OK, I really wanted this to be a good review because she was a nice lady, but I'm gonna have to be completely honest here. The experience was subpar for $260!! I felt like there was little regard to a peaceful environment as the aesthetician was having a conversation with somebody during the service. There was not enough set up in terms of preventing my clothing from getting stained or removing my jewelry, she just did the mask around it, and when I left, I had a lot of mask still on my shoulders and in my ears. There were several points in the service where product would get into my eyes and burn, and caused blurry vision. I personally felt like the extractions were not done well, and one of the holes in my skin will scar. I would not recommend and I will not be returning. read more

I truly enjoyed my time here, and didn't feel like I was in a busy medspa type of environment, it was quiet and serene. I had a really important exam to take last Friday and thought last minute that I should try to get a relaxing massage to calm my nerves. Knowing that I was calling the day of, I didn't expect anyone to take me, but Hoboken Wellness was able to fit me in for a session later in the day. I've never gotten a massage before but due to stress and nonstop studying for months, I knew my neck and shoulders needed some work. I told this to Mandeep (I think this was her name please correct me if not!) and she worked on those problem spots really well. She also found a lot of tension in muscles I didn't even realize I was straining and overworking lol. She was so great, super easy to talk to, and gave me that little push of motivation before my exam. The massage was so relaxing that I was exhausted at a decent time that night and well rested the next day. I was anticipating being sore since she really worked out those muscles, but I was surprised that the soreness wasn't anything noticeable that made taking a 6 hour exam uncomfortable. Had my first massage EVER here (aside from lackluster back massages from my SO) It's located in the Citadel building in Hoboken. Ambiance isn't the best ever, but I can tell they did the best they could with the space-- maybe could use a little updating. Kate was my massage therapist, she made it a great first experience (and didn't make fun of me when she found me laying facedown on the table ABOVE the blanket, looking way dumber than I intended..). I got a 60 minute deep tissue-- I think she might have gone even longer than that! I almost fell asleep it was so peaceful. They play nice meditation music throughout the service. I visited the spa for the first time over the weekend for a 60 minute couple's massage. Came across the spa on the Spafinder website since I had a $100 spafinder gift certificate I wanted to use and there are only a few massage centers in Hoboken that accept them that also do couple's massages in the same room (Health in Hands spa offers couples massages in separate rooms??). I ended up calling them to book the appointment since I wasn't sure of the gender of the masseuse's on the website and I wanted to request a male & a woman. Even though they took the request over the phone, they made a mistake booking and we had two female masseuses. The facility is located within the Citadel building in the basement level. I'd rate the ambiance a 5 or 6/10 - the space is a bit dated and could use some sprucing up and a deep clean. The staff there were very friendly and welcoming - they wished me and my boyfriend a happy anniversary. We both were pleased with our massages and found it to be very relaxing. It is on the pricier side - $266 for the massage + tax (then gratuity on top of it). Not sure if I'd book here again since there are other facilities closer to my apartment that are similarly priced, however, I have nothing overly negative to say about this place. read more

I've had several massages from different places and have never walked away with the results that I experienced after my massage at Hoboken Wellness. However, my massage at Hoboken Wellness Spa was a week ago and I've yet to have tension return to the area. Ray did a fantastic job. I booked my fiance and I a Valentine's Day couple's massage with Brenda and Mandy and we were both so impressed that we asked for a membership. If you're into a massage where they hit all your knots and really go deep dive, this is it. I received a massage at this location back in December. It was the most inappropriate massage I have ever had. The therapist first asked if I wanted my butt massaged, which I should have seen as a red flag from the beginning (as this has never happened any other time, at any other place. It only got worse from there. I left this review with the owner, who said this therapist will no longer be working at the location. I just checked, and he is still there. I would rate this place 3.5. I went here to get a facial and microdermabrasion using a Groupon. They offer a number of services including Ayurvedic treatments, massages, facials, threading/waxing. I made the appointment over the phone, and it was quick and easy. They send email reminders before your appointment which is nice if you're the forgetful sort. The entrance to the spa was a little hard to find, it's from the door marked "Girls". The reception area was nice. The receptionist( who's also the owner I believe) was very polite and