Came here for a Valentine's lunch and well, can't say I heart it very much. Even the great service and friendly staff were not enough to give this restaurant a future spot on our ethnic food rotation. The Butter Chicken should be a staple in any Indian cuisine, but this one slipped through as merely average. I ordered a spice level 4 of 5, which should have set my sweat glands working overtime, but I could not even taste much spice or flavor. Wifey selected the chef's special and it was anything but special. The pricing is fair and the inside atmosphere is low key, which is what I expected from a shopping center establishment. My recommendation is to add in some authentic spices from the east and have the experience be worthy of the name.
My husband and I were in the mood for some Indian food and thought we would give this place a shot. As you enter, the decorations and music really set the mood for a wonderful experience. The service was quick and the food was delicious and big portions for the cost. I ordered the chicken curry with mild spice and it was delicious and definitely had a kick to it. My husband ordered the lamb masala (not pictured) with high spice and I felt as it was less spicy than mine but it was also very delicious.
Been wanting to try it and so glad we did. Service was fabulous, they gave some suggestions on menu because I was undecided (I really enjoy Indian food). We went with samosas, garlic edamame, garlic naan, butter chicken and tikki masala both medium. Wowza, spiciest thing I've had in San Antonio that had actual flavor not just heat. Soooo good! Can't wait to try some more menu items next visit, and will turn down the heat so I can eat more.
What an experience! We were an extremely large group, yet they accommodated us with ease. From the moment we walked in, they made us feel right at home. Our hostess was warm, charming, and nothing short of amazing. When the food came out, every dish was simply delicious--most of us were full before the last plate even hit the table. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and I only wished I lived closer because I could definitely see myself becoming a regular. My drink was a little sweet for my taste, but everything else was perfect. We also had two vegetarians in our party, and they left just as satisfied as everyone else. Overall, a wonderful dining experience.
The first time I discovered this place I was very impressed. I ordered the Paneer/ Tofu Tikka Masala, which was a huge order. The food was delicious and spicy. I also ordered a Naan bread, to accompany my meal. This was a very good meal and the service was spectacular. Food came out quickly, was the perfect portion, and had great taste. The place is clean and, at the time of our visit, very sedate and quiet. Not too many people, but we arrived at an off time. Prices seemed reasonable. Himalayan kitchen is one of the places that I keep in mind to for a return visit.
This location is in a shared plaza with plenty of parking. The exterior is unassuming but the food and service is fantastic at this family owned business. Our server was also the owner and she was great about talking about the food options. We tried the momos and were not disappointed. She explained this is a popular Nepalese street food. The chicken tikka masala sauce was thick and the chicken chunks were good sized. The garlic naan was yummy and my husband really enjoyed his chicken curry. All tbe dishes were flavorful and could be more spicy depending on your preference. I rarely give a 5 but if I could I would give a 6 star, the food was that good.
Phenomenal food, service & a sweet family owned Nepalese restaurant, MUST try! Tripti the owner and her husband were so helpful to recommend dishes to try. Sometimes trying Indian food I get overwhelmed bc I don't know what everything is. She did not steer us wrong! We had the lamb momo, chicken special, and the sizzling grill. Lots of protein and great flavor! I wish we lived here and we could come back! Also their Himalayan beer was good to pair with the heat of the food
Everything was absolutely delicious! Spicy and perfect. You can choose the spice level :) they have raita and great garlic naan. I got paneer :) and I was in heaven. Thank you! Watermelon juice was great too, like a licuado.
Them samosas where the only saving Grace. The mango mojito was too sweet and tasted like syrup. The momos were bland like the sauce and just reminded me of potstickers, they didn't look like the picture they had on the site at all! My husbands plate was a spicy level of 2/5 and felt like a 4. He could eat even half of it. We actually took it home to our babysitter and let her try and she said the same thing! Both of our stomachs hurt after eating here. My husband got the mango lassi. I didn't like it. I was so sad not to like this place!!! I've been wanting to find a Nepalese place ever since I ate it overseas! Plus the waiter was really nice, but it wasn't my favorite and even my super easy going husband said he wouldn't return.
