We walked in and were greeted by the lady at the counter. She was friendly enough and took our order: the kalbi katsu chicken combo and the kalua pork katsu combo. We paid, and she told us to grab a seat, she'd bring the food out to us. Nice touch. We sat down; one TV had audio on, the other was muted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music was okay but a bit too loud for easy conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our plates arrived looking decent at first glance. The kalbi was solid, and the portions seemed promising. The katsu was average. But that chicken... and that kalua pork? I was hoping for authentic Hawaiian-style food after living there for 9 years. My taste buds straight-up rebelled. I couldn't even finish my meal after biting into that rubbery chicken and the bland, parboiled pork drowned in liquid smoke flavoring. We decided to box up the leftovers to take home, but it took my wife calling out multiple times to the lady--who was just 3 feet away--to get her attention. She was glued to her phone and only turned around after the door chimed for someone else. Finally, we got our to-go containers. We won't be returning. This place is a slice of heaven not only because the food is delicious but because of how welcoming they are upon arrival, they explain everything to a T when indecisive on what to order. They have such a large selection so there's a little bit of everything!!! When eating a good meal the drink part is impotent and they have a large selection for every body :) read more

Kalbi ribs, chicken Katsu, and Chicken Teriyaki were amazing! The ribs have to be my favorite! I like that the portion size was big! The lumpia is amazing too! Four stars instead of five because I paid extra for double mac portion and it was really gross. Warm and tasted like crab? I threw it out. Also, in my katsu I kept getting little pieces of bone? I wanna like this place but 3 stars is good enough. Food is really good, I have to admit. Their chicken katsu was not thick with the fried battered. It just enough. Enjoyed the meats! We have the beef, chicken and Mac salad. All great. Plenty of parking in the front. We came on a Wednesday at noon and no issues with parking. Plenty of tables to pick from and enjoy their food in the restaurant. When we walked in, very strong cleaning smell. It's a good thing that the place is clean but threw us off a bit. Service was a bit unfriendly. What you want, you order, you pay and sit down until your name is called. Not much of inviting pleasantries for sure. Pricing is a bit higher than the other Hawaiian food spot off of Galleria. Urrrghh, would I return, not sure for this one. Stopped in for some lunch with a friend as we were craving Hawaiian food. I heard this was an Aloha Kitchen but changed its name. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside decor was nice with all the bamboo deco and all the Honu (turtles) on the wall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The lady at the counter was nice and we placed our order. My friend had the bento plate and I had the island plate. My friend liked her plate, she enjoy the mahi mahi . My chicken katsu was good but I didn't care for the teriyaki chicken or the beef. The chicken was fatty and I think it was dusted with flour. The teriyaki beef was tough and chewy. There was also a gravy over both the chicken and beef that I didn't care for. I ate mostly the Mac salad with my side of kimchi, and the katsu. The rest I let my friend take home. Not my favorite place but I hope if you come here that you have a better experience. I had been wanting to try this place for a minute since it's next door to a Rubio's I frequent. I went last night and was immediately drawn to the tempura and teriyaki chicken combo. It was around $16 after tax. It came with white rice and a side of macaroni salad. I wish I had the option to sub the macaroni salad out for something else since I don't consume dairy, but no biggie. The tempura came with a dipping sauce that reminded me of dumpling sauce. Very tasty. The vegetable tempura was my fave because it was very flavorful and it was fried mixed veggies as opposed to just one vegetable. The chicken was good, but I wish the portions had been larger. The shrimp tempura was good too and what you would expect. I'll be back since the prices were good and there's more on the menu I want to try. read more

We usually order from this location as we love Hawaiian food and it's close by. We have never been inside only ever done delivery so I can't comment on customer service or inside the building. Food is good, I do wish they followed instructions better but seems to be a trend. (Cutting the chicken tiny instead of huge long strips). Not a deal breaker. I came through about 6 months ago and ordered the banana pancakes and longanisa, and they were both really good. Ordered from there again this visit, and the pancakes were just not as flavorful. There was no banana, more like banana bread pancakes, and the texture was drier, and the vanilla sauce didn't do much to help. The longanisa was still good, sweet and not overly greasy. I also wish they'd give a choice of Hawaiian Sun on Uber Eats. The passionfruit was good, but the pineapple orange was overly sweet for my taste. read more

