Growing up I came here a lot, then my family and I slowly stopped coming since the food seemed to go downhill a little bit. Came back again with my fiancé the other night and tried a couple dishes and not sure if they've gotten better again or if it's just been that long, but the experience was good! We were seated right away even though they were busy, and our food came out pretty quick! We ordered a Mandu, the kalbi and the beef brisket soup with noodles. It was all very good. The kalbi was my favorite especially. Very tender and juicy! They give you a decent variety of bonchon and checked in often to see if you needed anything. Only thing that dropped the ball a little bit was that we asked for the check and was never given one. Wasn't a huge deal, we just walked up to the counter and asked for it again. If I had to choose the buffet here or McDonal which is only a 2-3 blocks away , I would have choosen McDonal. THE OLD HOBAN HAS RETURNED. My family and i went yesterday to have dinner at Hoban and we were extremely happy because the food tasted like it did like the 1st time that our friends had brought us to this restaurant. The service was better then it has been prior,but i was a little disappointed because our waiter asked us if we would be needing a box and my family said yes.The waitress came by and i asked for some more of the spicy rutabega because i just love the spicy rutabega and the kim chi and she told me that we normally won't give more after you have gotten a box,but i will do it this time.I was extremely disappointed because i was still eating and so was my wife we hadn't boxed up yet.Only our child had their food boxed. read more

Our rice was cold and we had to ask the waiter to reheat it twice. The food was mediocre and the portions are small for what you're paying. i got the bibimbap. The kalbi was good and so was the mandoo, but everything else was subpar. I get the feeling that the food has just been sitting out until it's ready to be served. Recently, went to Hoban after what seemed to be a few years. I have gone to this location quite a few times in the past. Each time I go it is quite average. The main dish(es) I like there are the hot soups jjigae. I feel they are worth your money and the flavor is pretty good. However, the rest of the items, especially meat items I feel are over priced and not really worth the cost. I am always hoping for some good Korean food in the twin cities area and have yet to find the right place. I have visited Seoul before and the food is just not the same. But, since there are not too many Korean restaurants around I find myself here if I want Korean food. Service is very average. The wait staff is never that attentive and it can take quite a while for your order to be taken and to come out. It gets pretty busy on the weekend so make sure you go when it's not so busy or make a reservation. read more

Such a good place with delicious food! I've been here a couple times and it doesn't disappoint! The first time I was there with a group of 5 and we were seated right away. We came with the intent of getting hot pot and we shared 2 among our group. OMG it's so much food but it's so good! We got the seafood jungol and the beef & octopus options. Personally I like the broth from the beef and octopus one better, but that's probably just me :) The seafood has shrimp, calamari, crab, clam, octopus, mussels, and vegetables. It was a good mix to get both, but it is a lot of food! My second time I got kimchi bi bim bap and it was so worth! Hoban Korean was not even Bookmarked by me, but happily, a "nearby" search on Yelp pulled up this restaurant. You'll get slapped in the face with crazy smells when you walk in, but don't leave. You won't regret it. The menu is in Korean and English and the pictures make the food look amazing. And it is. My boyfriend and I got the pork bulgogi. It was a new experience for both of us and we were surprised when the waitress showed up with side dishes of veggies (Banchan). We thought it was a mistake until research taught us that Korean food always includes Banchan, which is small side dishes of yummy sautéed or pickled veggies to go with the rice. (Thank you SmartPhone!) So pay attention to the server when the dishes are being described. I still can't tell you exactly what we ate, but I can tell you it was all delicious. The pork bulgogi was the perfect blend of spicy, sweet, and savory leaving a slow, good feeling heat in my mouth. I cannot wait to come back and try more things on the menu; especially the hot pot for 2. There's also 4 private Karaoke rooms available for rent at the attached Doremi, I didn't get to see those, but think it would be fun to rent out with friends and sing our hearts out. read more