A great revisit. It's one of our favorite places in town to get naan. It's so good here. The midget had rice again. It was fantastic. We had butter chicken, samosa, the sizzling grill, and garlic/regular/and cheese naan. One of our favorite things here is that when they mean spice, they mean SPICE! We ordered a level up this time, and man we felt it. In a great way though. The rice was great. The naan was amazing as always. All of it was good to great! So why not a bump up this time to a 5?. Well the service was a little lacking this time. Forgotten items, late arrivals. I wasn't too harsh about it, the waitress was trying her hardest to keep up. Oh, and we had dessert for the first time. Wow! Some of the best red velvet I've ever had, and I'm not a fan of it. This was great! As long as you stay away from the pakoras, and order the spice level accordingly to your level, it's great!
Husband and I had a lunch date and decided to check this place out because we've never had Nepal food but love Indian. The restaurant is nestled with many other businesses and eateries around so they have quite the competition. Upon arriving, the restaurant is clean and inviting. The server was either the owner, partner or has some ties with whoever runs the business. She was professional, knowledgeable and incredibly attentive. What we ordered: - sizzling pork momo: I had no idea what this was but I wanted to try it! There were 10 dumpling like pieces which came out sizzling and looked and smelled amazing! The flavors are bold and for my husband, it reminded him of tikka masala flavors. It did have some hints or notes of those spices but it was very delicious!!! Served hot and fresh! It also has a dipping sauce that pairs nicely with it! This is a definite must!!!! - fish tikka: this too is a must dish! It came out sizzling with amazing flavors and paired with a chutney that went so good with it! The fish was perfectly cooked! It was not dry or underdone! It was perfection! My husband loved this dish! - chicken tikka masala & butter chicken: while I can appreciate the dishes, it was overly sweet for our liking. It was still very flavorful and good, just too sweet for our taste buds. We let the server know and she quickly and kindly wanted to have the chef fix it for us, which we thought was amazing! She has so much confidence in her food, she stated her chefs make everything to order and will make it just the way you like it! You can order less sweet and more tomatoey, the spice levels go from 1-5. We opted for 2 which was perfect for each dish. Just the right amount of heat in my opinion! The next time we will definitely ask for less sweet! - palak paneer: great cheese, great spinach flavor! Great heat level! Hard to mess this one up! - naan: on the weekends, they do a basket for 9.99. It comes with 6 pieces of naan (2 garlic, 2 rosemary , and 2 butter naans). The naans were on point, full of flavor, hot, fresh and just scrumptious! Ive never had rosemary naan but it reminded me of the rosemary bread at Macaroni Grill! It was divine! We will definitely be back and will try more of the Nepal style foods. The server was outstanding, the food was great! I would definitely recommend coming here and trying new cuisines out!!!
We frequent Himalayan Kitchen but got take out this time for a home movie night. I cannot recommend the pork Johl Momo enough, it is my favorite! I enjoy getting some samosas on the side to dip in the johl (I'm a sauce/dip girly) but my first order of samosas came with a dark sauce that I have to finish first before I move to the johl, it's that good! Service is always great as well!
Tried this place for lunch after passing by on my way somewhere else and looking them up to see all the glowing reviews on Yelp. Service was a little meh at first but once our server/host took our order he was very attentive. I ordered the combo rice and some butter naan. Delicious. It's delicious. The rice had so many flavors and just tasted fresh and vibrant. The butter naan was perfectly done. But there's about 7 other types of naan you can try as well. The place wasn't busy for lunch on a Thursday and even though there are several TVs none of them were blaring. You could hold a conversation. I'll def be back here again.
I've driven past Himalayan Kitchen for years and finally decided to stop in after wondering what kind of food they served. The outside of the building shows its age with some faded menu advertisements, but once inside the restaurant opens up more than I expected. At first it feels small, but past the bar there's a comfortable-sized dining room. Every TV was tuned to the World Cup, which gave the restaurant a fun, energetic atmosphere during my visit. Service was prompt and friendly. My waiter recommended the pork for the momo dumplings and also suggested pairing the meal with one of their Himalayan beers. After reading several Yelp reviews, I ordered the sizzling pork momo, naan, and chicken vindaloo. I also took the beer recommendation, which ended up being a good decision considering I ordered the vindaloo at a 4 out of 5 spice level. The sizzling momo was the standout of the meal. The dumplings were excellent, and the accompanying sauce was flavorful enough that I found myself dipping almost everything into it. The basmati rice was perfectly cooked, and the chicken vindaloo had a nice level of heat without overwhelming the other flavors. The chicken itself was tender and cooked well. Portions were generous, and I ended up with more food than I could comfortably finish by myself. Overall, this was a great first visit. Next time I'll bring my wife so we can share a few different dishes and explore more of the menu. read more

