I was thrilled when this store opened in Mira Mesa. The store is clean and well stocked and items are easy to find. I struggled giving this location the five stars it would deserve if they had good staff who provided exceptional customer service and were knowledgeable about the products. Unfortunately they fall short in that area. This has been an issue every time I shop here. Today. The cashier didn't even greet me and there were no words between us throughout the entire transaction. I know if I owned this business I wouldn't be disappointed with the employees and I'd ensure they received extensive customer service training. I hope the management can make some improvements as far as service so this store will continue to thrive in this location. read more

I love their collectible car section!!!! Cars are my hobby. I am so happy about the Hotwheels, M2s, and more collectibles that they sell...I wish they had more! The employees were nice too, though. I loved how this location was not busy the weekend before Christmas. I was able to shop the 60% off Christmas items and there was hardly a line. I got a variety of 3'x4' pieces of suedes leather in a single bag for 8.99$ to use for my bowling balls oil wiper because a double square pieces of less than 1'x1' for bowling accessories is already cost more than 8.99$! I am personally satisfied with my selection and value on this particular purchase because it was a great discovery for my family sport that had been going on 5 years and still going strong for year ahead. Weird panopticon/prison vibes -- employees follow shoppers around and lurk near you (multiple at a time) while you're shopping, and they're directed by not-so-subtle half-coded announcements over the store's intercom ("security, code __ on aisle __" or "security, record zones 6 and 7"). To be fair, not all of these codes are related to stalking customers according to Google, but can't they just use radios or something? Not sure if Mira Mesa is a rougher area than it appears to be, but this sort of thing registers as insolence to any adult shopper with gainful employment. I had a really disappointing experience at this Hobby Lobby location today, and I feel it's important for corporate to be aware of how customers are being treated. I asked a simple question at checkout whether the store would ever start accepting Apple Pay. Instead of just saying she didn't know or giving a straightforward answer, the assistant manager (her name was something like Bridget/Bethany/Bertha started with a B) gave me a whole lecture in front of a long line of customers. She went on about how she would have to contact corporate, how there are thousands of stores, and basically made me feel like I was bothering her for asking a normal customer question. Her tone was extremely passive-aggressive and dismissive very hostile.On top of that, the store was very busy, customers were waiting, and she seemed more focused on closing lines than actually helping anyone. Her overall behavior felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. I've never had an employee make me feel embarrassed for simply asking about a payment option. I hope corporate takes this seriously, because customer service should never make people feel talked down to or humiliated I'd rather take my business to Walmart from now on. read more

Great place, IF you know the location of what you want to buy. The store has an amazing selection for home décor, craft making, seasonal items, etc. Also, prices are lower (sometime considerably lower) than Michael's. I do really want to shop here, but each time the lack of customer assistance makes me think twice before going back. It is a very large store, so if you are not familiar with the layout, unless you have a lot of time you do have to ask for assistance. Employees are not helpful, often they avoid making eye contact and keep walking, or give "indications" so generic that you have to ask another customer to find what you are looking for. I don't get why there's so many bad reviews. I personally had an awesome experience at Hobby Lobby! We just moved to the area so this is the first hobby lobby that we've patronized. Prices were actually good and better than Michael's. I did the comparison for faux flowers. I was on a hunt for some faux flowers for my home and visited both stores. The prices at Hobby Lobby was actually lower, and I waited for their weekly sale and got really good deals. The store was nicely organized and clean. I had fun just roaming around without a need for anything. The service was good. I asked a few employees some questions and they weren't snarky or rude at all. The cashier was also very polite. I would say, things can be pricy but if you wait for their weekly sale, then you will find a lot of deals depending on your need. I highly recommend Hobby Lobby over Michael's and Joann's. read more

