If you like pad Thai this place is for you. I've been coming here off and on for years and I've never gotten anything else. Definitely a top place that I go to since I live less than a mile away. Here's what you get for $17. You get a full plate loaded with flat noodles, chunks of chicken, egg mixed all through it, and a good amount of green onions. It's all coated in that classic pad Thai sauce, slightly sweet with a little tang to it. On the side they give you fresh bean sprouts, crushed peanuts, a little cabbage and carrot mix, and a lemon wedge so you can kind of mix it how you want. I'm updating my review on MaDee Thai because we ordered from this restaurant recently and it seems that it has improved. We really enjoyed the dishes and while the food here has always been good, it seemed like they tasted better than usual. One thing to note though is that this restaurant always takes their time to make the food so it can take 30 minutes to pick up your take out order. That said, it is worth the wait if they make the food fresh. All this dishes were flavorful. The Ka Pao is always delicious with lots of basil and garlic. The eggplant dish is also savory, but could be better with more eggplant. The Pad Thai was also better because the noodles weren't as dry and the Panang curry was tasty with a creamy flavor. Favorite Thai place in Orange County by far. The pad Thai hits all the right notes of sweet and sour and salty. Recommended to order with shrimps. The pad see ew and drunken noodles have the delicious char taste that you only get from an advanced wok chef. Speaking of, their eggplants with garlic is so amazing. The char flavor and umami bomb that comes with it is beyond. Ordered with beef and you won't be dissapointed. Sprinkle the delicious food with the warm hospitality of the lady in the front and you get me sold on it. I kid you not, every time I get there she gives me the warm feeling you get when you visit your parents. She doesn't give hugs ,I would dare asking, but the food with embrace your soul. MaDee was a Thai spot we stumbled upon when we deviated from our usual place down the street and we were pleasantly surprised. We got our food to go and loved the Pad See Ew, drunken noodles and pad thai! The owners (I believe husband and wife) are incredibly kind and hardworking. I have been back 4 or 5 times since my initial visit and tonight when picking up food there was a diverse crowd sitting in the small restaurant while jazz music played in the background. The food is incredible! Super fresh and full of flavor. I enjoy the food very much. In the past, I've called to place orders for pick up no problem. It's been awhile since I've ordered Thai but had a craving for it. Last week, I called to make a pick up order and the phone line was busy. I called a couple of times more after waiting 10-15 minutes to try and place my order. The phone line was still busy. So I decided to go on Yelp and order it through Grubhub. The order went through and I was charged, which was fine. 30 minutes go by and Grubhub called me to let me know that MaDee's didn't respond to the order being placed. Grubhub cancelled my order and refunded me my money. I was glad my money was returned so fast. I was still hungry especially having to wait just to be told the order was cancelled. So I was not happy and called a different Thai restaurant for pick up. It was a little further away to pick it up but it tasted equally as good. I would recommend going to eat at MaDee's in person or get an order to go in person. The phone service, IMO, isn't a reliable source anymore. read more

A delicious comfort food in the Costa Mesa/Newport area. We had the Ka Pow, Chicken Pad Thai, & Spicy Pork Fried Rice. For $20/pp (3 people) the food was more than enough and we took home some hefty leftovers! The restaurant itself was clean, and the music was fitting. I came here for lunch last Sunday 2/2/25 with a couple of friends. I picked this place because of their reputation. My friend Bang ordered the Crab Fried Rice which I thought was good. Mike ordered the Yellow Curry with pork which was good according to him. And I ordered the Duck Curry which I found tasty. However the duck was shredded instead of full slices that I'm used to. The staff was nice and the serve was good. The only complaint was the curries were a bit runny. I'm used to thick curry but not a deal breaker. Food was authentic and really good! The rich, flavorful, coconut curry noodles soup (Khao Soi) totally hit the spot. The portion was smaller than I expected tho. But they did not skimp on the Mango Sticky rice. I'm pretty sure they gave me a whole mango. For 3 items, it was about $22. Service was friendly and the place looked clean. This used to be our go to Thai place and wow has the food gone down hill. We ordered 3 dishes and they were all awful. My Pad See Ew tasted like pad Thai and was spicy, the WORST pad see ew me and my friends had ever had. Fried rice had no flavor and was oily. Drunken noodles were spicy and chicken was dry, no other flavors present. Won't be ordering here every again. read more

Finally, a decent Thai restaurant in the OC! I have searched near and far for the perfect no-frills, hole in the wall restaurant with great rates and amazing flavor. MaDee's kitchen is usually very busy and unfortunately never really has quite enough employees but that's not a huge issue for me because the food is so worth it. My absolute favorite dish here is the pad see ew with beef for $10. It's a little odd that the paper menu and the menu on the wall has some conflicting information on how much each dish is but it's only off by a dollar so I don't really complain too much about it. I believe MaDee is actually the owner of the restaurant and she is also the one who takes the orders and delivers it to your table. She will sometimes assist with the kitchen whenever needed so she does more than your average owner. Overall, I love this place! The $ signs for this restaurant should be switched from $ to $$. It is pretty standard pricing for Thai food in the area. Though a bit pricey for the portion that you're getting. I had an order of the pad kee mao. Sadly, the dish was overly loaded with noodles and had so little meat and veggies. It was basically just a plate of mushy noodles. See pic below. The flavor wasn't bad. But the texture and lack of ingredients other than the noodles was very disappointing. Looking at the positive Yelp reviews, I gave it a try. Taste great but a bit pricey for Thai food. I ordered the beef noddle soup and was impressed by the authentic soup but not so much for the beef. They cooked each fish fresh and there was only one chef so it took a while to get your food. I wish they added more ingredients to satisfy the price. The restaurant is small and the owner was very friendly. You can ask for modifications on the food if you don't like or prefer a particular ingredient. They still don't open fully so they still serve in plastic plates and bowl even though you dine-in. The crab fried rice was delicious and I love the Thai fried egg. read more

This is my favorite local Thai spot and I've been going here for years. I usually order pad see ew for myself when I'm craving it. I've done pickup by calling the store and delivery through DoorDash. Might be due to COVID and being short staffed but I ordered food for my family and we were quoted 35-40 minutes. We got there at around the whites time and we had to wait an additional 25 minutes since our food wasn't ready. There were a few people before us who seemed to be waiting a bit as well. We got the pad Thai, pad see ew, pad kee mow, spicy eggplant, garlic pepper and Thai fried rice. The pad kee mow and spicy eggplant definitely had some heat to it. Everything we ordered was yummy! Prices are reasonable and portions are decent but if you're serving it family style you may want to order a couple more items. I have had beef noodle soup at every thai restaurant I've ever been to, even in Thailand, and this is by FAR the best boat noodle soup I've ever had. The broth has flavors that brings me back to childhood in phuket, and the beef balls bring authenticity to this dish. When visiting OC my friend and I called in to place an order, we got it relatively quick and it was still hot when we brought it home. However it was lacking flavor. The noodles just tasted like they took them out the pot and placed them in our box. It was very lightly tossed in the peanut sauce. The veggies tasted a bit rubbery as they seamed fo be steamed a little too long in the pot. We also got some spring rolls I believe which were crispy but still lacked flavor.
