    Schezwan Fried Rice -Veg
    Rahul V S.

Whenever the word 'Momo' propped up during food conversations with friends, the restaurant name 'Himalayan Kitchen' always surfaced. So when my mum was paying us a visit in Toronto , I decided to explore this place with her and my better half. We visited the place on a Saturday during lunch hour. I was surprised that it wasn't crowded with no wait time, especially after the rave reviews I'd read. I was even more surprised to see that there was only one person handling the front of house duties, playing the roles of cashier-server -- who promptly directed us to our seat and handed us 3 menu cards to choose from. What we ordered: - Tandoori Veg Momos (16.99) - Schezwan Fried Rice(16.99) - Chicken Lollipop (16.99) The dishes came quickly, the first one being Tandoori Veg Momos, which to be honest seemed... confusing. Tandoori means cooked in a Tandoor over coal. These ones seemed deep fried, were covered with red (which i am guessing is Tandoori sauce and hence the name) and green sauces, and served on a hot iron plate -- more like a sizzler. However, even though smothered in all the sauces, the momos were crunchy on the outside and the first bite gave a really nice feel. The momo filling - Carrot, Green chilli, and cabbage - was quite flavourful and with the sauces it was quite delectable. Note: They have an inhouse chilli sauce on the table which is quite spicy. If you like spicy food, I highly recommend you to try it with the momo. Rating: 7.2/10 Second dish that arrived was the Schezwan Fried Rice. Another surprise, since the rice and color wasn't the one that we are normally used to i.e. Normal Hakka Schezwan Fried Fried rice is usually made of Sella Basmati, is bouncy with separate grains, and is Red in color, and has no peas. This one was a bit saucy, grains were round shaped, and had peas. However, being a Nepali Restaurant, we surrendered that this may be their style of Schezwan rice and dug in. It was surprisingly delicious. It was sweet-spicy, and quite flavorful. I'd still prefer to not have the peas, but overall we enjoyed this new style of Schezwan rice. Rating: 7.5/10 The final dish was Chicken Lollipops, which from the looks of it, were sauted in a red sauce. As someone who loves chicken lollipops, I was quite excited to try them. But the excitement soon subsided. The lollipops were nice and crunchy on the outside but the chicken felt dry and rubbery. Also the sauce was a bit on the sweeter side -- sonthe chilli sauce came to my rescue. Honestly, they were just over par in taste. Rating: 6.2 /10 Overall, this was just above average experience. May be I went in expecting a lot. To foodies: Please do try this place, especially if you like Momo. But don't go in with huge expectations. The food is decent and quite flavorful, so one visit with friends/family is a must. To Restaurant Management: Your food is good but it can be great. Don't know if it was a one off, but the lollipops were a let down. Also, every dish had a sweet taste to them - which I believe shouldn't be the case, especially Schezwan Lollipop.Your service however is top notch. Overall Rating: 7.1 /10 Signing off... Tandoori momos and chili chicken (dry)

My friend and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night. We got here around 7:30 and waited about 45 minutes for a table to become available. There's no waiting area, but you can leave your number with the host and come back. We ordered the tandoori momos with beef and the chili chicken (dry). Both dishes were excellent! Very flavorful and hearty. The food was worth the wait.

??? Wait. I saw this package and the momos somewhere else. Yes, it was exactly the same as what I had at Momo2Go - Queensway. As I mentioned in my Momo2Go's review, the momos were disappointing. Himalayan Kitchen is right in the Parkdale's Momo junction. What I expect here in momo is hominess. Made from scratch, no frills, strong wrapper and simple but flavorful fillings, and if possible, affordable. But their momo wrappers are machine pleated lacking chewiness and taste, no character. The meat inside lacks meaty texture like a paste product. Like Momo2Go, the soup is not well integrated with the meat filling, lacking natural flavor. The price was reasonable but here in Parkdale, you can get homemade momos for the same quantity and price (even less) with better quality elsewhere.