I just witnessed a lady get yelled at by a young employee and when she went to the front to ask for the manager the woman just gave her a blank stare while the employee interrupted and accused her right in front of the manager!!! How awful that someone would be mistreated while she is shopping!! She had two dogs one in a stroller and apparently she was being accused that her dog had pooped in the store, I saw her in the beads section for the longest time and I did not see her even going to where the poop was at the other end of the store. I am baffled she would be so mistreated... the manager said this is a "Christian store" in response of the woman being upset and cursing, but my definition of Christian would not involve treating someone so bad based on some unfounded accusation. I was so uncomfortable with the whole situation that I left, leaving my cart. No way would I support a business who is racist, clearly this Hispanic lady was being discriminated against... Well Date of Visit : January 23, 2023 and I always was wondering what type of Store this was so I finally got my chance to walk in and take a look !! Well asI Walked in the sliding doors I was like pretty cool looking around and seeing some Valentines things and stuff set up already !! As I walked further into the store I noticed all these cool pictures in frames and lots of nice stuff for the Hobby enthusiasts and lots of stuff kind of like a Michaels but it was pretty well organized !! I walk around trying to find someone to help me out but they did not have enough workers so I walked up and down the aisles and finally found one associate and I flag him down and he took me right to where I was looking for my product !! Now here there are lots of Arts and Crafts type of stuff plus some collectibles such as Funko Pops and lots of Models Cars plus all sorts of Wall Decor too !! But one thing really confused me were the big signs that say Take 50 Percent off our ticketed price !! So those signs are posted all around the store !! Just a heads up don't be fooled because it is only good for the non yellow signs on products !! The Yellow tags are final sale !! Well this location use to be a Toys R Us now Hobby Lobby !!! And is located right next door to Target in Mira Mesa !! Across the street from the Village of Mira Mesa Mall !! Like most people with a new shop in their area I was burning with the curiosity of what this place had in store for me. Not that I need anything in particular - I'm not really into crafts or decorating and I certainly don't need more reason to buy things just for the sake of it, but I'll be darned if there's a 40% off one item coupon in the mail and I don't at least check it out! Ultimately I didn't find anything compelling enough to plunk down the other 60% for. But there was A LOT of stuff. This place is large and efficiently organized. Not only that but the shelves go high. I fear for an earthquake while in this store and getting trapped under a pile of scented candles and decorative garland. It not only has all the knickknacks you never knew you needed, but fabric and framing services as well. I'll have to keep that in mind. I don't know about all the prices, but the girlfriend did see a decorative wreath and two festive reindeer to go on the dining room table. After adding it all up it came out to about $100. It sounds expensive for plastic and Styrofoam molded decorations even if it is initially cinnamon scented and gold and snow mottled. But I honestly don't know since I'm not well versed in this stuff. I guess the point being is that this place could get dangerous and really drain your wallet if you're not careful. That's not exactly their fault though. In the end, if you're looking for crafts or décor related items, you'll find something here. One last thing - not really related to Hobby Lobby in particular but I just noticed how tired I am of inspirational quotes written in the same ubiquitous script. This store has a lot of cute and seasonal things that make you want everything! They also offer a lot of great deals and coupons. However, this place loses three stars because their service is EXTREMELY SLOW and every time they have to MANUALLY type in the price. During my second visit at this store, the same thing happened both times. They had discounted items noted 40% off and when the discounted price doesn't appear on sale, they question you and say I don't think this item is on sale... and have to look up the items in their binder... Then they say ohh well the company is called The Paper Studio but this item is Agenda 52 so I guess I'll honor it. Like what the heck... Yes, you'll honor it. You have it listed as a big printed sale sign that Agenda 52 products are on sale! It's frustrating when you feel like you have to just wait for the cashier to ring up the correct price. So beware! Just bought several candies here. When I left the store, I noticed that these were expired. I came back to the store (within 2 minutes of buying), came to the same cashier that sold it to me and asked her to exchange the candy because it was expired. The cashier said "you can't return or exchange food, this is our store policy". I said "I'm not trying to return it, I would like to exchange it for the same one, if you have unexpired. if you don't have the same one I would like to get a refund". The cashier replied "can't do it, I can call the manager for you if you want". I said "yes please". The manager came and repeated the same thing " you can't exchange or return food". Only when I reminded her that it's illegal to sell expired food, she agreed to exchange. She went back to the shelf and we found a lot more expired candies of the same type. The manager just mentioned "oh, they probably forgot to pull it"..... Had to share this very "interesting" customer service experience as it was definitely a first for me, being treated like I was doing something wrong after being sold spoiled food. read more

