I just had the *best* massage here, and I was shocked at how low the cost was. The place is pretty no-frills. The lady who did my massage spoke very very little English. If I had something in particular that I needed or was worried about, I doubt I'd be able to really convey it. But dang do I feel amazing after just 30 minutes... My shoulders and neck were very tight, and she found this very quickly and went to town. She asked if I was okay a few times because she was using a lot of pressure. I told her to keep it up! Complaint Yesterday, I had 60 min massage at 6:15pm with a male masseuse, Sam. Everything was going fine up untill he asked me to turn which I did. As I was lying on my back he asked if I want my face massaged and I said "yes" ( he pointed to face and said "okay"). He proceeded to massage and them without no warning he went under the sheet and started massaging my breasts. It was not around the breasts it was full on (handful) massage of both breasts. I was shocked and froze. When he was done he went back to my face and then suddenly went to massage my both breasts for another full minute. At that point my sheet cover fell completely down and I was exposed. I was so shocked and did not know what to do. When he stopped he went to massage my shoulder and then again went for breasts when I started to pretend I have cough attack and he stopped. Seconds after massage was over I payed, tipped and left. This morning I consulted with couple of female friends, massage therapists etc and I was right this was not normal massage and I didn't consent to have my breasts massaged! Pretty much the worst massage I've ever received. Nothing about it was relaxing or felt good. From the beginning the staff couldn't understand what I said. Although many people find a really deep massage enjoyable, I don't. I tried to express this to my masseuse (how does anyone know the name of their masseuse here? Mine didn't introduce herself) but she didn't even understand even after I tried to demonstrate what I was talking about. Additionally, I left my underwear on. At one point during the massage the woman pulled them down. It made the rest of the massage so uncomfortable that I told her to stop. She kept going. For me this place deserves about 17 stars, but I can see how A LOT of folks might not be comfortable here. My body and I were in a fight. It said I wasn't treating it right. I said it was being too sensitive. It started giving me the silent treatment, refusing to respond when I tried to tie my shoes or check my blind spot. So I came here in an emergency reconciliation attempt. To start, the bathroom is down an extremely shady winding back hallway. There were some weird looking dudes back there. My mind went crazy places. Go at home. I have an aversion to male masseurs after a creepy experience a while back. This is not the type of place that asks. I went into the room, which had three beds that were curtained off, undressed, and was greeted by a man. And this dude went to war with my knots. It was intense. He was sweating, grunting. At one point he yelled, "your neck too tight!" Me, "yeah that's why I'm here." He continuously asked if I was okay or the pressure was too rough. And he did some serious work. Now, I'm not saying he took liberties, because I don't think that was the case. But this is not the type of place that carefully drapes and is mindful of where they are touching. He spent a lot of time on my glutes and was all up in my nooks and crannies. If you're sensitive about that, this may not be for you. While my boy was digging a huge knot out of my lat, two other people did come in the room for massages. I didn't care. If you require total privacy, go elsewhere. When my 60 minutes were up, I had not received the foot massage bc the rest of me required so much attention. He asked if I wanted the feet. Yes, please! How long? 15 minutes. Set the timer again and we were off. I appreciate that level of flexibility for the treatment. All said and done, 75 minutes of amazing deep tissue massage was $63. This place will accommodate all comers, whether you want 5 minutes or 5 hours of massage, and give you the cash discount. I'll be back again soon. I can afford this but I can't afford to have my body revolt again. read more

This place has been my go-to for well over a decade, and I'm very glad to see them survive COVID challenges. The people are very nice, and they are skilled at finding the source of the pain if you have a specific area. For me, it tends to be the teres minor/major muscles in the rear of the shoulder, and I've been amazed at how they can make it feel like new again. read more

