My wife and I settled on this for our anniversary. We like this type of food and have heard good things. To start off, it's a beautiful restaurant, clean and attractive. The staff were great, friendly and attentive and our waiter was one of the best we have had any where. The drinks were good and the crab rangoon appetizer is easily the best I've had, any where. But that's where it ends. I know that is primarily a sushi restaurant and if that's what you want, I am sure you will be pleased. If you are looking for upscale Chinese food, as we were, you will need to look elsewhere. The wife ordered the braised scallops. They arrived covered in what was to be a tempura batter and soaking in a bowl full of salty broth. The breading was so ridiculously hard she couldn't penetrate it with her fork and had to ask for a steak knife. With this, she was able to get to the tough, stringy scallops inside which she described as distinctly fishy tasting. I ordered the teriyaki chicken. It was the toughest stringiest chicken I've ever had at a restaurant and while the sauce had a vague teriyaki aftertaste, it was so salty I could barely eat it. The waiter came by and noticed my wife still struggling to eat the scallops and asked how they were. When she told him that they "weren't very good" he immediately offered to replace them with something else and took them away bringing her a chicken fried rice dish that she stated was "fine". Unfortunately the small amount of the scallops that she was able to eat left her feeling ill for the remainder of the evening. I want to stress that I am willing to concede that we ordered poorly and that this place seems to thrive on its sushi business which, by all accounts, it does very well. I was just shocked at how bad the food we ordered was. Again, the waiter was brilliant and did an amazing job trying to make things right so no complaints there. The eel rolls were good but the tuna rolls were bad. The tuna was mushy and had a bad aftertaste. We won't be back for sushi.

I love the hiro 88 locations in Omaha, but I had a horrible experience at the location in the Rail Yard. I ordered my usually sushi order and was disappointed when the first bite tasted chemically. I tried another bite, hopeful it was all in my head, with the same result. When our waitress finally came over, I told her the sushi tasted odd. She then proceeded to eat a piece of the roll off my plate, agreed it tasted bad and tried to help me pick out another roll. She then came back and said her manager wouldn't comp. the horrible tasting roll because I'd eaten too much of it.. I doubt she admitted to her manager she'd eaten a piece right off my plate. I was so disappointed by my experience, I will never return to this location. Update: The manager reached out to me after I posted this review and apologized for my negative experience. I think Hiro is a great restaurant and this was an isolated experience. To be fair: The server sent me an angry message saying I failed to mention that she did eventually comp the roll. However, she only comped it after we told her we were going to post a review about our experience. You shouldn't have to threaten/argue with a server to get proper customer service. read more

I usually really like Hiro. I ate there last night around 10 pm. We waited 15 mins to be greeted after being sat, despite it not being very busy and several servers walking past and making eye contact. We finally flagged down a host to find our server. She apologized and did a fine job after that, but nothing was offered to compensate for being ignored. Oh well. Our drinks were delicious, mango mojitos, bloody marys, and a cosmo. The food was really good too. We had the Vegas roll, the Wasabi stinger, and the Cinco de mayo. The Wasabi Stinger has a really unique flavor. That being said we'll probably go to blue instead next time because their service is much better. read more

A group of 4 of us had 6pm reservations before the concert last Friday. Upon arriving, it was PACKED and our group was told that there was atleast an hour wait for our reservation. We figured we would wait as we had plenty of time before the concert and wouldn't mind having a drink at the bar while we waited. We went over to the bar we waited 30 minutes to try to get a drink and were not even attended to. They were VERY under staffed and overwhelmed. I love Hiro in Omaha and have never had a problem there. I was VERY disappointed with the service and do not plan on going back anytime soon. read more

I have never tried sushi before but a coworker at my table had me try some. I had a spring roll, a Hiro's Crunch Roll and a Philadelphia Roll. They were all delicious! I also had The Sesame Chicken for my main dish and it was very good. Came with rice and a salad which were excellent as well! The restaurant was very clean and our waitress was very professional and friendly. I can't say anything bad about this place. I will definitely be back! read more

This is another Chinese owned sushi place and I would never order sushi from such establishment. The decoration was modern, bright, and designer did a fantastic job with the place. The udon was very good. The chicken teriyaki was served cold in the bento box, the first for me. Other restaurants served hot. Service was ok. Very upsetting and disappointed with the house cleaning while we were eating. Never again. read more

After having a very unpleasant experience across the street at Longwell's I brought my 89-year-old grandmother to Hiro for lunch. There were 4 total in our party and we were all very happy with our food & our service. Everyone was so friendly! Even though they were slightly busy our server took time to explain to my grandmother about sushi and how to eat it. She even took the time to show her how to use the chopsticks! It was her first experience with sushi and she wasn't thrilled with it, but she did love her Asian entree. We will be back! read more

