    2 Meat Plate
    Matt A.

This was a truly memorable spot. Showed up on a random Thursday and got a 2 meat plate with Baby back ribs and Brisket. It was cooked beautifully and the bbq sauce options were spot on. For sides, I had mashed potatoes and gravy and Mac and cheese. Both were delicious and worth getting again. Mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy. It was so good, I went back 5 days later and will be returning next week as well. The service was great. The owner remembered me. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy. 10/10

Was passing through coming home from Tahoe and decided to give this spot a try. It was alright. The brisket and pulled pork were both very tender with a good flavor. The ribs were good as well, so I'd recommend those three. The cheddar jalapeño sausage didn't taste that great. I wish there was a char but also the jalapeño (not spice from it) over powered it. I wouldn't order again. I wish the mashed potatoes had brown gravy but either way it was a good side. Corn bread was alright, it had an odd taste to it I couldn't figure out what exactly but didn't have enough of that corn meal flavor possibly. The Mac and cheese was probably the worst. Super super dry with no flavor! I like that they have 3 bbq sauces you can use ranging from original, chipotle and spicy. Without it, I don't think the meal would have tasted that great.

Had to stop by and get the protein in for the morning. Placerville's BBQ style with all the fixings! All the meat slow smoked daily and I could taste it. Service was on point, they initiated right away and made the place feel like home. Food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is clean.

I've been wanting to try this place for over a year now and I finally got a chance to try it. This place was rank the 39th best bbq spot in the country and I can see why now. Let me start of and say that not just the food but also the service is amazing here. I was debating between a 2 meat plate or the angry pit, and the cashier recommended the angry pit, and that sandwich tasted amazing. The bun was perfectly toasted the meat was perfectly seasoned (brisket and pulled pork) and for the sides I got the Mac N Cheese and Mash Potatoes both were outstanding. If your in the area or willing to take a trip out to this place, I would highly recommend one of the best bbq spots in the areas

Hog Wild was featured on the Food Network in 2023. Well deserving!

Updating my review. I recently dropped into Hog Wild BBQ in Placerville, CA. It wasn't my first time and definitely won't be my last. Sure they changed owner in 2018, but the recipes are mainly the same. Still delicious! Plus they added additional desserts. House-made mini pies, cobblers, cakes, and brownies. Yes please. Longtime customers Steve and Mary Fulmer bought Hog Wild in 2018. They kept the tradition of Texas BBQ and majority of the recipes. Heck if it ain't broke, why fix it. They do BBQ right ... slow n low in their wood smoker to get that beautiful bark, deep flavor, and tender moist meats. My fave is the brisket. They smoke the brisket for 16 hours. Oh man, it's delicious. They serve the brisket sliced or chopped. The pulled pork, chicken breast, four kinds of sausages, baby back ribs, and St Louis style ribs are delicious as well. It's Texas BBQ style which is dry smoked and served with sauce on the side. They make their own sauces, they got original, spicy, and chipotle. The sauces don't have HFCS in it. We dropped in on a weekend, about 2:30pm. They close at 5pm on the weekends or until sold out. The hours are painted on their window sign including verbiage stating ... or until sold out. And this place is so popular, they do sell out of a lot of items. It makes sense that they would, since they make fresh almost everything. No freezing stuff for microwaving here. No sir. They were out of sliced brisket, both kinds of ribs, and sides of mashed potatoes, pinto beans, cornbread, and green beans. So we landed on ordering a chopped brisket sandwich with sides of potato salad and coleslaw to share. The staff were awesome. Super upbeat, positive attitude even while dealing with grouchy hangry customers. The chopped brisket had a gorgeous bark, flavorful. Moist smoky brisket. Each table had bottles of BBQ sauce. Original, spicy, and chipotle. I tried all the sauces, all darn amazing. But I made up my own mix of original with a squirt of spicy. Mmm. The coleslaw was tasty as was the potato salad. Tasty but not omg. Odd though, that they didn't provide napkins. The only napkins were the thin flimsy ones in the prepackaged plastic utensil sets provided on each table. For a BBQ joint, outta have more napkins. Speaking about seating, the indoor dining area is limited to about seven 4 seater tables and 4 person bar counter. They have local beers on tap, nice selection. They have an outdoor patio as well, dog friendly.