I been coming here periodically throughout the last few years. At first it was really good, but these last couple of visits the service has been terrible. They can't even do take out correctly. The phone just rings and rings, try again after a few minutes and still rings and rings, it's 7pm, ya'll are still open. Foods good and plentiful which is why I kept coming here, but customer service needs some work. Dining in a couple months ago was us constantly wondering what is taking our server so long when it's not busy. I was expecting for better service but the chicken served was very hard like a stone, you can't even bite at all. They did re cook it but still very hard to chew!! I have been coming to this restaurant for the past 10 years. What used to be the best Korean food in the Twin cities is now only one of the marginal restaurants serving authentic Korean food. Over the past several years, I have noticed the serving sizes of their dishes as well as the taste quality go down. The amount of seafood in their soups or the rice dishes have majorly diminished. This is probably my favorite place to get Korean food in Minnesota. There is always lots of seating, the menu selection is huge, and pretty much anything you choose is going to be amazing. They always serve Banchan (those little dishes full of pickled veggies and other goodness) with your meal. For apps I recommend the Man Doo and the Bin Dae Tuk. It's hard to pick a favorite entree, but the Bulgogi never fails. If you're a rice fan get the Dolsot Bibimbop and if you can't get enough of Kimchee get the Kimchee Bokum. Holy moly, who knew a gem like this existed in the Middle of America aka Minnesota?! I was pretty impressed at how legit the Korean food was here. It's pretty comparable to the ones I've had in San Francisco and New York. On two trips, I had a chance to try the Sulang Tang, Bibim Naengmyun, Mul Naengmyun and Kop Chang Kui. Sulang Tang - Short rib kalbi served in a noodle soup. It's a simple and light dish, great during the cold weather. The meat was served in tender slices. Bibim Naengmyun - Naengmyun means cold noodles in Korean (learned this from my man who worked overseas for a year there.) Bibim is spicy so it's spicy cold noodles. This dish was a kicker in flavors, it's kind of those it hurts so good kind of moment. I couldn't stop gulping water between each bite but it was sooo good. I recommend telling the server to lower the spice level if you get this. Mul Naengmyun - This one is just regular cold noodles. It's just as good except without the high levels of spiciness. The brisk you get from the noodles is pretty refreshing on a hot summer day. Don't forget to ask your server to cut up your noodles otherwise you'll be slurping for eternity! Kop Chang Kui - Spicy beef tripe; once again it hurts so good. The place sure knows how to set your tongue on flames. The tripe is pretty tender but the dish was drowned in oil and sauce so maybe skip? They also provide banchan, keepin' it traditional. All in all, not bad for a Korean restaurant in Minnesota. read more

I am giving Hoban three stars with a heavy heart. I have been here around 3 times before yesterday, and the food was always great each time (I would even go as far to say the best Korean food in town), and the service was at least okay. My favorite dishes from Hoban: Seafood Hotpot *GET THIS! It's probably enough for 3-4 people, depending on how much you eat* Seafood Pancake Beef Short Ribs (Kalbi) Bingsu *GET THIS* However, yesterday, we decided to stop for lunch around 3:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was relatively busy, with a few huge parties. We had to wait a few minutes before being seated, which was understandable. But after 20 minutes of sitting down and looking at the menus, no server came to greet us, and there were no water given to us. It seems like there were only 1-2 servers, and they were occupied serving the large parties of people. The one server that I see consistently helping the parties that were seated just before us walked past our table at least 4 times without acknowledging the wait, water, and etc. We decided to leave after 20 minutes as it's unacceptable to me to wait 20 minutes for the server to come by, greet us, and give us water. I should also mention that the previous time I was here, the server messed up our bill when we asked them to split the check three ways. They end up swiping my card twice. I did not notice this until I was looking at my credit card transactions. This used to be my favorite place for Korean food, but I think it will be a while before I come back. We've eaten at Hoban twice in the last two weeks and both experiences were spectacular. Clean, nicely decorated restaurant and all staff are warm, friendly, and attentive. I had the Bulgogi in a Bowl and it's filled with generous portions of tender delicious beef, veggies, and a broth that's to die for. My wife tried a couple different dishes whose names I don't recall but the fact she keeps asking me when we're going back tells me they were extra good as well. A couple of buddies and I were out for a boys' Saturday night hanging out and BSing and drinking beer. We decided to make a nice base by going out to a highly recommended Korean place by my good friend's place. This restaurant is in a strip mall and it was about a quarter full on a Saturday night. We decided to get three dishes and a few appetizers and just split the bill three ways. It turned out pretty reasonable actually since we didn't get any booze. I ordered the seafood pancakes, which is actually an egg based pancake with tons of awesome amenities. VERY good! A little pricey at $16, but it was large and perfect. I would have liked a little Sirachi on the table, but soy sauce had to do. My friend ordered a beef based broth soup, which was tasty, just nothing too special I thought though, not bad, not great. It came in an iron bowl though I think, that kept it boiling hot. Little rice dishes came with everything as well, it was real cute. These little stainless stell bowls of rice. My buddy ordered some potsticker type deal which was tasty and the dipping sauce was pretty awesome as well. The coolest thing about this place is that with every mael, they bring out about 6 garnishments in separate bowls to share. Stuff like sprouts, ginger, potatoes,. just fun little things to add onto your plate, almost like food baubles. Real cool Overall, a fantastic place with lots of good laughs and plentiful food at a reasonable price for a fun night out. Our service was great and very polite and helpful. When I was in MPLS for business last month, a girl friend and I came here on her sister's recommendation. I've eaten at a lot of Korean and KBBQ places for the better part of a decade all over - and the level of customer service here was fantastic. Could be because the staff here was more Americanized. We ordered a few things including the seafood panjun ("pancake") to start - had a good assortment of scallops (my favorite), squid and mussels. There was about 7 sides of panchan (would have liked more and more variety) but it was a sufficient amount. We also had the Kalbi - which was deliciously tender and plenty! Didn't even finish half and took the rest to go. Definitely enjoyed this place and will want to come back the next time I am in Eagan again. read more

