Tried this place on the recommendation of a close friend and it did not disappoint! Everyone there is so friendly and warm, and the price is sublime. $9 for a regular bowl (which includes 3! scoops of fish) and $7 for a mini-bowl, also a pretty sweet deal. The poke is served a little different here than the other places I've tried in that the fish is next to the rice instead of on top of it. I think I like mine on top more, but that's just personal preference. One complaint I'd say is that I wish they had more sauces. Or maybe more specifically more savory sauces. Right now there's just spicy mayo. I took a risk and tried the sweet garlic, but it tasted more like honey mustard. Not really my thing. My entire experience from start to finish was super easy and enjoyable! My friend and I decided to come to try it out, we arrived at 8:30ish expecting to take it to go because they closed at 9. I got the poke burrito(~$8) and she got the mini bowl (~6.50). They asked us if we wanted to go or dine in and we said to go, but they generously offered us to dine in if we wanted to since they were going to stay around to clean up. Ordering was very simple and straightforward. It's kind of like chipotle for poke. You pick what you want and make it your own. We got our food then we checked in on yelp and they give a FREE fountain drink with a check in! To top it all off I asked for miso soup, and I guess since they were about to close he gave us soups for free! The environment is clean and looks new. The max occupancy is 49, so this may not be the best place to go for groups. I also wanted to add that the music played was BOMB so many great tracks (just a side note) That was just a little summary of my experience here, but I really enjoyed the burrito! It wasn't too big, but that's ok because it's about the size of an order of sushi. Loved my time here! What really stood out to me about this place was the service. I tried this location with my wife yesterday eveninf for dinner. She got a mini amd I got a large. For the price, you get quite a lot of value and a good amount of food. I'd bookmarked this place to try for a few months. The operations and ordering process works like Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin...build as you go. The one major negative is that the assembly process is not that fast...especially when they add the sauce and hand mix the sauce with your proteins...they need to find a faster way of decreasing lead time. If no one is there, this is a non issue. If there is a nominal line when you arrive, be ready to wait awhile. There were only 2 people assembling when we got there. So when we we there, the power for the entire building shut down. They did seem to miss a little bit of a beat, but figured out how to handle it jist before the power kicked back on. They luckily had a backup way to process orders, a cell phone app where they hand input my cc info. If they didn't have a backup, they'd either have to close the shop early or only accept cash or give the existing queue their meals free. Another unfortunate circumstance was that they ran out of braised beef RIGHT before I ordered. They did give me a bit more tuna and salmon to try to make up for it. Tip for non veggie lovers...your plate will be empty looking without any vegetables. Overall pretty good, considering the circumstances, but not incredibly blown away. So Yelp deleted my original review....seems very shady/sketchy. So I'm re-reviewing. Alas, another poke place has popped up in the DFW and this time it's landed in Richardson next to UTD. Great location for targeting college students. Poke bowls are such a great and simple concept, however, Hoki Poki does a pretty terrible job. I left feeling pretty underwhelmed. Unfortunately I wasn't very impressed with Hoki Poki. You're basically getting Kroger quality ingredients...at best. If y'all have tried the cheap, refrigerated sushi from Kroger you'll know what I mean. I got a large poke bowl with white rice. Their ratios are off. I got an enormous amount of average quality rice. Actually, the rice sucks and tastes very cheap. With a large bowl you get 3 small "scoops" of protein. The crabmeat was poor quality. The spicy tuna and salmon were just meh/ok...I doubt they were fresh. I was given such a small amount I can hardly judge. They are very stingy here with their proteins. Once I saw the wasabi was from a tube I had to pass on that. The flavors of all the sauces do NOT go well with the ingredients. I don't know what it is about all the sauces being mixed together like that but it tastes pretty terrible. Presentation is key but my bowl was a disaster. I also tried the burrito. I love the sushi burrito concept but the burrito here is an absolute mess. You might be thinking the prices for pokebowls here are GREAT compared to the other poke places in DFW. It's true. I was very impressed with their food! I got the small, and that was the perfect portion for me. I really like how I was able to customize the bowl to my liking, and they had a good variety of sides and mix ins. The restaurant itself was very clean and the service was impeccable. The texture of the rice did complement the flavors really well. I asked for mild with spicy mayo on the top, but I wish I had gotten it extra spicy! I got two scoops of salmon and one scoop of tuna and I could tell that the fish was fresh. At first when I saw pineapple as a mix in option, I was skeptical, because I usually don't like to combine fruit with savory foods. I live in California and found this place through a coworker while I was traveling for work. During the first two weeks, all menu items were 50% off. I ordered the large (4 scoops of protein) which is originally $10 and only paid $5. They also have a stamp card where you can buy 10 poke bowls and get the next one free. The poke selection was comparable to other poke restaurants and all of the ingredients were fresh. I especially liked the addition of the ribs as an option. My only complaint is that they're not very efficient but that's something that can be improved over time. I've seen other poke restaurants use paper order forms with check boxes which might be easier for both the employees and the customers. read more

