Jabchae
Lauren H.

Sadly, food is not as good as it used to be. Hoban used to be one of my fav Korean restaurants but not anymore. Service is still great. Ambiance is just okay. Food 3/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 3/5 Jabchae (3/5) noodles were good, meat was chewy and not quite tender Bulgogi (2/5) flavor was not as great as I remember last time I was here. Could have been served warmer.

I use to come here years ago a few times when there weren't many korean restaurants around. It's been a long time and I decided to drop by again and got their kimchi chigae. Perhaps my tastebuds are quite spoiled after eating korean food in Cali and Texas but it just definitely felt like my soup was just thrown together. It was okay that I was able to eat most of it (I do not like wasting food) but it just didn't feel fully authentic to me, like it was if I have attempted making at home. My kimchi pieces in the soup were definitely too big that it did take me a bit to eat, some pieces just tasted off too.. It was kind of hard to finish. I also always questioned why this place and a few other places in Minnesota charge for lettuce for lettuce wraps. Hoban charges $6+ for some lettuce, sauce, and jalapeño.. While many other Korean restaurants I've been to offer it for free. Overall, it was nostalgic coming back but I don't think I'll be missing their food.

We haven't been here for quite some time. We were riding our bicycles in the area and stopped by for lunch. They have a combination of my two favorite dishes. They mix the spicy pork and vegetables with the spicy octopus and vegetables. Together they make a great dish. We were able to split the meal and still had more than enough for lunch. The sliced jalapeños really added to spice level.

Dolsot bibimbap

Delicious Korean option in the Twin Cities! I have been looking for so long after moving for a good Korean restaurant. First, the fact that they give you a good variety of banchan with free refills is awesome. Many places in Minneapolis don't do that. The food options have all of my favorites. I loved the bibimbap, I got the Korean and pork option which was delicious. Prices are typical for this area, nothing crazy. Service was quick and friendly.

Bonchon was plentiful and responsively filled by an attentive staff.

A few years ago, I went to this restaurant with my children and had a disastrous experience. As great appreciators of Korean culture and cuisine, trying a new location was exciting. The perfect storm of terrible service and excessively sweetened food dashed our enthusiasm to return. At the time the owner and manager did read my yelp review and reached out. They offered us a meal on the house, but I never was able to return. Recently on a whim we decided to go back but pay for our own meal. The difference was notable. Not only were we immediately greeted, but every dish was cooked perfection and the right temperature. We had a vast array of appetizers and entrées. The service was perfectly attentive to the point that we never lacked for anything. Our water was refilled each time and we were offered additional dishes of Bonchon when they were emptied. I highly recommend this restaurant now. In fact, I would say it has become one of my favorite. I encourage you to run, not walk to try this exceptional Korean food if you are in the mood for exceptional service, and cuisine.

The ingredients tasted stale, probably because they don't get many customers. Also the plates were not clean, and there was no staff to serve us

So epic! They have so many incredible options, that it was difficult to choose just one. I also loved their specials and their innovation. I thought the service was exceptional, so kind and friendly and also efficient. The flavors were bold and delicious. The restaurant was clean and lots of natural light. Will be back!

Chicken Wings with Banchans
Raven T.

Fast, kind and attentive service. They asked more than once about refills on banchans which was amazing. The food was served quickly and was hot and flavorful. The chicken wings were crispy and looked delicious. We ordered the Bulgogi bowl and then Beef Bulgogi. Everything was piping hot temperature wise and it felt like I was back in Korea. The restaurant was clean and you couldn't hear any of the karaoke. We will definitely go back.

Napa cabbage with unusual brown objects between the leaves.

I've been coming here for years, but this visit was disappointing. The napa cabbage was wilted, covered in black speckles, and had several unusual brown objects between the leaves (see photos). The banchan, steamed rice, and bossam also seemed old and not very fresh, and the bossam had an unpleasant texture. The staff refunded the dish, which I appreciated, but the overall quality felt like it has gone downhill. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be returning.

Korean Fried Squid.

I've had Korean food around the country, and in Seoul as well. This restaurant has the best Korean fried squid I've ever had. The food here is fantastic. And it's in a nice location. For good Korean food, definitely outstanding!!

Kimchi Pajeonand Galbi
Leah T.

I have been going to Hoban for over 16 years and I still love it. The galbi was charred and sticky sweet.the banchan was deli as usual and the kimchi panjeon were delicious. I really wasn't too impressed with their wings but I guess you can't win them all.

Spicy cold buckwheat noodles
Kal S.

Been coming here for years as it is the only decent Korean restaurant south of the Twin Cities. Not all the dishes are a home run and some are not made in house. Over the years, some things have changed. The shrimp tempura is not as good as prior years etc. Here is what I do order when I'm here: Kalbi (marinated beef short ribs) with extra char Cold spicy buckwheat noodles (my fav) Spicy seafood tofu stew Spicy calamari stir fry Seafood pancake (hit or miss) Side dishes that are free-not as good as other places Service is good but I've had it bad as well. Plenty of free parking in the strip mall. Large and spacious dining room for large parties, although the carpet could use a good deep cleaning.

Soon dubu jigae
Anna H.