Everything was either old tasting, or burnt and the portions were weirdly small for the price point. Just plain awful. I don't know what happened, or if owners or cook changed, but quality went downhill hard! Ordered the Aloha Plate. The teri beef was some crappy chuck or something that was boiled or marinated to make it tender. It was cut closer to half inch thick pieces and swimming in a terrible teriyaki sauce. The teri chicken was old or frozen too long, not cooked well, and generally tasteless. Mac and rice was nothing special. *The chicken katsu was decent though. Pounded a little too thin, but cooked well, and crunchy. The super tiny katsu sauce was way too little. My kids said the spam musubi was swimming in crappy teri sauce and kinda gross and soggy. Bottom line. Not coming back. This is NOT Hawaiian plate lunch. This is someone that is obviously not from Hawaii, and has never had a plate lunch there. Looking for a place to grab some lunch, we drove to Thelma's Filipino Restaurant, only to find that they are closed on Tuesdays due to staffing shortages. Went to the other side of the building, and went to Aloha Sunset Cafe. Perised the menu really quick, and saw all the food we love from back in Hawaii. We ordered the Kalbi Short ribs, a bento box, and garlic chicken with gravy. First, the young lady at the counter, was very sweet, and saw that she is a very hard worker. She takes the orders, and personally delivered each order to the customers. Then, she was cleaning up, very dedicated! The Kalbi was really tasty and tender, very good. The bento box, very good, the teriyaki beef was very tender and tasty, the BBQ chicken was good too. The garlic chicken was not what I was expecting. It did come with 3, nice pieces of boneless chicken thighs, but it didn't taste of garlic, and didn't taste like it was seasoned, very plain. The gravy was on the bland side as well. Just needs some tweaking on this one, but potentially, can be a winner. read more

We come to this place so much that I'm surprised I haven't left a review yet. The food is of course incredible. We're from Hawaii so we crave local food a lot. This place literally has everything we crave and it made we'll too. I have to highlight their saimin and chicken katsu!! It's perfect. The cashier/server is always so sweet. She's works quickly and efficiently. I applaud her because she always works so hard. Be nice to her when you order ok. If you choose to eat in they always have local music playing which makes it very nostalgic and sometimes homesick lol. This place is great. There was only one other customer eating inside when i got there but two others were in picking up their orders. It's a friday in the middle of the day so the fact that it seemed slow didn't seem worrisome. To my surprise, the sausage was in the form of patties. The patties didn't taste bad, it just didn't taste like portuguese sausage to me. The portions were great. The sunny side up eggs were perfect.. But the place smelled unclean. The table i was on was sticky and the booth i sat on felt sticky too. The bathroom was not the worst i've used in a restaurant but it could definitely use some more cleaning. But unfortunately the overall experience was not very satisfying. With the number of hawaiian restaurants in this town, improvements have to be made to bring able to compete. The service was excellent, however. I think that if they worked on improving, they could potentially be more popular especially in that area of Henderson where there sre not that many other places to get Hawaiian food. read more

January 1, 2023 - We were looking for somewhere to eat dinner, and I wanted Beef. Customer Service is always wonderful here. We usually order they same things every time we come, but today we all decided to order something different. The food is always good. They did have some new items like the cheese stick and fish and cheese stick, which was enjoyed. I liked it but for me the corn batter was on the sweeter side. It was still good and I would order it again. I liked that you could choose between Macaroni Salad or Kim Chee. And both my son and I was in the mood for Kim Chee, so happy that was an option. Fish and Chips, Pork Adobo those were both enjoyed. I had Beef Teriyaki and I was glad I tried something different today. I have had this place twice in the past week. Both orders placed for kalua pork & chicken katsu combo. My first time was via delivery from Grubhub. Although the delivery lady was extremely late with my order, the food held it's quality. Second time, I dined in for lunch. Obviously the food was better freshly prepared. The kalua pork was absolutely fantastic. It had the perfect ratio of kalua and cabbage. You can really taste the smoky-ness in the meat, which to me, was the icing on top. Chicken katsu was great as well. It was cooked perfectly, both times. With just the right amount of chicken and perfect amount of batter. This restaurant is located on the intersection of Sunset and Marks, by Sunset station. It's a small family owned, Hawaiian-filipino inspired facility. Apologies but this is brutal. Don't waste your money here. I have had many a Hawaiian plate lunch but this is definitely not it. (In all fairness I was 20 mins later than expected to pick up my order however 20 mins should not have affected anything but temperature). Beef was hard, flavorless and inedible. The pork seems undercooked so i didn't chance it and the teriyaki sauce is...well it is not. It is gelatinous with no flavor. The only thing reminiscent of an actual Hawaiian plate lunch were the rice and mac salad. When I drove up to the restaurant I was hesitant at first because I noticed a new sign that said Aloha Sunrise Cafe, but then it said "same menu, under new management." Inside looks exactly the same as Aloha Kitchen. Same menu and same taste. There are plenty of items on the menu and I have not tried anything here that I did not like. I'm assuming with the new management the food should be the same because they kept the same menu. For me, the food is always consistently good, portions are reasonable, and the staff always friendly.
