Real deal bbq. They do a lot in-house which is wonderful. Their brisket is worth it. And reasonably priced. Good service too.

Great food. A little pricey but worth it. The southern sopes are legit. I recommend this place.

To start off this place is in a really nice part of town. The building this bbq place is in is really nice inside and out . The service was excellent couldn't have asked for anything any better. Now let's get down to the food I have several smokers and I cook ever weekend at home I thought my food was pretty good until I went to hickory hog. This is the absolute best bbq joint I have ever been to I tasted every meat they had and can honestly say it's the best bbq I have ever had. Prices were great for the amount of food you get. They have a plate called alittle bit of everything just get it it's good the greens were perfect and the Mac and cheese exceptionally good. Do not miss this place do your self a favor and try it

Great BBQ restaurant in Lucedale! The pork belly burnt ends are AMAZING! I love their different sauces with all their dishes, and my favorite dish is the southern sope! It's a huge portion full of flavors! They have a bar in the back that serves a great selection of draft beer and has TVs for sports games, and plenty of seating in the front with booths and tables. We have also gotten the dips shareable which is HUGE! Everything I have tried has been amazing, definitely a great addition to the city's restaurant scene!

Drove here for Sunday lunch from Mobile. We had the Brisket Boudin, Fried Ribs, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Mac n Cheese and Okra. Everything was great. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and had coffee next door at Lucedale Coffee, great also. As we sat outside we could smell the meats smoking and it smelled so good. We weren't disappointed at all. The price was good and friendly service made for a great experience. Will be back again.

Sampler platter. So much food and great way to try multiple things!

Stopped by while in town for the first time. Fairly busy for a weekday. No wait to be seated and service was very fast. Looked to be a popular local spot for lunch. Ordered the Little but of everything sampler because we wanted to try as much as possible. It comes with homemade potato chips and a delicious cheese dip. Homemade pork rinds, spicy pickle slices, pickled onions. Boiled peanuts, a choice of 2 sides (we got fried okra and Mac and cheese), 2 ribs, pulled pork, pulled brisket, pulled chicken, sausage, and bread slices. Price was $45 for the platter but it can feed a few people and you can take leftovers home if you have any. They gave 3 BBQ sauces on the table, sweet, Original, and spicy. They are thinner tangy style sauces but still tasty. I prefer a thick sweet sauce but you do taste the smoke flavors of the meats best with a lighter style sauce like they serve here. Love the ambiance and food was plentiful. We will be back.

On a…read morehot summer afternoon, we were relieved for big fans and cold water, and hopefully tasty food. My smoked chicken sandwich was good and full of meat. To the point I needed a fork and knife to finish eating it. My side of collard greens were good but missing the smoked turkey flavor. My husband got a sandwich and 2 sides combo and had significantly less meat than I did in his sandwich. Not sure if that's because I ordered just a sandwich and 1 side vs a combo. The food came out fast enough and I believe the value of food received for the amount paid was good, but I was expecting more flavor. Overall, I don't think we'll be rushing back given the proximity to the start/ end of our drive.

As my last review said, I really use to love it. Food was good, full of flavor. Didn't matter if it was brisket or babyback ribs. But somewhere along the way, the prices got higher and higher, but the quality got less and less. Brisket getting tougher. Ribs being gritty from seasoning not cooked in. Use to, except for a few options, BBQ sauce was an add on. Now everything is covered in it. I think i can't give 1 star because part of me enjoys the sweet BBQ nostalgia of this spot. Bit despite living a short distance from this location, I can't justify a $40 rack of babyback ribs that won't hold up to The Shed of old. I hope they find their passion and focus again, the coast needs good BBQ! But sadly I feel it's holding on to a legacy and TV popularity instead of keeping the course that got them started.

I was finally able to make a point of making a special trip over there on a Saturday late afternoon. Unfortunately it still wasn't the best timing for a first trip or making a review as we were limited to what we could order based on the fact that their hours state they close at 5 but they shut the kitchen down at 4:30 and we got there just after 4. It's hard going out for dinner to a place that closes at 4:30. I ordered a sausage sandwich which to my delight was not the monotonous Conecuh. It was really good and reminiscent of some of the whole in the wall places in Texas that does good sausage. The only draw back was that being near closing time they didn't have links but was able to do slices. It was good but hard to eat. My hubs got chicken and ribs. I liked the ribs... they still had some bite, tender but not falling apart, and the smoke is mild, not overkill like so many other places do. Hubs wasn't a huge fan of but I thought they were nice. The chicken was on the dry side, but I never go to a bbq joint to order chicken so it's not a deal breaker for me. The only major downer was that all of our sides seemed to be standard pre-made and ordered items, not made in-house. I also liked the hole in the wall vibe, the friendly staff, and the divine smoke aroma that lets you know you're in the right bbq joint. All in all I enjoyed their Q and will need to go back when I can get the timing right to sample their steam table offerings.

I left expecting memorable barbecue. I left wondering what all the hype was about. The restaurant has a true down-home, hole-in-the-wall country smokehouse feel. The building looks like a converted home, and the patriotic, pro-America décor fits the barbecue theme well. Unfortunately, our experience got off to a slow start. We walked in and weren't greeted, which made for an awkward first impression. I ordered the DDD Burger, the restaurant's featured burger made with a half-pound brisket and chuck blend, rib candy, pepper jack cheese, and Spicy Carolina sauce. I paired it with Boss Beans and French fries. My wife ordered the Smoked Pulled Brisket on a baked potato with pepper jack cheese, butter, sour cream, White BBQ sauce, and Sweet & Spicy sauce, plus a side of banana pudding. MeatBoss_Menu_12-5.pdf The food arrived warm, but it could have been served much hotter. The biggest disappointment was the DDD Burger. For a sandwich that's been showcased on national television, I expected something that would justify the recognition. Instead, it was simply underwhelming. I didn't dislike it, but I certainly didn't get the hype. It lacked the flavor and wow factor you'd expect from a signature item. The sides followed the same pattern. The Boss Beans were basic, and the fries weren't as crispy as they should have been. My wife's loaded baked potato was also underwhelming. The White BBQ sauce and Sweet & Spicy sauce were both okay, but neither added enough flavor to make the dish memorable. Dessert didn't change the outcome. The banana pudding was fine, but there was nothing special about it. Ironically, the best part of our meal was the Coke Zeros. Pros * Authentic country smokehouse atmosphere * Patriotic décor * Generous portions Cons * No greeting upon entering * Food could have been hotter * Signature DDD Burger failed to impress * Basic beans * Fries lacked crispness * Loaded baked potato was underwhelming * Average banana pudding * Overall meal didn't live up to its reputation I genuinely wanted to like Meat Boss, especially given its appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Unfortunately, nothing we ordered stood out enough to make us want to return. For us, Meat Boss wasn't a boss at all. It was more like Meat Meh.
