So unique and so good! It was worth waiting around 15 minutes for 15 pieces! It tastes better fresh. Although, when i waited hours later to eat a few, they still tasted creamy but not as crumbly of course. It was still a pleasure to eat. I visited right when they opened at 11 am on Sunday and we werent the only ones piling in to give them a try. They got a little busier as the minutes went by. They have 6 different flavors - red bean paste, matcha custard, choco custard, white bean paste, custard cream, and pastry red bean. Unfortunately they did not have pastry red bean available quite yet but that will be a flavor i will try next time. All tasted true to each of their name. All sweet with some containing walnuts, adding an extra bit of crunch to the outer shell. Wish we had our own at home but i am bookmarking this place as a MUST visit when i come back to Vancouver.

Went there at 11am. I ordered a mix of 6 pcs original & matcha Walnut cake balls. Since they were just opened for the day, I had to wait for a while (around 15 mins). When I finally got my hot walnut cake, the cashier gave me extra for having to wait - which I appreciated so much. The warm walnut cake balls were delicious! The cake texture was similar to pancake - soft & airy. The custard inside had the perfect sweetness & creamy. I prefer the original but my brother likes the matcha more. It is dangerously yummy and I could eat lots of them!

Very small establishment but I highly recommend it. The inside is very clean but there isn't a lot of seating - it's more of a grab-and-go place. I got 5 pieces to go and you choose a mix of different pieces of the same price. You have to wait around 5-7 minutes for them to be made. I've never had something like this before and I was quite impressed! It was the perfect amount of sweetness. Warning that the fillings are incredibly hot when fresh so I'd wait a couple of minutes before digging in. My favourite flavour's the white bean. Would definitely come back if I find myself in the area again.

I went here for snacking last week. I'm so glad this place exists since I was a huge fan of Hodugwaja (walnut cakes) growing up. Hodugwaja is a widely sold Korean snack at highway food vendors in Korea. It's quite a popular winter snack like Bungeoppang. I was super excited stopping by here. Walnut cakes were freshly made by the owner. I ordered 15 pcs with ($11, mixture of cream, red bean and white bean) a cappuccino ( $3). My mouth couldn't stop munching because there was more than one sample. The owner was super generous giving me samples after 5PM. Tried white walnut cake, choco chip sour cream cookie, and some cookie. I forgot what it was called. The treats here were so amazing. The owner played an awesome magic to make fantastic Korean snacks. Sesame cookie was super yummy. It also had bits of sour cream in it too. It was nutty and creamy and yet not too sweet. I shared the rest with my family. Walnut cakes were amazing like the original ones from Chun An. Chun An is famous for Hodugwaja and you know this if you grew up in Korea. Cookies are bit expensive, but it was worth buying my snacks here. I'll go back whenever I miss eating Korean snacks.

Nice little place with friendly service. Walnut cake balls taste really good. If you like less sweet, I recommend whole bean paste (my favorite). If you like sweeter creamy texture, I commend white or red bean paste. If you only like super sweet deserts (HFCS added stuff) without no flavor, you may be disappointed. I will have to try the matcha next time.

Korean walnut cake ball place across from Tinseltown. Parking there sucks. What can I say. Metered spots in front, or one can try to use the Tinseltown lot. So I wasn't sure what to expect with these things. They look cute for sure. Just like golf ball sized acorns. Similar to bubble waffles. The filling isn't too sweet if one only has 1 or 2. I couldn't get past 5. Neither could my friends. Unless it's for a party, get the smaller box. As of the time of writing, they are available in boxes of 7, 15, and 32. All criticism aside though, these things aren't greasy at all, which is nice. it's a good choice for those with a sweet tooth. Kind of glad I tried it, but personally I'd stick to bubble waffles as they're less sweet.

Friendly little shop with yummy treats! The filling wasn't too sweet, and the waffles had great texture. It's so delicious when it's fresh and warm.

5 stars all around!!!! Their walnut cakes are AMAZING!!!! I wish this was in Calgary! We came right at opening to grab some snacks before flying back home. Unfortunately, they did not have the matcha or the chocolate custard flavour available at that time. We would of had to wait 30 minutes for it. Therefore, we ordered the green bean, white bean and custard flavors. They were absolutely delicious. For reference, if you want to try all their flavors, come later on in the day. Will be back for sure to try the matcha and chocolate.

I was initially attracted to Hoduya because of their clean and minimalist interior. This was my first time trying Korean walnut cakes and I was certainly impressed. I got 7 of their cream fillings and they are always made fresh to order. I only wished I ordered more!

My friend introduced me to this place for Korean walnut cake. I've never had one before so I wasn't sure what to expect. You can get 7 for $5 which is a great deal for a snack! They have red bean or custard flavour available. You can definitely taste the walnut in these and some have small walnut bits. The red bean ones were a bit dense for me and I preferred the custard ones more since the filling was a bit lighter but it wasn't like an oozy type of custard. I think overall I thought the outside of the cake was more dense than I expected. I probably thought they might've been lighter more like ... cream puffs? based on the shape.

Small little place I came across after my run today! I just went in to grab some walnut cakes and left! But there is limited seating (3 chairs) bar table style. There is no free parking but plenty of paid street parking. These walnut cakes are SO GOOD and SO CUTE. They come in 4 flavours: - Red Bean - Custard - Red Bean Matcha - Custard Matcha I ordered 15 pieces for $10.50 and got an assortment of all flavours. The worker there told me that Red Bean is their most popular! While this was very good, I personally enjoyed the custard the most. Not too sweet and was fluffy in the inside. The texture of these cakes reminded me of egg waffles - but different! Unfortunately when I ordered my cakes, they were already pre-made. Don't get me wrong, they still tasted very good. However, if you have leftovers to take home and you want a crispy outside, I definitely recommend popping them into the oven to crisp them up! Would definitely come again if I'm around the area!!

Korean walnut cakes being freshly made is one of the most exciting things! The moment you walk in you can smell the sweet fragrance of the pastry being made. I tried the original with red bean and custard flavours and really enjoyed the red bean one. I would have liked the custard one to be creamier for my own personal preference but it was still good. The custard one didn't seem to have walnuts inside, so it seems only the red bean paste flavour comes with a piece walnut. Overall their walnut cakes are good. I found it slightly on the sweeter side.

Usually for last few years I've been ordering from Esther at Dipnsip & Unni Pastries. I was…read morereferred at my friend's wedding as I was looking for cakes and pastries for in-laws. Well it seems ownership has changed and the new owner doesn't give two craps about prior customers, honoring discounts, replying back timely or being more friendly? Was playing email tag and finally submitted the 39 flavors and didn't hear back until after another week and then told they won't deliver only in morning when they know our reservation was for 730pm and they're open until 9? I even replied back and nothing. We own and run several business in lower mainland and in United States and this customer service from Unni Pastries is trash. At least you can do is reply back and apologize? For wasting time when I specifically told you it's for family and friends flying into town for a funeral burial. Will never use their business again. I highly suggest Mello. They replied and helped me out last minute. Shame on you! Learn how to run a business and treat customers esp previous customers who were supporting the business and fellow Krn but it's clear the new owner doesn't care about the customer or quality it's all about quantity. Maybe my 39 donuts which I offered to pay extra for time and packaging wasn't large enough but money is money. Especially during this time and economy. You should've at least replied back and even tried asking us to do pickup as the restaurant is down the road. Do better! Go to Mello which isn't too far and they bake fresh daily better pricing and reviews and consistency!