Service was great and server was top notch. We got butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. I must say it was the strangest I've ever had. Butter chicken tasted like sloppy Joe's. Just a weird spiced thick tomato paste. The tikka masala was like a thick spiced tomato soup. Neither was terrible but wasn't exactly great. Just very strange in comparison to the 100s of other times we have had these dishes elsewhere. read more
Was still on the hunt for a good butter chicken and decided to try Himalayan kitchen based off of reviews. I ordered the chili shrimp, butter chicken, samosas and rosemary naan. Now this is the butter chicken I have been looking for: rich in flavor, nice roasted pieces of chicken and a buttery texture. It went so well with the rosemary naan, but my kids devoured most of it so will probably order more naan next time. The samosas are homemade and stuffed with potatoes and peas. They also have Nepali dishes on the menu and some indo Chinese which is difficult to find here. Overall some of the best Indian food I have tried in town. read more

This was my first experience and I will be going back again. Pork MoMos, Chili Paneer (level 4 spice), lamb curry, butter chicken, and a special appetizer- Sekuwa. It was the family's 3rd anniversary and they were so appreciative of everyone that came to eat today. They took time and explained how they make each dish fresh upon ordering, they grind the spices themselves, and take great pride in what they serve. They did say that if they don't get something right, they will make it right. read more

When you walk it you are greeted with a warm welcome and care. Clean and spacious, loving the energy this place has. You can tell the values of this restaurant is in the food and people, well balanced, fresh, and worth supporting while you can. Your stomach will thank you. read more

Himalayan Kitchen might be one of my new favorite local spots! We had Mango Lassi, Sizzler Momo, Paneer Pakora, and Butter Chicken, with Cheese Naan and Roti. Everything was so flavorful, and I appreciated that you could choose your spice level for the Butter Chicken and Sizzler Momo. I like spicy food but just enough heat to enhance the flavors. We did level 2 which I felt was perfect for me, but my husband who loves spicy food felt like he could go up another level. Our server suggested the spicy sauce on the side to add heat to our liking. Our food came out quickly, and our server was kind to check on us multiple times during our meal. Definitely coming back! read more

The food was good, we really enjoyed the Lamb Biryani and the Sizzler Momo, but I think there should be a disclaimer when it comes to the lamb that there are bones in it. It's a bit of a choking hazard which while eating this I've had close calls with almost choking on a bone. The Drunken Noodles, were okay... we have had better. The Garlic Naan was quite delicious as well. My only complaint is that our Samosas came out cold, not like it's been sitting out cold, it was a bit frozen inside... just a little disappointing. read more

Service- was great even though they asked if we needed help at least 4 times in less than 10 minutes. We felt rushed to just hurry up and order. Btw... it wasn't busy. I'm glad we ordered what we did because the food was excellent!! We ordered extra Naan to take home, I still think about that bread! I prefer fried dumplings so I knew what I was getting into. The flavor was there but the steam dumplings weren't my absolute favorite. Samosas... hell yes! So good!! And the sauces were amazing. Overall the food was amazing. The playlist... woowee. Made me want to get up and dance and sing. I definitely want expecting 80's, 90'd and 00's R&B to play but it's a whole vibe. I'll be back again for drinks this time and of course the food. read more

I am so impressed that the staff wanted us to take advantage of the Valentine's Day special. He had a Nepal beer and I had a Himalayan Shirley with Tito's. Get ready because it's a journey with a lot of food. Everything was lovely. The Nepal Achar reminded me of a better potato salad with no potato. Everything is very fragrant. The gulag Jamum was a cross between a donut hole and a hush puppy but way better. I couldn't even eat half it was so good. Looking forward to leftovers tomorrow at work. The restaurant is clean and ready for large or small parties. You can watch sports on tv if you'd prefer. Great for date night! read more

Family owned restaurant you must try! We happened to look up places close to our area and this popped up. Service was amazing and top notch. The food was delicious. The lamb Korma, samosas and different types of Naans were flavorful. We will be coming back for more. read more
