Texted me at 7am on a Sunday to offer me a job which I did not ask for. Terrible company, terrible processes.

Some broad named Sarah Woolley (Sarah.Woolley@hirestrategy.com) cold called me randomly and informed me of an oh-so grand, $13/hr position that could "jump-start my career." Given my desperation as a recent college graduate with zero job leads yet many bills to pay, I go for it. No response, despite multiple calls and emails to her. She emails back after a month or so and tells me the position's been filled lol. She somehow magically has another job ready, with less pay, that could also "jump-start my career." Still desperate, I go for it. Again, despite multiple calls and emails to her, absolutely zero response. The one time she calls me is the following Saturday morning at 7:00, followed by an email asking why I haven't responded and how unprofessional it is of me to not do so. The audacity of this woman, what balls she has. I was honestly baffled yet humored so I just laughed at her missed call and email for ages, then blocked her number and email. In short, let's just say she's VERY lucky this wasn't in-person. She's actually part of the reason I'll never use a recruiting/staffing agency again and why everyone I know have followed suit (most/all of whom now have phenomenal, salaried jobs after following my advice). Please use this review as a reason not to use this godforsaken place. I honestly question how these agencies are still in business. read more

Absolutely dreadful experience. Minimal follow up after initial meeting. After not hearing back after a reasonable amount time had elapsed I followed up...The recruiter told me the reason was that their system was down... The only job lead they remotely sent my way was one that was outside of my skill set. The recruiter I met with and was dealing with used the words "like" and "um" a lot. An associate of mine met with them and told me one of the "recruiters" referred to her as dude during an interview... After letting you twist for a while, they'll send a disingenuous follow-up email to see how your job search is going..."My" job search??? How about me asking, "How is your job search for ME going?" If you're seeking a recruiter, steer clear of this company....(Update) After MONTHS with ZERO follow up, the "Recruiter" sent me a boilerplate email informing me of 2 companies looking for the right candidate with VERY vague specifics...oh, and wanted me to refer them to someone who might be interested.....Yeah, let me hop right to that after such a horrendous experience with your company...... read more

Visited the office and presented the materials requested. Sat with a rep for 15 minutes to discuss vacancies and possible fits. Followed up several times via emails and phone calls. It has been over a month and no phone calls were returned and no emails were responded to. read more

My experience with Hire Strategy began with a connection with Kathleen Edquist in August 2017. After a very pleasant phone conversation, an in-person meeting was scheduled, and it was during that meeting things went downhill. Ms. Edquist continuously mentioned one of her star candidates and that she reminded her of "Michelle Obama." I didn't think anything of the first mention, but after hearing it over and over again it was clear that she was hinting that I should alter my look (particularly my natural, un-straightened hair). Ms. Edquist even went as far as to mention what I should wear to an interview... **blank stare** Forgive me, but someone in her 40s with a solid professional background OBVIOUSLY knows how to dress for an interview. Her quasi-subliminal insinuation that I needed that information, was insulting. Needless to say I was annoyed by the entire experience, and although I'd planned to connect with other recruiters, I remained open to communicate with Ms Edquist in the event she'd have an opportunity, and thus, could possibly usher me into my next gig. Ha! Wishful thinking. I was never contacted by Ms. Edquist about any potential opportunities, or to express that she didn't have anything that was within my skill set/salary range. Total silence. That is, until I received an email from her this month, almost a year later, asking me to respond with my current details (whether I was still looking and available, no longer available, etc). My first reaction was to respond with some choice-words conveying my thoughts of her, but decided to just delete her email and write this review instead. The audacity of that woman. read more

August 2017, I was contacted by a HireStrategy rep and was told that a recruiter would contact me. One by the name of Alicia contacted me and after a slight phone interview I was scheduled to have a face to face interview the same week! While in route to the interview which I had to leave at least two hours prior just to get there due to Alicia instructing me that it would be best to use Metro instead of driving, I'm locating the original email to retrieve the directions and I come across an email stating that she was sick and couldn't make it in. (I'm puzzled as to why another recruiter couldn't meet with me) I rescheduled and met with her where I was informed that after the holiday (Memorial) she insured me that she had plenty of candidates for me to apply with! Needless to say, it is now January 2018, I've emailed her twice and NEVER got a reply! Beyond unprofessional especially since I explained to her I was eager to work and needed a job ASAP to help take care of my recent newborn. If you aren't going to help you shouldn't waste people's time! There are people willing to work to get where they want to be in life; time and money isn't something to just play around with read more

