We got a level 3 spice and it was loaded with flavors with a kick but not too hot. The sizzler momo is the star for me. They were crunchy, juicy and again, FLAVORFUL!! Look at you expanding your palate, Hill Country! We love to see it, and we can come back knowing that there are many rich and spicy options in the area, finally! Admittedly, I was hesitant about Nepalese food since it tends to be healthier but less creamy than Indian dishes; but at Himalayan Kitchen, the Indian entrees retain the fullness of their flavors. It's like when a gay cousin shows up as his fantastic self at your kinda-conservative grandparents' house, and it's all good. You choose how much spice you can handle from two scales. Our waiter was very sweet, as were the owners. Fewer check-ins would've worked for us, as I was stuffing my face half the time someone stopped by, but they definitely err on the side of abundance when it comes to attention. Dinner here was easily one of the best meals I've had in SA. It sucked that the Cowboys lost the game we watched there, but we appreciate that the game was shown muted on most of their TVs (5/6?). Visiting from out of town for the holiday weekend and wanted to eat away from the resort we were staying at. This place was a perfect balance between Indian and indochinese cuisine which was great for our large party and varying preferences. We got quite a bit of food for a party of 6 but the things that stood out were the tandoori chicken and the vegetable chowmein. The tandoori chicken came out of one of those fajita platters and was sizzling as it came out. The chicken was tenderly cooked and had great flavor, even had a good spice kick to it (I got Indian spicy level). The chowmein was also very good. We were seated after coming in apparently near closing (noticed how they were rushing a lot of things) and I felt bad but at least we weren't the last people out. Oops! I'm sorry for coming in late. Our server seemed to be quite the stand-up guy. One thing I did not like was the lack of a wet floor sign; if the person I saw slip didn't catch herself on a table I would have been singing a very different tune. All meals were ordered with chicken. Chicken Samosas had a nice fried crust that didn't fall apart when we chopped them up. Comes with what I believe to be a cilantro or cilantro-mint chutney and a tamarind sauce. Tamarind sauce was fine, but you can never put anything up against a cilantro-based chutney to me. Whatever other sauce is there would most likely lose, so it wasn't a fair fight for tamarind. Rogan Josh had a great, spicy smell that reminded me of Wingstop's atomic wings. My issue here was that there wasn't enough flavor for whatever reason. I don't know how something could smell so good but absolutely lack taste. Palak was probably my favorite and it was a dish I would probably not order myself based on the description. We were lucky and had our palak topped with cilantro instead of green onion - made it much better. It's a very tame spinach flavor imo but the spice combination here works so well. I'm getting more palak in the future. Tikka Masala is always a classic - this is as tomato-forward as most other tikka masalas and I'm not personally into things that taste too tomatoey but hey it was delicious regardless! You gotta really like tomato to fully enjoy tikka masala imo. Garlic naan - it's garlic naan. It's good, you know what to expect with the strong garlickiness! Decide to come here since it was one of the highest rated Indian places around. The ambiance inside is typical, nothing cheap or as though you walked into a dive but not a high end restaurant. It's a casual atmosphere. The service is five star here, the staff is very friendly and all want to help serving you. We had Rajan (business owner) wait on us for most of the meal. He is such a nice person and willing to chat with his guests. You can tell he has an interest in his customers and his business. Thank you for being so nice. The quantity of food for the price is excellent. You aren't really getting small portions for a ton of money. My only suggestion would be to increase the flavor of the food. A friend of mine and I have a friendly rivalry about trying new places to eat first. She and her husband are adventurous eaters in the same way my youngest son and I are. She told me about Himalayan Kitchen about a week ago. I knew that my son and I needed to try it, based on her raving review. We made a plan for Monday of this week, but he was ill that day. Instead, we braved the 104° outside and went today. The restaurant itself is a very nice, clean, and comfortable place. It has an upscale air to it. The tables are spread out nicely, and the booths feel fairly private. They have about eight large TVs on all of the walls, but none of them had the sound on. It was very pleasant. The server, one of two staff members that we ever saw, was a very pleasant and helpful young man. He led us to a booth, gave us menus, and took our drink orders. The menus were the only thing I didn't like, due to my "old man vision". They were covered in a shiny vinyl covering that reflected the front windows of the restaurant so much that I couldn't