Our first date night in Nebraska was a memorable one thanks to DISH restaurant and its employees! I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time online. We made a reservation for 5 PM when they opened on a Friday night. My first good impression of this restaurant was their well dressed and mannered staff. The hostesses and servers were ready for us! The coat rack up front is a nice touch too. We were seated next to the window with a beautiful snowy view of downtown Lincoln. Our server was so sweet and made sure we had a wonderful first dining experience. All of the food was fantastic. Our favorite dishes were the parsnip soup and blood orange toast. I think their menu changes monthly because it was printed. The drinks were okay. I got a non alcoholic cucumber "martini". My husband got a Moscow mule, but it was too tart for his taste. Been here a number of times and every time has been absolutely fantastic. Started off with a couple of appetizers of asparagus and chicken fried steak. Asparagus had hard boiled eggs on it and a delicious sauce. It was crisp but yet not woody. Delicious. Chicken fried steak was good but probably the least memorable of the meal. For our main course wehad the wagyu short rib. Absolutely fantastic. I could cut it with a fork! I'd go to dish every day if I could afford it! read more

Everything about the experience was amazing. Our server was incredibly friendly, professional, yet very casual at the same time. All of the flavor profiles are so unique and bold! The serving sizes are also pretty big. I can tell all the food is very good quality and fresh. We got three appetizers to split and left incredibly full and with leftovers. We got the focaccia with whipped feta, pomegranate, persimmons, and prosciutto. The flavors worked very well and the focaccia was nice and buttery, but overall it was just a bit too salty for me. We also got the crispy potato and pork confit. That was one of my favorite dishes all night. They do the potatoes so well - they're perfectly seasoned and the pork was incredible too. The last thing we got was a fried chicken dish. It had Asian flavors and had a really nice kick to it with kimchi and gochujang. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Shortly after being seated, we ordered an espresso martini, but were told it could not be made because the bartender did not like making that drink. We then ordered the potato salad as an appetizer and found a long black hair in the dish. Given these issues, we asked to speak with the owner. We were told she was too busy, so we waited to speak with her in person. When we were finally able to talk with her, we felt that our concerns were dismissed and the interaction came across as unfriendly. This was especially disappointing because we were there celebrating a friend's special occasion. While we understand that mistakes can happen, the way the situation was handled left a negative impression and overall put a damper on our evening. My husband and I went to Dish Restaurant last night, and unfortunately we were very disappointed with our meal. We ordered the house rolls, a salad, steak and eggs, and the salmon. Every dish, including the house rolls, was extremely salty. The side dishes were difficult to identify because they contained so many mixed ingredients, and they were also overly salted. The presentation wasn't very appealing either. Out first night we when to @dishdowntown The small plates we shared had great flavors that was balanced, seasonal and unique. The beets with peaches and cherries were paired with grassy arugula sauce and just a little bit of heat. The potatoes with chorizo and hollandaise were fired within an inch of their life which is PERFECT!! The pickled mustard seeds added just the right amount of vinegar. Favorite of the night was the duck and corn croquettes. They were fried with a soft filling and the smoky plum sauce was a great combination with the sweet corn. read more

One of the few truly fine-dining experiences in Lincoln, eating here is always an experience. Even the little items get a good deal of attention. Usually if a restaurant provides good food consistently and a good customer experience, they are very successful and I'm sure the DISH is. Unfortunately, I experienced cold food and a poor customer experience. The cold food I get, it happens, but for the money it's a little more disappointing. When I told my server the Steak & Eggs were cold, she was great, she said we'll get you another one. During that wait time, I ate the last bun, finished the other appetizers on the table and became full. Also, the other 6 people at the table were finished eating so I asked the server to just cancel my order. The manager said they couldn't cancel "per policy" and now the new order turned into just reheating the original plate, what took so long? . So, for the 7 of us and the almost $500 bill, apparently that one plate of Steak and Eggs would have put the company's financial stability at risk. I don't know a lot of people, and I doubt this will stop people from going, but I won't ever eat there again. This just makes me appreciate every other restaurant I've ate at where management did the right thing versus the old "per policy" riff to make sure my $40 allows the DISH to pay their light bill and keeps the owners from becoming homeless, swing and a miss. read more