Things started off GREAT with HS. I was assigned a very nice, friendly recruiter who claimed she'd be all over getting me a job. After all, if I get placed, she gets paid. Since I have a fairly broad range of skills, she assured me she'd be able to get a job lined up for me very quickly. She told me to check in on (date), never telling me that she'd be out of the DC office and unreachable that day. She also told me to "call and check in often. If you're afraid you're bugging me, don't be!" After 3 weeks of constant attempts at contact (email, call, text), I finally found out that my recruiter was no longer with the company. Color me shocked. I was then assigned to the department manager, who told me that she was "busy managing 14 other recruiters" and that she wouldn't be able to check in with me more than once a week. In the 3 months that I was actively calling these people multiple times a week, I actually had contact with someone 5 times. I was given one (extremely temporary and part time) assignment that paid nowhere near my requested pay, and wound up barely covering metro fees to get there and home. It was also well outside my preferred location, but I took it as I was otherwise unemployed, and essentially living on a friend's couch at the time. Overall, I'd say this was the absolute worst experience I've had with a staffing agency. read more

I wish I could give them a ZERO rating!!! I was contacted by HireStrategy in regards to my resume. I reached back because I believed the job was a good fit. I'm usually not big on recruiting companies but I said, hey just give it a try. Well this company definitely reminded me as to why I do not work with external recruiters!! I had an interview scheduled at this location, felt confident about it mainly because I felt like the recruiter had great energy. I took the time to come in and meet with this individual even went out my way to provide a thank you card for meeting with me. We spoke for almost two hours, which I felt was great. He expressed that he's all about communication and making sure that he supports what I need as a candidate. He was quite the opposite! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! He sent me two positions outside of my commuting area AND NEVER followed up with the position he initially reached out to me for! I mean what is the point? I don't get these companies, I GET it your all about your commission BUT a little service goes a LONG way!! In the end he NEVER called me back, I had to track him down and when I did he said he would reach out to me and never did! I tried to call to voice my concerns to management but seems like the receptionist just kept saying he was conveniently in meetings!!! YEAH RIGHT! It seems as though that is the culture with this company they lure you in, and see if you can fulfill theirs needs, not really caring anything about you or your career path! AND They don't seem to have an accountability system..they cover for each other!! How is that productive!?!? They are all about making money on you, good luck on trying to negotiate your salary, they will try to dumb your experience down and offer you way less than market rate..just to make their money!! I would AVOID this company like the plague! They do not have your best interest at heart. BIG WASTE OF TIME!!! If they call you RUN! VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I will NEVER refer HireStrategy to anyone and when asked about them I will advise to STAY AWAY! They don't care about you! Only about their pockets!! There's nothing "Strategic" about them! The only strategy is they have is how well they focus on wasting your time and treating you like nothing! They should change their name to "LowerStrategy" - SMH So SELFISH!! So UNPROFESSIONAL!! Be Prepared to WASTE your time! read more

I'm going to have to second the other review. I was referred to Hirestrategy by my friend who worked with them and, while they never had any job for him, he said that they had a good reputation in the area. I worked with Melissa, a Director in the Reston office. She was so excited when she called saying, after reviewing my resume, she had a lot of opportunities for me. We played phone tag twice, and then I finally got in touch with her through e-mail and all I got back in response was 'send me your resume'. This was the 3rd time I had sent her my resume. She's either completely indifferent or terribly disorganized. I never heard from her again. I called and left messaged as well as called her co-workers trying to get in touch with her. I am also am disappointed in the lack of professionalism in the recruiting industry. I understand you are sales people and you work on commission, but you are what give sales people a bad name. It's even more despicable to get a job hunters hopes up, just to disappear. Why lie if you don't have any jobs available and then hide from us when we try to contact you? My experience is the impression is what I'm taking away about the entire company, I don't care what the reputation is. I will be telling my friends to AVOID these recruiters. You have a better chance of finding a job on LinkedIn. read more

You know everything you hate about recruitment agencies? Well, this is the epitome of all that and beyond. Non-personalized approach: This place is just one in a thousand other low-grade DC employment agencies that harvest resumes and try to pump people into 6-month contract positions Unprofessional: I had a recruiter schedule an appointment with me. I showed up ten minutes early and was left in the waiting room for 40 minutes (half an hour after our scheduled appointment). Imagine showing up for an interview that late! You would never get the job. Trying to set you up with jobs you obviously don't want and/or aren't qualified for: The only time I heard from these guys after my initial interview was when they sent out bulk emails to huge lists of clients trying to get anyone they can to set up an interview. Every email I received was for a job I was clearly not qualified for or totally did not match the requested positions I gave them. Attempting to instill fear to get you to quit your current job: On multiple occasions I had someone from this agency try to get me all emotionally worked up about how unstable and dead-end my current position was, even though I had been working a stable position for multiple years. They really, really want people to quit stable employment and sign up for 3/6/12-month contract jobs without any benefits. Beware entrusting your potential career to anyone working for this company. They definitely did not leave me feeling like they had my best interest in mind. read more