courteous. The facial was good, the aesthetician checked out my skin and listened to my concerns. They supposedly use natural products,all I would say is that the products smelt great and didn't make me break out. My skin felt nice after the facial and much clearer after the extractions. Why 3.5 and not the full 4? I would have liked a longer neck and shoulder massage. Most other places include that with the facial. Also the treatment room felt clinical, a warm ambience would have felt more relaxing. For the price I paid, I was fully satisfied with the service. I scheduled a brazilian wax appointment. I used to go to red door spa in manhattan & would spend about $90 for a wax. Hoboken wellness spa is a lot cheaper ($45) and uses hard wax & paper strip to remove the wax. It wasn't painful & the spa is very clean. Will be coming back in the near future. read more

They RUINED my face! I will start by saying, I have had this treatment done twice previously, once with laser at a dermatologist, and once with cryo freezing at a different spa, and I have NEVER had such deep scarring, swelling, and oozing, nor scars remaining this long following the treatment. This is not normal! Because I had the treatment done previously, I very naively signed the waver saying I understood the process, though NO ONE actually explained the process prior to the procedure. Furthermore, I was not even asked which areas I wanted treated before we began. I had to stop before I laid on the table and say, " Can I show you what I want done?". And yet, even after explaining that I only wanted treatment on some light freckling and small sun damage splotches under my eyes and on my cheekbones, she proceeded to zap all over my face. Areas were treated that weren't even sun damaged. She zapped small blemishes that were healing, and a chicken pox scar, among other random places, and I now have dark red divots in my skin in all of those areas. I am including photos of my skin prior to treatment, two photos of my face as of today, along with photos the day after and 2 weeks after the treatment. You can see that all of the marks on my face today correspond to the treated areas from the photos that I took two weeks after treatment. I followed all of the care rules post treatment, and once the scabs fell off, I've been applying vitamin E oil and fresh aloe to my face daily in an attempt to minimize these scars. I will also mention that my eye became swollen the morning after treatment, directly under a treated area, which, when I called I was told is not a normal after effect of the treatment, and it must have swelled for some other reason, but clearly it is related. After 3 days of the eye swelling, and some of the spots starting to ooze yellow, I saw a Dr and was prescribed antibiotics, which is the only thing that brought down the swelling. I am extremely extremely disappointed, and upset. My skin is ruined. The marks left from the treatment look worse that the sun spots did to begin with. Now that I see that other clients have had the same issue with not being informed prior to treatment, and are having to deal with subsequent scarring, I ask that you not call me offering free treatments or facials. I ask that you come up with a solution. People shouldn't have to pay to see Drs and Dermatologists, and get antibiotics and prescription scar creams out of their own pocket because of your negligence. read more

My brother decided to surprise me with a massage for my birthday and I definitely enjoyed it. This is a mom and daughter owned and managed business. They were very sweet and friendly and it did not feel like a business transaction at all. They even offered me and my brother a free mini 20 minute facial. I never thought I would get a facial in my lifetime but it definitely left my face feeling fresh and clean. I didn't realize how many black heads I had. Now for the massage, where do I start. It started with her asking the areas I would like for her to concentrate on. I had her focus on my back and neck area. She got out some nods I had, probably due to stress. The massage was very relaxing and almost put me to sleep. The only small complaint I initially had was our facial/massage started a bit late. However, I didn't care since as I mentioned the mom and daughter were very sweet people and took great care of us. Be prepared to talk they are very friendly lol. While visiting the area, I got a living social for the Hydrafacial, and Surrinder (the owner) exceeded my expectations. She was very accommodating and flexible with scheduling, and overall just very personable. Makes me wish i lived around here, i'd come at least monthly. After a couple of rescheduling issues I finally showed up for my much anticipated Marma Therapy at Hoboken Wellness last week. I found the place easily and the location is easily accessible. First off, let me tell you that Marma is not a massage (darn!), but more of a relaxing therapy with one aim - stress busting. Was it successful? Read on... I've never heard of this therapy before reading about it on the Hoboken Wellness website and was excited to try it. It's an ancient Ayurvedic technique that uses oil to calm the body and balance the pulse. My esthetician was Suri who is also the owner of the spa. She and her daughter are both very hospitable and warm and as soon you walk into the space they make you feel