I've been boarding my dogs at Hip Hounds for OVER 10 years and have never had a bad experience. We have had short stays to two week stays. Michael and his team are amazing and take excellent care of our babies. Our previous dog, Cornbread(RIP) LOVED going from the time he was a young boy to a senior man. They took amazing care of him through the years and maintained his many medications when he started to slow down. He was placed with dogs who were at his speed and I loved getting to watch him on the webcams. We later adopted a new dog, who is very selective of who he likes...they were so patient with getting to know him and introducing him to camp. Now he loves it and pulls us through the door as soon as we arrive. We love that we can trust he's in safe hands and know he's having a blast. This review is not easy to write, I'd been avoiding it for a long time, but I need to comment on what happened to us. I wish I could be like many with a good review. Unfortunately, my review is tragic considering the circumstances we have been through. We boarded our two girls in December 2023, the day we arrived to pick them up the staff at Hip Hounds realized our girls were not at the facility. Some how they got out and frantic search ensued. We managed to recover one of them, but the other went missing. It's now been 11 months later, and we still don't know what happened to her. We hold on to hope that she is being cared for by someone and will continue to offer a reward to reunite with her. We have tried to come to an amicable resolution with Hip Hounds for our missing pet, but we are far apart on an agreement. We hope a judge through the court system can bring closure to our situation. I never would have imagined this could happen. You expect that when you drop your pet off, you will be able to pick them up later. In our case that was not the situation, I hope this never happens to anyone. As you may guess, I will not be boarding at this facility ever again. read more

My dogs have only been boarded here once. I was put at ease to be able to watch them during their business hours. During their stay, which we currently have another 2 nights, my German shepherd wasn't looking too good and they called me immediately and let me know they were going to be in a quieter area with her sister. The following day, I spoke with Michael who said he was just about to call me. He was very transparent and said she was definitely not doing well. I had told them she was given the possibility of having cancer. We had just seen her vet 2 days prior to their stay at Hip Hounds to run more tests and get the "ok" to stay. Her levels were almost normal and we thought we had more time. Michael went above and beyond to say that he would most definitely take her to her vet and he did! Unfortunately, he wouldn't be coming back for her. I am gutted as I type this, but wanted to say that Michael and his team have been amazing the whole time. They care about all of the dogs that are in their care. I will continue to use them for my one remaining dog. read more

We have an 18 month old rescue dog who did the first 10 months of his life in a kennel so he still has some energy management issues. Hip hounds perfect combination of playtime and rest time really works for him. We love doggie daycare and boarding to bark about :-) Each time Tipper stays at Hip Hounds he comes home clean, happy, relaxed and ready to snuggle. I am so delighted with their services because without Hip Hounds we would not be able manage his energy indoors. Thank you guys for all that you do! Kinda late with this review. I took my dog there for evaluation so I would board him there while on my trip. When I bought him home from his evaluation, I noticed his fur was clumpy. When I checked he had multiple puncture wounds (bite marks) around his neck and on his back. I took him to the vet next day for treatment. I emailed Hip Hounds with pictures, few days later they called saying none of the staff saw what happened. The person on the phone went on to tell me that in his opinion they look like scratch marks. REALLY!! The Vet and I were wrong about the bite marks. They never offered to pay my vet bill or say sorry. My dog still has issues with other dogs, especially bigger ones. He never had problem with dogs before Hip Hounds. The only reason I tried out Hip Hounds because it had an inside/outside play area. I regret my discussion of trying them out. I would NOT trust this place. read more

The staff themselves was nice and would consistently say they loved my dogs, but the owner himself would have nothing but complaints about my dogs. Complaints that directly contradicted what his staff would tell me. 1 of my dogs has separation anxiety which I disclosed before ever leaving them and the staff said they could handle it and after visits the staff regularly told me both dogs were doing well and minimal issues and they loved my dogs but then the owner would contradict this and give me a list of reasons he didn't think my dogs could go to his facility anymore. My dogs are northern breeds and howl, it's the breed and this was 1 of his consistent complaints. Why you own a dog boarding place if howling bothers you and you can't handle dogs with separation anxiety? Its sad. read more