HireStrategy markets itself a full-service professional staffing firm providing contract, direct hire and executive search solutions for employers in the Washington DC area. However given the experience I had I wouldn't use them again. I was contacted by Hirestrategy about a opening for a Federal sales position with one of their clients. A woman identifying herself as a recruiter called me and reviewed my background and experience. She said I was a good fit for several open positions and would call back the following day after speaking to her recruiting director. I never heard from her again. I tried emailing her for follow-up, calling, even calling her Director. No one would return calls or messages. I am constantly disappointed in the lack of professionalism in the recruiting industry. What does it take to reply to an email or return the phone call of a candidate or client that they reached out and contacted? Not much. But as one HR executive told me recently, bad people make bad companies. Their are professional recruiting agencies out their. But Hirestrategy isn't one of them. read more

Just got off the phone with a recruiter and informed them that i was not able to come in on this Wednesday because it was too short a notice. She still sent me an email with the appointment for this Wednesday and was told to bring in the filled in application to save them time. I'm really disappointed with Hire Strategy! I was contacted by a recruiter asking to set up an interview. As per her request, I sent her my application and resume the night before our meeting. The next morning I received an email from the recruiter stating that "due to an internal meeting" we would have to reschedule our interview. I rescheduled for the next day only to receive another email the morning of canceling due to illness. I didn't even have a chance to respond before receiving another email stating that she will be out sick for the rest of the week and asked to schedule an interview for the following week. I emailed her back that I was no longer interested in moving forward with Hire Strategy. Three cancellations in 3 days! Wow! If I were to do that to a potential employer I would NEVER get the job! I'm in shock! This experience was so unprofessional and a complete waste of my time and efforts. Don't waste your time with this company. Not worth it! read more

Do NOT recommend...they do NOT help you...even if you are highly qualified w/ a great resume....you go into a black hole, the rep just forgets about you.....no follow up email, just ignored....Pathetic. Oh, and to top it off, I was told I was being considered for a crazy job that does not remotely fall into what I would be looking for...but because I have certain experience on my resume, they used that as a jumping point to choose a certain type job, which made zero sense at all. BIG fat waste of my time....do not waste yours...listen to the reviews on here! read more

Love Hire Strategy. My Recruiter is Henley and she does a wonderful job of working with me to find a position that fits me and the company. Many staffing agencies I have worked with before don't seem to understand why someone wouldn't want to take certain positions they present the client with. Henley is not pushy at all and genuinely wants to find the best fit for her clients. I trust her enough to suggest her to my family and friends. Great job, Hire Strategy! read more

I just moved to DC, went to HireStrategy and my assigned person ("Agent": K Ferrello) got me two potential matches in a week, one of them resulting in a job! (I am not working at MicroStrategy). All in a week. My agent was very helpful the first time we met, she made sure she and I were on the same page about my needs, interests, and what I wanted in a job specifically. I'd totally recommend HireStrategy, just make sure you are clear about your requirements in a job in your first meeting with your agent, and be explicit about what you're looking for. read more

I'm just taken aback by the lack of professionalism. This week, I was contacted by one of their recruiters via LinkedIn. In her message she'd stated that she was clear this week. I selected a time for yesterday and she never called. She did however message me that night and apologized for missing our meeting. Hey, chalk it up to e-connection mishaps right? I mean things do happen in life. Well, why am I writing this review? It happened again. I responded to her message last night and selected a time that she suggested. It's 20-minutes into that time and still no word from her. I'm done, lol! Thank God I know now. Good luck everyone and enjoy your day, PA read more

YOU ARE A NUMBER AT HIRING AGENCIES AND THAT IS IT. They need you touch contact to put on a report. As someone who has been in this world before, I know that they need to hit numbers every week so most of the time they don't have a position for you. I spoke to Carolyn Christie a "Senior Internal Recruiter" who said she had many openings both internally and externally with clients. I had to be the one to follow up afterwards. Then, per usual with staffing agencies, there are no positions at this time. COVID-19 is making it extremely hard to hire at the moment which is understandable but don't deliberately lie to people who are actively in the job market. read more