I've passed this place several times every day and never even considered stopping in for a massage. The location (wedged into the basement next to Room 84 and under Tiger Schulman's) definitely doesn't do it any favors as far as perceived sketchiness. However, I had an enormous knot in my neck and couldn't turn my head. After checking the reviews on Yelp!, I was surprised to see that it was rated at 4 stars. I decided to give it a shot, and I'm so glad I did! No, it's not a spa-like atmosphere, and yes, there's a faint trace of a thumping bass line from upstairs - but I don't care. They are open late every day and you don't need to make an appointment in advance. For $32 ($30 if paid in cash) plus tip, I was able to walk in around 7 PM on a Tuesday and immediately receive a 30-minute, half-body massage including hot stone treatment at the end. The place is clean and the massage was great - I woke up the next morning and the literal pain in my neck was almost completely gone. They also offer a loyalty program - for every 10 massages (at least 30 min each), you receive an extra 15 min for free. I went here last night for a 60-minute massage and enjoyed my experience for the most part. You can't beat the price ($60 after gratuity). I was a little turned off when I walked into the room and there was a stain on the bed that went through all of the sheets - it must have been fresh because it was still moist. I voiced my concern, they flipped on the light, while I had my shirt off, and replaced the linens. After this blip, the massage was great from a small lady with strong hands. Best massage place in Hoboken. If you find a masseuse you like, you should request them since the quality varies a bit depending on who you get to do the massage. I particularly like Susan, so you could ask for her for a future massage. Very quiet, with new age music playing in the background. You can request soft of hard. I always request hard. The lady who did my massage checked with me about the pressure and responded to my request to lighten the pressure. She worked out all the knots and I feel pretty relaxed after the massage. I was in the same room with two other people, but there are curtains to separate us. There is a discount if you pay cash. They also have a stamp card. You receive 15 min of free massages after ten 30 minute massages (so an one hour massage counts as 2). It didn't bother me very much but here are some things I noticed that could use some improvement. I called to make an appointment before hand but when I arrived, it appears that they have no clue about the appointment. But I was still able to get a massage right away and I noticed that some people are doing walk ins with no appointment. The older gentleman who worked at the front desk to receive payments is very nice but don't seem to speak much English. I paid in cash and asked to leave a $15 tip, but he just gave me back the entire amount. Okay not a problem, I just turned around and gave the tips to my massage therapist. Sophia gave me a great massage on my visit. Firm and responsive to my requests, asking during the massage if the pressure was ok. She was very friendly and skilled at what she does. My only reason for dinging one star was that it was a bit pricey, given that I was in a room shared with others (separated by a hanging sheet). While that does not bother me, I was a bit shocked that I was paying $82 for a 90 minute massage. Yes, I've paid more for 90 minute massages...it wasn't that much more, and I didn't have to share a room with anyone. Great service. Clean. Got an appointment the same day. The massage therapist was very polite. I got a great massage. I went with the 60 minute deal which cost $50 if you pay cash. She worked me out. I asked for a deeper massage and she worked a few knots out that had been bothering me for months. The only draw backs were that there was a bit of a language barrier, and she used the hot stones without asking me or letting me know they were coming. I was surprised (to say the least). The overall massage was very satisfying, very relaxing. I'll definitely go back. Next time I'll specify more foot work as there was very little done. Creepy and pushy. I have no issues with low frill places. However, my experience here was lousy due to 2 main reasons: 1. In the middle (or more like two thirds into the session), they switched therapists. Seriously. The door opened, they spoke in Chinese, then just switched. No one thought about asking me if it is OK with me or anything. After all, I'm just the piece of meat they are working on, not like I'm a customer, right? At the end, when they asked me if I was happy, I pointed out that I found it very odd and didn't like the therapist switch. They just laughed it off and said of the new guy 'He is good. You lucky. Be happy." 2. They then proceeded to ask to tip at least 20%, and pushed me to do so for both therapists. They were really pushy and insistent about it. I find it annoying. Price it the way you want, but don't offer low prices only to make up the difference in aggressive moves to make up the different in 'tips'. A tip should be voluntary and commensurate with the service received. read more