I love Hoban so very much. It's very nice since they remodeled, but it's been a while now. Very nice atmosphere. I love the kimchee. They have great tempura shrimp and veggies. Chicken Katsu, beef Bulgogi and Kalbi beef are all delish. But my favorite, favorite thing is the Dolsot Bibimbap. Rice, veggies, beef and an egg in a searing hot stone pot. I throw in some hot sauce, mix it up and let it sit for a few minutes, partly so it can cool down a bit, but also the hot pot will crisp up some of the rice and those bites are soooo good. Hoban is the perfect way to top off a day shopping at the outlet mall across the street. For the most part the staff is very friendly, but I did have one negative experience with a server there. I paid my bill at the front with a credit card, but I had left cash on the table for a tip. When I signed the receipt, the waitress (who was also cashiering since it was a slow time of day) asked me where her tip was. I've worked for tips before and was always taught asking for a tip was bad form. Even if she had just said "Was there something wrong with your meal or the service?", that would have been fine. But she straight up said "Where's my tip?" I was a little bit floored and very irritated. Oh well. It didn't stop me from coming here but that was a restaurant experience I will never forget, and I'd much rather have a positive unforgettable experience than a negative one. So happy to have found this place! Delicious affordable Korean food, perfect for dinner after a day of shopping at the outlets. It can get quite packed on the weekends, so I would try to get here around 6pm to beat the dinner rush and avoid waiting for more than an hour. My go-to dish here is the soondubu chigae with seafood - the broth, soft tofu, and loads of seafood are so comforting and flavorful. Portion is big enough to have leftovers. Other things I've really enjoyed are the seafood pajun (savory pancake) and the kalbi (really tender and well seasoned), which are both great for sharing with large groups. My only complaint would be the lack of variety with the side dishes (some Korean places have like 10+), but the ones they do have are pretty good. read more

I've come to eat here quite often. While their food is ok, the location is what makes me come here. I miss the actual grilling of meats. As far as I know, there are no Korean restaurants that offer grills at the tables. They are open daily from open to close. No lunch/dinner breaks here. Just come on in and get your Korean grub on. Again, I can't emphasize enough the disappointment in not being able to cook at the table. It really takes away from that dining experience. Food is above average here. Nothing to write home about. They do offer an extensive menu. You will be able to find all your noodle, rice cake, grilled meats, pancakes, and hot pot cravings here. If you are looking for specifics to try I'd wholeheartedly recommend their spicy wings, seafood pancakes and their kalbi. They also serve soju with some fruity flavors. I have yet to be disappointed here nor have I been mesmerized. Prices are reasonable and really close to where I live which is convenient. Never had any problems with parking. The restaurant shares the same plaza with Anytime Fitness so if you feel like eating Korean food right after your workout, it's very convenient. Feel free to reward yourself with some good tasting Kalbi after an intense work out. Or if you feel like singing your heart out, karaoke is right next door. read more