It's been a few years since I've been here and was finally able to go here again. I told family about this so we decided to stop by here while on the way to apple Hill. My cousin got the sierra sampler since there was a group of us. It was a great amount of food. It comes baby back ribs, spareribs, brisket, and 3 family sized sides (we opted for potato salad, mac and cheese and green beans). The sampler comes with rolls and corn bread as well. I will say the brisket was better the last time I went, but it was still good. It was a lot of food and the 7 of us couldn't finish it, but leftovers are always welcomed.

Time for another update as it has been 2 years since my last one. Still by far the BEST BBQ place around. We don't live in this area, so when we come visit, this is a must do pit stop. We had been thinking about it all week and it did not disappoint!! We always get the Hangtown Sampler because its the best value to try a variety of items. It is now $56... three dollars more than my last review. With that said, its not a cheap meal but you get quality meats and flavors. This time we made an order to go for dinner later. To add, everything is very tender. I have had major dental work after where I can't eat/ chew like I used to so eating has been a challenge in the recent months and was worried that I could not enjoy my meal but none of it hurt my teeth and I was able to chew very easily. I thought ribs would be a thing of my past but not here. Meat feel off the bone. Besides the food being bomb, the owners (I assume) are Very very nice and attentive. They visit with the customers and make sure everyone is taken care of. I always like supporting the small business but even better when they are so very nice. LOVE this place!

I have had my eyes on this BBQ Spot for many years. This past weekend I decided to make the trek from Vacaville to visit this awesome small town BBQ Joint. We arrived at 10:36am - first ones there!!! We had to wait until they opened at 11am which was fine. We ordered the Hangtown Platter with Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Baby Back Ribs. For our sides we selected the Coleslaw, Pinto Beans, and Mac and Cheese. They served our food super fast!! All the sides were good but I particularly liked the Pinto Beans. Very good Ranch Flavor was straight hittin!!! The cornbread was also very good but what made it 5* was the honey butter. Sooo good. They had a Local IPA on tap by Solid Ground Brewing called Kabru available in 16 or 22 oz sizes. It was a very tasty West Coaster at 7.5% They have 3 different BBQ Sauces, Regular, Spicy, and Chipotle. All 3 were flavorful, however, I liked the spicy one the best. I would of liked a little more heat to it but it was fine. Lots of people love them some BBQ and we weren't the only ones who visited for the first time. The place started getting really busy. The ambiance was nice and cozy. The A/C was cranked down and felt really comfortable too.

The family and I decided to take a drive on January 2, since I had the day off. We thought, let's go get some great BBQ. Of course, that means a trip to Hog Wild. Hog Wild always satisfies. Baby back ribs are out of this world! They have 3 delicious sauces you can use for the ribs that are yummy. The original and chipotle are my favs. I personally love the cornbread which is served with butter that is just perfect for spreading on the warm cornbread. The staff is top notch! Hog Wild goes BBQ right!

This bbq joint did not disappoint! It's right off the freeway in Placerville. We stopped in on our way back from Apple Hill on a Sunday. We were lucky as they were closing in an hour. They had four ribs left and they were out of their mashed potato and beans. We took the last four BB (baby back) ribs and there were customers after us who walked out when they found out the ribs were gone. We got the dinner for two and ordered brisket was our other meat choice. We enjoyed the brisket more than the BB ribs although it was very meaty. Our sides were coleslaw, potato salad and bacon Mac n cheese. The sides were ok, it was average. I think we will get the mashed potato's and beans next time. Also, I will definitely ask for more bbq sauce. It came with two little containers and that was not even enough for one person. The place is very casual and cozy with an outdoor patio if you brought your pooch. Highly recommend you give them a try!

