Finally got to try this place out after many weeks!! Got take out for lunch yesterday and so glad we did!!! 3 out of 4 of us tried the fried chicken sandwich with pimiento cheese... WOW!!!! So, so good! All three of us ate every bite of the sandwich!! The fourth was a burger. She said it was really good.. only issue was by time we got to our destination to eat, the burger and tomato made the bun really soggy. That's an easy fix with packing in separate containers.. We lucked out this morning by grabbing the very last table in this quaint restaurant in lakeside/northside area. After hearing from someone that they hesitated to mention how wonderful it was because they didn't want to fight for a table every time they came, I couldn't resist giving it a try. The coffee was delicious, the service wonderful and the food even better. The shrimp and grits was the best meal on the table- Large perfectly cooked shrimp over smoked Gouda grits with LOTS of delicious sauce topped with a tart tomato salad. The special of the day was breakfast tacos (eggs, bacon, guac, lime aioli, pico on corn tortillas with very good potatoes)- good but not great. Brioche pain Perdue (French toast) topped with fresh peaches with crispy bacon on the side - delicious! Chicken and waffles topped with peppered honey and syrup. Also very good. The true stars were the shrimp and grits & the pain perdue. Overall a wonderful meal but the special of the day was a miss. Hobnob is back, babies! After some slight slippage in the post-Covid period, they are back in strong form. I started with a gold Rush cocktail: Woodford Reserve with honey and lemon that sounds like a cough syrup, but tastes like a proper cocktail. We dug in with the cinnamon rolls, which were rich , sweet, and gooey. The Blanchard's coffee was needed to prevent an immediate sugar overdose. I had the gingerbread pumpkin waffle which was not overly gingery, and came with a buttermilk bourbon caramel sauce that I was tempted to sip by itself. One of my buddies had the sausage gravy and biscuits which disappeared without a trace. My other dining companion attempted the Breakfast Plate, and did it reasonable justice in light of the fact that she is still recovering from recent surgery. Everything was delicious. The service was impeccable as well. There were numerous things missing from the table originally, but the wait staff provided them quickly and with good humor. Hobnob remains one of my Richmond favorites for brunch. read more

We've been meaning to try Hobnob for a few weeks and finally got there tonight. I'm glad we arrived when we did as I imagine it get much busier as the night goes on. We were seated inside. Love,love, love the ambiance! Clean, neat classy but not at all pretentious. It does get a little loud but that's part of the fun. Our server Cary was also the bartender and he did not stop moving the whole time we were there. He was very friendly and good natured. I had the Pesto Shrimp Pasta and hubby had the Flatiron steak. The fish and chips were not bad. The fish was tasty but a little too greasy and the fries were over-cooked and dry. The Salmon Salad had brussel sprouts sliced and was not what was expected. We don't recommend the lunch here because the meal choices are not great but the ambience is nice on a nice day. We have visited Hobnob several times and been pleased every time. They have great, consistent service. I recommend making reservations as it's a small place. My boyfriend said they have the best shrimp and grits outside of New Orleans that he's had. On our last visit I tried the rock fish BLT with mac and cheese, and we shared the Brussels sprouts. My sandwich was delicious! I also got the pistachio ricotta cake. It has subtle pistachio flavor, and bf for the giant chocolate cake. It was at least 3 times the size of mine. Ok, hear me out. We've been wanting to try Hobnob since the summer of 2020 when a lot of people were hyping it on the FB RVA Food group. We recently tried it during lunch on a Thursday around 12:30. I'll start with the pros: - super cute and artistic interior and exterior (the mural), very aesthetically pleasing - friendly staff (only interacted with 2 employees but they were very nice) - chicken sandwich is amazing Cons: - crab bisque came out cold and gelatinous. Our server heated it for us upon request, but it wasn't very good and made us feel kind of sick. Don't want to assume, but seeing as it had been the special that week, it was probably a few days old and that was evident. Yuck. - although the restaurant was virtually empty (us and one other table occupied), a table of two was sat within arms reach of us while we were still eating. With Omicron and all, I would have liked them to seat the two top basically anywhere but right next to us. So close I actually had to say excuse me when we left so my behind wasn't in their faces. - I started a conversation about the weather with the employee who wasn't our server, as it was really quiet and semi-weird, and they proceeded to tell me they had just reopened after closing due to a Covid spread and that "people are afraid to come back after that." Yikes. They also said their main clientele for lunch were "women in their 70s," and that's why it was so slow. Too much info, didn't ask, honestly didn't want to know. I'd love to give them another shot, but preferably take out to help social distance, and also to avoid hearing the woes of the restaurant/staff. Our server was nice but I didn't feel overly welcome at any point. Kind of seemed like a hurry up and finish so we can get lunch shift done vibe. I've been a server before and understand, but at 12:30-1:30, come on. I wanted it to be our new go-to but that's not in the cards. After two visits, I'm confident in giving Hobnob a solid 4 star rating. On the first visit I had the butternut squash lasagna and it was super super delish! My bf's shrimp and grits was scrumptious as well. The second time I came with a group of 5 and made it in time for happy hour (and beer list is pretty solid). The calamari was some of the best I've had, but my black bean enchilada wasn't very impressive (pretty bland really). My bf had a pasta dish and was also not real impressed (sauce not mixed in so bland as well). Everyone else seemed to be fine with what they had. We are here for the first time for brunch on a Sunday. We made a reservation because this is a smaller establishment and we made a previous attempt to dine in for dinner but the wait was pretty long. We were seated as soon as we arrived (doesn't happen everywhere even with a reservation) and it was pretty crowded. The service was great. The wait time for us to get our food was reasonable. We enjoyed bloody mary's and mimosas as we waited. The food was fresh, seasoned just right and delicious. We have since done pickup for dinner, which has been equally as good. Tucked into a neighborhood, Hobnob is a GEM! We've gone multiple times and they are always busy. They only have brunch on Sunday mornings, but it is worth it. We have tried several different items from the menu. I've had their Chicken and Waffles, my husband has eaten their Shrimp and Grits. We have never had anything bland. The coffee is good, but their Key Lime Pie is AMAZING! We've come once or twice for dinner and have not been disappointed. Recently found myself a tad hungover on a Sunday morning in the area and after a quick search (thanks fellow Yelpers!) decided to check this place out. It was well over half an hour before I finally was seated at the bar. I almost gave up but decided to stick it out and I'm ever so glad I did. I had the quiche of the day with a small side salad. Everything was delightful and the portion size was enough to have seconds the next day for breakfast! I've been chastising myself for weeks now that I didn't order the sticky buns.
