I love Himitsu on lake city. I used to live by it and TOTALLY took it for granted. Have moved since and have been searching for the chronic teriyaki.... Himitsu Teriyaki and Zaina are two outstanding restaurants that are close together on this tiny patch of land. Every time I pass by here, I don't know which one I'd rather choose. But I do know that Himitsu will definitely fill you up because its portions are huge at reasonable prices. The special thing about this place is that you will be full no matter what. They provide an endless supply of soup while you wait. One bowl of soup probably fulfills half your sodium needs for the day, but it also means there isn't really any waiting for your food. Wow. This place keeps raising their prices which is fine except that the food quality continues to go way down. My buddy and I have been very disappointed the last two times ? We were hoping the first time was a fluke). My friend's Teriyaki was dry and fatty and tough and leathery... the last two times. In the good old days their teriyaki was moist, juicy and delicious. Now it is like jerky.., it literally is hard to chew. The new owners are friendly but even though because of Covid there is no more delicious complimentary soup the prices seem to go up every few months while the food quality has plummeted. NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM HERE!! The lady is absolutely rude and hung up on me multiple times when I was trying to resolve a simple issue... I wanted to order salad dressing. We made a door dash order to Seattle children's and she knew exactly where it was going. For someone to know we're obviously staying at the children's hospital for a serious reason and treat us the way they did is BEYOND wrong. This business should be shut down for the lack of customer service. Or the lady should just be fired. The 1 cent it would have costed them to give us a side of salad dressing has cost them a customer who will never go back and will never let anyone I know go there. I didn't even get a chance to try the food because the woman was incredibly rude before I even had a chance to order. I walked in with the intent to order, and I had a small piece of trash that I put in their waste basket as I entered. The woman at the counter yelled at me and said it was for customers only, I explained that I was wanting to order lunch and she wouldn't have it. She told me I couldn't order food and actually made me remove my piece of trash from the wastebasket. I've never had an encounter that ugly before and I can't imagine this person providing polite service based on what I experienced. It's a good place to stop for a quick, filling meal. I come here often because I work across the street and the options are really this, Subway, Little Caesars and Zaina. So, in order to not eat the same thing over and over, I switch it up. I like this place because of the free soup (awesome during this cold winter) and nice service. However, as far as how it stacks up to other Teriyaki places I've been to, it's not the best. Good, just not AS good. I've had the beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, yakisoba and the fried rice. Everything tasted great. The fried rice was a liiiiittle greasier than others that I've had and the chicken was cubed, which was a little weird and unnatural looking. I didn't think it was possible to screw up spicy chicken teriyaki, but my order was nearly inedible. As others have noted, the teriyaki seems to be made in advance and then microwaved when ordered. We love this lil teriyaki place. It's close to where we live so sometimes we walk over but I've also ordered it on doordash with great success. I love getting the combo because the egg rolls are excellent and I'm a sucker for potstickers. I've always gotten the spicy sauce and it's so good! Teriyaki in Seattle is ubiquitous but it's also pretty ordinary...but not here! It starts with a very clean, calm fresh store that made me WANT to stay and eat. Hardwood floors, built in benches, rice paper lamps with cherry blossoms. Quiet cheerful music too. And the food, dannnng I am FULL but I want to order more! The spicy chicken is he best I've had in Seattle, huge portions for just $9. I shoulda had leftovers ibut it was too good! I also loved the complimentary soup at the self serve station. I've been to this spot (conveniently located near me) on a couple of occasions. The food is always pretty tasty. They have free soup which is pretty nice as well. I just went there the other day though at 8:52pm, they close at 9pm. We walk in because the door is AJAR and she says "We're closed". That's it, no I'm sorry or anything. And to remind you that we still had 8 frikkin' minutes until they closed. Just decoded to stop cooking? Don't want my money? I was pretty turned off by this and don't think I'll be there again. Service is important to me and I can find much better elsewhere =P Ehhh, and then I just gave it another try and I got katsu ad there was the tiniest drizzle of katsu sauce on there. with no refill! I love Himitsu. It's my go-to take-out place a couple times a month when my husband's not cooking dinner. Our standard order is a chicken teriyaki and a gyoza plate (extra salad, less rice). My husband and I divvy up the chicken and dumplings, and with rice and salad it's a light but filling dinner. The quality's consistently good - chicken is well-cooked and not fatty; gyoza are deep-fried crisp with tasty filling. Prices are good, service is friendly and quick (especially when you call ahead - just give them 10 minutes). Enjoy. read more

