Needed some patio cushions reupholstered for our condo downtown to be ready in time for Padres opening day. Googled the closest one to our house in Carmel Valley/del Mar and this place came up. Dropped them off and quickly selected a fabric that was on sale. Told them how important it was to have them within a month. They understood the assignment and came through with perfection and amazing craftsmanship. Will definitely use them again for our house furniture too. We had our dining room chairs reupholstered and used We R Fabrics. We were told 6 weeks but it really took 5 months!!! We were told they used their own upholsterer and he was thee best. The person who did our chairs does not work exclusively with this company so we weren't told the truth. Wendy kept saying "he's just so busy...we need to get another person. " We paid up front for the job and it was very pricey. I should have shopped around more but I like using local merchants. When completed the chairs weren't good and needed to be re done, then when returned to us 3 of them needed to be redone a 2nd time. read more

This is a very high end "designer" store (not really seemingly wanting to deal with general public). I hesitated to go in again after 5 years when I felt an elitist vibe, but I discovered they had a very organized remnant room in the back where I could get small pieces of sample fabrics- probably discontinued samples- for a craft project. First visit I got a few pieces at $1 each!!!! (approx 12 x 18 as example). The next time a couple of weeks later I take my purchase to the counter and was told they are now $5 each! So what changed all of a sudden? I actually felt personally affronted as if they had discovered someone wanted to purchase the scrap remnants so let's just charge more? Or... I didn't look the class of customers they strive for? Won't be back as my original feelings from 5 years ago had been reconfirmed. read more

I had not been to the store in several years. I remembered they used to have high-end fabric books and thought I would run in to get some inspiration. They always had the best selection and beautiful fabrics, so I was looking forward to getting inspired by looking at a book and then shopping their fabric options for some drapery I am looking to do. A friend of mine had also mentioned that they could make my drapery or source it out, so I thought I would spend some time looking for my drapery fabric. I walked toward the back of the store where they used to have the "library," but it wasn't there. I looked around a bit and was approached by two women asking if I needed help. I told them I wanted to look at one of their books for inspiration and asked if they still have them. The one woman, who was older with gray hair and rude, looked at me and hesitated before she said, "Those books are by appointment only, and there's a charge to look at them." She continued on by saying something about needing to protect themselves from people taking pictures and then going online. Her tone took me aback, and I actually apologized and said, "I'm sorry; I don't mean to cross any boundaries. You used to be able to come in and look at them." I put my hands up, like, hey, I come in peace. I'm not here to rob you. I continued on, saying, "But you still do have them. How do I make an appointment and get access to them?" The other woman a well-dressed brunette points to the front of the store and says that the library is now at the front of the store and starts walking that way so I follow her. She says she will grab the book I was inquiring about to show it to me. I asked her what was the cost to enter the library and she said that it was $50 and hour but that it gets applied to the purchase you may make. She also asked me why didn't i just look online. I said, I'm old school and I like to look at the books. She asked me what was I looking for and since I'm no dummy (at this point I am not going to support this store and can't wait to leave) I told her that I was not sure what I was looking for, but I'll know when I see it. She continued about something which I do not recall exactly but it was something about how they had to make some changes during COVID, and I said to her, "Let me just say, I do not appreciate the way that woman spoke to me. She was rude to me and made me to feel like I've done something wrong." She looks at me like, that's tough and gives me a little shoulder shrug "She's the owner." Dear Diane, you may have owned this family business for over 30 years, but let me give you a little tip. Treat people as you would like to be treated; with dignity and respect. Here is how you should have addressed me; "I'm Diane, the owner, thank you for coming in. We would love to help you and we are so glad you're here. We did change up our access to the books due to COVID; there's now a $50 fee and the books are by appointment only, but you do get that $50 applied to a furture purchase. Can we set up an appointment for you? What are you looking to do? We would love to help you. (Insert name of brunette here) Why don't you show (at this point you could have said, I'm so sorry, I should have asked your name). Alicia! Show Alicia where the library is and give her a tour of it and see if she would like to set up an appointment." I left feeling unappreciated. Hopefully my review will be read and this experience won't happen to anyone else. read more