We were first excited for a closer poke bowl place, unfortunately this is not the one. The ingredients did not taste fresh although there's a sign posted that they get their fish daily. Since we did go at the end of the day, maybe that's why it didn't taste as good but still... it was not just the fish. The seaweed salad and crab meat like others have said tasted very artificial. The bowl had too much of the house sauce and made everything soggy. You can't even taste the spicy mayo through the sogginess of their house sauce. When I think poke, I think fresh semi-healthier alternative with good flavor. Our meal today did not leave that impression. However, the owner was very nice. Hopefully, they get better with time. I recently stumbled upon this little place while going to Off Campus Books. I saw that all their food was 50% off til Sept. 15th, so being a broke college student, I had to give it a go. When coming in, there is a glass case, like at Chipotle. There are different proteins, sides, and toppings to choose from. You can choose from a small bowl ($7.99), a large bowl ($9.99), or a burrito (8.99). The base is either brown or white rice or salad. The sides are seaweed salad, edamame, spicy edamame, and crab meat. The proteins are tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp, or korean braised rib. The mix ins are white onion, cucumber, cilantro, pineapple, or carrot. The sauces are not spicy, spicy, or very spicy. The toppings include masago, green onions, fresh jalapeños, wasabi, fresh ginger, furkake, avocado, and spicy mayo. I got a large. It comes with three proteins, two sides, and all the mix ins and toppings you want. You can also pick the spicy level of your sauce. The drinks are also 50% off if you check in through Facebook . We went here on opening day they knocked it out of the park, and they are STILL rocking! The set up is very simple, you don't pay for eating off fancy dishes here, just good quality ingredients. So how it works (if you've never had poke before) you pick your rice base, then meats (the shirt rib is amazing if you don't like fish) then you add fillers and sauce. It's incredible!! It's run by the owner and his wife and they are both super nice. They have different weekly specials/ discounts every once and a while so check out the board out side. My husband is in LOVE with this place and goes here at least once a week. I like a little more variety so I can't do it as much as he can but it's still REALLY good! Go check it out! Been here a few times now and have been pretty happy each time. Once got a bowl and 2 other times have gotten the wrap. I really enjoy the wrap as it's a seaweed wrap and when I choose brown rice it's a pretty healthy yet satisfying option. I highly recommend getting the salmon mixed with spicy tuna as your meats and definitely recommend their chili sauce, eel sauce, and spicy mayos. Really solid lunch place that will leave you feeling satisfied without sacrificing health. My only knock on the place is that the "small" size bowl is not worth the price at all. Just get the regular size for 1-2$ more, it's almost double the portion size of the small. read more

For the price and quality of the food, you really can't beat it. I ordered the regular poke bowl and let me tell you, they do not skimp on the portions at all. Their protein selection is quite limited (if we're being real, as a poke place they really only offer salmon, tuna, and spicy tuna), but they do offer chicken, shrimp, and meat options for those that are freaked out over raw fish. Initially, I was a little confused the way the regular sized bowl is sized in like a mini TV tray dinner container (lol), BUT I was really impressed by my bowl. The sauces are super tasty and you can mix and match a lot of the toppings. I can see myself coming back when I don't have time to cook dinner on weekdays. There are a few tables and chairs, but I order my food to go since the place is pretty small. I do wish they offered a vegetarian/vegan option for protein, such as tofu. So this is the first time I've come back to Hoki Poki in awhile, being the second time I came since the whole COVID situation started. Before, however, I would come here at least once or twice a month while I was in college, because this is honestly one of the best poki places in the Dallas area. But based off of some changes that have occurred here, I felt like I needed to update my review. Two days ago my wife and I went here to grab poke to go, and we got our usual; two regular sized bowls, mine with white rice and hers with a mix of brown rice and lettuce. We also add avocado (an extra dollar each, but this is nothing new) and was a bit surprised to see that masago was now 50 cents extra, when previously it had been 50 cents for a second scoop. Again, though, this wasn't too big of an issue as I can understand why. When everything was finished being put together and we checked out, I was surprised to see that our total for two regular sized poke bowls was 30 dollars! Especially since in the past (with the 10% UTD student discount included) our total would be around 21 dollars for the exact same thing. So what's the big change now? Well, I realized that a regular bowl is now 3 dollars more than what it was last year, despite adding literally nothing new to the bowl and giving us the exact same portions they always have. Now I really do think that Hoki Poki is one of the best places around for quality poke, but after visiting two days ago I'm really unsure of if I will want to go back. The quality is still the same, but I just can't justify a 33% increase on price when, to my knowledge, there is no legitimate reason for it. read more

Really, really good. Coming from a landlocked state, I'd say this place offered some of the best poke I've ever had. Fish tasted and smelled really fresh, I LIKE the spinach salad, sauces were great, and everything named "spicy" was actually spicy. Their portion sizes are nearly double what I've gotten at other places. And they have a fantastic selection of sides, mix-ins and toppings.
