Food is always great. Atmosphere feels like you are not even in Lucedale. Big upgrade being it is a small town. I would recommend anyone to Landmark.

POPEYE's can SLAP YA MAMA. The dinner (lunch) bell tolled. I was willing. Landmark Cafe was ready. 1) The Piece de Resistance. A golden, almost bright orange (literally in an Arby's way and, figuratively, golden in a mid 90s sitcom way), chalk-white chicken breast fried grandma's way. Crunch, Juice, Crunch, Repeat. 2) The Non-Sandy Foundation. A bed of pure mashed potatoes. Dass it. 3) The Medieval Mote. Zesty, Cajuny, Creamy, Crawfishy, sauce gravy abounds. Like warm lava, it flows into, above, around, and without the lump mash P. It's passion and spiciness offends the purity of the mash in ways so sinister. 4) The Support Function. The fried jalapenos will accompany that slim bottle of Louisiana hot sauce on the table. Spicy enough "as is" but enhanced with these Table Stakes, so to speak. mmmmm. Beefy is what Mankind sang in 2003 (not Ronnie sang--think Ronnie Spector). mmmmm. Savory is what I am singing after slurping down this blessed invention. Popeye's' gravy is chill. Popeye's' is also officially on NOTICE.

Cute little historic place with photos from around downtown. The service is great, very fast and attentive. The food is the best in the city. Can't recommend it more. Super fair prices beating most chain steak houses and other similar restaurants.

I've been going to Landmark for years, even when the old owners were operating it. I have always loved it so much, the hospitality, the food, the atmosphere, the cozy interior, I love it all. Just had to do an updated review to say it's all still just as awesome! My all time favorite meals are the catfish poboy, the macho shrimp fries, the boom boom shrimp tacos, and the redfish. The best side is the sweet potato waffle fries with the caramel sauce! I was just there last week and they are doing some renovating, this was such a surprise to me because it seemed so perfect how it was. I will say, this has nothing to do with the food and it would never stop me from going, but I really don't like the new chairs they've chosen. It made my back hurt and just was not comfortable at all. They're pretty, but not nice to sit in for me. However like I said, this will not keep me away. As long as they keep the same yummy food and great quality, I'll be a customer for life!

We had a really good lunch at Landmark Cafe. The stars of the show were the fried shrimp basket and the chicken creole. The creole chicken was a fried chicken breast, topped with a creamy crawfish sauce and fried jalapeño slices. It was served atop some very tasty mashed potatoes. The only letdown was the fettuccine Alfredo, which was just ok. I will blame that on my daughter ordering fettuccine Alfredo at a Cajun restaurant. The service was good, and the restaurant had a really nice, casual atmosphere. I recommend Landmark Cafe if you are ever in the area.

Key deserves a huge shout out for being such a sweet and attentive server. I liked her tremendously. We had the boudin egg rolls and the Swamp Tour Sampler: jambalaya, crawfish étouffée, gumbo, and red beans and rice. For dessert, we had bread pudding with beignets. The Boudin egg rolls were the best thing I ate on my entire trip. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly crispy, every bite was heaven. The jambalaya was the best jambalaya I had on my trip as well. It had a fantastic smokiness and was not wet at all. I also loved the crawfish étouffée. It was creamy and loaded. The red beans and rice had a bit of a sweet edge that was not quite my taste. Try for yourself. The bread pudding was the perfect sendoff. Bite-size beignets were nestled in the bread pudding. It was a sweet, creamy, perfectly Mississippi dessert. I loved Parrain's so much that I bought a T-shirt. I generally don't like wearing clothes that serve as advertisements, but this place just has to be advertised all around the country. We split a few things between the two of us. We had the tour of the swamp. The red beans and rice was really great. Not always my favorite when we go out but it really stood out. Very flavorful. The etouffee was great. Wish there was more crawfish but I always wish there was more. We all probably do with most dishes. lol. The jambalaya was really good. Well seasoned. Now my wife is picky about gumbo and is a hard judge to please. I am a little more on the giving side and look at it from the perspective of "even a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work" point of view. A day with gumbo is generally a better day most days. The gumbo this day was not great. I have heard amazing things and I was not impressed. I will only mark off a star because everything else was so great. I hope it was just a bad day and we will hope for a better next time. And there will be a next time for sure. The shrimp po boy was slam packed with shrimp. Great bread and dressed well. The boudin eggrolls were fantastic. Sift and tender on the inside and crispy crunchy on the outside. Loved them.

Well Saturday night there is an hour wait, oh no, we can't wait that long so we drive into downtown Lucedale for other options. Found this location empty except for one other table. Interesting decor and Scooby Doo on TV, so we roll the dice. Mrs had the hamburger steak, grilled Vegs and mashed potatoes, Lil Pug selected Cajun Pasta and I was in the mood for steak and had same sides as Mrs. Cajun pasta was not very spicy, maybe out bayou life has us used to more kick. Steak was straight out of a Time Machine, I would have sworn in was Quincy's in 1992. Hamburger steak with gravy was tough and dense. Sides were salty and potatoes were from a box as was the gravy flavor wise. All in all food was non eventful not bad, but not worth a stop. Service was a little lacking, perhaps the young lady's were wanting to be anywhere else that night. Again, not bad but just not any more than bare minimum. No real negatives but no positives either, a very bland experience. Would I eat there again? If hungry sure, but I think I will try somewhere else if I am in that situation again, there were a few other options within walking distance. Pictures posted show food and Scoob.

We started with the Boudreaux's egg rolls, they were awesome great texture crispy outside and soft avacado inside with a lot of flavor and great dipping sauce. Next I had the shrimp creole, with a substitute of side for gumbo. Both were very tasty and prepared perfectly, she had the black and bleu salad, the steak was very tasty and bleu cheese, well its bleu cheese and good bleu cheese. Last, we ordered an order of beignet's they were pretty good, a little on the heavy / dense side. The place was a little on the quiet side tonight despite the dining area being pretty full. One thing worth noting, we have noticed on our last two visits here the servers not clearing plates from the table when a persons is obviously finished eating either by the plate being pushed to the side or the universal silverware placement indicating, I am done eating. This time I had to ask her to clear the table before she brought anything else to the table. She was happy to do it, so maybe this timely removal of plates is not obvious, nor has it been explained/ taught by anyone. Service is important, this falls under the basics, if you are headed to the kitchen, do not go empty handed. Just a thought to improve the level of service. We will return.