This place has a good reputation and the people seemed so nice there. I had high hopes for this place, but it really truly is a time waster. The recruiter told me she had all these jobs in mind for me and that they definitely could find something for me. Of course after I drove all the way there and it was no job available. Basically I wasted my time, patience, and gas money coming up to their office, for what they could have told me on the phone. I've emailed and gotten no response, I've called and got "when we find something we'll give you a call." They are very unorganized too. I had to send my resume to them multiple times because they kept losing it before I met them. Yeah they just take your resume and they're done with you. read more

I have had an outstanding experience with Hirestrategy through the entire process of job hunting to current hire. Christianna in the DC office reached out to me after finding me on zip recruiter. We had a meet & greet, discussed what I currently do, what I want to do, what I think I want to do. Coming from a very negative head space of my previous employment. Christianna eased all my concerns, gave great advice and pep talks when I had interviews coming. She took the time to really get to know me and find my best fit. Which happens to be an internal position with Hirestrategy. I had several interviews and all my interactions with the DC team have been amazing! I am over the moon to be apart of such a Rock-Star company! And who gets to actually gets to work with their recruiter !? BONUS! read more

HireStrategy is THE worst. I interviewed with one of their recruiters who claimed she would help me find a job. HireStrategy needs to consider hiring better recruiters. read more

I had a phone interview scheduled for today that was set up yesterday. I was ready 10 minutes before I was supposed to get the call, which was to be at 11:00 AM. At 11:20 AM I emailed the recruiter who I had been in touch with stating that we had a time set up at 11 AM and that I wanted to know if we were still scheduled to talk. I received the following email within minutes: "We were pulled into an emergency meeting. My sincere apologies! The phone call will only last for about 10-15 minutes. I would be happy to accommodate your schedule after hours. However, I just really cannot leave this meeting right now." I replied with a "thank you but no thank you" since I was put off by the fact that the recruiter didnt take the time to let me know she would have to reschedule, to which she replied: "I completely understand. Things got a little out of hand, and I honestly forgot." Very unprofessional. Not impressed at all. read more

If they can help you, that is great. The Gaithersburg and DC office called and lots of lip service. They are checking if I fit with their openings. First time, the recruiter got me to stop by his office (waste of time). It could easily be handled on the phone. The DC office offered Skype but the call was long. Again, lots of lip service and there were hardly any followup. I did to block their phone number and email address. I would advise not to make the trip to their office. Its your time. Everything can be discussed on the phone to see if they can really help. Remember Recruiters like these are a dime a dozen. read more

I don't recommend Hire Strategy at all. The recruiter I've been working with, didn't understand my needs and sent me to an awful job, not even in my career prospective. (He did described the job as a "wonderful opportunity to get into the company") Later, when I quit the job after a week being there, he didn't follow up with me or give me any advice. However when I found a new temp contract position, somehow he found out the name of the manager I was working with, and sent 2 more people on the project! Don't even bother going there, they are using people only to get more connections with managers you'll be working with and by sending more people to the jobs, they'll bring more competitors for you. read more

This was about a month ago. I got a call 3 weeks or so ago saying that there was good news, I was going to have an interview. I followed up a week later, and was told there still wasn't any news. I followed up again, and never heard back. There was another position in which I was simply given the information but nothing about applying. First off let me say, Clair Saeger you are on a roll here after reading other reviewers! Not only is she a delight to work with, but also was extremely personable and professional, always keeping in mind what her client's future goals are and perspectives might be. She makes contact every few days, alongside her supervisor, Laura Baker, and maintains continuous and helpful communication. Clair's position options for me were always right on target and it was obvious she listened carefully to what my needs were in my next future employer. Additionally, Laura and Clair even came to my current employer to visit and catch-up; this totally took me by surprise and even demonstrated to me how much more HireStrategy truly does care about each of its' clients. I am now lucky enough to say I've been hired permanently in a perfect company for someone such as myself, and I have Clair and Hire Strategy to thank! In conclusion, I recommend Clair to all of my friends and family. Keep up the great work, Hire Strategy, and Clair, you're the best! read more

At first I was happy to have a job in my field, but when my contract ended I was left in the dust. Even though I worked hard and the company I was a temp with liked me, there was no opportunity for a permanent position. I was told the transition would be more seamless between positions. Don't waste your time with this company. read more