Service was good, everyone was friendly, there's a big selection. The prices are okay for mid quality polyester fabrics. However, there is a no return policy, so don't be zealous with your wallet. Currently working on another project with Trudi, one of the designers. It's difficult to narrow down fabric choices when there are so many excellent and beautiful choices. But Trudi is a great help with this, asking all the right questions and never pushing towards what would be her choice. Custom upholstery is always expensive and should fall into the category of an investment. But a beautifully upholstered piece of quality furniture is something which lasts and lasts. Went to this store because I wanted to have a duvet cover and shams made, plus check out their Sunbrella selection. Was totally ignored by the people working there. I got the feeling that they only want to work with designers and the very wealthy. They do have some lovely fabrics there and a room of remnants. Horrible experience!! I would never recommend this place to anyone. They will say what you want to hear to take your money. As soon as you "prepay" you'll fall to the bottom of their to do list and NEVER return your calls. Very rude sales people and a huge lack of communication. Last time I went in the salesperson tried to sell me $400 of fabric when I wanted $100. She went ahead and ordered it on my credit card. I ended up paying the owner $100 to cancel the credit card payment, then sent my husband in to buy the $100 of material! I swore I would never go back, but they were one of the few stores that carried what I wanted, so I went there--- mistake! This time it cost my $90 I pillow form that they would not take back. I checked the return policy for the state of CA and as long as they have any kind of sign- in this case, handwritten, near the cash register they do not have to return anything! I was refinishing a dresser for my girlfriend and wanted to do the inside of the drawers with a really cool fabric but had no idea where to begin. I went in and spoke with the owner Jonathan and showed him a drawer from the dresser so he had a good idea of what I was going for. Not only did he walk me through the store to help me to find a cool fabric and show me around but he helped to explained how i can go about doing what I wanted to do. Super nice guy and a really cool store. This place isn't really like a craft store which the name may suggest as much as a store for people looking to get quality fabrics who know what they are doing. This store has beautiful fabric (and is just very pleasant to BE in). I go there especially for the remnants and scraps in the back room, they are perfect for my small projects. This past trip I was helped by Jonathon (Director of Style) who made me feel very welcome, he was kind, helpful and interested in my fabric choices and my work. I used to shop in WE R Fabrics years ago, and hadn't really had the need to do so for quite some time. I was looking for fabric to redo a piece of furniture, and wandered in. The store has more decorator items than I remembered from the past, and is much prettier inside. It is still filled with great fabrics, and I was amazed to see one of the sales ladies there, Mandana, who worked there when I shopped there years ago. I was trying to find a specific fabric, which I had seen at a different store. I showed it to the clerk, and told her I hadn't wanted to pay that much for fabric. She found me a number of other fabrics which were similar, and told me honestly, if I could get the one I liked, for the sale price at the other store, I would be getting a great deal. I appreciate that kind of honesty when I am shopping. I ended up getting some trim for this project- and once again, they were very helpful in finding a trim that would work for my upholstery project- going above and beyond in showing me different options. By the way- if you need someone to actually MAKE an item, or upholster a piece of furniture, they have people who can do it ALL for you! And for my upcoming projects, it won't be so long before I return to We R Fabrics again! read more

I ordered two custom bench cushions for window seats in my home. They were polite and accommodating. Pretty expensive but maybe that's because we are so used to mass made in China low quality prices. They used the measurements from the old cushions which fit perfectly. The new cushions however are a little too large for the bench and don't sit flat, I'm not sure if they will "settle" a bit after being sit on but I was a little frustrated that they weren't perfect for the money they cost. read more

There are so many cookie-cutter interior and home design and decorating options in our area and most of North County. For something unique, personalized and on trend, I find it to be a pleasure to visit We R Fabrics...something of a treasure hunt on most visits. I met with the stores owner, Jonathan and one of his consultants, Mandana. I cannot say enough about We R Fabrics. Although, they have many fabric choices, they also have a large variety of furnishings, accessories and will custom design any style of furniture you are looking for. I have been working closely with Mandana who has been fabulous. She is professional, polite, courteous, patient, reliable, dependable, and thorough. She has been very helpful in assisting me all my window treatments. Whenever I have a question or concern, Mandana is quick to respond and address the issue; right away. Also, Dana who does all the installations is great. He is professional and does an outstanding job. The fabric prices can range from reasonable to pricey but Mandana was able to work with me and find the fabrics and curtain rods that were in the price range. I ordered some trim on Saturday. I realized I could purchase the very same trim for 50% less. I called to cancel my order by leaving a voice mail that very day. They had gone for the day. I called again first thing Monday morning to be told that my sales person was not in, and it appears that the order was not placed yet, however I am not allowed to cancel special orders. I turned the car around and went in personally with my receipt to find my sales person standing right there (she was not gone for the day). She explained the order had indeed been placed that morning. I asked if she could please cancel it since it was just made. There is absolutely no way this order could have been processed, and I am sure we had time but she flat out said NO. She said she could not help me and the store owner would have to make the decision. He would not be in until later that day. Great, if I waited for him to get into work, I would definitely be too late to cancel this order that was JUST placed. These people have no idea how to treat customers. I was going to have my product made through them. Once I realized how inflexible they were I let them know I would be taking my business elsewhere. Horrible service, and overpriced! read more