    Makhani momo and schezwan noods

Have been to this restaurant before but decided to order takeout this time since they usually have a pretty long wait. Ordered through the app, pretty straight forward but prices have definitely gone up a bit. Paid about 55$ for 3 dishes. Makhani momos slapped, but the fried ones were a miss. Lacking flavour. Noodles were SPICY so beware. Nice staff when I picked it up, really prompt and got my order in a nice reusable bag.

It's a tiny yet homey restaurant, and it seems to be popular for takeout too. Honey Chili Fries - French fries but much tastier with the honey garlic sauce. Chicken Chili - I think that's what we had; chicken chunks with a special sauce. They have so many varieties of momos - it's like the Tibetan version of sautéed Chinese soup buns, but you can go for fried ones too. I think we had the Malai Masala Momo and Tandoori Momo. One was with a yellow creamy sauce, and the other was with a darker-coloured sauce. Both were delicious. Their fried rice was yummy too. The service was at a typical diner level; the staff tried their best while being busy with takeout orders to accommodate our needs. The place could have been way better if it was cleaner and more spacious (I almost slipped while coming in), but the food was great, so I'm not complaining. Food (quality, creativity, consistency) - 5/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - NA/5 Ambience (interior design, cleanliness) - 2.5/5 Service (courtesy, knowledge, timeliness) - 3.5/5 Value (quality vs. price) - 3.5/5

Steamed Momo, Bombay Masala Momo, and Vegetarian thali. All vegetarian dishes.

A very homey but mighty restaurant that serves traditional Tibetan cuisine along with Nepalese and Indian fusion dishes. Sadly, they no longer serve their vegan Momos. In the heart of Little Tibet, my husband and I arrived and were quickly seated at a table where the wait staff promptly brought us water. We had trouble scanning their QR code which was found on each table. After going to several different tables, we finally were able to secure the QR code. Other patrons were all doing the same. After that fun exercise, we ordered Steamed Vegetable Momos, Vegetarian Jhol Momos, and Nepali-Style Vegetarian Thali. We had not realized how filling the Momos were and I have to say, the star of the lunch was the Vegetarian Jhol Momos. The most disappointing was the Nepali-Style Vegetarian Thali and that they had not included the roti, which was supposed to come with it. I had to pull it up on my phone to show the waiter, after he feigned ignorance that this entree does indeed come with roti. Afterwards, he finally admitted their machine had broken and that we could get a free beverage. If he had just told the truth in the beginning, I would have been fine but for him to fib and pretend he had no idea what I was talking about, left a very sour note because I started to wonder what other short cuts they were practicing. That alone made me deduct a star from their rating.

Sweet lassi (top left), chili momo- chicken (below left), soya chaap chili (top right), and Nepali-Style Vegetarian Thali (bottom right).

My boyfriend was craving some spicy food on a cold Friday evening, so I suggested this place (as I've heard great reviews about the food). As the weather was very snowy, getting here was a bit challenging. However, we made it just in time for dinner- around seven o'clock. The place was small yet inviting, thanks to the golden-coloured walls and colourful decorations. There were about four people eating dinner by the windows. A young lady greeted us and gave us some time to look at the menu. We ordered chili momo (chicken), soya chaap chili, Nepali-Style Vegetarian Thali, white rice, and sweet lassi. Every item was delicious- the chili momo was juicy and spicy, the soya chaap chili was also juicy and lightly spicy, and the lassi was sweet and refreshing. My boyfriend enjoyed his vegetarian thali- the veggies were cooked well and there was just the right amount of spices to make each veggie full of flavour. During our meal, the lady came by to check-in on us and to make sure that we had everything that we needed. The portions were very generous, so we ended up taking the leftovers home. Good service and great variety of food, we look forward to many more visits!

