In my personal experience, the recruiter I was working with was not forthcoming about an opportunity. When I wasn't available when she wanted me to be for a Zoom interview, she was suddenly unresponsive and passed the assignment to someone else (which is perfectly fine), but was not forthcoming about that at all and instead said that the company no longer needed help with the project. The dishonesty speaks to a lack of professionalism and integrity, and the recruiter Maggie simply could have said that the company needed someone sooner. While temporary agencies have their clients' interest (businesses) first and foremost in mind, that does not mean job seekers and temporary employment candidates need to be lied to. After all, candidates are The Choice's and other temporary agencies source of revenue. In light of this, I write to let others know that candidates deserve to be treated with respect, and to job seekers: advocate for yourself when employment practices are not transparent. As someone else mentioned, the glowing reviews are curious and my previous not glowing review was flagged (most likely by The Choice). I highly suggest consulting other sources such as Glassdoor and Google for more holistic, balanced insight to inform your decision of whether to work with them. read more

I have been using the Choice to send temps to our office for many years. Not only do they send great temps, I have hired more than a couple of dozen of the temps to stay as permanent employees. Cheryl and her team know the type of person that is going to work out at our organization and if we have a permanent job, they have a high likelihood of getting the job. I worked with the choice for the past year. I submitted my resume and cover letter for a job posting and received an interview request shortly after. During the interview process, they assisted with reviewing my resume and preparing me for the interview. After I was hired, they checked in with me regularly and were very responsive to any questions. I was hired right before COVID lockdowns and hiring freezes, and they helped make the temp process very seamless for me. It is too bad there is not an option for zero stars here. My experience with The Choice was awful (and judging by similar reviews on Glassdoor, it looks like I am not alone). The stellar reviews on here are thus curious to me. While a few of their staff members are genuine and friendly, the people I ended up dealing with the most are insensitive, devoid of integrity, and lack any sort of professionalism. I dealt mostly with their HR coordinator, London, who was by far the nastiest (which is why I thought it appropriate to include him by name in my review). The number of emails I received from him bordered harassment, as it was always a direct attack on my failure to follow proper procedures (which, no matter what I did, never aligned with their ridiculous and ever-changing expectations). Additionally, I was told to report days off to The Choice in advance, and when I did this, they were reported completely wrong. You would think they could at least make some effort to do CORRECTLY the very thing they obsessively insist upon. I could never win with them, no matter when or how I notified them. After a family funeral when I needed a day of rest, London was also nice enough to briefly 'apologize' for my loss, and then proceed directly into spewing a paragraph of scripted policy about calling them directly. (Please note he was EMAILING me to tell me that email is not sufficient means of communication - ???) There's really not much more I can say, because that level of inappropriateness and depravity speaks for itself. In reality, my performance with the actual organization I worked for (which you'd think would be of the utmost concern to The Choice) was never a problem. I enjoyed the job and felt supported by the organization, the polar opposite of my feelings for The Choice. They were so ridiculously adamant about drilling into me that THEY were my employer - as opposed to the client organization. Well, I could not be happier that this is no longer the case. After being hired full time with the organization, I gloriously no longer have to deal with (nor split my paycheck with) this disgusting agency. read more

When I contacted The Choice and began working with them, I was on the verge of quitting and giving up all I had worked for after interning for a year in DC and still having no luck finding a job. I was about to move back to my home state and was extremely discouraged and depressed. But they gave me hope and a new start. Go with these guys! It will take some patience, but they are on your side and want to help you! These ladies found me a full-time, well paying job within weeks of me interviewing with them. They offered me a few temporary jobs that I declined at first, as I wanted something a little more long-term, and they did not make me feel discouraged or bad for turning down what they offered. They kept looking until they found a job they thought would be the perfect fit, and that I could confidently accept. As I said, within weeks I started a temporary, full-time position that actually ended up turning into a permanent opportunity in which the company brought me on board. I could not have gotten this job without the help of The Choice. People have to understand (i.e. those discouraged in the negative reviews) that this is a job placement agency with a lot of temporary and temp-to-hire positions. They cannot and do not guarantee that they will land you your permanent dream job ASAP. But they do certainly help you get a leg up, get your foot in the door, and build your resume with the opportunities they present to you. I recently relocated to D.C. from Los Angeles, California. Let me start off by saying that it is a VERY tough and competitive market here- one which I haven't witnessed before. My background lies in media/entertainment which meant that my job search doubled in difficulty ie. venturing into new industries. I've worked with many agencies in the past and know just how tedious it can be. They have been good at pairing me with organizations that fit my skill set, as well as develop skills that I wanted during my time temping. I worked for The Choice in the 90's. However, I recently went in to sign up with them, again, in 2016 or 2017. I was told by the owner that I "presented well". I have an extensive background in the legal field, the World Bank, and various nonprofits and associations. At this time, The Choice sought to present me to a client that they were trying to "win over" -- Pew Charitable Trust -- and submitted my resume for a position that they were trying to fill; however, another agency with which I was registered at the time had already established a relationship with Pew, and, unbeknownst to me, had also submitted my resume to Pew. The owner of The Choice said that she was told that I was already submitted. I told her that I was registered with this other agency, was I had not been informed that my resume was submitted to Pew. The owner of The Choice refused to do business with me, and in this act, she was actually accusing me of lying about my not knowing that I had already been submitted to Pew. I did not lie, as I truly did not know. Since then, I have seen "numerous" positions advertised by The Choice for which I am highly qualified. I called them, and told them that "I am just trying to work; I am just seeking employment." The Choice continues to ignore me; they continue to acknowledge my communications. I absolutely did nothing wrong, and was treated very unfairly by The Choice. I also feel that that agency might be a little racist as well. If you are simply looking to work, and to be treated fairly, to be treated as a human being -- a very intelligent human being with a great administrative background -- I would steer away from The Choice. They never acknowledged their part in the entire scenario, and what transpired was by, no means, something that should have kept me securing employment. read more