We were just coming from Apple Hill, and decided to stop here. I heard they were featured on Food Network's 'Best Bite in Town' and is currently ranked 39th on Yelp for best BBQ in the nation. We went with the Hangtown Sampler; which comes with three meats and three sides which is enough to feed two people. Our meats were smoked brisket, pulled pork, and St. Louis soate ribs; while we went with a Caesar salad, Mac n Cheese, and coleslaw for the side. Our food also came with two nice-sized sweet cornbread muffins. Overall it was great! The brisket was tender with some nice bark on the outside and the ribs had a nice, sweet glaze. The pulled pork was decent though it a little in the dry side. But nothing a little BBQ sauce couldn't fix. The meats were quite amazing and in good portions. The side were wonderful as well. The Mac n Cheese was perfect, and the Caesar salad was spectacular. Like nothing we've ever had before. And I can't forget about how nice staff were to us. They were very nice and courteous, and even made sure I didn't leave my extra cornbread behind by running out to my car lol. They make you feel right at home. Would love to try this place again whenever I'm back in the Placerville area.

I will say this, I am very picky when it comes to a top-tier barbecue restaurant. Having been to Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, and other states were barbecue is king, there just isn't a whole lot of great options in California. So after researching several high rated restaurants in the Sacramento area, I finally narrowed down my selection to "Hog Wild Bar-B-Que". Centrally located in the heart of Placerville, this place sits directly on Main St. and parallel to US-50. I ended up coming here with my lady during the afternoon of Friday 5/16/25 at around 1:45pm. This establishment is easily visible from the street while the parking lot is big enough to accommodate at least a dozen vehicles at any given time. The exterior signage has a vintage look to it with brick red trim and yellow paint that wraps around the main entrance. Once inside, you will see the same brick red trim complete with their wide menu options including all the represented meats, sides, and combo plates. As for the interior atmosphere, they offer a respectable amount of indoor seating (tables for large parties and pub-styled barstools if you wish to dine solo) as this place truly has that BBQ feel to it. You will notice several past and present license plates showcasing the Lone Star State of Texas, a self-serve fountain drink station, and two public restrooms towards the rear of the building. And since the weather was a perfect 81°F afternoon, we decided to take advantage of their outdoor patio (which has a napkin dispenser, plastic cutlery, and their signature BBQ sauces). After reading the reviews that this place serves very sizable portions, my lady and I decided on splitting their "3-Meat Combo Plate" w/two sides. After making the tough decision what to narrow down, we settled with their Tender Beef Brisket, Pulled Pork, and and Chicken Breasts as our meat/protein options as we chose their Kickin' Mac & Cheese and Sweet Cornbread w/Honey Butter as the two sides. We also opt for a fountain drink and two iced waters. Total price after tax (and optional tip) came out to around $36. As I mentioned earlier, we sat outside and our plate was brought out to us in roughly 5 minutes. I will say that this place does not disappoint when it comes to the portions! The brisket here is the real deal and when drizzled with their house made BBQ sauce, every bite was absolutely heaven on earth. The pulled pork also had an excellent well-seasoned taste to it. The chicken, though was just okay and a little bit on the dry side. However, the mac & cheese was excellent while the corn bread was moist and paired up nice with that honey butter. Overall, the plate itself was a 9 out of 10. All in all, "Hog Wild Bar-B-Que" is the real deal. However, they have very limited hours of operation as they are open Wed-Thu 11am-4pm, Fri-Sun 11am-5pm, and closed Mon-Tue. They also do catering and events that serve the entire El Dorado County area as well as Sacramento and even Lake Tahoe. Great service and staff, reasonable prices, and delicious Texas-styled BBQ; what's not to like? Therefore, I am giving this place a unanimous five-star rating.