comfortable. I don't know about you, but I'm very anxious when I go to a new spa/salon for the 1st time and don't know what to anticipate. The treatment: The therapy started with Suri applying Ayurvedic oil to the body - if you're the icky sort you won't like this as even the neck and hair will have oil by the time you're done. This took a good 30 minutes. It's important to stress that the application is really gentle and not a massage....she did gently massage my arms but that's it. Now comes the tricky and unusual part. After the oil treatment is done, Suri pitched a tent on over my body through which she gave a steam treatment...it sounds complicated but it was not - it was a like a facial for the body. After approximately 20 minutes Suri switched off the steam machine. She got me a glass of water and left the room advising me to take my time and get dressed...no rush. Couple of things why this is a 4 star review and not a full 5 star one: * The treatment ended abruptly and I was quite clueless about when we were done. Would be great if they would take you through the steps before hand so you know what to expect. * I know this is not a massage therapy but it would be nice to get a neck, shoulder and scalp massage while you are getting the steam treatment. In fact I would call it a MUST HAVE. By the time the treatment ended my body was literally screaming for a massage & a nice scalp massage while would have made wonders and taken this treatment to an entirely next level. * Would be great if they offered a hot towel to wipe of the sweat at the end of the treatment. Or offered the use of the shower. The treatment room had a rest room and shower cubicle inside it (both very clean) - so I am guessing the option is available if you want it. Since the body heats up during MARMA and once the steam is switched off, you start feeling cold and start perspiring, at the very least a hot towel is again an essential. I asked Suri if I should wipe down, but she suggested keeping the oils as they were beneficial and recommended showering after a few hours... however you leave feeling oily and a tad unsatisfied with the end of the session. * I bought an Amazon Local deal ($45) for this treatment and I felt it was worth for the price. At the full price $165, I'm not so sure I would recommend as even though it's a unique experience, once would expect a full massage or something extra at that price point. The verdict: Over all, yes the Marma therapy was relaxing and I enjoyed the session which approximately lasted 50 minutes. Suri is an excellent therapist and I would love to go back to try some of the other services. read more

After my less than stellar first experience, the owner suggested I try their facial rejuvenation procedure, which is available at amazon local for $39. The procedure was great. Started with a hot towel. Then what I think was ultrasound gel was applied to my face and micro electric current was used to make me look fab. After completing one pass over my entire face, I received a gentle face massage. Then the gel/electric current was repeated. Finally, another hot towel to close it out. Afterward, I looked pretty amazing. Skin time even, fine lines reduced. No joke. I was looking at that machine, trying to figure out the manufacturer so I can look up the data, but who needs data when you look this great? Bought a 3 procedure package. Yeah, it was that good. Was also told they are interviewing to hire a masseuse to improve the quality of the massage services. I love the intimate, one-on-one experience of this spa. I first visited this spa pursuant to a Living Social promotion as it was local and affordable. I had the Brazilian wax procedure..yikes. While it is somewhat painful, Surrender (the mom of the mother/daughter duo) performed the procedure. She was very patient, professional and extremely personable. That is such an intimate procedure to have done that you want to feel truly comfortable with the person doing the procedure and that she made me feel. Note: I previously got my waxes done at European Wax Center and while I love the wax and process they use they were not consistent as far as the technician who would be doing your wax. It seemed like every time I went there was a new person performing my wax. Hoboken Wellness has a small staff so you will always get your same person, in my case the owner, Surrender. She is very calming and very talkative which is great as it keeps me distracted and calm. We talked about a range of topics from family, culture, economy, careers, etc. I highly recommend this place. They are very flexible with appointments, call you back promptly if you leave a message and offer a personalized experience. Found an hour long couples massage deal on groupon for 150 (192 w/ tax) for my boyfriend and I. I made the appointment through groupon during the week for that following Saturday afternoon. On Saturday morning I called to confirm my appointment and they said I never called to confirm- which I wasn't aware I needed to do but they were cool about it and told us to come on in anyway! The ladies were both really nice- we had to fill out some simple paperwork beforehand- pretty standard. The massage was okay- at times I felt like she just put a ton of lotion on her hands and was just rubbing it in. They also are a two-women show...which is cool but we had two interruptions