A family owned business in Parkdale that serves traditional Tibetan cuisine along with a fusion of Nepalese and Indian cuisine. We arrived on a Monday, noonish. There was a bit of funk in the air but the restaurant appeared clean. We sat and ordered after studying the menu via scannable QR code. An order of Steamed Vegetable Momo's, an order of Bombay Masala Momo's and an order of Nepali-Style Vegetarian Thali was placed. Momo's are dumplings of Nepal. They are rather large with thick skin filled with, in our case, finely minced vegetables. I found them flavorful and juicy and although the skin is on the thicker side, it was not doughy or chewy. The steamed Momo's were very good without the accompanying sauces. The Bombay Masala Momo's are steamed vegetable Momo's sautéed in special Himalayan Sauce. The sauce was chili spice with a touch of sweetness and tomato tang which gave the already steamed Momo's a savory dimension. The Nepali-Style Vegetarian Thali was good and was reminiscent of Ethiopian Cuisine minus the spice complexity. The Momo's are quite filling and what was ordered was more than enough for me and wifey. This was our first Himalayan experience and most likely not our last.

Jhol Momo - don't get this, very bland

Went last night with some friends to try some dumplings. I ordered the following: - Delhi Masala Momo (Chicken) - Fried dumplings sauteed in special creamy Himalayan sauce topped with mint chutney. - Tandoori Momo (Beef) - Fried dumplings mixed with tandoori sauce and topped with mint chutney. While my friends ordered: - Jhol Momo (Veg) - Steamed dumplings with jhol achar (soup pickle). - Honey Chili Fries - Spiced French fries sauteed with garlic, onions, and honey garlic sauce topped with sesame seeds. Overall, I would recommend the Delhi Masala Momo (Chicken), the sauce is really quite good! FYI - I asked for mild spicy but it felt more medium, still okay for me though. I also thought the Honey Chili Fries was very unique. However, I might have wanted it to be more covered in sauce but still worth a try. The Tandoori Momo was served on a sizzling plate but a bit too dry for me. I don't really recommend the Jhol Momo (Veg) - it was quite bland even though it's in a pickle soup. I didn't taste any tangy twist or much flavour. Service was nice but once they get busy in evenings it takes a while for food to get to you. My friends ordered 2 dishes and the server forgot about it. Made an excuse it will be only 6 mins but really we waited much longer and had to remind them. Good for very casual hangouts with friends and take out.

Spent a day recently touring around Queen West Toronto and made it to Little Tibetan. I've had "Tibetan Momo" on my long list of items to try and I was finally able to check it off. I love dumplings so it's always so exciting trying another version. The skin texture of tibetan dumplings are similar to chinese ones and a bit more doughier than Japanese gyoza and Korean mandu. Simply delicious! One order had 10 pieces so we started with the beef ones and then got the mixed vegetables momos as well. To our surprise, we really liked the vegetables momos which was mixed vegetables with paneer (Indian cheese) and these were truly different from any other dumplings the we ever had. The vegetable momos have definitely made it to my top 3 favourite dumplings. I will definitely be back for more momos and to try their chicken lollipop.

We have gone back a couple times over that last few months and this place continues to be bonkers good! Last night we waited on the street for a table and the place was hopping. Worth the wait as the food came very quick one we sat down and was just as delicious as usual. Amazing flavors! Our new favorite is the Jhol Momo (with beef). The sauce is thin but tangy and a little bit spicy - it is very hard to stop yourself from licking the plate. And even though this place is super busy the staff are very friendly and efficient without seeming rushed. Love this place!

    Delicious meal from Himalayan Kitchen

This is one of my top Tibetan restaurants. I noticed some items on their website and ordering app do not overlap as much. My friend ordered the food by phone. The food still tastes great after a 1-hour commute on public transit. Food: I would call everything I ate to be comfort food. Some notable highlights - Chili fries - I think the spice level of these fries is medium (to me), and they are the ONLY fries I am happy to eat in their soggy form. They do err on the side of soggy in texture. Chole bhature/chana bhatura - the flavours in this dish make my mouth water right before I take a bite. Composed of a tangy chickpea curry and fluffy fried puffed bread. Do not underestimate this dish. Sha Bhaley - a juicy beef patty in fried dough. Even though an order comes with four patties, I can probably eat them all in a day. Service: The staff here are hospitable and friendly! Pricing: The price can't be beaten with the quality of taste and warmth you are getting.

