Excellent. I came with large a group while visiting family. It's inside the Grand Manse building, so it can be a little tricky to find. Service was great, even with a large group. I had the Pad See Ew with beef and it was fantastic. This is my typical dish at Thai restaurant and it was some of the best I've ever had. Always a great experience here! I generally come here with my mom for special occasions and we get the same things (Orchid Chicken and Garlic & Ginger). Each time we've had consistently great food and warm, positive service. Emily, Emma, & Jake were excellent examples of professional service you don't see nowadays from the meal we just had. The one complaint I have is that the Diet Coke is rather flavorless/bland, but their curated cocktail menu looks absolutely well-done! Avoid This Place at All Costs! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. First off, we had a reservation for our party of 8, so they knew we were coming. Despite that, it took over an hour for our food to arrive. When we finally asked the manager/owner about the delay, she had the audacity to tell us that it's "normal" for people to wait 55 minutes for food here. Seriously?? But wait, it gets worse. She went on to explain that she prioritized smaller tables (like couples) who came in after us because we were a larger group. So basically, if you're not a table of two, you're out of luck. It's infuriating to think that our reservation--and our time--meant so little to them. The food wasn't even worth the wait. There are far better Thai restaurants in town where you won't be treated like an afterthought. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. read more

If you're going here for a quick meal, don't. The service took forever. The food was sub par. The chicken was tough and dry and the curries came with literally 2 vegetables in the whole curry in a small bowl. Overall I wasn't pleased with the Thai food, but I'm not familiar with other Thai food in the area because I am visiting. If you are looking for GREAT Thai food, I would pass. But if you want to spend a lot of time for mid Thai food this is your place. The inside of the building was nice though so that's a plus. read more

Nice place and pretty good food! I love trying new local spots. This one I'd heard a lot about bc everyone raves about it. I like Thai food but there aren't too many Thai spots around. I like authentic and also to try new things. The atmosphere is very neat. It's located in one of Lincoln's most historic buildings the site of the old original courthouse. There's even a sushi place, salon, and apartments/condos. I was impressed by the layout. The service was good and food was pretty good too. No major complaints or issues. I had pad Thai with beef which was thinly sliced. It and the tofu were a tad overdone tbh. I liked the peanuts and sauce with the noodle's though very addicting. The blue water glasses are a signature thing along the blue lights around the restaurant and bamboo which is pretty neat. We made a reservation here for my husband's birthday, which was pleasantly acknowledged upon check-in. Loved the ambiance, and the vibe was active with people of all ages enjoying food, drink and conversation. We had a good server, who knew the menu and was willing to ask the chef when I had questions specific to dietary needs. My cocktail was well-made and my husband could get his favorite, an authentic Hefe Weizen beer. Four stars because timing was a little off as the kitchen was very busy! But ultimately the food was good. We tried something new to us, Meyung Kun Wraps, which were delicious and I will replicate at home; however the make-your-own ingredients were a bit too sparse. My husband enjoyed his Pacific seafood medley. I felt my Asian vegetable stir fry was under seasoned and the broccoli was under cooked. The variety when you need it... What I went during lunch time and selected the lunch special of one appetizer and one lunch item. I got the Spring Rolls for appetizer. Definitely was not what I imaged, the description said it was steamed but i felt more like it was microwaved. The sauce on top was also quite different, not my fav. I asked for this to be made without eggs but it still came out with eggs. For those that are very particular with the dietary needs, please be careful. I then got the red curry with tofu. It was okay, mediocre. It got the job done in terms of filling my hunger but I wouldn't say it enticed my tastebuds. Environment very nice place. There are a lot of seating inside. Came here for lunch on a Thursday. Came in through the inside of the building by accident. We called and one of the employees let us in. We didn't know there was an outside entrance. It didn't