during our massage which isn't very relaxing in my opinion. My aesthetician, Surinder, was very nice and explained the differents things she was putting on my face (I don't get facials often so I need explanations). I really loved the fact that she was not trying to sell me any products like most facial places do. The whole experience was very relaxing and enjoyable. I definitely walked away with baby smooth skin that day. I am writing this post 5 weeks after my experience at Hoboken Wellness Spa. I waited because I really did want to give them the benefit of the doubt and see how my face healed. However, I am still EXTREMELY UPSET and mortified over my experience. I signed up for a 60 Minute basic facial. I had never been to this spa before, but it had generally good reviews so I trusted it. When I get there, I tell the woman that my biggest complaint is my acne around my chin. She says "I will clean your skin and then you will come back in a month and get a facial" I was confused at this point , not sure what "cleaning" meant, but again I trusted her and agreed. Then, she starts taking a needle to my face. It was more painful than any other facial technique I've experienced so I asked "what are you doing, are you doing extractions?" . After the third needle she said (exact words) "Do you have a boyfriend? Don't be alarmed it might look like you got into a cat fight tomorrow " at this point I was VERY confused. Long story short it looked like I had disgusting chicken pox for 2 WEEKS and she did a procedure called "skin Classic" to me without educating me on the process, it's consequences, it's outcomes, or her experience in doing the procedure . I called back the next day telling her all of this and how upset I was. Yes she offered me a free service, but I can never trust going back. When I called again, she promised it wouldn't scar "just give it a month" I'm at 5 weeks and still have big pink (scars?) on my face. I am still mortified by this experience and am very upset my my appearance and hope no one goes through this again. I received a hydrofacial this past Friday at Hoboken Wellness Spa. I booked it last minute online and it was confirmed quickly. Surry, the owner, performed the facial and was amazing. I really liked that she explained each step of the process and made sure I was comfortable throughout. Additionally, she gives one heck of a massage and I'll definitely be going back for that. I was also pleased that this wasn't a rushed procedure as it can be 25 minutes at some places - I was there for a good 45 min at least. I went to the spa for a 'skin classic' for a skin irregularity. The lady who done by treatment was so lovely and welcoming and also fitted me in 20mins early. The space is very hygienic and clean (showed me the new needle being used) and because it's not a huge salon, I felt very well looked after and appreciated as a customer. The skin classic procedure was very short (a little painful) but very effective, recommend it. I also found it very reasonably priced. Went for a facial for my first time. Disappointed in yelps misleading high ranking. Facial was not good and she destroyed my face zapping my eyelids (not supposed to zap that part of skin!) and taking a needle to my moles and freckles calling them brown spots like whiteheads and blackheads. She tried to extract my moles and freckles like you would a zit. I've had to treat my face with Neosporin hoping the places she dug into my skin do not scar my face. Very disappointed. read more

I was looking for a location in Hoboken because I've been recently hired in town but don't know too much about it so as my nature I turn to Yelp. Hoboken Wellness salon had good reviews so why the heck not! I go to their website to check it out. I saw that there was online booking, cool! I book, there isn't an option to pay in office, which is what I prefer but I wanted to get my eyebrows threaded that day and whatever saved my spot. The place was a little difficult to understand. It seems to be a converted school or something. There were many hallways. I didn't know which entrance to go in, so once I was in I was guessing and trying to read signs. When I get into the proper office, the technician was very pleasant but at the end of the appointment I was not please with the outcome of the service. As soon as she finished I noticed that there was something off. But I was already itching to get home so I didn't fuss there. I get home and realize why I wasn't pleased - my eyebrows were crooked, one was much thicker than the other as well as different angles. I had asked for a soft angle that wasn't too thin, and the outcome was not that. There were hairs that could have been cleaned up much better. I had to spend more time to fix what I paid someone else to do. So not only did I waste money, I wasted time. Now my new morning routine involves filling in my eyebrows because one is noticeably thicker and the other is a different angle than the other. Then there was a cleanliness issue- on the surface it seems nice but when you get into the smaller rooms they seem to be not so clean. I noticed that the sticks were still in the wax. I'm so happy that I didn't get waxed here. I should have left immediately after I saw that but because the online booking system forced me to pay instead of just booking then I didn't want to be out of money.