I'm only giving them one star because zero stars isn't an option. HireStrategy recruited me away from a pretty stable long-term contract for what was supposed to be a "contract to hire" position. It sounded like a sweet deal - about the same money (a little less than what I had been making) and a MUCH better commute in exchange for no vacation or holiday time and crappy insurance compared with what I had at my previous job, but I was assured that the company really wanted to hire someone full time - they only did the whole CTH thing so they could try people out with less risk before hiring them. The day I arrived at my new job, the hiring manager at the client site was introducing me around and mentioned to someone that I was only going to be there for 3 months. I was shocked - I had asked my recruiter at least once how long of a contract it was and was only ever told that it was "contract to hire." There was never a time limit put on the contract. After hearing that it was only a 3 month contract, I called the recruiter and she acted surprised. She assured me that the hiring manager was only saying that so they wouldn't give me a false sense of security in case things didn't work out and the company decided not to hire me. After a couple of days on the job, I finally got a computer and began seeing multiple emails from the hiring company where they were introducing new VPs, and then two weeks later, the company had a large layoff. When I again called the recruiter, she acted surprised to hear that the company was in the middle of an organization change and assured me again that it was a contract to hire position. About a month after the initial layoff, there was another layoff, and I knew at that point that I wouldn't be staying on. My end date was the 16th of October, and I wasn't due to start my new job (through a completely different company) until November or possibly even December. I never received any information about COBRA benefits until exactly a month later. The postmark on the envelope was November 15th, but it didn't arrive in my mailbox until November 16th. The letter stated that "In order to receive health insurance benefits for the month of December" I would need to fill out the forms and return them by November 15th. So not only did HireStrategy basically lie to me to get me away from the pretty good job I was at, but they also screwed me out of having health insurance for 2 months by not having their crap together enough to get me the COBRA information in a timely manner. Bottom line, I will never use this company again, and I would advise anyone who is in talks with them to find a better recruiting company. read more

While it was not an awful experience, it was a massive, nay, colossal waste of time. After sending my resume to what I thought was an actual company looking for an entry level job, it turned out to be HireStrategy. Fine, I thought, maybe they will help me. They also asked me to send in a large amount of paperwork. Anyway I went in for an interview. After having been kept waiting for 10ish minutes, I was told that they would find me a job either as a 6 month contractor, part time, or full time in an entry level position. Great, I thought, I will get a real job and not bounce from one internship to another. My recruiter, then asked me to keep her informed of any other jobs that I applied to. I did for about a week. I had not received any sort of communication from her, either about the jobs I was applying to or about any potential leads that she had for me. When I followed up again and received no response, I decided that I was better off representing myself, because they clearly did not care. As I read over these reviews I am clearly not the only one who had a less than optimal experience. I would not recommend anyone to HireStrategy. First time, I get a call, was brought in, told I had a great resume and that we'd follow up on the phone. After weeks of trying to get in contact with my recruiter with no luck, I gave up only to have him call me back MONTHS later after I had found a job myself. I had another dealing with them where I get a call, I missed the call but called back immediately within 5 minutes to the phone number they suggested and got no response. I got another call from another recruiter (3rd one now) at HireStrategy and same thing. Get a call, brought in and no follow up and when I attempt to follow up, no response. I am writing this review because I was recently approached by HireStrategy about an opening they have. After an initial phonecall I decided to do some research and read their reviews here. So far everyone writing a review has either had an awful experience or has posted a review written so formally and formulaic that it looks fake. However, I understand why a recruiter would get a terrible review if the person could not find a job through them, so I'm also skeptical of those. I have not yet gone to the company in person, yet when I do I will come back and update this review with more feedback. Ignore the stars for now. UPDATE: Ok here's the deal with HireStrategy in a short version: Like any normal recruiting agency they will help you if it helps them, but they will also actively screw you in that pursuit. Here's the longer version: The person contacting me was very helpful at first, looked over my resume, gave pointers and set up an interview telling me it was "99%" probable I'd get the job. I interviewed, it went really well and my contact called back a day later saying they were offering me a job. This was all BS. They do this in order to keep you on the line so you don't take other jobs - my contact basically admitted this to me - while they haggle with their clients over how to place people. For 3 weeks I was told that they were just looking for a start date so they could do a group training - also BS. In reality the company just wasn't sure if they wanted to commit to hiring a number of people and was just stalling using HS. It was dishonest, deceitful, and cost me a number of smaller temporary opportunities that I turned down on false promises of work. They are always looking to place people and will work quite hard to do so as they make commission off how many people they place. Even after they fessed up that they were just stringing me along they still followed up offering me other interviews and positions because I have a strong resume and they knew they would be able to place me. You can go to them but be forewarned that they are professional bullsh*t artists and you shouldn't believe a word they say until you have a paycheck in your hands. Proceed skeptically, pursue their offers, but if you get any other offer in the meantime you should take it. read more