seem super busy, but there was only one person waiting tables and packing the to-go orders, so he was super busy. I got the lunch special with pad see ew "with chicken" and the spring rolls. The spring roll were different from anything I've ever had that were labeled spring rolls, but super delicious and flavorful. Got my pad see ew plate and after several bites, noticed that there was no chicken on my plate. On of my cowokers also ordered squid with his dish and didn't get it. So the waiter had to go back and have them cook the meat to give separately. Also, most of us ordered the lunch size, and one of us ordered the full size entree but all the plates and portions were the same size. The flavor of the pad see ew was lacking, overall for me. But my coworkers seemed to like their food. The missing meat and the time it took for the whole meal was pretty bad tho. read more

What happened? Pre-covid this place was great. I hope we just caught them on a bad night, but the service, wait times and food were all bad. The drinks were nice though, once we got them. Stoped in at 8 pm on a Saturday night hoping for a nice dinner before attending a wedding next door at the Jasmine Room. It was about an hour before we got our food and when it arrived it was just not good. Pork pad Thai was a fail in statistical categories. The pork was dry, tasteless and had all the charm of leftovers heated up with some over-cooked noodles and tossed on a plate. There were some larger parties at big tables in the back, but a little communication would have gone a long way. In fact, I had to ask a member of the host staff for service after we were seated and no one came to the table for 15 minutes. The person who sat us took our order. After a long wait our food arrived by who I assume was our server, she appeared irritated with us and was certainly unapologetic about the experience. Again, just a little communication could have smoothed over the entire service issue. I suffered through a few bites of my food, asked for the bill and we were on our way. We had a concert to attend! We made an early reservation and were the only people when we arrived. Our appetizers and drink order was taken quickly .... So we then ordered Drunken noodle with Squid (spicy level 2) and Penang curry with scallop (spicy level 1). My drunken noodle was tasty. Good portion with several pieces of tender squid. Heads up! They charged $5 extra for the squid! But it was DEFINITELY NOT a 2 in spiciness. There were several pieces of Thai green chili that I kept mistaking for green bell peppers. My mouth was burning! I've never had a 2 that included Thai green chili's. While I enjoyed the dish, they DEFINITELY USED MSG. My mouth has been dry and thirsty since dinner. The Penang curry was a whole other story. It came out LUKE WARM. And it was basically 4 medium sized scallops in a bowl of soupy curry. Each scallop cost $2!! THAT WAS IT. There was NOTHING ELSE in the bowl. I felt scammed. I ordered delivery when the place was a 4 min walk and and paid about $47 including a %20 tip. I had the tempura chicken and with beef and shrimp fried rice with egg. The delivery person never knocked at the door. So the food was already cold by the time i realized it was here. Tempura chicken was old and microwaved. Right rice was $5-8 quality, if that. I paid a $3 extra charge for shrimp, and only one little shrimp on top came with the rice. Lacking in beef also. Meal was 93% old oily rice. I put that I was staying at a hotel in the delivery notes. But not plates, or cutlery or napkins. And not to mention no flavor. read more

I had my daughter and future son-in-law visiting in town, both are in the Air Force and are getting married this week. We had reservations but the only tables available were outside. I went there because it was a rather special night. We ordered the prawn cakes but were told they were out of them so we ordered other appetizers that ended up being just ok, I wouldn't order them again. Our dinner came and mine frankly had meat in it that was very over cooked. (It was the Perfect Trio). When we were about done eating, the table next to us were served prawns. We asked our waiter and his answer was that they were special guests. I guess we weren't too special. We all walked away and felt we had been treated pretty badly. I visit Lincoln NE periodically from the East Coast. It was such a treat to find this spot with excellent Thai food. It will definitely be on my list to revisit when I am back in town. We had the Green Curry with tofu. The curry was creamy and flavorful; the tofu just lightly toasted to a little crisp. My colleague had the Pad Thai which she reported was excellent. Rice was fluffy and fragrant. We tried the