I was applying to random jobs on Idealist, you know the usual strategy for young college grads new the area when I was contacted by a recruiter. While it wasn't the first time I had spoken with a recruiter (I had met with at least five others in my networking efforts), it was the first time an agency had a good match for me. I've worked with London, Allison, and Katherine and they have been fantastic. From the initial interview to regular check ins during my contract, they have been nothing but supportive. The Choice seemed like a wonderful agency at first-they were helpful, communicative, and pleasant. This changed. During the course of my time with them, they became uncommunicative, critical, and rude. They brushed aside phone calls, and when they did answer, they simply did not seem to care that another person's livelihood was at stake. By the time I terminated by relationship with them, they had completely stopped sending emails, and had failed to respond to my pleas for help/updates for quite some time. Do not use this Agency. It wasn't long before I interviewed for a temp position at a professional membership organization for 3 months. My 3 month contract was extended on two separate occasions. I found out 5 months ago that my husband and I would be moving to the DC area, so I contacted The Choice to see if they could help me in finding a job out here. I had read all the good reviews about them, and thought they would be a great company. Unfortunately, I did not have that good experience. I called them before I moved to see how I could start working with them as soon as I got here, and they told me that I needed to just look at their website, pick a job and apply to it. Once they reviewed my resume, I would get a call and things would go from there. I thought this was a little odd, as most other companies don't work this way, but not all companies are the same. Well, I never got a response. Not a big deal as I got very busy and things are finally starting to calm down now 5 months later. So, I decided to try again as they really have the best reviews. This time I sent them an email, got a response right away from Allison asking me to send my resume, which I did. I then got a call late in the day the next day from Chloe -- who left me a voicemail as I was not available when she called. Well, that's where the good response and experience ends. I called Chloe back the next morning, but they were all in a staff meeting, so I left my name and number for her to call me back. No response. So two days later, I called again. Again, she was unavailable, so I left my name and number saying she had called and left me a voicemail and I was trying to reach her back. Again... no response. I figured I would try one last time. So I emailed Allison, let her know about my difficulty getting a response, and she was very apologetic. We set up a phone appointment for the following Tuesday. We confirmed the date, time and looked forward to connecting. Well, Tuesday at the appointed day and time came and went. At this point... I figure that if they are THIS bad at corresponding and keeping appointments, then this is not a company I want to be affiliated with. I was really hoping for a good experience as they have such good reviews. But it did not happen. I will be working with a different company who actually keeps their appointments, and responds to being contacted. Just a warning to others.... If you do contact this company, don't expect a response, and don't expect them to be helpful. You might want to align yourself with a different company who has a better reputation. read more

I was placed in 4 separate long-term temp jobs (all at least 3 months) and was just hired in a permanent position at my most recent placement. I moved to DC just over a year ago. When I got here, I didn't have much of a professional network to tap into to help my job search. After about two months of searching on my own and feeling like I wasn't getting anywhere I decided that temping might be a good way to work part time while looking for something full time and permanent. I submitted my resume to a couple of different temp companies that had good Yelp and Google reviews. A recruiter from The Choice gave me a call about 48 hours after I submitted my resume and we set up an interview for later that week. I was slightly uneasy about working for a temp company that I was unfamiliar with because experiences with different staffing companies can be really varied. I was specifically concerned about a temp company asking me to take assignments working for less than I was comfortable making, as well as worried that my assignments might be in a different industry than my field. After my interview at The Choice, however, my worries were put to rest. I got to meet the whole recruitment team when I was there and each one of them really listened to my background, work preferences, and salary comfort zone. At first, I started doing temp jobs for the Choice that were one day here and there, many times at repeating locations. After a few short-term temp assignments, however, I had a couple of longer-term assignments. After temping for 5 months I got an opportunity through The Choice to interview for a temp-to-hire position in my preferred industry for which I was thankfully chosen. After temping at the company for a couple of months I was hired on as a permanent employee. During this process The Choice was supportive, helpful, and genuinely happy for me when I got officially hired on; they even sent me a congratulatory card in the mail. I have since recommended The Choice to a few classmates and acquaintances that have moved to DC in a similar situation that I was in.
