I worked for HireStrategy for many years as a recruiter and account manager. Based on my experiences and my knowledge of other local firms, HireStrategy is by far and away the best recruiting firm to work for in the D.C./NoVa area. The management team is not just paying lip service to the concept of a consultative approach with candidates and clients. They fully embrace the idea of building business partnerships. I noticed the vast difference between HireStrategy and the other firms in the area after my first interview. They want recruiters and account managers to take a straightforward, professional approach in interactions with candidates and clients. If you want to be able to recruit in a truly professional environment and to operate with integrity, this is the firm for you. I ultimately decided to move into a completely different career outside of recruiting, but if I had stayed in recruiting I would have planned to stay at HireStrategy for decades. Once you work there, you are not going to want to work for any other recruiting agency (I am not kidding). Literally NO ONE leaves to go to other recruiting firms; the only people that leave either have decided to leave recruiting, have moved out of the area or want to do internal HR/corporate. HS is the most respected brand name in the area. This is not one of those firms where the manager is saying "Ok, we have four clients, let's go out and find a fifth to keep paying the rent!" They are really entrenched in the area and work with all of the major players. If you are starting in a strictly recruiting capacity, you will never be hurting for job orders to work on. I was shocked by the number of clients and job orders vs. my previous firm. Despite all the great things I have to say about HS on a professional level, the BEST thing about HireStrategy is the unique feeling of camaraderie and esprit de corps that pervades all levels of the organization. I think of my former colleagues (and all of my former managers) in the same way I think of family members. Because of the high quality people that are hired and the low turnover rate, you become very close with your managers and team members. It is an extremely fun environment, with lots of laughter in the office and all the happy hours you could want. One final note; if this review sounds over the top in terms of positivity, keep in mind that this is being written from the perspective of a very cynical, seasoned former recruiter. I know that people are looking for honest advice in this forum, and I would never say all these positive things if I did not truly believe them. Trust me; this place IS different. So far so good! I am in a Sales career, so I had to take time to write a review when someone deserves good credit. Often times (9/10 times) people will post a negative review over a good one. There are a lot of reviews that people are writing that says they are "tearing apart my resume". Well, let's be frank with ourselves for a minute. HireStrategy is a business, and their business is "putting people in their place". Not only do they have a reputation to uphold with their clients, they have a duty to you as well. IF your resume needs work, take the criticism and re-write it. They cannot shop you to clients with a less than stellar resume. I was leary yesterday when I went in, because of the reviews I read,but I had an AWESOME experience. The guy I worked with is Cole, and he critiqued my resume and told me to work on a few things and touch base with him by the end of the week. Within an hour after leaving, I had a follow up email stating what we discussed in the meeting, and he's already called me back today. So far, I'm having a great experience. I hope it stays the course. I also want to commend the VP of HR who has been writing those who have had negative experiences. Your reaching out, in my book, goes a long way. It's a shame to see all the bad reviews on here. I had an excellent experience working with HireStrategy to find a job. I started my search with them and was set up with a great recruiter who found me several opportunities right off the bat. He kept me informed on all pending applications and called multiple times a week with updates. I couldn't have asked for more than that. In the end I had 2 interviews with great companies and both were fantastic experiences. The jobs aligned very well to my skills and knowledge and everyone was very respectable and treated me well, both from HireStrategy's side and their clients who interviewed me. I ended up getting an offer from another company before getting any offers from the companies I interviewed with from HireStrategy. However I will definitely be going back to them if I ever need to start looking again. I think many people who give a negative review here are forgetting that it's HireStrategy's job to FIND you positions and apply you for them. Actually getting chosen for interviews is up to you, and securing a position is also up to you. If your profile simply does not stand up to others that are applying, don't blame the recruiters. I also want to mention that my referrals said they were treated well when called regarding my profile. I am sure not every recruiter is the same, but the 2 that I worked with were excellent. read more

Terrible firm! I used the office in Reston. I had applied to a position they posted online back in January. I met with the original recruiter who contacted me and told her what I was looking for. For months they literally had nothing matching up to what I wanted. Eventually I decided to be flexible on what I would accept. They still had little to no job opportunities and I literally had to send numerous emails and voicemails to get mediocre responses. Sometimes I would get no response. My original recruiter left and I was tossed between several recruiters. When they finally did find me something the long term/permanent pay was ridiculously low. At the same time they offered me that position, another company I had interviewed with offered me a job paying twice as much, with way better benefits. I took the better job offer and notified the most recent recruiter I was working with. The recruiter then had the nerve to try to scold me on email about how they would have waited to see both offers and they can't believe I accepted the job so quick. That's definitely none of their concern at all! I did see both offers, and I know I chose the better one. I hate when people try to talk down to you like you made an uninformed decision! Super unprofessional! Don't waste your time! Find another agency or just apply to jobs yourself. You'll probably land waaaay better opportunities! read more