Today was my first time trying Dish. I came here for brunch (the best meal of the day) and was not disappointed. First of all, the service here is top notch. From the hostess to our waiter, the people who work here are wonderful. The French press coffee was fantastic. I love that they bring the whole press to your table to allow you to top off your cup as needed. The food was also amazing. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes; if you like a lemon/blueberry flavor combo, you will love these. I also tried a bite of the grits, and they were fantastic. This is a fine dining establishment in downtown Lincoln. Reservations don't seem to be needed to get a table, at least on a cold Tuesday night Thanksgiving week. We were a table of three and we made a meal out of four appetizers, with drinks and a shared dessert. It's a seasonal menu, which thankfully didn't mean mostly squash. The menu is very vegetarian-friendly for fine dining; we got the carrots three ways (smoked; made into "jerky" and served with carrot top pesto), an order of mussels, charred broccoli with oyster mushrooms, and some fried chicken with yogurt, smoked honey and thyme butter, with an order of focaccia. We didn't feel deprived or like we needed entrees. Their cocktails are unusual; I got the "staycation," a sweet almond-infused rum drink with some sort of candied citrus garnish (Instagram-worthy), and we all wondered at but did NOT order the duck-fat infused mezcal drink. Everything was beautifully plated. We did get a dessert, however it was so much less memorable than the dinner that a week later I cannot remember what it was. So I'd suggest splurging on dinner and drinks instead. Appetizers were $16-$20 and entrees ranged from $26-$33. Keep a copy of the menu handy; what the sauces were was not always obvious. For example, the broccoli/mushrooms (delicious, but scant on the mushrooms) came with "tofu custard," which was delicious but we would never has guessed what it was. The carrots were probably our favorite; I don't think they achieved true "jerky" texture but they were delicious and have me looking at carrot tops as an ingredient instead of compost. The focaccia appeared to have been crisped on both top and bottom; it was primarily a texture experience and useful for going after the sauces; fine but not something I'd get again. The allium butter it came with was herby and delightful. The service was attentive; our focaccia came out late but arrived when we asked about it. And my request to make my cocktail weak was honored. Ambiance is nice; good for conversation. We basically closed the place down and they were very low key about it.If you have an anniversary and want to splurge, this would be a good place to go; one of my companions is already penciling them in. read more

This is the second time my wife and I have come to Dish and each time is better than the last. The food experience is beyond excellent and you get unique flavors and interesting combinations. There is a lot of care and intentionality given to each dish snd the drinks are equally was good. The service is amazing as well and you are cared for from the moment you walk in to when you leave by thoughtful and polite staff. The ambiance is very nice snd it's a place where you won't feel embarrassed for dressing up a little or ashamed if you dress down. They did apologize stating they must have gotten a bad batch of meat. This will not be a place we go to in the future the service was great but it's very expensive and to get food poisoning and no refund is not good business. When the food arrived, the hash browns were in a petrified state, too hard and overcooked to eat. It took 2 requested attempts to get a coffee refill. Overall, a disappointing experience at this restaurant. Then when the check arrives, there is a 50 cent charge for requesting hot sauce for the eggs. Very petty to charge this. The menu options were great... but the service needed to be upgraded - First appetizer arrived... no utensils or napkins were brought to the table... we had to wait until we could make eye contact with our server and let her know we needed plates & utensils - The second dish required a steak knife, which never was brought...so we had to use a dull butter knife - Meanwhile all tables had a water pitcher... we didn't have that "upgrade" - Long wait for our server... to ask for more drinks. No serving spoons... we just felt like home, lifting the serving dish and scraping the food onto our plates, using our butter knifes and forks to split our dish Take aways... Disconnection between waiters and food runners. Nobody noticed anything wrong? Maybe the servers can make eye contact with the guests and ask for more drinks... including water Maybe I should bring my own utensils so I can enjoy my delicious meal... For a top-notch restaurant the service needs to match the menu. The server needs to anticipate the guests' needs. Overall the service was not what we expected, but, sadly is becoming the norm. Even for top-end restaurants. Per observation the staff was overworked, and maybe this contributed to the poor service. My guess is that this is all due to problems related to staffing. An under-staffed and over-worked crew is not going to be able to deliver the restaurant experience the guests are expecting, and this ultimately will not serve the restaurant well.
