I went here not realizing that Hook and Anchor had moved up the street, but I quickly recovered from my surprise and grew very happy as I perused the menu. Not just any Indian/Himalayan restaurant, but also a Balti House! Balti is an especially spicy style first made popular in the UK amongst the Indian diaspora. My taste for the style was started by a long closed spot in Hollywood on Sunset. While many Indian restaurants exist, for some reason, Balti is as rare as places with Dosai, perhaps more rare. I chose the house Balti special with basmati and naan, and everything came out as I hoped. The (by request) medium plus heat level was dialed in perfectly. A runny nose is the first indicator of success in my experience. It was so good I ate it all! I also really liked the presentation of the entrée. Next time I'll explore more than just Balti, but it really awakened old memories and taste buds. Great work! read more

I had the Lamb Tikka Masala which came with a free side of basmati rice, and there was also a complimentary cup of lentil soup to enjoy while waiting for the order to arrive. The sauce was very delicious and tasted super clean and everything, which I truly appreciated. The premium lamb inside was also very high-quality and quite tender with an even consistency throughout, in generously sized chunks. Came here for lunch with some friends (two had been before and recommended it) on a Friday. The restaurant has a little parking lot on the side, which makes it convenient along a very busy street. We started off with a cup of complimentary lentil soup. I loved that it was piping hot (I loathe lukewarm soup) and the seasonings were perfectly balanced. The cumin was there, but did not overpower! Paneer Pakora, fried cheese, served with a sweet/tart tamarind sauce, was quite nice, though I'm not a fan of paneer. My friends ordered that. Vegetable Pakora is always my go-to and these were nice and crispy. I especially liked the accompanying mint sauce which cuts the fattiness on my tongue. Goat Curry, a Nepalese specialty, is definitely a must order if you're into ovine. Bold, deep flavors with chunks of goat is perfect with the white basmati rice. Butter Chicken is a dish everyone is familiar with. The one here is very tasty and isn't heavy. That's the thing about Nepalese cuisine, it's not heavy. Chicken Kedai is one of my favorite Nepalese dishes. It's a curry of sorts, but no cream or coconut is added to it. I love how rustic it is. We asked if there was anything else recommended... Chow Mein we are told. Okay then! The noodles reminded me of Indian Chinese food. It's delicious when done right. Lamb Biryani was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Generous chunks of lamb dotted the multi layered flavors of the basmati rice. It was extremely satiating! On top of that, a few ended with Gulab Jamun, balls of sponge like cake soaked in a scented syrup. Again, not my thing. Service was exceptional as Jana was the only person working front of house during lunch. My friends ordered Badami Naan, a bread stuffed with peanuts and crushed cherries. This is our second visit. We previously rated this restaurant very highly but today we tried a whole variety of dishes we hadn't tried including lamb, chicken, and chowmein with noodles. The lamb was not fresh and very fatty - not good quality cuts. The chicken was very dry and not fresh. I think we have to be careful not to hold up a standard of western cooking when we're eating at this restaurant to experience cuisine from the Himalayas. The cooking methods are different and the sauces are different. Still we expect the vegetables and meats to be fresh and good quality. But the first visit we found the restaurant empty and it got several more parties before we left. Today it was empty when we arrived and stayed empty (for lunch) all the time we were there. The noodles for the chowmein were dry and not spicy at all. The service was good and clearly the ambiance was quiet and peaceful. I just don't see this enterprise making headway without serious promotion - perhaps a community movement - and enough funding to ensure that their sourcing is fresh and top quality no matter what. read more

Came here after getting coffee next door and it did not disappoint. We smelled the spices from just walking to the coffee shop and it made us crave curry! Lucky we came on a weekday and made it to their lunch special. This was our first time here. Daal (soup) appetiser provided with our meal was the perfect balance of savory and salty, but not too salty. Chicken momo with chili was delicious. The only reference I have is a distant relative of pan fried gyoza with a tangy chili sauce and sauteed bell pepper. The Bhera Ko Karang (rack of lamb) arrives on a sizzling iron plate as the vegetables simmer in a light sauce while the perfectly prepared lamb rests above the heat. The lamb was melt in your mouth tender. My butter chicken was spicy enough to break into a light sweat. Balanced by the rice it was yet another perfectly balanced dish. To round everything out we ordered at Jana's suggestion the Badami Naan stuffed with peanuts and cherry puree. This was unlike any naan I've ever had, the texture of the crust slightly reminded me of a light pizza crust, you can smell the slight char from the oven then you get a slightly sweet aroma of the nuts and cherries. This was the perfect compliment for my wife to temper the spice of my butter chicken. Finally my wife ordered the Ginger Lemonade which was incredibly refreshing. Walked to store at 12pm to ask why the notification never let me know order was ready but the door was locked with paper note saying "TAKE OUT ONLY" I tried calling many times to see what was going on. I never got an update that the order was ready for pick up the entire day but when I checked the status, it says completed and I was charge for the food I never got. read more