Top to bottom: Himalayan Kitchen Special Chow Mein, Steamed Vegetable Momo, Malai Masala Momo (spicy!)

I was committed to finding and eating momos on this trip and I am so so glad I chose Himalayan Kitchen. I've never eaten anything like this food before and honestly, it was lifechanging. I wanted to order the entire menu, but that's not "reasonable", so I got the Himalayan Kitchen Special Chow Mein, which was incredible. I also got the vegetable steamed momos and the Malai Masala momos, which were so so soooooo delicious. Thank you for the delicious meal, my last in Toronto.

Unfortunately, lots of places in Toronto who make promises of serving biryani teleport you to hell. My friends and family are lifelong fans of biryani. Of all the places Biryaniwalla is highly recommended and I have usually had it at get-togethers. This time though I decided to visit the place and order a take out personally. Located a few meters away from Bathurst station , the restaurant stands amongst other Asian eataries. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by Ankita at the reception. We asked her for recommendations and she patiently explained us the options and advised 2 biryanis based on our spice tolerance and preferences. Taking her advice, we ordered: - Chicken Kaju Ghee Roast Bucket with double Masala for $43 ($39.99 for Biryani and Double masala pay $2.99 extra). - Palnadu Chicken Biryani ( $18.99) Ambience wise, the place is pretty chill with neatly lined tables for family and the huge Biryaniwalla Logo adorning the big wall. There was also a spin the wheel game, which you can play if you place a google review. While we waited for our order, the shop was quite busy with mobile food delivery orders. After about 10 minutes, we got our order and took it home. Chicken Kaju Ghee Roast Bucket: This is possibly their bestselling biryani. And I have to confess, I have tried it before and I absolutely love it. It is a delicious biryani , with nice moist chicken pieces, cashews and which is not too overpowering with spices. We ordered double masala because my better half likes it that way. The quantity for bucket was huge and can easily satify 3-4 people. Chicken Palnadu Biryani: Compared to Kaju Ghee Roast, this one is more tangy and a bit on the spicier side. It is a slight Achari taste and it was surprisingly delicious. Also, you get Salan (spicy-tangy gravy) and Raita (yoghurt mixture) with the biryanis, and they go quite well with the biryani. However, i somehow still felt the biryanis lack that authentic taste of biryani that you get in India and Pakistan. Real authentic biryanis have the inherent smoky flavor which comes from coal which is used to cook biryani and to give Biryani the dum ( pots are sealed and cooked over slow heat with coal - at bottom and at top.) Also missed that Birista that usually accompany Biryani layers. That being said, these are quite good biryanis. To foodies: Possibly the best biryani restaurant is toronto, that gets it as close to the authentic taste. The biryanis are delicious and they have lot of other options including seafood biryani. The quantities are huge and you and your loved ones will truly enjoy To management: Great biryanis. Great service by Ankita. Would love if you guys can sprinkle some birista ( fried onions) at the top layer or provide it on the side. Also it would be great if you can provide some incentive for customers who order directly from store. I knew you once had 10%.off , which when I asked was told it's still on but you need the offer card. I was a bit let down by that because at the end, it's just a formality. Also spin the wheel if you place a google review is a cheap tactic to get reviews. Just do it as a fun activity guys. Creates goodwill. As a brand strategist , I always recommend customer experience over a few dollars Overall this is a great place for biryanis. I definitely recommend it. The food itself was good, but I had issues with each. The biryani was flavorful, but had a bit too much salt and meet at the yoghurt sauce to balance it out. The curry that came with the fish was delicious, however, the type of fish they used had so many bones and it was impossible to figure out under the thick orange sauce if what you were putting in your mouth was all bone or fish. It made for a very unpleasant eating experience for a person use to eating fresh fish. Worth a try but won't be back
