We had a great experience here last night! The service was great and the sushi was amazing as usual. We were seated immediately (it was around the start of the dinner rush. Food: We ordered 4 types of nigiri: salmon, salmon belly, fatty tuna, and crab. And we also ordered the spicy 2 in 1, which is a favorite! We also ordered the shishito peppers and asked for them extra charred. Everything was incredibly fresh and very delicious. I personally wouldn't ordered the fatty tuna again because it is a bit pricy and it wasn't my favorite but I could tell it was very fresh. The salmon belly here is my hands down favorite! Another favorite that I didn't order this particular trip was the salad with both dressings. Service: Our server was friendly and attentive. No issues whatsoever. Atmosphere: Relaxed and chic. There was live music which was awesome! We sat on the opposite side of the music so we could talk better but we could still here it. We sat next to the wine cellar, which was fun to look at. Took about an hour and a half to get our 4 sushi rolls... ordered calamari for an appetizer where on the menu it says "$5" for the happy hour price. Get our bill and the calamari is $8, when asked about it we basically were told we have to pay that price since the waitress forget to tell us it isn't a happy hour item anymore... how am I supposed to know that if we aren't told?! Then, the manager came over, for what reason I'm not sure, besides him saying "oh that's just the price now" and that's all he said... why are we paying this price since the waitress couldn't even tell us it isn't a happy hour item? I must admit, Blue has always been my go-to sushi place in Omaha--and their happy hour is one of the best in my opinion. But lately I have been going to Hiro since they opened off 180th & Q, and I must say that it is now becoming my go-to place!! I LOVE that they have all day happy hour on Sundays, which is usually when we go. Multiple times I have been with a large group, and I feel we can order and try a bunch of different rolls all for a reasonable price. They have many rolls, appetizers, and drinks on special during happy hour. I think each time we go we try different rolls and end up loving them! The food has been delicious, the place is always clean, and staff are always pleasant. I think the only fault I can find is that sometimes service is very slow at this location. Multiple times we have been there and have to wait an unreasonable amount of time to order or to receive our check. This past visit just yesterday resulted in us waiting almost 20 minutes after being done eating for our check to arrive; we then found our waiter SITTING at another table casually chatting with two couples. It was very frustrating as the place was dead, so to see him sitting and chatting was disappointing. Overall, I'm a fan. The food is delicious. First visit to this location, and disappointed to find they have adopted the irritating Blue Sushi policy of offering happy hour only in the bar area. We never experienced that at the downtown location, so knew no better until after we were seated. That certainly influenced what and how much we ordered. Maybe that's the intent. Food was delicious, though again, the downtown location surpasses -- especially with the addictive spicy tuna rolls. Scallops were very good, and we love the dumplings -- I could make a meal of them! Our server was pleasant and conversant. Atmosphere, nice, quiet, great date location. That said, I'll hit the downtown location after work before heading home, rather than pay more based on where I'm sitting at this location. Only three stars because that happy hour thing irritates me so. This was our first visit to this - or any - Hiro 88. Keeping in mind that we are in Omaha, in the middle of America, nowhere near fresh seafood, I still wasn't impressed with the sushi or anything else...even by Omaha standards. We arrived on Friday night just before the end of Happy Hour, so at least the disappointment wasn't quite as expensive as it could have been. We ordered the calamari, Spicy California Roll, and crispy garlic beef. The calamari was (1) incredibly bland and tasteless (even the sauce didn't help, mostly because it had zero salt, and squeezed lemon juice did little to help), and (2) it was very thick and rubbery. In fact, it was the most tough and rubbery calamari I have ever had. Between chewing on a piece of rubber and the fact that the rubber was bland and tasteless, even happy hour pricing was too much. The Spicy California Roll was 'meh'. Lastly, the crispy garlic beef was ok...no complaints about it. The total for all the above, plus one mango mojito, was $34 with tax (again, it was happy hour). Service was great, the atmosphere was good, but the food was not good enough to warrant a return visit. Disappointing. I will say this: the location has a good overall rating, so maybe we hit at a bad time or had a bad cook and sushi chef. Still, no excuse for bland, rubbery food. read more

