I've always loved this place. I used to work at Sam's Burgers, so I'd come here anytime I had money to spare and when I needed a break from our burgers. Good amount of meat to bread ratio. Kid had the fish burger which she loved, I had the mushroom philly wished there were more mushrooms. Went here recently with a co-worker and had an absolutely awesome meal. It's a small mom & pop run restaurant that's been serving-up hoagies in the East Bay for over 20 years. The menu is rather extensive, so figuring-out what to order after hearing about this place was my first objective. There are so many hoagies to choose from, along with chicken hoagies, burgers, fish & chips, deli sammies and Teriyaki plates. I opted for a Deluxe Hoagie that included grilled mushrooms, bell peppers and provolone cheese. I was impressed with the amount of meat they put inside the hoagie. The thinly cut steak was cooked perfectly and by adding the mushrooms and bell peppers was just perfect. The hoagie was delicious, quite filling and included an order of their awesome fries. Their fries were cooked perfectly as they were crispy on the outside. What a bonus to get an order of fries with your hoagie. The very nice lady even gave us an onion ring as a bonus. My co-worker ordered a Deluxe Hoagie "monster" style, which just included more awesome meat and cheese. They have a couple of tables inside if you're lucky enough to grab one. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were patient as we gazed at the menu and decided what we were going to order. Once seated, they checked on us to make sure everything was just right. Having lived on the east coast and trying Pats and Geno's, I can't say having a Hoagy Steak is the same, but it fills the craving. Only complaint is that I wish the steak was trimmed a bit better. I did get some fatty pieces. Not going to hate too much because it is a mom and pop shop. Fries nothing special though very happy they were crinkle cut. Though typical restaurant industry. On East 14th in San Lenadro you'll find Hoagy Steak. Looks like a mom and pop operation which I have a soft spot for in my travels. Unpretentious venue , I put my order in and it came out within 10 minutes. I enjoyed that they had Mexican Jarritos on tap. How was the cheesteak?? (Pausing) It ... was....good . I think this venue for me was a 3.5 star in terms of taste but the friendly vibe and quick prompt service pump it up to a 4 star venue for me. The fries were uneventful for me and perhaps upgrading/changing the fries/providing different fry options could make it a solid 4 maybe even 4.5 star venue for me. Steak sub is great. Seasoned well on a nice toasted soft roll, and will use real cheese instead of the Philly cheese whiz. I appreciate the freshly grilled steak and they do a decent stack.