I asked the waitress her favorite of the options for "house special traditional nepali thali" and they turned out to amazing. This review is long overdue! This cozy spot took over where Hook and Anchor used to be, and it's such a welcome addition. There was only one staff member working during our visit, but she handled the entire room like a pro- friendly, efficient, and warm. We later learned this is a brother-sister operation, both from Nepal, and you can really tell how much heart and hard work they put into the place. This was only my second time having Nepalese food, and I have to say - it reminded me of Indian and Pakistani cuisine but with its own unique twist (and maybe even spicier!). We ordered a spread of dishes: the paneer pakora came with a light, airy batter that was different from what I've had before but very tasty. The chicken momos were a standout--spiced just right and paired perfectly with the cooling sesame sauce. The lamb vindaloo was tender and came in a fiery curry that definitely brings the heat for spice lovers. And the vegetable korma, which was creamy and full of veggies. One of the specialties we tried was the badaami naan, stuffed with nuts and cherries. This was absolutely delicious - slightly sweet, cooling, and such a nice balance when paired with the rich curries. Both my fiancé and I loved it. You can tell the food here is made fresh and with care. The décor is beautiful too, it really feels like you're transported somewhere else. They had us at the free lentil soup, and the meal just got better from there. we ordered from the lunch menu, which comes with two entrées, biryani rice, naan, and the free cup of soup. Also ordered some stuffed paratha bread to go with the leftovers. Came to $36 not counting the tip (we tipped big because WOW!). Solid 5 stars. The chef, Aaiman, came out to our table and we chatted a while. He has a strong background in Nepalese cuisine and culture, and what seems to be a firm understanding of running a restaurant in these challenging days. Excellent food, nice portion sizes (I took home half of my food for later), very clean and spacious with room for groups and Al fresco dining on the sidewalk as well. Check out the beautiful mural of the Himalaya Mountains and the Nepalese flag on the wall. We were too stuffed for dessert, but 100% sure it would be perfect. We will definitely be back. read more

We ordered the chicken tikka masala, vegetable korma, and garlic naan. Each dish was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. Going to slowly make our way up the spice levels but so far level 3 is tolerable! Unlike our first visit, no soup was served with the meal this time, so it seems that might be a lunch special only. The restaurant was generally busy but the service was excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive, and food came out faster than last time. It was a quiet Friday night when I stopped in around 8pm on my way home. Fortunately, it meant getting my takeout order pretty quickly. I tried their butter chicken (spicy 4-mild( and the garlic naan. As well as an order of their samosas (2 to an order). Everything is delicious! One of the best samosas I've e joyed. So much flavor. The butter chicken had a rich creaminess, but did not feel too rich. I enjoyed it with the rice. Generous serving sizes so I enjoyed it for a few meals. This place is truly authentic and definitely worth visiting for a delicious meal. We ordered the veggie momos, garlic naan, palak paneer and the chicken tikka masala. The food is so flavorful and consistently good. We've ordered from this restaurant on a number of occasions and they've maintained the quality that they've had from the beginning. We enjoy their momos because even though the filling is veggie, it is packed with flavor and does not taste like your typical dumpling. The palak paneer and chicken tikka masala are also much better than your typical restaurant that offers these dishes because the spices they use add more flavor to the curry. It can get spicy so I usually pick level 4 (out of 10), but you can get a side of hot sauce if you want it spicier. We had it delivered. This was amazing!. Chicken tikka masala is usually "ok" for me and one note. This, however, was a symphony of flavor. So many layers/depth of flavor and mouth texture. We ordered the "chili" chicken mo-mo. Again, not spicy but such depth of flavor. Lamb curry- warm spices- like christmas- nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon, - not spicy- addicting!