I'm pretty picky when it comes to anything remotely related to Japanese food. I study Japanese cooking with a professional chef, I have a degree in Japanese studies, I lived in Japan and I even host my own Seattle based Japanese food blog. So I feel like I know what I am talking about. First Teriyaki is NOT Japanese food. Or at least in the traditional sense. I never once saw it served in any restaurants over there. Instead I consider teriyaki to be pretty much a Seattle thing. Or a west coast thing. That said I have nothing wrong with fast food that tried to be a little bit healthy. That is why I like this place. 1. They serve good rice. It is not mushy like paste. 2. Their teriyaki is made with real meat. I say this because once when my fiance and I ordered teriyaki at Alderwood mall the cook poured a gray goo from a bucket that said "chicken" and within a few moments of being on the grill it turned into "meat." 3. Their teriyaki sauce taste good. They also put the right amount on the meat which is nice. I hate getting a little bit of chicken with my sauce. 4. I don't feel like I have completely violated my body after eating from there. 5. Nice people, nice quick service and nice clean decor. I have never had anything but the chicken teriyaki. I don't want to go to a teriyaki joint for Chinese that is what Chiang's is for down the street. And I can get better yakisoba and gyoza at home. Forget the sushi too. Why go to a teriyaki joint for sushi?????? As far as teriyaki goes my standards admittedly are sort of low. However this is pretty much the only teriyaki joint in Seattle that I have tried and would return to again. read more

QUALITY: I supppose if you don't care about quality, then this is "average" and almost like fast food...or in that neighbourhood. Like I said, I didn't get the sense, from the menu, that this was true Japanese food. I asked for the Oshinko Roll, but they were unable to do any special orders. SERVICE: The service was good enough. We got seated right away, and got what we requested. PARKING: They are in a strip mall, so parking is not an issue. COST: The cost is average for American Asian foods. I spent $20 for my dinner that included a beer (I love me some booze, so I had a beer since they didn't have a full-on bar there.) ATMOSPHERE: It has a small strip mall atmosphere...old fashioned wood panels on the walls...small tables snuggly situated next to one another...get the picture? RETURN?: Pass. Okay, it's Teriyaki how can it rate 5 stars? Your right but this little place is way better than the 3 stars it gets now and deserves better. Service is prompt. The facility is clean. The portions are large and they even plate the food in an eye pleasing manner. Mostly though it just tastes great and I have eaten here 1/2 dozen times with the same great experiences. We have been dining here for years and wanted to give the new owners time to settle in and make any changes they wanted before giving a review. Well... Things have gone downhill plain and simple. The chicken has gotten rubbery and the beef... is strange. I am not sure if it is the cut of the beef combined with the over marinating and over cooking, but it is not good. The final straw was when we ordered our usual to-go items and we get home to find that they made changes to the ingredients (I have food allergies), but did not change the menus or pictures. When I called to get a replacement item they proceed to say that things have been the same for 12 years. Fine... Maybe they are new. But when my husband goes to pick up the replacement he has to pay??? So they made us pay for all 3 meals. In short not good!!! read more

Coming in here was like walking into one of the Teriyaki restaurants on the Ave with the cleaninless I was kind of used to from the Teriyaki restaurants in Redmond. (cringe.) As far as bang for your buck, you get a lot of food for a decent amount of money. But nothing was memorable, the teriyaki sauce is that overly sweet, thick sauce. The gyoza, however, was surprisingly juicy considering it was deep fried. So thumbs up on that. The omurice looked like it could've fed a small village. It was astounding. For those tempted by the bento? I would skip it. The california roll is lackluster, the tempura not really even tempura. I did like the copious amount of salad that they decided to fill up the empty spots on the bento for. Honestly, the free soup was their saving grace. This is on the way home when I pick my mom up for work which makes it convenient if we're hungry but after this last time I will never be back. I decided to order something safe; a vegetable stir fry with chicken. When it arrived it was drenched in garlic. It's like they tried making a savory sauce but it didn't thicken enough so they added minced garlic from a box with garlic powder. It was grainy, soggy and disgusting. This is another one of the restaurants across the street from my salon, so I end up here more often than other places. It's not bad, but it's not great. I know that usually the chicken teriyaki is the staple of a good teriyaki joint and a good starting point, but since I don't eat chicken, I don't know if it's good or not. Once the only place to get teriyaki in all of Seattle, now it's nothing more than a distant afterthought. Prices have significantly raised over the years. Turning what was once a 8 dollar lunch into a 15 dollar lunch. That would be fine under normal circumstances considering I've been eating here since they opened around 2008. But the quality also seems to have gone down. Don't really understand why the chicken is all fatty, the rice undercooked or old, gyozas reheated in the microwave.