This company comprises a team of recruiters that legitimately care. I've worked for HS for 15 years and can say without question that the HireStrategy team implements best practices, the highest ethics and has developed an internal culture that is genuinely committed to the best interests of the candidates they represent. That being said, there are many occasions when a candidate's background falls short of our clients' demanding requirements. This can be due to a a lot of things; chronic job hops, lack of career progression,lack of degree, lack of technical expertise, etc. When we can't help someone, we politely let that person know that there aren't current opportunities that align with their experience and wish them well. If you're unemployed, under-employed and urgently seeking employment; this response may be aggravating and frustrating. Unfortunately, it's the nature of our business and the industry. We simply can't help everyone as much as we wish we could! Thank you to all of the individuals who have recognized the hard work of their HireStrategy representatives. I have to completely disagree with these other posters. I am a HireStrategy success story and have nothing but positive things to say. Responding to a random posting on my university's career board, I was connected with the company. I had never come in contact with a temp agency before, and to be honest I was very hesitant to try it. My consultant, however, made me feel like she was truly doing everything she could to help me find something. After many unsuccessful attempts to place me, due to schedule conflicts,etc... she did not stop looking. When I was ultimately told about a company that seemed promising, both she and another consultant went above and beyond to help me feel confident and prepared for my phone interview. My consultant even called me from her cellphone on her vacation to see how everything went. The reason I say I am a success story is that my month assignment has now turned into a permanent career. I cannot thank HireStrategy enough for helping me get to this point, and have recommended them to all my friends who might be looking for jobs. It is a luck of the draw in terms of what assignments come along, but when you work hard and treat your assignment with the respect it deserves, you never know where you will end up. As a recent returned Peace Corps Volunteer, I was told to contact Emily Slominski who is the Director and Administrative HR Staffing person. I had an interview with her which seemed to go well. I asked her to only give me job opportunities that were at $15 dollars and hour or higher because that is what I was paid at my last job as a Special Education teacher. I am not going to downgrade. I wont be able to survive in D.C. as I am repaying my student loans. She agreed that that seemed like a reasonable request. This was on February 22, 2016. Today is April 18th 2016. I have never been contacted by them since my interview. I attempted to call them multiple times but nothing came of my inquiries. It has been almost two months since my interview. This is incredibly unprofessional on HireStrategy's end. Thankfully two days after my interview with HireStrategy, another temp agency: CityStaff contacted me with a two month temp offer which I took and still am employed with. They have even called me and have offered me a temp to perm job that begins May 1st. I am forever grateful for CityStaff for helping me when HireStrategy did nothing. Shame on HireStrategy. All the members of their team are very professional, and the firm strives to provide excellent service to both clients and candidates. I was referred to HireStrategy from a family friend who had used their services in the past to staff positions at their company. I immediately felt welcomed with open arms and felt as though they were going to be able to place me in a position that I wanted as soon as possible. As a recent college grad they helped guide me through the interview process as well as narrowing my focus to really get down to the core about which positions would work for me. My experience with HireStrategy has been quite good. At a time when I was up in the air about staying in the DC area or leaving, HireStrategy sought me out and placed me in a consultant position in downtown DC. The consultant position they placed me in was high paying and with a very reputable firm and has allowed me to leverage that for a possible move out to the West Coast. I was quite impressed with their offices downtown and with the level of professionalism during the negotiation period of my position. They have even gone out of their way to refer me to other affiliate recruiters on the West Coast for my eventual move. Hire strategy was my 3rd recruiting agency I used in 6 months and I honestly couldnt have had a better expirence. I worked with Katie and she was ontop of her game from the first point of contact! She scheduled me to come in right away and explained this would be a quick process. My initial meeting with her was laid back and efficient - in her words she wanted to "understand what I was excited about" and did just that. Within a week she found me my dream position and made sure to stay ontop of both the employer and myself. On my first day of work Katie and her office manager met me in the lobby of my work building with coffees and walked me in - felt like the first day of school! I've worked with Hire Strategy as both an employer and a job seeker. My experience was excellent in both cases. I liked the business model where they do search for contract staffing or direct hire. I think it gives them more options. I was also very impressed with their professionalism and standards. The person I was working with listened carefully to what I wanted and made some suggestions for options I never would have considered. I ended up landing a much better job than I was originally pursuing. They don't really have a "job board" approach that just screens resumes, you should take advantage of their more consultative approach. read more