I have a hard time giving this place two stars, it probably should be 1, but Sally maintained a very pleasant attitude, and was always friendly. I ordered two sets of custom drapes from this store. The first was a set of Roman Shades, the second a set of matching drapes. For the drapes I gave them an exact copy of what I wanted. I don't think I have the energy to go through all the problems there were with this order, and if I did type it in, you would probably not believe it. I probably had to go back and forth because there were problems with how the drapes were made and to approve changes maybe 15 times. It took 6 - 9 months from when I ordered the drapes until I finally had them. I didn't even want the drapes anymore, and several times just asked for my money back but they wouldn't do it. One set of drapes had two different dye lots sewn together into one panel. It was evident it was not the same material, yet that's what they gave me. They didn't believe me at first that their work room had sewn drapes like this. The first set I received was not the length I had specified in my order, the troubles went on and on. Maybe the fourth set I refused to go pick them up because I had already gone back multiple times for each previous set, they delivered them without all the panels. On a positive note, Sally was always cheerful, polite and never gave up. I actually would have preferred they did give up and just give me my money back, but given I had no choice, I must say Sally was pleasant to work with. At the beginning of the order, I also had a dispute (but I had already paid for the fabric and they wouldn't let me cancel then either). I paid for the material, the labor, etc. Once it was all paid for, they called to say they forgot to charge me for the lining. I thought the lining was included in the price they quoted, but it was I think at least 300 dollars more, and they didn't bring it up until days after I paid for everything. I thought it was a little dishonest, and offered to pay for the lining at cost since there was an error. The owner was pretty rude about it. It was a bit shocking actually, but I had already paid and was stuck. I couldn't recommend this business after my experience. . read more

We R Fabrics, not really. More like We R furniture upholstery. I was Solana Beach looking for a fabric store so I had my boyfriend google "fabric store in solana beach" while I was already out. Sounded perfect from the name. The shop was full of custom furniture and some upholstery. I was in there for about 10 min, the workers seemed snobby, no one acknowledged me even though I was the only customer. If you are looking for fabric then go somewhere else. read more

If you have respect for yourself, find another company for your window treatments needs. The completion of a $5.5K job, paid about 90% upfront, was promised in 6 weeks. It was completed in 24 weeks (5.5 months), and only after two vigorous complaints by me regarding delays, inattentiveness by designer Trudi Kuo, and unresponsiveness by installer Dana. Trudi never acted on her own to provide updates during the four months of delay. Each of the 7 times that my wife received an update from Trudi, my wife had to reach out. Trudi, though always polite, would take several days after a request for an update, and sometimes not answer at all. Practically all of Trudi Kuo's updates and promises turned out to be unfulfilled, namely, false. My wife had to agonize for days before reaching out each time to Trudi after the last broken promise. Installer Dana NEVER replied to phone calls and voice mails - some 7-8 in total, for two separate installations. Dana never apologized. Instead, he showed up for both jobs sulking that I had reported his unresponsiveness to We R Fabrics, and drop half a dozen unnecessary hints that installing curtains is not easy - as if this had anything to do with not answering voice mails for a week. The owner Brian Cruise promised to take responsibility for the overrun in time of four times what was promised, and for how unprofessional Dana and Trudi had been consistently. But in the end, Brian couldn't help himself but to backpedal on a portion of his promise and demand the remaining trifling 4% of the payment that we hadn't settled upfront, which we then settled immediately rather than debating the meaning of Brian's "I'll take care of all the remaining charges." One insult too many, this is the reason for leaving this factual review. In retrospect, my wife and I have mainly ourselves to blame for assuming that We R Fabrics' top-end pricing would bring at least decent service. read more