Thai spring rolls which were good, but I will definitely try another option next time. We haven't been to Blue Orchid since the pandemic. The dinners we ordered were horrible. My wife ordered Butter Chicken. It was made with chicken that had been cooked previously and rewarmed. It had the "been in the refrigerator " flavor. The asparagus on her plate was old and tough. My Pacific Medley had a good flavored base sauce but every seafood in it was was horribly overcooked. We waited 15 minutes after being seated before we even caught the attention of a waiter. The place was not busy, half the tables were open. We each took a couple bites of our meals and asked for the check. Terrible experience. We will not be back and would certainly not recommend. read more

It's taken me too long to cross Blue Orchid off my list and overall I was pleased with my meal. I went with a small group of work friends on a weekday afternoon. It wasn't busy at all and I liked the quiet, calm, dimly lit space. We were seated quickly. The menu isn't too large, which I appreciate and there were plenty of choices but not too many to be overwhelming. I like that they have a smaller portioned lunch option that comes with an appetizer and starts around $10. A few of us ordered tea while we waited for our meal. I had a cold, sweetened tea. It was very unique. You could taste the bitterness of the tea and it tasted like more of an oolong instead of a black but I'm not entirely sure what kind of leaf it was. Then it's mixed with a sweet cream. The flavors are bizarre but surprisingly delicious. It reminded me of green tea ice cream at a sushi joint. I'm glad I tried it but it's not something I would order regularly. For appetizers we all ordered the spring rolls (cucumber, bean sprout, egg and marinated tofu rolled in this spring roll paper). I love spring rolls and was very disappointed by these which are steamed (making them very mushy) and drenched in a dark plum sauce. If I were to order them again, I'd ask for the sauce on the side. It's good but there was far too much. I don't think I'd get these again though, I didn't like the mushy texture. When it came to our entrees, everyone got something different. One of my friends prefers fairly simple dishes and she ordered the Chicken Tempura (lightly battered chicken tenderloins sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds and served with sweet and sour vinaigrette). She said it was really good, the breading was light, the chicken tender. She enjoyed the sauce but said it's strong and has a mint taste. Use sparingly. Another friend had the Orchid Chicken (sauteed chicken with chopped pineapple, cashew nuts, mushroom, green and yellow onions and garlic tossed in red chili paste). She said it was delicious and there was a nice balance between the sweet pineapple and spicy red pepper and green onions. A Blue Orchid favorite, Drunken Noodles, was another selection from one of my friends. Drunken Noodles are wide rice noodles with onion, egg, mushroom, tomato, jalapeno and basil leaf in a chili sauce. She said it was very good, spicy, but delicious and she added chicken. My fourth friends Garlic and Ginger was a hit (sliced fresh peppers, ginger, and garlic with mushroom, onion and preserved soybean). She also added chicken which she said was really moist. The ginger shoots surprised her at first and seemed a bit overpowering but it really made the flavor pop. The ginger balanced nicely with the garlic. She did say the soybeans kind of got lost in the dish. I ordered the Pad See-ew (wide rice noodles with garlic, egg, collard green and broccoli in dark soy sauce). I also added chicken. I saw it on a neighboring table and the mix of greens and noodles and broccoli looked delightful. And it was, after a little doctoring. The first few bites lacked in flavor. There is absolutely no spice so I added a bit of the red chili (I had to ask for it) and that helped tremendously. I think a little bit of salt would have taken it to the next level. As I continued to mix and eat the dish, the flavors were much better. It did have a hint of a fishy flavor with a sweetness. Next time I'll likely try another dish, I'd like to see what Blue Orchid has to offer. I'd get this again though if I wasn't feeling adventurous. I'm not sure if the lunch portions are smaller or not but the portion was generous. The service was prompt. The company even better. I liked the decor. I'll be back to explore the menu a little more. Was this the best Thai experience I've ever had? No. There is a place in Omaha that had a delicious meal that I will never forget. I don't know a lot about Thai food but I feel like these dishes weren't necessarily creative or out of the box. We went to Blue