read mine. Fortunately, I had gone online several times and planned out my order, so it wasn't that big of a deal. All together, we ordered Himalayan Goat Curry, Sizzler Momos, Chicken Vindaloo, and garlic naan. The curry and Vindaloo both came with a large bowl of basmati rice. I don't claim to know how they cook the rice. I just know that it is not at all sticky, and the grains are separate. The flavor is very good as if there are some secret essences in the steam. It was just enough rice for big eaters such as my son and me. The naan was really good. It was warm, springy, and covered in garlic and butter. I almost ordered a second batch, but the other food was filling me up, so I didn't. I don't know how you are supposed to eat naan. I treat it more like a tortilla. I rip a small piece and then use it to pinch up some of my other food. The Sizzler Momos were delicious. They were sitting on a plate of vegetables sort of the way fajitas come and covered with a sweet tasty sauce. I ordered everything at medium heat, and these were spicy like nachos with a few jalapeño slices. Not too hot, but just enough burn to make you notice. Next time, I will try them steamed instead of fried. No reason really. I just like options. The chicken Vindaloo was very good. I have had it many times at other Indian restaurants. I liked that this had potatoes and chicken pieces that were roughly the same size. The potatoes had absorbed the sauce a bit. For me, stuffing a piece of chicken and a piece of potato in my mouth at the same time gave the best flavor combination. Okay... That brings me to the absolute highlight of this meal. The Himalayn Goat Curry was truly fantastic. The server had warned me that there would be bones. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that, yes, there were a few small bones. However, the majority of the meat chunks were boneless. Let me tell you there was a lot of meat. It had just a tiny bit of chewiness left to it that made sure you got the flavor in full effect. The curry sauce was one of the most delicious I have ever had. It gave me that eating thrill that I look for in exotic tasting food. Some day, I am going to go back and order nothing but the Himalayan Goat Curry and a mega stack of naan. I'm going to put the meat on the rice. Then I'm gonna sop up the rest of the gravy with the naan in a way that would make my mama slap the hoo hah out of me. She always taught us to save the sopping for home. The dishes we ordered ranged between $12.99 and $16.99.with tax and a tip, it was about $75. We ordered a lot of food for just the two of us. We could have ordered less and gotten out of there for less, but on a first visit we wanted to try more things. I can't wait to go back there. Why are there so many great places to eat in San Antonio, and so little time to eat out? Sizzling chicken momos were delicious, served with a bright and tangy cilantro mint lime dipping sauce. The steam and smoke can be irritating though, inducing a cough attack. The veggie samosa were good, not as much corriander spice, but these are homemade. The veggie korma was amazing, slightly sweet and little cashew flavor. This is a family owned and operated business, so they are very personable. I was traveling here on business and took some clients out to dinner. I looked on Yelp and this restaurant had very good reviews. So we decided to come here. The other party in our group had the tandoori chicken and again outstanding flavor, well cooked and highly recommend this dish. The other party in her group had chicken fried rice, hot and he said it was just fabulous. The texture was good. The flavors were good. It wasn't so hot. It was cold in your mouth. It was just perfect. The other party had Lamb Korma and it was just as fabulous as the other dishes. We also had four different types of Naan - plain garlic, rosemary, and cheese. Hot and new restaurant on the Northwest side of town! They offer Indian/ Nepalese cuisine using fresh ingredients. We had the opportunity to speak with Tripti the owner and she shared with us that they customize the flavor to your liking making sure experience in dining is satisfying and delightful. We ordered the garlic naan. It was fresh and piping hot when it was served and it didn't disappoint. I can eat this all day! They are stuffed with potato and spices. Delicious. Comes with two sauces: tamarind and mint chutney. They are good on their own since they are full flavor, but not spicy. Cauliflower Manchurian: this was bland. We did ask for mild spice, but it looked better than it tasted. The cauliflower was crispy. Sizzling chicken momo: comes on a bed of onions. For those that like spice, order it spicy since the medium wasn't spicy enough Vegetable steamed momo: these are just like dumplings with different spices. It comes with momo sauce. I don't know what the momo sauce is, but it had good flavor. Garlic naan: yum! Comes our warm. Lots of garlic for those that like it. One naan can be shared by two people. My mom surprised me for lunch and took me here. Service was excellent, our waitress was so kind to us and our baby. She kept checking on us and preoccupied my baby so I could get in some