One of the og Korean restaurants around the twin cities area that's been around for years. I've been here copious amounts of times, each time I come it's because I'm craving the galbi and soon dubu jichae. I think the service has gotten better over the past few years. They are more attentive with your water, adding side dishes and the food comes out relatively fast even when the restaurant seems relatively busy. The pajeon was okay this time I had it, it was pretty soft which I prefer a bit crisper. The galbi and grilled mackerel were the stars of the show, the galbi was nicely charred and cooked to a medium wellness soo good. I was disappointed in the soon dubu jigae, way too salty this time. The japchae noodles were good, not sure if I'd get it every time because I've made it better myself at home, the noodles were a little overdone to my liking. This restaurant looks and feels older with the outdated carpets and booths. However, it does give you your Korean food fix! I like their kimchi here too.

The latter is one of my all time favorites from any restaurant, especially with some extra fried egg on it. I'd say the most important thing here is to look beyond the Korean fried chicken. They have so many other great and new (to me at least) items. I mentioned a few favorites. Another interesting one is the Mopo Corndog, mozzarella cheese covered with a breading that includes crunchy potato cubes. It sounds strange but it was really good. It looks like they've expanded their menu since I was there. But the fried rice and bao are just my go to order. I've only had pickup and I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes and the employees are kind. Food is hot and travels well. The only downside is it's a bit expensive, but it's worth it. FYI they don't advertise them but they do sell gift cards, I got one for the whole family last Christmas. It was definitely a favorite gift.

We ordered the Korean chicken sandwich that came with fries and the 10 piece soy garlic drums and flats. The fries tasted like oil, no salt or seasoning at all. Service was okay, nothing notable. The food did come out pretty fast for a full house. Unfortunately I will not be back for a while.

As far as I remember, Eagan location has more booths, which gives more traditional Japanese vibes. My chicken ramen was solid. Chicken was nicely grilled but the broth tased just like MSG. The noodles doesn't look premium (feels like packaged ramen) but overall I liked it. The pork meal was okay! The rice was oily and not much taste to it. It's also hard to eat out of the bowl without a spoon, which they don't provide. Japanese fries are a must-try; it's large not too salty and the sauces are just phenomenal. Service was good but a little slow. It was dinner time on Friday, so they were probably very busy. We pressed the button two times but they didn't come. They automatically charged 18% gratuity fees so you don't have to tip them if you don't want to. Boba bar is right at the entrance!! The brown sugar was phenomenal. They want you to sit and wait until they pick up the check in order to pay. The real question is, should tip be added when you are a tavle of two and you waited 20 minutes + when you are ready to order and when you are waiting for them to pick up your check when dine in is not less than 10 people. Maybe just suburban thing imo

I love love LOVE this place! So many good memories and more to come!…read more The first time I was here was the night of my bacholorette party-- I have always wants to find a Korean karaoke place in twin cities so some friends and I ubered here and it was a blast! Sang our hearts out that night to lots of kpop, jpop, and other random songs of course! (I am biased, but my fav is singing BTS, favorite song is Epiphany because you can sing your feelings out hardcore on that one)! The staff is so friendly, inviting, and amazing! They made us feel soooo welcomed here! The twins are amazing-- just great guys and they checked in on us many times throughout our night! It was a blast! We ate, drank, and sang the night away! I even made a new friends that night and we have been coming back ever since! I will continue to be back, and the Hoban is great toooo! Overall, can't say enough good things about the service and food and atmosphere! Love it so much! I will be back again, many times I'm sure! BTS FOR LIFE!!! We called the day before to make a reservation for Saturday night and there were very few spots available. We snagged a 8-10PM slot. You enter through Hoban (which smelled delicious), and then are led through a hallway with various rooms. It reminded me of practice rooms in the music department or a college. Except...they aren't soundproof. We got a large room for 6 people because that was what was available, but the small room looked like it would have done the job. The host explained the karaoke system and we were singing. Full disclosure: the remote is in Korean-but there's a piece of paper that explains the controls. There was a...unique list of songs. We had no problem finding songs to sing, but some specific songs would be missing (I.e. sometimes the artists' most popular songs wouldn't be there, but obscure singles would be there). It was pretty random for what would be available. You have full access to the menu at Hoban and drinks while in the karaoke room. We already ate, but we ordered drinks. We were having so much fun that we asked the host if we could extend our time. Online said they closed at 4AM, but we were informed that they actually close at 10PM. All in all, I hope to be back!

The whole ambience and vibe of the restaurant is really nice. Granted, we were the only people there at the time, but it's still a really cozy and relaxing atmosphere in my opinion. The waitress that helped us was more than kind as well. Very nice, great service. The only thing I wish they would've asked is if we wanted the bill split, they just brought it to both of us. I was with my sister so we had to split it later. We didn't want to inconvenience them so we just paid the full bill. The BBQ pork bun was absolutely amazing. For only $5.50, I would recommend getting it as an appetizer. It's a fairly decent size too so you could split it with at least one other person. Or, you could have the whole thing to yourself!!! I'll probably get one just for me next time. I liked the chicken satay skewers. Those are really good. But, I was expecting more than just two small chicken skewers for the cost. Really good flavor though. Then we got sushi rolls. They were all fantastic. I remember I got the Ooka Roll. It's the most expensive role on the menu, but it's fantastic. I think we also got the 150th roll. Also fantastic. Overall, I really recommend this place if you want some sushi. Just be prepared to pay a lot of money. If you need a cheaper option, there are other sushi places that are a bit cheaper close by. But these guys are very good and I will be back. I would rate 4.5 out of 5 stars, but Yelp only lets me do full stars - so I'm bumping it up to a 5. I'm excited to try their hibachi when we go back, and more sushi.