I had a very poor experience here on Sunday evening. I came with 3 friends to celebrate an engagement. Three of us ordered cocktails, and we requested a bottle of champagne. We got our cocktails and marked our food orders on the paper menu, but an hour later, our server had yet to return. When she finally did, she explained that the computer system was down and that she could not put in any orders. She said she had no idea when it would be back up, and gave us the choice of waiting indefinitely or leaving. We decided to leave, but she told us she could not even produce our check, and she would have to go "figure out" how much it was. When she returned 15 minutes later, she still had not figured out our total. I politely asked if we could leave, since we were all very hungry and it was obvious we weren't going to be getting our food from Hiro. She said that was fine, we tipped her what would have amounted to 50% of our total bill, and left. When we were ACROSS THE STREET, she came running after us with a bill that included not only the 3 cocktails we had, but the whole bottle of champagne we never received. She was clearly flustered and told us that she would have to pay the whole $50 bill if we did not. Because we didn't want her to have to pay anything, we returned to speak to the manager. I don't know what his name was, but he was the rudest restaurant manager I have ever met. He never once apologized for our wait and not being able to eat. He insisted we pay for the three cocktails, although he could not produce a correct bill, and we had already paid at least 50%. There was ZERO concern for customers. We waited an hour only to find out we could not eat there. He should have apologized and comped our (maybe $14 total?) tab for the inconvenience, but instead, he was very rude and insisted it was OUR FAULT if our waitress had to pay our (incorrect) bill. We eventually ended up paying for our drinks (and more) and I hope that poor waitress got her tip. I won't be going back to Hiro 88 again. read more

I've previously had been here many many times and wasn't very impressed with the service. A few weeks ago, I came in for drinks with the girls and because we had a to-go box from dinner at the restaurant we were just at, the bartender (who's always been rude to us before) kicked us out for having food from outside without even greeting us. As we were walking out, the hostess (believe her name was Natalie, said she was recently hired a few months ago) felt sincerely bad that we were treated so horribly so she offered to put the to-go box in her hostess closet while we sat outside on the patio and had drinks. I've never had such kind hospitality from a hostess before. Our service was outstanding for the rest of the night. As we were leaving she brought us the to-go box with some mints and apologized again for the mishap earlier. Will return again, their service has improved significantly with new hires and I've been telling everyone who's had a bad experience here before to give it another try. My husband and I came for my birthday and both had a drink, mine was a delicious tropical Mai Tai tini and my husband had Sake. We began the meal with a salad, which was a fresh, light bowl of greens and topped with a choice of carrot ginger dressing or sesame garlic (if memory serves). Both dressings were very tasty, obviously fresh made and complimentary to the greens. We also ordered crab Rangoon and Korean short ribs. Both were phenomenal! For entrées we ordered the teriyaki salmon and the Imperial shrimp. I have to say, I do not care for salmon. But my husband insisted I taste it and I would definitely eat a plate of that! To finish the meal, we ordered the Xenon cheesecake which we shared. The entire experience was wonderful. The server was friendly and helpful and the food was all fantastic. The entire bill, before tip was $69. We would not typically order 2 appetizers and dessert had it not been a special occasion so I think you could have a nice date here for a reasonable price. First of all, I will say that the food at Hiro is pretty good. The sushi presented nicely, the Chinese is always hot and fresh, and the service is always great. That being said, it saddens me that the last time my wife and I went to Hiro (about 2 days ago) we were sitting in the front of the sushi dining room, near the sushi chefs (our favorite spot) and I noticed after we were done eating that there was a COCKROACH!!!!!! crawling on the wall by the curtain to the kitchen and the computer the servers use to order. I immidiatly felt sick to my stomach, and because of that I will no longer be a loyal customer. Nothing agaisnt the food and service, but if there are cockroaches crawling in the dining room, I can't even imagine WHAT the kitchen must look like. I will now take my business to Blue or Kinja, and I will also stop recomending Hiro. Word of advice to any Hiro employees, managment or owners...get your restaurant cleaned up! read more

We wanted to try this restuarant out bc we are sushi enthusiasts. And normally, I'm not one to write reviews or bash on any place, however, last night was a bad experience that I rarely encounter eating out. Our server was nice at first. We'd ordered some tea, two appitizers, 3 rolls, and a large sashimi plate. Tea, appitizers, and rolls were good, no complaints there.The sashimi plate however, was HORRIBLE! The fish were flavorless and had a weird texture. I knew immediately that they fish had been in frozen for a long period of time. There were still frozen chunks inside of a few pieces. The worst fish on the plate were the fatty tuna, which we paid an upcharge for. The fish were falling apart as I picked it up. When asked about it, they simply said that's how it's suppose to be. I've had fatty tuna before and none were like so. I also noticed our server putting on her jacket and leaving in the middle of dinner. I thought maybe she was taking a break, but long after our food was gone and teas ran dry, she still hadn't show up. We asked other servers about out server and they just simply asked if we were done and needed our check. What if we wanted more drinks or desserts? Our dinner isn't over just bc our server decides to leave in the middle of it! We didn't plan on complaining about the fish but after what happened with our server, I decided to speak up. They said they couldn't do anything for us as we had ate most of our food. I'm ok with that answer as I agree that we should have spoken up instead of keeping quite for the sake of not being needy customers.They offered to give us a piece of cake to go which we did take. The sashimi plate was $41 with an upcharge for the fatty tuna of $7, which makes it $48 worth of horrible fish. Our bill was $118.42. This dinner was hard to swallow and not worth the price. We will not be returning nor recommending this place. read more