I honestly just went in here to use the restroom. Hobby Lobby stores usually have clean restrooms and you don't need a key code to get in. They usually have minimal staff, so you can just walk in and use their restroom. On the way back out, I noticed this particular store had a lot more craft and hobby supplies than other Hobby Lobby stores. Prices were a ripoff, but it's convenient if you need something in a pinch. That and all the Christian decor and the fact they are closed on Sundays so employees have time with their families & with the Lord are the main reasons I gave 2 stars. Bad lazy management. I needed a price check on something that was 5.99 originally and had a SALE ticket of 6.99. The manager was called and he was annoyed already. First he won't scan it. Instead His answer was that "prices change all the time". I understand that, but they do not go on SALE for higher price. He was very annoyed by me taking time from his busy day. His attitude cost the store a sale. I wanted to buy all that they had for my project. Luckily this is not the only store close by. This was my 3rd time at this store. I went to the Mira Mesa store of Hobby Lobby the other day. They had a good stock of merchandise. However not one employee was wearing a mask. Almost all customers were. When masks are encouraged for indoor shopping I find it appalling that this establishment has no regard for the safety of its customers. I would suggest you shop elsewhere. read more

Awesome but yet dangerous place to be in! I say dangerous because everything is soo darn cute & they have everything from paper to throw pillows to office decor to frames. I mean every occasion you can think of, they got it. Their prices cannot be beaten as well. I used to go to Michael's or Joanne's in the past & ever since I've discovered Hobby Lobby I've been able to save so much more! They ALWAYS have majority of their items 50% off every week. They also have a 40% off coupon on regular price items. Great place to window shop, but I guarantee you'll find something to buy. As a spendthrift and someone who likes to save, before I would guiltily ignore the obvious red flags and faults of Hobby Lobby to save a couple cents here and there but after continuous awful experiences, I can no longer let this pass. I shopped at Joann and Michaels recently and they have coupons that make Hobby Lobby pale in comparison, with none of the awful causes or experiences behind it. I urge anyone to expand their horizons to the arts and crafts stores in their areas because I guarantee you will find better prices and better experiences every time. The systems at hobby lobby are archaic, they are the only store in 2022 I know of that does not accept apple pay, they type everything manually, and base discounts off of a literal piece of newspaper. This is extremely inconvenient to customers in terms of wait times and error and also extremely inconvenient for the staff who have to memorize what specific things are on sale on what days of the week. Human memory is prone to error, so you can expect to leave the store with many "discounted" items at full price and charged for things you didn't even purchase. This is no fault of the staff, but the awful, 3,000 year old technology the hobby lobby corporation refuses to upgrade from even though they have the resources to do so. It's almost like they want their customers to have an unreasonably difficult shopping experience and leave frustrated. If you can dismiss that, you should also know that Hobby Lobby wishes to ban religious freedom, illegally smuggles stolen goods from the middle east, and spends half of all their earnings lobbying to ban equal rights, marriage equality, and religious freedom. Their hateful beliefs and views literally translate into how they run their company and stores, and shows a refusal to care for their customers or be considerate to anyone. I have been a long time shopper at hobby lobby but due to their continuous awful attitudes, behaviors, and systematic issues I can confidently say I will never shop at one again read more

A sucker for hobby lobby naturally, like most are. They had everything labeled and in its spot which speaks to their high standards. Josephine G helped me today (or Atleast that's what the receipt says) and she was in such a cheery spirit that it got to me. Often i feel rushed out of stores after they get my money but she took her time, pointed out some sales, and was overall kind - which something hard to find these days. Let's begin with I'm not a seamstress. I went in to purchase some lining for a jacket that a friend is making for me. They were out and the sales person suggested I try a different type of fabric. I asked if it didn't work could I return it and she said yes. Well that fabric wasn't going to work after all per my friend. I purchased lining someplace else, and when I came to return it, a person at the register, after waiting in a long line, told me I needed to go to the fabric department and have it measured. I waited for seven minutes, ringing the bell for assistance. A woman showed up and asked me where I got the fabric from. When I showed her, she asked me which one. I told her to get the receipt and look at the SKU because I did not know. She then proceeded to scold me saying that I should not have had fabric cut. I told her that I asked about returning and that was the last thing she said to me. She measured it wrote it on the receipt, handed it back to me without so much is a boo.
