Been here multiple times now and almost always satisfied. Service is fine but we were in late on Friday and it was SO LOUD. Plus we got seated in one of those long community booths so you can hear everyone's conversation around you. My favorite is the peanut butter chicken, some of the best I have ever had. My fiancé generally goes with the sushi and it is always good. The drinks are ok, generally have good luck with the rotating taps. The prices are on the high side, so if you can hit happy hour, I would recommend it. read more

Went yesterday, the food was very good as we have always found it, but our server left a lot to be desired. He was very cold and matter of fact. Never introduced himself, never cracked a smile. My water. Glass was empty and pushed to the edge of our table for 10 minutes, and was never refilled until I finally stopped him on one of his many trips past our table and asked for a carafe of water for the table. He did not hesitate to take my mojito glass off the table without asking if I was finished with it, which I wasn't. Never once after our food arrived did he stop to ask if we needed anything or if everything was alright. I called a day early to ask about any msg in the food because I can't have it. The waitress could not answer and the general manager could not answer without checking with the owners first (no chefs?). I called right after lunch rush. I realize this is a sushi place but there are other dishes. it seemed like a pretty general question and one that you would want to know in the case of any adverse reactions. As managers go, jmo he seemed wound too tight to me over the phone and I was just asking a benign question. He didn't offer to phone me back. The waitress was a little too loud and on hyper-drive considering we were the only table in the restaurant at the time. The best dining experience is wait staff that is attentive but in the background to your conversation. Loud doesn't allow that. That being said, since it was my first visit I would give it another try before checking it off my list. read more

I love this place, I tried sushi for the first time and they were so helpful. I love the Rainbow Roll and Californai Roll and I also love there short ribs for an appetizer. Being from Japan, for us, this is the best sushi place in Lincoln. Of course, it can't be as fresh as somewhere on the coast, but for Nebraska, they do a pretty good job. Nice selection, well presented, in a clean, modern setting that is good for a date or a group. The Japanese portions of the menu are fairly authentic, and even the Americanized rolls are pretty good. When we miss food from Japan, we take a trip here. read more

My girlfriend found a hair in her drink at lunch. I was expecting the drink to be taken off the bill, but it wasn't. Seems like common courtesy right? I think so anyway... I also found out that not only did I have to pay for the drink that was remade, but the server had to pay for the drink that was thrown away. Purchased the GroupOn for Hiro88 the description was for "$26 for $50 worth of dinner for four or more, valid Monday-Thursday". I took my wife and kids to this here to enjoy a family night out. It was around 6pm on a Thursday and there were four of us meeting the requirements for the GroupOn, although my children are young 5 and 2 we've generally been able to find something on the menu that they will enjoy (at least we have an the Sushi place down the street). As we went into Hiro88 there was a sign on the door stating to let your waiter know that you intend to use a GroupOn. The hostess sat us, we asked if we could get a high chair for ours littlest. The hostess relied that they didnt have highchairs. So not a huge deal we figured she could sit on our lap and we all started to look at the menu. About 5 minutes later our waitress appears and I tell her about the GroupOn. She overlooks it and tells me that she'll have to ask her manager if she can use it. I asked why and she replied "It states its for four people". I look at her puzzled and then look at the four of us and said that "there are four of us". A manager can over a minute later and said that the GroupOn is for four meals not people and that we couldn't use it. So we ended up leaving feeling embarrassed that other people around watching us come in and then leave a few minutes later and angered that Hiro88 doesn't recognize my kids as "people". Save your money and go down the street to Dozo's great food and MUCH more kid friendly. Later I reviewed the GroupOn's fine print when we returned home and NOTHING in the fine print stated it had to be four meals. The closes fine print stated "Must purchase 1 food item." Which obviously we were going to do. After complaining to GroupOn, they gladly refurned my GroupOn purchase and I have informed pretty much everyone I know about my first experience at Hiro88. UPDATE: The Manager and I had personal messages back and forth regarding this event and I'd like to say that the manager was very prompt in his responses back and making every effort to rectify this scenario. He seemed very sincere in his apologize about this event, and I will probably go back for another try. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Hiro last night, hungry and excited to try it for the first time. We were taken to our table, situated very close to two other couples to where it was uncomfortable to have a conversation without being heard by both of them. I got over it. The waiter greeted us, brought our waters. When he came back to ask for our orders I specified that we were almost ready but just needed a couple minutes. We were ready to order within a couple minutes. I then watched him attend to a new table, bring checks for two tables, bring food for another table, check up on another table and run to the kitchen all while avoiding eye contact with us. This whole process involved our table not being checked on for 10-15 minutes, which is a long time given that a sit down meal usually takes a total of an hour tops. When he came back asking if we'd had enough time I said that we had been ready to order and handed him our completed sushi menu. From that point on, it was a shit show. He continued to avoid our table and acted rushed/was not polite despite my attempts to "make up with him" by being nice and thanking him dutifully. I work in food service and am typically over the top polite to waiters/waitresses but this time it seemed as if he wanted to focus more on well dressed middle aged couples than two 25 year olds out on a date. I had no complaints with the sushi. Upon leaving we had no choice but to leave him a $10 tip on a 40 dollar bill just so he could chew on it and reevaluate his behavior. Not excited about the down treatment, step it up. You're displaying blatant classism when you should act like every customer is valuable. You can't assume that people who are dressed fancy are going to tip you well and shit on other customers. I will continue to eat at Blue and Tokyo where I'm treated with respect. I love and eat sushi regularly so you just lost some good business. read more