Hey if you want to try real Korean food this is the perfect place to come, they have a lot a good chooses soups are my favorite. Service is good but maybe you guys can smile little bit more in special the manager he is not really friendly. One BAD THING is the table which is in the entrance of the bathrooms is always dirty. Went there a few weeks ago craving some korean soup! Read rave reviews about this place and decided to go. Atmosphere- Place was spacious, nothing extraordinary. It seems like a nice place to come to late in the night, especially since its connected to a karaoke joint, which i'm going to come to sometime! Service- There really wasn't much service. Ordered a beer and never got it. When we went to pay i mentioned it to the older lady checking us out. She called over our waitress to address her about it and knocked the girls head with her knuckle....korean style! yaaahhh haha. I thought that was kinda funny. It was no big deal since I ordered a soup and wasn't sure how that would've gone down with a beer. However, we never received a water refill either :(. After our order was set she left and was not to be seen again. The food was brought out by somone else and that was pretty much it for service. Food- Shrimp tempura! damn you get a lot of extra stuff with it. I guess costing around $14 you should get some extra veggies. I really liked the tempura vegis and shrimp. I was however suprised that there was no sauce for it.. maybe it's just served at japanese restaraunts??? im not sure. Regardless it was delicious! We ordered a soup. I forgot the name of it. It had tofu, clams and some shrimp in it. The broth was very good, I however realized that I could have asked for it to be "hot," but going back the the service, he waiter never came back. It was still good though. There was wayyyy too much tofu for my liking, I finished all of the broth, but there was a lot of tofu left over. The clams and shrimp were verrrrrry tiny, I wasn't even sure there was shrimp in there lol. We also ordrered a chicken bulgogi. The chicken chuncks were plentiful and pretty big! However it costs extra for the lettus. I think it was $2. It was good, but nothing extraordinary. Overall- Service may need some work. Their menu was pretty large. We were going to go for one of the Hot Pots, but decided not to. Their korean bbq looked deeeeelicious, and I regret not ordering it. I am definately comming back to this place because I believe I have yet to experience what this place has to offer ( a LOT). mmmm writing this review makes me hungry for some korean. I'll be the first to disclaim my knowledge of Korean food is minimal at best, but thus far I have enjoyed Hoban on every visit. As a result of admitted ignorance, I'll keep this one short and sweet. The menu is large, the banchan are plentiful (and additional will be provided upon request) and tasty (especially the shoyu potatoes, kongnamul and kimchi) and the service is generally pretty friendly; efficient at worst. The price tag might be a bit higher than some of the other Korean joints in town, but still reasonable, and it becomes an afterthought after imbibing upon a Korea brewski or two. The location is nothing special, as it's anchoring a nondescript strip mall in suburbia, but you Eaganites are lucky to have a good one in your neighborhood. read more

This was my first Korean food experience years and years ago. I thought it was pretty good since I had nothing to compare it to, but over the ears, I've tried a few more places, and I'd have to give Hoban only a 3.5. It has a lot of the Korean options you'd look for, and the restaurant itself is clean and fine, but in general, tastes aren't amazing or anything note worthy. I remember prices being average though. Come here if you're in the area and are craving Korean, but if not, I wouldn't make the drive out. read more

This is my and my boyfriend's go-to Korean place when we need a Korean food fix - mostly because it's so close to where we live. However, I've tried a handful of their dishes and there isn't really anything bad to say about them! I'm a fan of the kalbi and soon du bu chigae and my boyfriend loves their chicken wings. I would also recommend their seafood pajun or any of their hot pots! Price is fair and service is great, really friendly staff! I go to this place once in awhile. One of my fave Korean spots in Minnesota if you're willing to spend the buck for it. Quality over quantity. More pricier than the one by the UofM but tastes better. Light, delicious, that melts in your mouth. Nice sweet taste to it. Kalbi the Korean short ribs. Nice well cooked and charred. Also ordered their Korean fried chicken wings.
