's a tip though: add some variety in your sauces. There is no white or vinegar based sauce. I'd like to see that change! From a customer service standpoint, Emily is a gem and was zipping around the restaurant and just doing a fantastic job! My husband has been wanting to try this place for a while and so today we gave it a try. I can't say it's the best- but it's not the worst. I had a pulled pork lunch basket and opted for the fries. My husband had a combo platter with baked beans, potato salad and a slice of Texas toast. Mine came in a basket (as expected I suppose) and my husbands came on a lunch tray almost type of plate. The food came pretty quickly and was hot and fresh- except the potato salad, which was served cold. Speaking of- the potato salad was more of a loaded potato bake- it was very good- but not your traditional potato salad. My husband felt the bar-b-w sauce was too vinegary. He also noted that he was surprised that there weren't a few different sauce choices being as it is a bar-b-q restaurant. The meat was smoked and very tender though. The ribs were falling apart they were so tender and the brisket was also very good. My pulled pork sandwich was very good as well. The fries were typical to what one would expect. My husband was not impressed with the baked beans- they seemed to be just your typical canned baked beans. One thing I can say- I hate being served a basket and not given a saucer or some sort or plate to go along with it. We were given our ticket shortly after we were served our food and then we really didn't see our waitress much. We ended up paying and asking a different waitress if she could help us with Togo items. To the defense or the waitress- I think we might have shown up right as the lunch rush was ending and she was probably taking a much deserved break. The place was pretty busy and pretty loud. It had kind of a cafeteria type feel to it. But- it was clean and everyone smiled and was polite during our visit. Overall- it's fine for the price. Best burgers & wings in the area!!! We are locals and typically call in to order weekly which is very convenient. The wait time is very minimal and the food is always perfect. Once while dining in our waiter thought our wings were over cooked so she had us more brought out. We were fine with them and only noticed a slight difference but she insisted on making sure they were perfect. Great food and service!! read more

I work in Lucedale but from Biloxi and the clients have told me the food at Hokie's was good. But... they didn't mention about the service... So I learned the hard way. Anyways, I went to Hokies the other day and when I walked in, I felt a very uncomfortable vibe. No one greeted me or anything. Only upsetting gestures. None of the workers smiled (female servers). My server didn't smile or made me feel welcomed when I ordered my food politely. I really hate to say that the food was really good but the service was sketchy. Nothing but lil snooty waitresses with their little MissMe jeans that only acknowledged the fancy men that goes there. Very sad. read more

Found this place while our exploring the local wildlife management areas, it was close to our location, the building is very nice, clean with plenty of seating, staff was friendly and attentive to our needs, the food was just okay, nothing special at all about the taste if their Q, nothing memoriabe, small portions and high prices... would return if I was in the area, but not making the trip just for the food. read more

YUcK!!!! The service was awful!! You have to know someone here to get decent service. This is one place I didn't even want a to-go box. It was horribly expensive as well. I don't know what the fuss is about with this place. My husband, his daughter, and I went here. We've been one time and have decided to never go back. It was a very bad experience. We had to ask for silverware, condiments, napkins, our check, more to drink. Even the sweet tea was horribly sour-it was bad. Like two weeks ago tea left out on the counter bad.
