Their grand opening will be tomorrow August 3rd. They had plenty of food items I wanted to try but I settled on the Hog fries. My husband ordered the two item meat combo with pork belly chicarrone & brisket. They have a "Hottie sauce" that was not too spicy but tangy and a "Ruby Sauce". The Mac salad was divine and the rice & beans had a mouthful of flavor. We tried the peach blueberry cobbler. It wasn't horrible but I wasn't impressed by it either. I walked in place. My order to go food was ready in about 10 minutes. Picking up the bag, you feel the heat on the bottom. So it was definitely fresh, got home and plated it for dinner, and can I say? This was absolutely delicious. The brisket is tender. Don't even need a knife it will pull apart. It has a really nice bark on. Very tender and flavorful. The greens were outstanding a nice amount of spice. Absolutely perfect. The beans and rice were very good. I know BBQ is sometimes greasy but there's was overly greasy. Mac and cheese wasn't that good. They serve large portions. So I guess that's ok if you love bbq. The three stars is for the chicharron. Which was the only thing I liked. As far as service this place runs like a fast food bbq. The atmosphere is under stimulating unless you eat outside on the patio I guess. They have an all you can eat on the menu for $40 on Sunday but ordering one platter of food is more than enough if anything. read more

First time trying this new BBQ spot in Henderson. Good experience, since it's new the flow and the staff still seemed to be getting the hang of things. We sat in the bar area and the bartender was super friendly, just seemed a bit new and finding her rhythm. She was doing great trying to provide a full service experience in the bar area, just some of the setup like water etc are across the restaurant so getting easier access for the bar staff would help. For the food we went with the Hog Fries which are the highlight and we will be back just for this dish. Also we got a 2 meat plate with brisket and ribs. As stated the hog fries were spectacular, portion and price were awesome. Speaking of price they are still figuring some stuff out it seems so pricing online and even in recent menu photos on Yelp might be off. The BBQ itself was decent, the rub on the meat was great, the cook itself was good but not great. The meat could have been a bit moister but can't complain much overall. Mac and cheese was great. Two really big misses are the crispy plantains, just hard chips with no real flavor (the ones I got might have been overdone) and the cornbread. I was really looking forward to the cornbread but it was dry and didn't have any flavor. Again maybe I got a bad piece but not sure. This was our first time trying Hog & Tradition and it exceeded all our expectations! We were greeted as soon as we walked into the restaurant and team working was knowledgeable and helpful with the menu and with making recommendations. Overall the food was good. The smash burger, which is not really something that you find at a BBQ was outstanding. The pulled pork is also very good and highly recommended. Came here after our usual Friday night spot was too busy and we had such a great experience! I was happy to walk in and see it fairly busy but the line wasn't long. The cashier and people behind the counter were helpful and kind. After we ordered, the food didn't take too long and, unlike other reviews, everything was warm and seasoned really well!! My husband has tried brisket all over the country and loved it here. I got the ribs and thought they were great. Completely fell off the bone, I was happy I didn't have to eat them with my hands. This use to be the old Skinny Fats restaurant on Stephanie in Henderson. We did not realize it had closed and changed to a BBQ restaurant until we drove by one day. So we decided to give it a try. Restaurant is very clean and painted in a purple motif. Staff is very friendly. Restaurant has a good vibe with island style music playing. Staff came to check on us after our food was served and cleared away our dishes when we were done. They have a separate bar area for 21 and over seating and a variety of picnic tables and regular table seating inside of the restaurant. There is no table service. You stand in line to order your food, they give you a buzzer and buzz you when your order is ready to pick up at a designated area. We arrived just as the restaurant opened for the day. You can order from 3 plate options , 1 meat & 1 side, or 2 meats n 2 sides or 3 meats n 3 sides. They also have a variety of sandwiches and sides to choose from. . We all opted for the 1 meat n 1 side plate & 3 sodas. We had the pulled pork with Mac salad. The pork was served cold, assumed it would have been served hot since the restaurant just opened for the day, the Mac salad was delicious. My husband had the chichirone (sp?) pork and slaw, he said the pork was very greasy. Each bite greased oozed out which gave him an upset stomach. Our granddaughter had the brisket and Mac n cheese. She said both were very good. All 3 plates came with a slice of Ube corn bread smothered with butter, with pickled onions and pickles on the side. They have one central location to get your bbq sauce. Would have been nice to have the bbq sauce placed at each table so you can sample all of them and not have to get up each time from your table. Food portions were very small given the price points and what you get at other bbq restaurants. We are not large people, and when we sat at a picnic table, it creaked like it was going to crack in half. We noticed other people in the restaurant when they sat also seemed Leary that the bench seat was going to crack. All in all, we give it a 4 out of 5. Food was okay, good service and ambiance. The most interesting piece of the combo I got was the chiccarones... Jumbo pork belly pieces smoked then deep fried to perfection. who wouldn't want that? The ribs were really good & for the price was definitely worth it.. my only thing were the sides... Bbq beans were too sweet and the Mac & cheese was dry slightly and bland... VERY disappointing. I learned AFTER by visiting their website that it is "Dominican" based. Wish that would have been on their marquee--would not have chosen to stop here. Was skeptical walking in when there were just three cars in the parking lot on a Saturday afternoon. Wife and I love barbecue and were in the area and wanted to try. She was "OK" with it---I did not like it at all. Absolutely not worth the price ($45 for us both). That is in line with pricing at two other local barbecue places (Big B's Texas BBQ and Bell's BBQ) but not even close to either of them on selection or taste. I typically get a two-meat plate with sides at the other places mentioned above but here the meat and side choice was limited and somewhat unappealing, so I got the Brisket Grilled Cheese. It was OK---but absolutely not worth $16. I had a taste for cornbread and thankfully I didn't order a side--my wife said she didn't want hers. The Ube Cornbread was nasty. At least offer the normal version too. I'd have been ticked had I paid for side order of it. Wife had the Brisket plate and said it was OK but not as good as Big B's which we had just eaten the week prior. If you want great BBQ in the Henderson area I definitely would recommend Big B's or Bells instead of this. Clearly with only three cars on a Saturday afternoon this place is not popular, and I would expect it to last about as long as Skinny Fats did. I read and article where the owner/chef (Geoff) said he used to cook traditional BBQ but switched it up because it was boring. Well...the other two "boring" places are always busy. Your location was not busy at all. Maybe not everyone--but I believe most people--when they want BBQ food---want good old traditional BBQ food. Not this stuff. I told my wife while we were eating, I could see Gordon Ramsay coming in and getting the purple "ube" corn bread and asking, "what in the bloody hell is that" and spitting it out. There was an advertisement on the door for weekly trivia--lol when a restaurant has to resort to "trivia night" to attract customers---that might be a sign that youre not doing good business. The food should be why people come to your restaurant NOT trivia night. read more