Orchid for lunch on a Friday. We should have walked out when it took 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us in a dining room with only 5 occupied tables. When we were sat, we immediately ordered as the service seemed slower than normal. We were charged twice for Thai rolls that were to be included with our lunch meal. The Thai rolls and curdled soup came out 1 hour after ordering and cold. In total we waited an hour and a half for our main food course (two orders of the same dish) to be delivered. We asked for water refills repeatedly and finally got a single refill when we asked for the check. Only 5 occupied tables and two walked about due to poor service. If they were unable to properly staff, they should be closing their doors for dine in or notify customers the food wait will be close to two hours. read more

I've heard a lot about this place and was pleased to finally get to check it out a few weekends ago. I did try to stop by a couple months back and discovered they close after lunch for a few hours before opening for dinner again, so do keep that in mind. We went on a Friday night around 7:30 and were seated quickly. The atmosphere is calming with low lighting, a nice open dining room, and a subtle Thai ambiance in the decorations. The service was great and our order was taken quickly and food came out at a reasonable time. Nearly everything on the menu is gluten free so there are lots if options for those trying to avoid 'da glutensens My boyfriend had this amazing Thai iced tea that tasted like orange cream. We enjoyed the Chicken satay for an appetizer. The chicken was moist and tender and it came with a sweet and sour cucumber salsa and peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was amazing. I had the panang curry with scallops and he had the drunken noodles. I thought the panang was pretty good, decent scallop serving, and my boyfriend always loves the drunken noodles Price is pretty average and portion sizes are good, I took some home and they even sent extra rice with me. My first time in Lincoln, NE and the Blue Orchid came Highly recommended. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is dark. Feels like a warehouse. Not necessarily bad. Paper table covers over linen cloths. The conversations carry giving it a cafeteria like feel (which matches the paper table coverings). I cringe when I think of the noise level on a Friday night. Minus one star. Staff: The hostess and waiter were friendly and the service was prompt. Cocktail: Bitter Orange Cosmo. Lived up to its name. I should have known better. Minus one star for me. Appetizer: Baby Thai Rolls. Not particularly flavorful. Satisfying in a bar, finger-food, kind of way: hot. A little greasy. Pleasant dipping sauce. Would try something else next time, but no complaints. Wine selection: Plenty to choose from and reasonably priced. Entree: Crying Tiger. Medium rare. Not the typical Thai choice, but my personal favorite. I particularly like the version served at Siam Rice in the Chicago Loop on Wells. So that is the standard to beat. The entree came out rare. Sent it back. The sauce was sweet. Not the heat I would have expected from this dish. Both the hostess and the waiter followed up with me to make sure the dish was to my liking when it was brought back out. It was. The sticky rice and endgame were also excellent. Although the dish did not live up to my Siam Rice comparison, overall a very satisfying dish that delivered in the end. I can taste the mild heat and the flavors from the steak and the dipping sauce. The food is three stars. The service is 4.5. If you're looking for Thai that will blow your mind, this probably isn't it. I'm so sorry to give this review but the food is worse than I expected. If you are looking for authentic Thai food, please skip this place. It's pricey and the food is not worth what you'll pay. Pad Thai = it was just a regular cheap Pad Thai that you can get from any inauthentic Thai restaurant. It's 14$ (+5-7$ for protein). It lacks of many main ingredients like dried shrimp, eggs, and bean sprout. The noodle was soggy. Tofu was not only too big to be in Pad Thai ( 1x2 inch ), it made the whole dish taste awful. A favorite place for Sunday dinner or weekday lunch, always delicious. Lunch and dinner menus are different, with lunch including an appetizer from a list of options to accompany the main dish. Fewer main dish options at lunch, but the staples are all included, and the price point is less than dinner. Panang Curry is one of our favorites, and be sure to add vegetables for an additional $1. When it comes to heat/spice, the waiters are happy to coach you, and will make a note for the kitchen regarding your preferred heat level.