Hiro is also my go to sushi spot in Omaha. The fish is consistently fresh and the rolls are unique and tasty. I also enjoy some of the smaller hot plates such as salmon belly, sautéed jalapeños and bok choy. With the 132nd and maple location closed for the summer, I found myself venturing out west to this newer location. I went to Hiro with some work colleagues over the lunch hour. There were four other tables in the restaurant, two of which arrived after us. It took our server, Taylor, 25 minutes to take our drink order. We told her we need to order our food now, too, because we have a work meeting at the 12:30. Taylor responded "yep, so does everyone else here!" It ended up taking us another 30 minutes to get our food. Two of my colleagues were given soup instead of salad (none of us ordered soup). We were never offered any apology, or a quick "so sorry about the delay" from anyone working. Every single table, including the two who came in after us, were leaving when we just got our food. I went during Happy Hour and it made me exceptionally happy. Hiro had a good selection of items on the HH Menu. I had the spicy bloody mary (Husker something or another) and it really hit my spiciness needs. I also opted in for so heated sushi. I had the Hiro Crunch and the Wasabi Stinger. My favorite was the Hiro Crunch. It was a warm roll that had been battered and fried. It was perfect. Service was great. We had a 1 year old with us and he was very focused on making sure the baby and us girls were happy. The atmosphere was a bit more intimate than other sushi joints during HH. I'm so upset I could cry. We went out for a celebratory dinner at our favorite place and it was bad enough that we will NEVER go back. Got there at 6:30 pm on a Sunday right after finding some good news and our girls softball game. Firstly, It took about 10 min to get our server over to us. Nbd we knew it was busy. I filled out my entire order sheet before he even came over. Elliot was his name. So to start off with, our dumplings came out ice cold. I'm not exaggerating, barely cooked. It was awful. Server didn't come back over so I had to flag down the "manager". They sent them back and we waited and waited. For over an hour and our food never came, finally, corrected dumplings came out. After that we waited even longer for our food. 2 tables next to us had came after us, ate, and left. After getting the manager, again, he went to check on our food bc we had been there about an hour and a half at this point. Food and sushi came out after another 15 min, at the same time. So much for the sushi before the meal. You could tell the sushi had been sitting there a while. It wasn't that good. And out Yins chicken was soggy and dry. Not as good as it usually is. To sum it all up after two hours, our food showed up mediocre, we had to ask for forks about 4 different times, the manager charged us an additional $4 for some side sauces without telling us they had a charge, the dumplings were cold, and my boyfriend went and ordered a drink from the bar at one point bc our server would disappear for twenty minutes at a time. Our tab ended up being about $98 and they didn't offer to take off or give any sort of discount for the awful experience! If I feel like hiro again, I'll just make my way over the maple one. I placed a Togo order over the phone for the first time and this nice young woman answered the phone and she walked me through the menu and her favorite items to order. She was beyond helpful and her recommendations were superb. I asked if I should pay over the phone and she told me I could pay when I came in to the restaurant. When I arrived, the nice woman that answered the phone greeted me and helped me checkout and pay for my order. This place sucks. Their service is what sucks, I should clarify. The food, if you can get it, is okay. I should know, I've been there four times. 3 times haven't worked out. Today we called to place an order at 4:30, and asked if it was okay to order at 4:30 for a 6:30 pickup, they said absolutely; so we arrive to Hiro at 6:30 to pickup the order. They said "not ready. it will just be a few minutes". Fast forward to 7pm, I finally got my order and talked to a manager, Ryan, who simply said they don't guarantee their pickup times. They 100% didn't start working on my order until I got there to pick it up. He was not apologetic at all, basically didn't give two shits. Drive home famished, get home, unload the bag, feels pretty light for our $120 order, found out that it was missing 4 appetizers. Call the store, talk to Ryan, he tries to convince me that it would be a good solution for me to just drive back to the store and wait some more to get those 4 appetizers. I'd been to Hiro 88 on a few occasions for a quick happy hour bite, and have always enjoyed my meal but last night was noteworthy! My fam took our Groupon in around 6:30, and were delighted to see a singer/piano player set up in the bar. We asked for a seat near him, and felt relaxed from the moment we sat down. What a nice touch! Listening to his versions of The Beatles, Elton John, and Jackson Browne songs was really an added bonus. My cocktail came in a sturdy glass with large craft ice cubes, and a decent well. In addition, we were delighted with the new rolls we selected. First, the Naked California- a roll with a cucumber wrap instead of rice and seaweed. I'd love it if Hiro would consider more versions of these rolls- they were light and tasty! Our ultimate favorite was the Wasabi Stinger- with tempura Shrimp, crab, and other delightful ingredients it was art on a plate! This restaurant is beautiful and spotless, definitely a classy spot in Millard! I left my dinner at Hiro relaxed and full, with a resolve to come back again- most likely on a Thursday! read more

I have gone to hiros many times... the last was about 1 year ago and was not sure I would go back because of food and service. Tried again today and will never go back. I guess they had a 50 guest party that was far more important than the restaurant clientele. Waitress was nice was over worked.. waited 15 plus minutes for one sushi roll Then additional 20 minutes for main course and though the food was good was not sure if mine was shrimp Kung pau..there was not any peanuts with this dish but of course I could not ask the server because she was too busy with the 50 guests at the party!!