This review is going to be lengthy; I have strong feelings about this place lol. I've been taking my 2 year old lab/pit mix to Hip Hounds for about 8 months. I've tried other places that didn't work out for various reasons: 1) too expensive; 2) reservations are required too far in advance/difficult booking; 3) limited hours that didn't work for my schedule; 4) small or no outdoor area; and 5) most importantly, my dog didn't like it or seemed nervous/hesitant to be there. Hip Hounds doesn't have any of the issues above. They don't require reservations which is great if I need last minute daycare, or simply want to give my dog an impromptu play day. They're very reasonably priced and even offer discounts on packages (which have an unbelievable refund policy - if you don't use them or want to cancel at any time, they'll refund the unused portion 100%.) They're open until 7pm on weekdays which is really helpful with my work schedule. The outdoor space is expansive for the dogs to run and play. My dog loses her mind when I tell her we're going to daycare and is super excited every time I drop her off. That said, truly the best part about Hip Hounds is the people. They're always so friendly and it's obvious they genuinely care about the dogs. As a dog parent you just want to know your pet is safe and happy when you're away, and Hip Hounds excels at providing that comfort. Everything about the way Michael runs his business - from the refund policy mentioned above, transparency of facilities (including tours upon request and daycare webcams), the personalization in every interaction, and the attention to detail with each pet - they just exude integrity in a way that's rare to find. The only turn off I could envision for some people is that this isn't a facility with all the "luxury accommodations" that some places have. Your dog won't be boarded in a private room with a tv and optional bedtime story upgrade. This is a place for dogs that want a lot of space to run around freely and play with friends and are happy to sleep on their own dog bed in a kennel at night. It's perfect for dog owners who prioritize flexibility, integrity, and your dog's freedom/energy exertion over other bells and whistles. Hip Hounds is exactly what I want in a daycare and boarding facility and my dog couldn't be happier here. read more

Hip Hounds has been a godsend for us. They offer daily drop ins for that last minute daycare, have reasonable hours and rates and treat our dogs well. Best of all, they have cameras that allow us to watch our dogs and see what they're up to (usually a combination of butt sniffing and sleeping). Love how much exercise the pups get while they are boarded. Other places have the dogs kenneled for the majority of the day, but not here! After a 5 day trip, my boy was so tired, he immediately took a nap after coming home. The webcams are also a great way to check up on your pup when it's playtime. However our puppy visibly came home with kennel cough and no one said anything to us!!! Hip Hounds is amazing, not only for my sake ( I often worried a lot about about both my dogs at our old " day care "), but for my two doggos. The old day care, which was nice (spacious, expensive, and had many crates), only let the dogs play for a max of 2 hours out of the 8 hour day they were there. Whereas Hip Hounds does the exact opposite, the dogs only have a nap/ lunch for 2 hours and play for the rest of the day (maybe 8 hours depending when you drop them off). The best things EVER are: dropping off and watching them willingly go with the staff, watching them play on the webcams, and picking them up, happy and tired. Being a dog mom is hard, but thanks to Hip Hounds, it makes everything easier, even if it's two days a week. read more

We LOVE Hip Hounds... and my dog REALLY LOVES IT! We have been taking him here since he was a puppy, and we wouldn't think of taking him anywhere else. Both of my dogs had a wonderful time here at hip hounds. I saw my shepherd mix Argo having a blast, trying to play and make friends with every dog, even if they didn't want to play with him lol. My little dog took awhile to warm up and stayed close to the trainers. But she seemed to have a great time and both dogs seemed to be in a great mood when I picked them up. Hip Hounds is a great place. My dog loves going here and I really like the ability to check in on him time to time with the webcams. They take good care of the dogs and I really like that they are in play groups all day long with free roam to the outside whenever they want. There are always a lot of other dogs there so my pup always has constant socialization. First time my dog went he played too hard and definitely pulled a hamstring. Every time I pick him up he's exhausted. Prices are also very fair/competitive and even though I moved from North Austin to East Austin, I still prefer to take my dog to Hip Hounds. First off, I am not one to make a review. I have to either be blown away or highly disappointed. Thankfully this review is in regards to being blown away. My dogs have been going to Hip Hounds for over a year. Due to moving away they don't do the daycare as much they used to but more so for boarding Michael, the owner, and the whole Hip Hounds team are exceptional. I have researched closer boarding places and the prices are astronomical for two dogs. Other places up charge for play time and additional potty breaks. At Hip Hounds your dog can play all day if they want or if they are feeling lazy (which my big one usually is when I look at the web cams) they can lay down. There are no surprises, just a hard working team who love dogs. Michael is incredibly accommodating and knows I can be one of "those" dog moms calling to check in if I don't see the pups on the web cam. He is prompt when taking calls, incredibly respectful and obviously cares about the animals. If you are on the fence, do not hesitate. Whether we are gone overnight or for a week (military family... it happens) Michael and the Hip Hounds team has our business. read more

Had a horrible experience here with our dog. I brought her in for day camp, excited about the opportunity to watch her play on camera. What I saw upset me, (they allowed other dogs to mount ours multiple times) so I called and asked why nobody stopped the behavior. I was told "this is their way of working things out in a pack". The behavior continued and you could see my dog stressed out. The second time I called, I asked to speak to whomever was supervising the group. The gentleman who answered the phone said it was him. Nobody was in the play area with the dogs! I shared my concerns and he once again tried to assure me it wasn't a concern. He then called me back 30 min later and shared that our dog was "not a good fit". She snapped back at the dog who mounted her. Upon my arrival the same gentleman continued to support their stance on mounting and the unneeded direct supervision in the play area. For the price they charge, they should have a supervisor directly in the play area being the "pack leader", not sitting behind a desk dictating outdated animal behavior concepts. read more