They failed to honer a perfectly good groupon on a ridiculous technicality. The parameters of this groupon are too stringent. I went in to Hiro 88 with three friends to use this coupon was told no matter how much food we ordered the Groupon would not be accepted if we did not have a fourth person. It is a completely Assinine rule considering we ordered a good amount of food. I've been to this location many times and even drove an hour away to the sister restaurants because they have the best sushi in Nebraska. However, after today's experience I'm not sure I can continue to give them my business. I first tried to make a reservation on the website through Open Table and was unable to so I called. For parties of 8 or morethey take your credit card information and charge you $10 for every person that doesn't show up. I originally was going to make a reservation for 15, but we had 2 people that were unsure that they were able to make it. I did not want to be charged an additional $20 for nothing and I asked if we were to come right at 10pm if we would be able to get a table without a reservation. The manager said it would be busy but when we arrived it was not. There were probably only 3 tables sat. We ended up having 16 and when I told the host about the change she was rude and said there was no way we could add another table or move to another area since they had already set up the table. The restaurant had many free open tables but was unable to accommodate us. The host told us to "make it work" and we ended up splitting into different tables. One table of 12 and a table of 4. We did not order together. After the okay service we were automatically charged 20% gratuity. The food is good, but if you happen to have a big party, I wouldn't bother coming here. Maybe order a togo platter and have people come to your house. read more

My first visit here was on 07/02/2015. Came in solo so grabbed a seat at the bar. Server was very polite and quick. I wanted to try some of the dishes that other Yelp reviewers have given great reviews of so had some of the Tuna Sashimi as well as an Unagii roll with an appetizer of the Edamame. I had never tried the prior two and to whoever the reviewer was that said Filet Mignon has nothing on this couldn't have been more correct. It tastes exactly like a rare cut of the most tender filet. Unagi roll was delicious as well and I always enjoy Edamame. And what a bonus at the end, it was "roll the dice Thursday" where the manager comes over and you roll the dice to see what your meal discount will be. Worst you can do is no discount with snake eyes or double sixes and I got 54% off my total tab! There are several choices for Sushi in the Lincoln market I enjoy now and you can add Hiro 88 to to top of my list now! read more

A friend and I recently went for dinner at Hiro 88 in the Haymarket. We ordered one appetizer and two sushi rolls. We kept it simple and were pleased by the service. There was some confusion on the final bill, as our taste buds did not fancy the particular appetizer we ordered (although I know it is quite popular!) Anyways, the issue was promptly addressed and corrected by the general manager. We will most likely be returning soon to continue sampling the extensive and enticing menu options! I love the fact that you texted us when our table for 10 was ready, and the hosting staff was very polite and helpful. The server was great and very patient with our big group, and was extremely organized. As a former server myself, I value the fact that other staff members helped out with drinks and food, especially with a big group like ours. We were very satisfied with the service overall! Sushi was fresh and delicious (as usual) and the drinks were great too! Our server recommended the chocolate cake for desert, and I'm glad we caved in because it was really wonderful. I ate at Hiro 88 tonight with my husband and our daughter. We came in around 7:30pm and were surprised to find out that it was "dice night," something we had never seen before. I'm not the type to go online and review a restaurant, but felt impelled after the delightful evening we had. We are new to Asian cuisine, so we had many questions that were quickly answered by our server, Jordan. We will be requesting her next visit. The manager greeted us after being sat, and again after our meal to roll dice. This is a brilliant concept in my mind. We loved how energetic and professional the manager was. My wife and I settled on this for our anniversary. We like this type of food and have heard good things. To start off, it's a beautiful restaurant, clean and attractive. The staff were great, friendly and attentive and our waiter was one of the best we have had any where. The drinks were good and the crab rangoon appetizer is easily the best I've had, any where. But that's where it ends. I know that is primarily a sushi restaurant and if that's what you want, I am sure you will be pleased. If you are looking for upscale Chinese food, as we were, you will need to look elsewhere. The wife ordered the braised scallops. They arrived covered in what was to be a tempura batter and soaking in a bowl full of salty broth. The breading was so ridiculously hard she couldn't penetrate it with her fork and had to ask for a steak knife. With this, she was able to get to the tough, stringy scallops inside which she described as distinctly fishy tasting. I ordered the teriyaki chicken. It was the toughest stringiest chicken I've ever had at a restaurant and while the sauce had a vague teriyaki aftertaste, it was so salty I could barely eat it. The waiter came by and noticed my wife still struggling to eat the scallops and asked how they were. When she told him that they "weren't very good" he immediately offered to replace them with something else and took them away bringing her a chicken fried rice dish that she stated was "fine". Unfortunately the small amount of the scallops that she was able to eat left her feeling ill for the remainder of the evening. I want to stress that I am willing to concede that we ordered poorly and that this place seems to thrive on its sushi business which, by all accounts, it does very well. I was just shocked at how bad the food we ordered was. Again, the waiter was brilliant and did an amazing job trying to make things right so no complaints there. Just a bad experience with what seemed like it should have been an easy deal for a place that does sushi as well as it seems to. read more