Horrendous experience at Washington Body Work! The female boss is an unprofessional, unscrupulous, and untrustworthy individual that I have had two extremely negative experiences with. She is so completely unprofessional that I am thinking about reporting this place. First time we made an appointment for 2 female masseuses, when we arrived, my girlfriend somehow ended up with a male masseuse. She strongly wants to have a female masseuse, especially for a full-body massage, so I took the male masseuse, and was very unsatisfied with the massage. The female boss should've learned that first time what our preferences were, and not to promise us an appointment unless she could provide female masseuses. Second time we made another appointment for 2 female masseuses, and I made an appointment with a specific masseuse for a specific time. I only discovered that I wasn't going to have that masseuse once I was on the massage table and asked. The boss' answer? "Oh, she's busy." She didn't seem to care and she didn't even apologize! If I was not going to have the masseuse I requested, she should've told me and maybe I wouldn't have made the appointment that day! Again, my girlfriend wanted a female masseuse, and I asked for one while making the appointment, which the female boss agreed to! When we went into our "couples' massage", there was supposed to be no curtain between us, but the female boss drew the curtain. My masseuse said, "Oh no, she prefers to have it open." The female boss still closed the curtain after that comment -- which should've been an immediate red flag that she was trying to hide something. After about 15 minutes, I opened the curtain between us to check, and I saw a male masseuse!! My gf was shocked as her face was in the massage table and she didn't know that the boss had left and a male masseuse as massaging her! The female boss had pretended to be my girlfriend's masseuse for a few minutes, and then a male masseuse sneaked in to replace her! That is completely unprofessional and just wrong! She should lose her license for this! I asked, "Why is there a male masseuse when we specifically asked for a female masseuse??" She responded saying, "He's very good." I said, "I don't care -- my girlfriend wanted a female masseuse, and you massaged her for only a few minutes and changed to a male masseuse without telling us!" Then she made a bunch of excuses saying that she only thought that I had asked for a specific masseuse for me, but not for 2 female masseuses: a complete lie. She understood me completely, as I repeated it several times over the phone to confirm when I had called. Then she said that she was the boss so she had to work out at the front desk, and that's why she couldn't do the massage. When she came back in to do the massage, my gf said that she kept massaging her in a way that caused a lot of pain. When my gf said, "Ouch, that hurts!" the boss' response was, "It's bc you sit too much." (My gf stands almost all the time for work). Then the boss blamed it on her and rudely said, "You have a problem with your legs. If you can't handle the pain, then I won't massage you anymore, but then there's no point in getting a massage." We are NOT newbies to massages, and we know what an appropriate massage should feel like and how much pain is too much pain. I COULD NOT BELIEVE this boss was arguing with my girlfriend about the pain caused by her massage. Before we paid, the boss said, "Next time speak to me in Chinese so I understand" This is complete nonsense, as my gf is fluent in Chinese, and I spoke enough to make sure that she understood everything I was saying. Then my gf repeated the complaint in Chinese abt how she asked for a female masseuse, and how she switched in a male masseuse. In fact, she did it in a deceptive way, hoping that we wouldn't know the difference. My gf could not believe the boss' response: "I didn't change masseuses on you. I just went out to wash my hands and change clothes." Bullsh*t. And somehow a male masseuse just wandered into my gf's massage room and started massaging her? Finally the female boss came back to finish the massage, after we made a big deal about the issue. We don't think she would've come back otherwise. At the end, I still tried to tip my own masseuse bc this wasn't her fault. Somehow when I was pulling out my money, I saw the boss take $5 from my pile, move it to her drawer and bring it back, and she said it was hers! I said, "No, I was planning to tip $12, and this $5 was from me." Then she so vehemently argued that it was hers, that I said, "Fine -- I'm only going to give one more dollar, but this was all meant as tip for my masseuse, not for you!" My gf was so upset at her experience that she didn't even give any tip, and the boss gave her this angry look that scared her. I go here as often as I can. The people who work there are so sweet and they really know how to give amazing massages. One tip though- do 't go during the children's kick boxing classes because you can hear them stomping and jumping. Sure, the place looks a little seedy but the massages can't be beat. If you pay cash, it's 50 dollars for an hour massage, and they really work the crap out if your muscles. Plus, if they aren't finished when the timer goes off, they actually keep going until they finish the massage (an extra 5 minutes or so) no charge. This tui na style massage place is on my way to the train so I stop here at least once a week for a short foot or chair massage or a longer hour long one. They are always fantastic, no matter who does them. I have been here so often I finally got to redeem the pinch card for a free 15 minutes and it will be no time before I get another one (after 10 half hours). One room is private and the other has three beds in it with curtains between but no room is completely soundproof/private. They also have two chairs if you just want a foot massage and a chair if you just want a quickie back massage. FYI They offer a discount if you pay cash. read more

I love this place. It's where I go for a no frills massage when I need one pronto (no appt needed). You will get a good massage from anyone who works there. For some reason I've gotten a male masseuse the last few times I went but I think the owner (middle-aged woman with frizzy hair) is the best. She applies great pressure and always finds the knots! This place seems to have gone downhill and it's a shame. I used to be a regular when they had a couple of experienced and strong masseuses (there were 2 in particular I really liked). But the last 3 times I've been there I've gotten just overall bad massages. During 2 of the visits I had to request that I get a new person because it was just that bad. Keep in mind that I have some real back and neck problems and need someone that knows what they're doing and can go really deep. Actually, if they really know what they're doing and know musculature, you don't even need to go *that* deep, you just need to know where to apply the right pressure. I haven't been able to get that at all here anymore - the "masseuses" seem very inexperienced and most can't understand English - so it's very difficult if not impossible to communicate if you need anything specific. I would have probably walked out if it wasn't so cheap compared to a lot of places in Hoboken. If you just want a relaxing rub down or foot rub that doesn't break the bank, go for it, but if you want a real massage I suggest you look elsewhere. They are very nice people though. read more

Went today after ready positive yelp reviews....everything is true! I had excruciating neck pain upon waking up this morning and aleve/heating pad didn't help. So I went over and got a 30 minute massage by one of the strongest women ever. She was thorough and very focused on helping me with my pain. After the massage I could move my head again - still sore but so much better! It's a no frill place but for $30 I got 30 minutes that helped me feel good again.