bites which I really appreciated. Food was excellent. She recommended the Sizzler MoMos and the goat curry, both of which was incredible. The goat curry was some of the most tender goat I've ever had at any restaurant and their curry is just so good. I honestly want to go back tomorrow to have the same meal over again. They also let you pick your spice level, we got medium and honestly for me, I needed a crap ton of water but the table next to us said it wasn't that spicy and asked them to give them the highest level of spice so don't necessarily take my word that the food is spicy but man, my mouth was on fire in a good way. The palak paneer was just okay, not the best I've ever had and I'd probably never order that again and the chicken naan was a huge disappointment. The sauces that they came with were very good as well. The garlic naan: MY FAVORITE the chicken tikka masala: different than what I've had before but still very good! I had an lengthy conversation prior to ordering about how I like my Indian food spicy . And my experience with other Indian restaurants that made the food very mild for me and I don't like mild Indian food ‍. The negative: That said, there was sugar in my food that I can taste, and distinct ketchup added to the Gobi 65. There was no chilies in the curry no chilies anywhere and there was no accoutrements to the meal like sliced onion, yogurt raita, pickle or lime slices. The eggplant curry was so under spiced that the prevalent taste was salt . I took my meal home and made onion gravy, ginger, garlic, fried spices and green chilies and added the leftovers to make the meal properly. The positive: I did like the fried curry leaves in the dishes. The cauliflower was tender. The naan was unique in that I ordered a sweet one that had honey . The service was great and they were really attentive and the servers tried real hard but the chef didn't do what I asked which was to provide regularly spiced Indian food. So it is a great establishment if you like mild food. Clean and uncluttered and not crowded for being in a very busy spot. It's a shame, it's one of two new Desi spots in Alamo Ranch that has sit down dining. read more

The chicken pakora was very good, the brown sauce was sweet, and the green sauce was like a mild salsa (tomatillo, not spicy). The chicken kebab was a little dry, so I may try the other kebab next time. The pork momo was very well seasoned and moist. Perfect ratio of dough and filling. The best part was the garlic naan! My wife and I walked in on a Monday around 12:30. A few people in the dining area were seated, but the service started to pick up as more people came into lunch. At total capacity, the restaurant seats between 30-40 people. Our host greeted us (I don't remember his name), but he was friendly and immediately took our drink order. My wife and I ordered water, and I also ordered their Mango Lassi (sp?). The drink was delicious! I don't know what is in it other than mango and yogurt, but there was a nice balance of flavors. The sweetness of the mango offset the sour/tart flavor of the yogurt, and the drink was silky and smooth, not chunky. Our host/waiter came and took our order a few minutes later. For starters, we ordered the garlic naan. My wife ordered the Lamb Biryani, and I ordered the Himalayan goat curry. Our food came out in about 10, maybe 15 minutes. The garlic naan came out in a basket, and two large pieces came in an order. The naan was garlicky but not heavy, and the richness of the butter flavor was complimented nicely with small fresh parsley flakes on top. The naan wasn't chewy and had a pillowy, soft texture. The Lamb biryani had basmati rice. The rice was soft, not dry. I couldn't tell you the spices used in the dish, but it was immensely complex, with different flavors coming out with each bite (I got hints of clove, bay leaf, spice peppercorn, cardamom, and curry flavors?) There could have been a little more lamb in the biryani. The chunks were small, no bigger than the size of a penny. However, the biryani in the dish is enough to feed two or three people. It was very tasty! Lastly, the goat curry was phenomenal! The tomato and onion gravy was thick, like a stew. Again, I couldn't tell you what kinds of spices they used, but the flavors were balanced. I ordered the spice to be mild (you can also order the spice level for the biryani), and I like spicey, but mild was enough for me. The spice wasn't overpowering, and I could enjoy my food, but I did have beads of sweat forming behind my head. I will caveat that with the goat, you do get goat meat. However, be aware that bones, cartilage, and fat are associated with some of the meat pieces. The bones can be small, too, and I did have to fish out some small bone pieces in the dish. This dish could also feed two and comes with white basmati rice. Overall, for our first time here, it was a good experience. I will come back and try some other things on their menu. The staff seemed friendly, the restaurant was clean, and if you like alcohol, there is a bar in front of the restaurant, too. Try this place if you're feeling adventurous and want to skip the usual chain fare in Alamo Ranch! read more