Solid bbq spot in Placerville, I'd definitely return if I was driving through the town. I was really impressed with the meat, both quality and flavor. I didn't care for any of the sides, which is why I'm docking a few stars. We got the sampler plate for 2, it's about $55. It came with so much food! The baby back ribs were so tender, they fell off the bone and were delicious. The brisket was really delicious, tender and had a nice smoke flavor to it. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was also very tasty. Now, we ordered sides of mac, mashed potatoes, and a house salad. The salad was basic, nothing special. The mashed potatoes literally had 0 flavor, and the gravy didn't help at all. They were also extremely dry. As for the mac, it was very underwhelming and dry, literally no cheese pull at all. Now, the cornbread?? DELICIOUS. I actually ate both pieces that came with our order. I wish the sides were better here, but the meat itself is solid. But, what's a good bbq spot if they don't have good sides? Rating 3.5/5.

He took our drink orders and allowed us some time to decide what to eat. Hubs and I both debated between multiple options- a lot sounded so good- but we both decided on the filet mignon. On the menu, it indicated that the dish comes with a béarnaise sauce; my husband really doesn't care for tarragon so he requested a substitution of their mushroom rosemary sauce instead (which is offered with their ribeye), and they happily obliged. The meal also included Yukon mashed potatoes and veggies. Our food was delivered soon after and I was pleasantly surprised that not only were our steaks still very warm but that they were cooked a perfect medium rare. The quality of the steaks was great, they were nice and thick. The veggies were, for the most part, overdone and a bit soggy, but that's not something that bothers me too much. The potatoes had good flavor but could have used much more milk/cream as they were pretty dry and firm. The experience was a good one and I would definitely return if we lived closer. They had lots of produce and preserved veggies in jars! They also had a sample area where you could try various apples, pickled veggies, fudge and apple cider! We decided to have sweets before lunch and ordered their strawberry ice cream sandwich and strawberry pie! The strawberry ice cream and donut combo was delicious!! We would order it again in a heartbeat! The strawberry pie tasted like it was just strawberry jam as the filling and we didn't really like it much. Their burgers were so delicious and the sauce they offered were so good!! They had a chipotle and BBQ sauce that was so good that we regretted not asking if they sold it there to bring home with us! Can't wait to be back in the fall for more!!

September 20, 2025 - Placerville, CA…read more We came for the handblown glass pumpkin patch and the day's festivities, which were advertised to include free popcorn and live glassblowing demonstrations. Wanting to beat the crowds, we arrived a little before 10 a.m. and found parking quickly after discovering an additional parking lot. I've started a tradition of picking up one glass pumpkin each year, but this time I left with two--thanks to my husband's suggestion. The selection of pumpkins was beautiful, as always. We didn't see the popcorn or the glassblowing demos, though in fairness we may have been too early. Instead, we tried the Pineapple Ginger Hard Cider, which was delicious. Since we didn't want a full pour, we asked about a smaller size. The server showed us a half-glass, which was perfect, but we later realized we'd been charged for a full drink anyway. By the time we left around 10:30, cars were lined up down the road waiting to get into the lot. Parking definitely seemed limited for such a popular event. Judging from the lines outside other Apple Hill venues as well, my advice is to avoid weekends if you can--or at least plan to arrive early.

Caution, though, if you are not somebody who is open-minded with food or a foodie stay away because these sandwiches are different and they're big and they're just amazing

Stopped by this sandwich shop on the way up to Apple Hill. Saw the Yelp reviews and looked…read morepromising. It's basically a walk up in a small plaza with some tables. Cute spot. Definitely good for people watching. Got a couple sandwiches: Banh Mi - seeing the list of ingredients I was excited for this one. Never seen a place use lap chung in banh mi. The sandwich itself was kind of underwhelming. First of all, it's not on a French roll. Because of this, the moisture from the slaw soaked the entire bottom bun, making it difficult to eat. Also, the lap chung was slice into small coin sized pieces, rather than lengthwise, which means it all fell out when you tried to eat the sandwich. All the ingredients inside pretty much masked the taste of the sausage so you really didn't get the taste. I didn't get how this was supposed to be a banh mi. Honey Walnut - this was ok. Kind of standard honey walnut. In theory this sounded great but it's a tad rich and needs something to cut through it. There were a ton of other sandwiches and maybe we should've tried others but for the two we got it was just alright.
